PICASSO et MOI…

I always think it is a nice and good thing, around this time of year, to stand still for a moment and reflect on a few things? I read that is ‘not a good thing’ to dwell on the past??? With that I do not agree for the simple reason that I have a lot of good and also wonderful people there, and I love to revisit! Of course I had awful stuff too, but I dealt with it, only if you haven’t is it a problem. Anyway, we also went through some ‘archives’, YES, of the ancient kind now, like test strips, negatives, wet darkroom, all things film! And Paul’s archives are an absolute treasure throve! So here are some… And for those of you who only like my flower images, look away NOW, LOL. About this double portrait, our fabulous Border Collie, Pica (R.I.P 2006) pour les amis, he was always with us, loved to be photographed (preferred alone?), Paul was continuously trying new lightings in the studio, and I was his favourite model.... I wish you all the best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. PICASSO...

AB FAV for World Animal day https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ PICASSO This was our dog, the Border collie. Pica pour les amis. Brought him over during the days that a dog still was quarantined for 6 months, a very distressing time, but after the whole ordeal was over, he came out of it with his natural flair and more protective of us than ever. Always with us, the car his second residence, he's chased cows into the corner of a field, seagulls into the surf, cats into trees, ladies with fur-coats into caffees.( that's a joke) Knows the coasts of numerous countries... He's had Cancer, three strokes, fought through it all. A beautiful, intelligent animal, with the usual quirks, one of them being, when we were arranging and preparing the studio for clients, BG, chairs, other props, cameras, tested the lights, metering, well, as soon as he saw those flashes going off, he just knew and would go in front of the camera and sit there, correct spot, ready for the close-up Mr, Mrs Indigo. HMMMM, well, we do have quite a number of portraits of him! AAhhh models, he? Thanx for viewing, M, (*_*) R.I.P 16-12-2005 AND STILL missing him badly...

PICA and THE GOLDFISH…

My AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ We were fortunate to share our life with our beautiful and quirky Border Collie, for 16 1/2 years. His name was Picasso, because of his special markings (and those were our ‘painting days’) , Pica pour les amis. At this point, he must have been about 3 years old, we also had a goldfish, not called Wanda LOL. I cleaned the bowl each week and would decant the fish for a moment in this square vase, put it on the floor, because it was so heavy, to the delight of Pica, who could thus get close to this alien moving thing! He would stand there, like wanting to play, yet just staring at it, jumping now and then when the fish made a sudden move. Aaah I still miss him so very badly, only lots of memories left now. I shot this on Hasselblad because that was the camera at hand, not really the right camera for a grab shot! But hey… Thank you for viewing and all your comments, I appreciate them, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PICASSO IN WINTER...

OOH YES, I also 'do' animals! Just like me, our Border Collie loved snow. View On proper Black Felt right at home, especially when catching snowballs and than franticly searching where they've disappeared to... PICASSO and THE VET...

Just look at the relationship! Pica was NEVER afraid to go to the surgeon... I'm convinced he knew he was going to get help! This is the BEST vet I have ever know! His success rate is FANTASTIC!!! He added at least 3 (quality) years to our dear Border Collie's life! It is a joy to see him at work! I've documented quite a few operations, but never any of our dog, I needed the emotional distance to be able to work well and focused. It is not enough being a photographer to do this; you also have to know about anatomy and the surgical procedure. He works FAST and efficient,he prefers to operate without gloves, he uses disinfectant on his hands constantly, for each new procedure, he used to be a vet in Africa! In the bush... Here it seems to horrify people to see him operate like this? How did the world EVER survive he? LOL... Each time I'm amazed at how intensely involved the vet gets with each individual animal. THE VET and HIS PATIENT...

We had a beautiful and wonderful Border-Collie for 16 years. Brought him over from the Continent when the 6 month quarantine law was still in place. He came through it with flying colours! Here, he was 15... thinking he was still 5! He looked young and behaved young, but time catches up, he got ill, had a tumour, luckily, we also had a fantastic vet, who knew our dog well, and agreed it was worth while to go ahead and have the operation. It would prolong his life with QUALITY, it was all we wanted! I was present during the operation and recorded (photographed) many after that, on cats, dogs and other animals... he was a magician... This was a few days after, look at his tail... PLEASE, BEST LARGE and View On proper Black There was a slight problem still and the vet could not stop himself from racking his brain on how to best solve it... These two had a good relationship, they liked and respected each other! Our dear friend lived a good year longer, and then... R.I.P 16-12-2005 AND STILL missing him badly... what a star! This was taken with my Nikon F4 and on film, it was an in-between shot, the light not quite right yet but I've always loved it for the emotions I captured, so important! HAVE A HAPPY SUMMER...

I think most photographers are nervous around sand. That's why you'll mostly find me 'on the rocks'... tee hee. But it had been a long time ago and seemed a great idea to go out for a day in the sand dunes along the Belgian Coast. View On Black Not the beach because my dog needed some shade, I scraped away the soft, hot top-layer of sand till I came to the cooler darker layer for him to lie on. He'd wink at me and then come and sit next to me for a while, watching other dogs, seagulls, children playing with balls and other interesting toys. He trembled with trepidation, so I calmed him down, he still gave me that look of 'this is my job', gotta keep things together here... him being a Border Collie, a sheepdog, a WORKING dog. Yes, we took good care of each other. Glad he was there... We've had to miss him since 2006... Yesterday we went to the coast here in England, back to where we used to go, he was always with us. Filled with mixed feelings, missing him still so very much, feeling good about all the great times we had...yes...life... THE BIG MIGRATION…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME Why can we not be like birds eh? LOL. Well, they do ADAPT to their environment, a big must for ‘migrants’? Bird migration is the regular seasonal movement, often north and south along a flyway, between breeding and wintering grounds. Many species of bird migrate. Migration carries high costs in predation and mortality, including from hunting by humans, and is driven primarily by availability of food. It occurs mainly in the northern hemisphere, where birds are funnelled on to specific routes by natural barriers such as the Mediterranean Sea or the Caribbean Sea. Le Petit Pêcheur et son chien…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME Staithes, North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast... we had combed the beaches, the quay-sides, boats, we'd met new people and chatted, yes taken loads of images. The tide was coming in fast, the sun was getting lower... we rested out in the shade on a bench, before going for a meal, taking it all in, when this little chap in a bright yellow T-shirt, green net over his shoulder, accompanied by his faithful friend appeared in front of us... GETTING TO KNOW YOU...

Getting to know you, Getting to know all about you. Getting to like you, Getting to hope you like me. Excerpt From The King and I (By Rodgers and Hammerstein ) Dogs have their own language to show each other their feelings: they tell if they want to play or prefer to be left alone, if they are afraid or confident, if they are dominant or submissive. When a dog sees how the other feels, it can react in the right way and avoid conflict. Walking with your eyes wide open, you ALWAYS see something of interest to photograph. Taken on the old promenade at Scarborough, just a fun shot to end the week end. THE HORSEBREEDER AND HIS WORLDCHAMPION...

About 15 years ago, we photographed a couple on their wedding day at this farm with the horses. We’d visited the farmer before, a charming gentleman, lonely after losing his wife, all his passion and life now geared towards the breeding of those magnificent animals. The Belgian horse is a much-loved gentle giant. This large heavily muscled horse most likely descended from the heavy prehistoric horses and was indispensable as a workhorse in the Middle Ages when this horse was known as the Flanders Horse, now it is known as the Brabant. During our recent trek through Flanders, we happened to pass the farm, it has a beautiful long drive, I saw activity and gathering all our courage, decided to go in, my heart sank when I saw the sign ‘Veterinary surgeon’ at the entrance, shrugged and drove in. The veterinary is his grandson. What a wonderful surprise, the kind man was there, now a proud 91, he recognized me, we were pleased to meet again. “Of course welcome to take as many photographs as we wanted” he said, adding and pointing quickly behind him, this is Igor, a world champion! … He wiped his running nose with a white handkerchief… you should have been here a bit sooner; Igor just sired a few mares… PS: to sire is to inseminate. I wish you all a superb day and thanx for the visit, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PURE JOY...

IGOR THE WORLD CHAMPION. Once a horse wins that title... it becomes invaluable and is used as a stud. Igor had just sired (inseminated) a few mares and was feeeeeeeeeling GOOD... The Belgian horse, Belgian Heavy Horse, or Brabant is a horse breed that comes from the West-Brabantian region of Belgium. They are one of the strongest of the heavy breeds. The world's Largest Horse was a Belgian named Brooklyn Supreme, who weighed 3,200 pounds, and stood at 19.2 hands. On average the Brabant will grow to be slightly over 1 ton or 2,000 pounds. Colors normally are a blond with a brighter mane, or a sorrel/ chestnut coloring. In history their main use was to work farms. They are able to pull tremendous amounts of weight-up to over 4,500 pounds for a pair. They also played an important role in the first World War, where quite a few perished. They are still used as work horses, wagon horses, but mostly as show horses. MOTHER and SON...

OOOH yes, I also 'DO' photograph animals... After I'd said goodbye to the horse-breeder, I walked around and started to photograph, I discovered another blond stallion in an adjacent field and in order to get his whole head, with the velvet nose and pricked up ears all in, I had pushed through the fences and the top (danger!!!) ribbon... well I got the shot, but what a SHOCKING experience! I straightened too soon and was electrocuted, in the neck, I called Paul, yelling: IS THE CAMERA GOING TO BE ALL RIGHT??? The horse got as much of a fright as I did, bolted and ran off. Farmers are the same all over the world, they are only allowed a low voltage BUT... this was 240, my heart felt like I was 25 again. Bouboum. I turned around into the 'safer' stables, obviously the nursery, since there were about 6 stables all with foals, that's where I captured those two lovelies. The adventures of a photographer he, tee hee. The Belgian horse is a much-loved gentle giant. I'VE GOT MY EYE ON YOU...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! More from St Ives in Cornwall. After a long 'photo'-walk all along, we ended up on the harbour-wall, it was still lovely in the sun, I'd walked up to the end, to the lighthouse, looked over the side and there I saw THE SEAL!!! First time ever I saw one in FREE nature, so very beautiful... I felt like jumping up and down, but stayed calm, not to scare it. By now a whole group of people were looking on as delighted as me. It suddenly snorted and dived under, completely out of sight only to reappear a bit further... Life can be so wonderful, sometimes through 'small' and unexpected happenings. HISTOIRE de SWAN…

AB FAV 1 for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ You cannot visit Brugge, and return without a photo with or of a SWAN. Why Swans in Brugge? At the end of the 15th century, the oppressed people of Bruges rose in revolt against the unpopular Emperor Maximilian of Austria. They captured Maximilian and imprisoned him in the Craenenburg House on the Market Square, together with his equally unpopular adviser, Pieter Lanckhals. Lanckhals was condemned to death and Maximilian was forced to watch the execution. The Emperor eventually escaped and later took his revenge: he decreed that ‘until the end of time’ the city should be required at its own expense to keep swans on all its lakes and canals. And why swans? Because swans have long necks – and the Flemish for ‘long neck’ is ‘lange hals’ – or ‘lanckhals’! And so a city legend was born… Reality? More likely… The first swans in Bruges go back to the Middle Ages. In the early 15th century, Bruges bought the right to keep swans from the Count of Flanders. At that time swans were a symbol of distinction. The killing or stealing swans was forbidden. Swans were first mentioned in the city accounts in 1403. At that time the swans tended to stay on the vests around the city because the canals were the water highways of the city and too busy for the swans. A Mute Swan (Cygnus olor), sleeping with one eye open. The mute swan is commonly associated with romance because of its stark white beauty, graceful swimming and the fact that it mates for life. Yet there are many things most people don’t know about this swan, including that it is not native to North America and it can be one of the most aggressive waterfowl. I chose this strong graphic composition, because I wanted something different. Hope you like it too. I chose this strong graphic composition, because I wanted something different. Hope you like it too. AWAY IN A MANGER...

For December I am uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things, as you can see... Today, Christmas Day, the theme is Winter and MUSIC, I trawled through my files to find appropriate images? I find music a great 'unifier'. It crosses bounderies, different genres can mix perfectly. A COLD BOLTON ABBEY MORNING Bolton Abbey is a quaint Dales village, surrounded by farms, adjacent to Bolton Priory, a ruined Augustinian monastery on the banks of the River Wharfe, in Wharfedale just north of the spa town of Ilkley in the Yorkshire Dales. This renowned beauty spot forms part of the Duke of Devonshire's country estate, which also includes the riverside walk through the woods to the Strid, a notorious stretch of water where the River Wharfe is forced into a deep thundering channel. A CAPTIVE AUDIENCE...

Another photo with a story...... High on the North-Yorkshire Moors, there’s very little vegetation; the heather is lost, being replaced by coarse, unpalatable grasses and bracken, maintained by the sheep. We've been driving a 4X4 (for obvious reasons) for a number of years, so do the farmers, so, whenever we drive up, the animals think it’s the farmer turning up and they all start bleating and come a running, that or I must have an animal attraction, hihihi ? Often , the views are stunning, we walk and look for the best viewpoint, followed by this captive audience… In the distance you see some loose stone wall, the cold wind playing its whistling tune on the grasses. Just thought this was a fun image the way they all look at the lens, phhhaa, GROUPIES!!! GOOD SIGNS for SPRING

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! yesterday was a special day for Paul and me, so we gave ourselves a day off... well, for us, that means, drive, be free and take it as it presents itself. The weather was: overcast of the dark grey variety, not the 'softbox' effect that can work very well sometimes. We drove up to the Yorkshire Dales and Moor. Veered down, it cleared, the sun peeped, watery and tentatively, but, for a photographer patience is one of the most important and challenging virtues, follow the light, wait... be ready, shoot!!! That's what I did, the first lam I saw this year, a tender and good sign always, new life. Have a lovely day and thanx for commenting, Magda, (*_*)

DOES MY BUM LOOK BIG IN THIS???

PURE NEW WOOL? TODAY I FEEL LIKE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!! It was a lovely day, we went for a drive to the Yorkshire Dales/Moors... We chose Malham, drove past the Cove and the Tarn... Away, "Far from the Madding Crowd" and ended up in the stunning absolute silence of Malham Moor, the swallows were sheering over the grasses and buttercups, one of the few sounds to hear, that and a lonely lam calling for mum... A winding road, now and then a cattle grid, sheep are grazing alongside, they look at you inquisitively ...
