ALLURING… ORCHID

Cypripedium calceolus is a lady's-slipper orchid. For nearly four centuries, gardeners and botanists have collected the species to near extinction: as early as 1629 – when the species was first documented by botanists – it was being collected for gardens, and such the uprooting has continued ever since. By the second half of the twentieth century, just a single plant survived in a secret site, following the loss of a second population near Leyburn that fell prey to collectors as late as 1956. Only recently has the species' fortunes in Britain been reversed, following an introduction programme that has planted out cultivated seedlings in as many as 16 sites in a girdle across northern England, from Morecambe Bay to the Durham shores. MELODY… Tulips

Swaying to the music. Parrot tulips, which first appeared in France, found their way to the Netherlands in the Eighteenth century, where they were highly prized and extremely expensive. They are cup-shaped, fringed, twisted and ruffled tulips decorated with vivid, flame-like splashes, stripes or feathery markings. They came in many colours, here white and pink, tinged with green, a ’softer’ variety. THE OPEN FOUR… TULIPS

Brought back fro Belgium, been working my way steadily through them, lol. The Open Four Temperaments Scales were developed in 2014 by Eric Jorgenson using surveys of individuals who knew of the four temperaments and identified as one, and selecting items that reliably predicted self-identification. The idea of the four temperaments traces back to the Ancient Greek medical theory of the four humours, which held that there were four fundamental bodily humours (blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm) and that illness was caused by an imbalance in these. The terms sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic were coined by the Greek physician Aelius Galenus to describe the effect of the humours on personality. The four temperaments have not been a part of medicine or psychology for a hundred years, but remain popular in the writings of several prominent self-help and spirituality authors and the idea remains relatively well known. LIVING ART NOUVEAU…the yellow tulips

Art Nouveau is a decorative style in the visual arts, interior design, and architecture that flourished from 1890 to 1910. It is characterised by organic, sinuous patterns and ornamentations based usually on twisting plant forms. Here I 'shaped' them in a circle... It is not only the shapes of the flowers that are inspiring, one can be creative with different shapes you design them in and they take on a whole new meaning? A circle is a simple shape of Euclidean geometry consisting of those points in a plane which are equidistant from a given point called the center. A circle as a metaphor and structure for defining a system of communication and interaction... Inner-circles, outer-circles... It seems to me that everything comes in 'circles'... It was Spring once more... Just a meditative day! THREE CLASSES? TULIPS

-> There are three classes of people: those who see, those who see when they are shown, those who do not see. Leonardo da Vinci Three of a kind... later tulips, a special red. Bendy bowing they were. Each time I think... that's it, there's only so much you can do with flowers... and yet again and again, I'll see something new. Being creative is not a choice... it is an urge in me. La révérence… a Tulip

To me it looks like this tulip is taking a deep bow, in French, une révérence… A bow for gents, curtsy for the ladies, with a flourish? TRIPLICITY… TULIPS

It is full on the time of the DOUBLE TULIPS in the shop... at the moment, I feel they 'might' be my favourites! They are a bit capricious, Baroque, so varied in shapes, with small oddities, I have become fascinated by them, aahh, and the colours, from deep red, through textured orange to veined yellow to green, the leaves also perform. MAMA MIA… Tulips

Double Tulips, speaking a silent language that I seem to understand. Wouldn't it be a lovely thought, if I had been a beautiful flower in a 'previous' life? As a youngster, a loner, being born in Bruges, West Flanders, I would often just walk into one of the many musea and churches (free in those days!), where you could admire all the great Flemish old Masters, I so loved their light!!! I was a sponge, absorbed it, stored it, till now? I do aim for it in my photography! SO,I adapted the lights and reflectors for the 'Flemish School of light' again, so suits these. VIBRANT RED… TULIPS

Very capricious! The tulips are back in the shops. A welcoming note. The Tulip was originally a wild flower growing in the Central Asia and was first cultivated by the Turks as early as 1,000 AD. In the beginning of the 17th century the tulips were starting to be used as a garden decoration beside the former medicinal purposes. It soon gained major popularity as a trading product, especially in Holland. The interest for the flower was huge and bulbs were sold for unbelievably high prices. Botanists soon found ways of making it an even more decorative and tempting specimen. Hybrids and mutations of the flower were seen as rarities and a sign of high status. In the months of late 1636 to early 1637 there was a complete ‘Tulip mania’ in the Netherlands. Some examples could cost more than an Amsterdam house at this time. Even ordinary men took part in the business. They saw how much money the upper class got in trading and thought that this was an easy way of getting lots of money at no risk. The bulbs were usually sold by weight while they were still in the ground. The trade with the un-sprouted flower came to be called ‘wind trade’. The traders made fabulous amounts of money every month, and people started to sell their businesses, family homes, farm animals, furnishings and dowries to participate. The government could not do anything to stop it, the trade was all about access and demand. But finally the tulip did not appear to be quite so rare to justify such high prices. Over-supply led to lower prices and dealers went bankrupt and many people lost their savings because of the trade. This ‘Tulip Crash’ made the government introduce special trading restrictions for the flower. It is said that the flower became so popular because of the bright colours, dramatic flames and frilly petals. To have tulips in one’s home was a way to impress, and when the wealth spread down the social ladder, so did the urge for tulips. Have FUN, I wish you all the very best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves. Very much appreciated. Love Parrot tulips, especially the red ones, the colourful frivolous bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom... I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen with my eyes! I only ever buy those flowers that ’speak’ to me… You can see for yourself what the Rococo tulips were saying? It looks like a fierce debate is going on? For years I 'experimented' in the studio, to get that Flemish painter's light? Well, I was born in Flanders, it must be in my blood? LOL. ATCHOOO... Tulip

#abfav_favourite_spring_theme THE SNEEZING PARROT TULIP, LOL. SPRING—> POLLEN… hay fever, allergies, a nightmare for some! "A sneeze begins with a sudden inhalation. This is the ‘Aaah’ part of the sneeze. The ‘Choo!’occurs on the exhale because most of the muscles in your body are reflexively contracting. This clamps your mouth shut until the pressure in your lungs rises too high and the air escapes in a burst. Since your tongue is pressing against the roof of your mouth, the air makes a ‘ch’ sound, and with your lips pursed, it emerges as an ‘oo’.” Best explanation I EVER saw of a sneeze! BEST on BLACK! An opulent double Tulip, sprinkled with pollen. Not something sufferers like to see? CAPRICE… TULIPS

A capriccio or caprice , is a piece of music, usually fairly free in form and of a lively character. The typical capriccio is one that is fast, intense, and often virtuosic in nature. Tulips, of the frayed/frazzled variety. Because of the warmth of the lights, they opened and revealed all. Ruffled skirts, ready for dance? So very expressive. I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen with my eyes!LOL Yes, in full communication again. MORE VIBRANT BLUE… HYACINTHS

A true blue not so common in the flower world and not easy to photograph well... We always have a smaller studio in our home, in between things there is time for some of my favourite photography, playing with lights... Went to the 'end of the market' for a cheap deal on flowers (my props), 6 bunches for £ 2, chose from whatever is left. I was fortunate, blue Irises, blue Hyacinths, pink Tulips, Tiger Lilies, what a delight, they perfume our whole house! One of the many different compositions and combinations I tried. HERE MiXED WITH SMALL DAINTY PINK TULIPS The name hyacinth comes from the Greek Hyakinthos, a handsome young man who in Greek mythology was loved by the sun god Apollo. One day they were practicing throwing the discus but the jealous god of the West Wind, who was also in love with Hyakinthos, blew the discus back and it fatally wounded him. From his blood grew a flower which the god Apollo named after him. The bulbs were first brought to Western Europe in the 16th century and were first cultivated in Austria in the 1500's. During the 17th and 18th centuries, like the tulip, it was to be found only in the collections of very rich flower collectors. Because of the hyacinth's pervasive perfume (used in perfumery in France), the bulbs were exorbitantly expensive. Their heady fragrance, their delicacy and their inimitable spring feeling make them very desirable. DAFFODILS for EASTER …

The iconic Easter flowers, a GIFT of BEAUTY. For those interested, Daffodils and Narcissus: the two words are synonyms. Narcissus is the Latin or botanical name for all daffodils. Daffodil is the common name for all members of the genus Narcissus. I have chosen a handful of narcissi mainly for their intoxicating fragrance. Tazetta Daffodils soleil d'or, yellow flowers with small orange rounded cups... These bunch-flowered Narcissi have up to 20 or more flowers arising from each flower stem and the crown being much less than half as long as the tepals, plus the crown isn't wrinkled or "crisped." When the buds first open, as you can see, the petals and the cups are a lemon yellow... later they turn orange! Dwarf daffodils, the stems, bound with a ribbon, finished with a bow... in full glory Wishing you a bright day and thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) IT IS EASTER WEEK… Daffodils

NOT ALL VIOLETS ARE BLUE…

A sure sign that Spring of back, they often stand atremble in the cold early Spring-wind… The viola is a large family containing 500 species, they are on record in Greece from the 4th century B.C. Later in Europe, it was discovered that a plant similar to a viola grew in open areas. The plant found mostly in fields and amongst rocks in the Alps, hence Alpine. It became known as a wild pansy (French:pensÈe). It might have been a romantic Frenchman who 'named' it... A pensÈe can be a thought or a saying, short or it can be as long as a paragraph, a page, a poem! Maybe he thought of his loved-one, dried one amongst some book he carried? Juste une pensÈe... lol. These delicately fragrant flowers come in a wonderful variety of colours. The dark centres in some flowers are thought to resemble little faces. These are a smaller variety (a flower not much bigger than my thumbnail!), that I have in the garden, I could not resist photographing them in the studio... LIP-CARESSING.. Roses

A kiss is the touch or pressing of one's lips against another person or an object. Cultural connotations of kissing vary widely. Depending on the culture and context, a kiss can express sentiments of love, passion, romance, sexual attraction, sexual activity, sexual arousal, affection, respect, greeting, friendship, peace and good luck, among many others. In some situations, a kiss is a ritual, formal or symbolic gesture indicating devotion, respect, or sacrament. The word came from Old English cyssan (“to kiss”), in turn from coss (“a kiss”). A CHORUS LINE of DICENTRA...

English: Venus's car, bleeding heart or lyre flower Français : Cœur de Marie ou Cœur-de-Jeannette German: Tränendes Herz Nederlands: Gebroken hartje, Mariatranen, bloedend hartje. These delicate flowers are such a tender and joyous note in the garden, dancing in the wind, like a farandole, a Chorus Line... They also come in white(Alba)... When you look closely you see their hidden tears... Fresh from our garden, it is most prolific this year. The sun was very harsh, so, I brought in a branch to photograph under controlled light. THE LIFE CYCLE of A DANDELION...

#abfav_favourite_spring_theme Also SPRING! I could ALSO have titled it: The Beautiful, The Ugly, The Soft and the Bald? LOL. I am doing another one of my 'FLOWER-STUDIES'. This time on the humble Dandelion. Taraxacum, the common name is dandelion (from French dent-de-lion, meaning "lion's tooth"). After flowering is finished, the dandelion flower head dries out for a day or two... The dried petals and stamens drop off, the bracts reflex (curve backwards), and the parachute ball opens into a full sphere. Finally, the seed-bearing parachutes expand and lift out of it. The parachute drops off the achene when it strikes an obstacle. After the seed is released, the parachutes lose their feathered structure and take on a fuzzy, cotton-like appearance, often called "dandelion snow". All of this happens in the time-span of 2 days! Another thing I love about being a photographer, you start looking in a 'different' way? Enjoy and make the BEST of every day! TO THE TOP… PRIMULA VALII.

TO THE TOP… PRIMULA VALII. Again a favourite colour combination of mine, purple and red. When in bloom, Primula vialii is easy to distinguish from other primroses. Its stout stalk is crowded with hundreds of tiny flowers of red calyces and blue-violet corollas. Flowering from June into July, the flowers are tightly packed on the stem. The blossom has a bottle brush appearance. This primrose has distinctive flowers, unlike any other in the genus. It's rare to find this plant in its native haunts, as it comes close, if not already, to being an endangered species. Pere Delavay originally discovered the species. I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen, with my eyes! So very inviting and to me... irresistible, the shapes and colours so glorious!!! Giving my flowers SOUL? NEW GROWTH on OLD WOOD...

#abfav_favourite_spring_theme Trees look dead for so long when, suddenly, all changes and becomes beautiful with delicate stems for blossom, new growth on old wood... A Spring explosion! Saw this beautiful tree with dark pink blossoms, being thrashed by wind and rain, it stood strong amongst the white and pink blossoms of the surrounding tree. Found a place to park, tried to get a 'good' image, but the weather was getting worse... my Nikon can stand rain, however.... I looked and saw on the ground that already a few had been ripped off, the old wood looked beautiful, I carefully picked it up and brought it home, to photograph and enjoy. Hope you do too. Fritillaries have nodding, bell- or cup-shaped flowers, and the majority are spring-flowering. All ON THE GO…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME KINGS CROSS STATION LONDON... Springs mean travel/holiday for many, not only the birds that trek South, lol. Sitting on a low wall, waiting on Sunday noon, King’s Cross Station in London, it was stifling hot. Instead of being bored and impatient, I decided to pass the time being 'creative'... I noticed all the people hurrying by and also, especially, that EVERYBODY was lugging bags, lots of bags, of all types, colours and designs. Spotted, striped, floral, classic, coloured. I wondered, what were they all transporting? Can we not go anywhere without our ‘wheeled’ carriers? Often not one but more, backpacks, plastic, leather, designed, handbags, so many. All different, just like the people, their shoes, legs and leg wear! I saw people traveling alone, in pairs, in group, I saw them smile, I saw them laugh, I saw some cry, I saw some depressed and some tired, people of all walks of life. I saw hellos and I saw good-byes... all the emotions ... I became smilingly fascinated and eventually left feeling a great sense of joy because of this series. A PERFECT REFLECTION…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME The canals of Flanders around Damme A few miles from Brugge, you have the small town of Damme. In the Middle-Ages, this used to be the harbour of Brugge, one of the wealthiest cities in the North. Due to silt the North Sea is now about 25 miles out, but Damme retained it's reputation for good food and beer, wonderful old buildings full of the history of revolutionary Flanders. Centuries later Napoleon saw the importance of the area and ordered a system of canals to be built. Today, whichever road you come from, if you want to get to Damme, you'll drive along those beautiful tree lined canals. I walked across one of the bridges, a major junction, in Oostkerke, of those magnificent, unique canals. Behind me were syphons and sluices. A UNIQUE landscape that just goes on and on and on... A photographer's paradise! THE BIG MIGRATION…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME Why can we not be like birds eh? LOL. Well, they do ADAPT to their environment, a big must for ‘migrants’? Bird migration is the regular seasonal movement, often north and south along a flyway, between breeding and wintering grounds. Many species of bird migrate. Migration carries high costs in predation and mortality, including from hunting by humans, and is driven primarily by availability of food. It occurs mainly in the northern hemisphere, where birds are funnelled on to specific routes by natural barriers such as the Mediterranean Sea or the Caribbean Sea. HONFLEUR REFLECTIONS ...

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME REFLECTIONS of the Quai St Etienne in le Vieux Bassin, Honfleur The light was fabulous, it is renowned for it, painters, photographers LOVE it, it started off the Impressionist movement. You see the reflection of the stone houses typical for that side of the dock, the spire is of the Eglise St Etienne, the oldest church, now a maritime museum. ALHAMBRA, GRANADA, SPAIN…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME Portico and pool of the early 14th-century Partal... The Alhambra, the complete form of which was Calat Alhambra, and the Generalife were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. It ia a palace and fortress complex in Muslim Architecture. The places open for public visits are divided into four areas: Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Partal and Generalife. Alhambra, Granada, Spain. HERE is: The portico, with its five arches, overlooks a large pool in the centre of the garden. Behind the portico is the main room, located inside the tower known as Las Damas. WELL WORTH A VISIT!!! Order your tickets before hand or you might not get in! It is extremely popular. The access to the beautiful and exotic Nasrid Palaces is different from the rest of the monument, because it is strictly limited to the half- hour indicated on the ticket due the restrictions on maximum capacity in this area (300 people). This is inside, Patio de los Arrayanes (Court of the Myrtles) and is also called the Patio de la Alberca (from Arabic "Birka" meaning pool). Photographing is difficult because of the crowds... But, if, like me, one of your virtues is 'patience' (NOT!)... people move on with their guides and staying behind a little could pay off, like it did for me. Don't be fooled by the emptiness! LOL. THINGS are BRIGHTENING…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME As the days grow longer… I always see this as another sign of Spring, the bikers bring out their shiny machines, their leathers and are on the road again. One of the favourite destinations is the coast in Yorkshire, the roads are long and winding through the attractive countryside with its hills and bends, perfect for a ride!
