HAPPY DIWALI...

AB FAV 2 for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ HAPPY DIWALI I give you light... It is tomorrow, however in India, they are celebrating it already. Diwālī is the Hindu Festival of Lights. For Jains it is one of the most important festivals, and beginning of the Jain year. It is also a significant festival for the Sikh faith. Diwali is one of the most popular and eagerly awaited festivals of India. It is celebrated for 5 consecutive days in Hindu month of Ashwayuja which usually correspond to the months of October or November. Hindus, Jains and Sikhs celebrate Diwali and use the occasion to celebrate life and strengthen relationships. Typically, celebrations focus on lights and lamps, particularly traditional diyas, although electric lights have become widespread. Fireworks may also be associated with the festival in some regions. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I brought in the garden lights ( 8 plastic tubes with LED lights inside), decided to have some fun with them in the studio again. Here I'm using 2 tubes, I tried different techniques with the studio-lights. To freeze me=washed out the lights too much. So, the old joke was always that photographers do it in the dark! Here's PROOF! A happy Diwali to All friends around the world. Magda (*_*) IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH, don't tell ANYONE you've seen me!!! ANOTHER STORY.

The Christmas party was in full swing, the house full of laughter. The ladies in their colourful and sparkling dresses, looking gorgeous, the gents smart and preened... many of them swaying to the tune of the sweet music. Lights and flickering candle-flames spreading a lovely glow. The smell of good food was tickling the nostrils, yes a very merry atmosphere. The weather was awful, sleety snow battering and drumming on the windows, but nobody seemed to notice, I was overlooking the pleasant scene when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a red blur, I looked, no... nothing there. A little later, I was sure I saw it again, nudged a little closer to the window, and yes, there he was, Santa, shushing me, I rushed into the hall snatched a hat and coat and hurried outside. 'Sssssssssshhhhhhhhhh, I'm over here, quiet please?' I could see his reindeer snuffling for some grass under the white layer. 'These are busy times for me, as you know, I came across your house and I could not help looking in, it looked so inviting I couldn't stop myself and have a look through the window, ooh, I do love to see people so happy, are you enjoying it?' I blushed, or was it the wind that coloured my cheeks? 'Euhh, well yes, Santa, but I must confess, I'm not really here to feast and this is not my house, I am here to work, I am a photographer...' He stroked his beard: 'Aha, I see... and do you like what you are doing?' I shrugged and smiled: 'Yes and no, I love photography, but this here is work, earning a living, and no, not my favourite, you see, I think I am too shy really for it, each time I have to overcome a barrier, I mean, the clients cannot see my nerves, he?' He clasped my hands in his: 'Hohoho, you make me laugh with your honesty! Sssshhh, between you and me, that sometimes happens to me too, I can also be nervous! Tell me what is your dream?' I sighed deeply and looked at him: 'My dream would be to just be a creative photographer, I have so many ideas, not enough time, aaah, yes, to photograph when I like and what I like...' He stroked his beard again and seemed thoughtful : 'That is quite a wish! In this day and age, mot easy, hhhmmm. Well, my dear, it was great meeting you, I have to be on my way again, I wish you all the best and remember SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH, don't tell ANYONE you've seen me!!!' He offered me a branch of festive Holly, waved good-bye. I heard the sleigh-bells disappear into the dark of night, quickly silenced by the snow, gone... and me, also back to work again. This was a few years ago now, and I got my wish! I live the photographer's dream! I wish you all the very best, may your wishes come true, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, invites, faves and Awards. Very much appreciated. LET THE FESTIVE SEASON BEGIN...

Let the festive season begin... For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... A stall on the Christmas Market in Manchester, saw this , could NOT resist. I'm convinced it is meant to hang outside your front-door, me I put it on the table with a big candle, most romantic and colourful, it is just too soon still for the Christmas stuff, a lovely 'in-between'... thank you for ALL your comments, M, (* _ *) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE RED BERRIES of THE HAWTHORN...

Very festive around this time of year. Red is definitely a favourite colour of mine for the festive season. I know that 'commerce' often 'dictates' otherwise, but I am a tradional, lol, I do not want black or pink... So red, green and white it is... as you will see in the following images... I know the leaves and berries are somewhat wether-beaten, but I love that, I find perfection boring! The fruit, sometimes known as a "haw", is berry-like, but structurally a pome. Hawthorns are important for wildlife in winter, particularly thrushes and waxwings; these birds eat the haws and disperse the seeds in their droppings. Hope you are enjoying the run-up? Take it easy, take time to enjoy it! I do! Giving my flowers SOUL? Here My Soul Flowers on youtube and here Studio Flowers 2011 THIS IS THE LATEST!!! OF RED BERRIES & FLUFFY COTTON...

Looking festive and Wintery... The fluffy white cotton looks like the snow the weather is still not giving us! COTTON, THE PLANT... We all know cotton, but what do we actually KNOW about cotton? What an influence it's had on our world in many different ways? www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSJZ12iMzvQ&feature=related It is not something you see here often in the UK, but I had the oportunity and took advantage of it again. I could NOT imagine my life without it, together with silk and wool, my absolute favorite materials. I do not like synthetics and avoid them as much as possible, not a fanatic in anything, I do enjoy Fleece (made from recycled bottles?). Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective capsule, around the seeds of cotton plants of the genus Gossypium. The plant is a shrub native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including the Americas, Africa, India, and Pakistan. The fiber most often is spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile, which is the most widely used natural-fiber cloth in clothing today. THE COLOURS OF CHRISTMAS... Berries of Hypericum

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... For me the colours of Christmas are still (mostly) red, green and white! Berries of Hypericum or St. John's Wort (Hypericum inodorum, 'Magical Passion'), a nice filler in a Winter bouquet! Most festive!! THE COLOURS of CHRISTMAS...THE HOLLY AND THE IVY

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... "The Holly and the Ivy" is a traditional Christmas carol, which is among the most lightly Christianized carols of the Yuletide— the holly and the ivy being among the most familiar Druidic plants. "Holly and ivy have been the mainstay of Christmas decoration for church use since at least the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, when they are mentioned regularly in churchwardens’ accounts" (Roud 2004). I'm not surprised that they are so popular, they are fresh, green, with the jolly berries AND plentiful in the garden, this time of year, and also, so very decorative. I am trying to use as little light and dof as possible, a challenge that I love. I find it necessary and refreshing to regularly go back to the basics of photography. As a discipline, I used to go out with my Nikon F4, a 50mm lens, b&w or colour film. Now of course it is much more with the 'ease' of digital, however, I do NOT take hundreds of photos, the discipline is, I use my camera as a 'film' camera, each push of the button COSTS! So, I compose carefully, wait, look, ... if I AM SURE, pleased... then, I shoot! Or like here, I'll preconceive a scenario, go in the studio, set up and photograph it when I am happy that I have the result in front of my eyes that I had in my head. I wish you a day full of peace and goodness, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE COLOURS OF CHRISTMAS...HOLLY-HOLLY-HOLLY

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Personally the colours of Christmas are still (mostly) red, green and white! Holly berries are somewhat toxic to humans, though their poisonous properties are overstated and fatalities almost unknown. They are extremely important food for numerous species of birds and are also eaten by other wild animals. In the fall and early winter the berries are hard and apparently unpalatable. After being frozen or frosted several times, the berries soften, and become milder in taste. During winter storms, birds often take refuge in this evergreen, which provides shelter, protection from predators (by the spiny leaves) and food. I wish you all the very best, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. THE COLOURS OF CHRISTMAS... MISTLETOE

For December I am uploading images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Personally the colours of Christmas are still (mostly) red, green and white! According to Christmas custom, any two people who meet under a hanging of mistletoe are obliged to kiss. The custom may be of Scandinavian origin. It was described as early as 1820 by Washington Irving in his "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon": "The mistletoe is still hung up in farm-houses and kitchens at Christmas, and the young men have the privilege of kissing the girls under it, plucking each time a berry from the bush. When the berries are all plucked the privilege ceases." Quote from movie Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983): Belle: Ebeneezer? Scrooge: Yes, Isabelle? Belle: My eyes are closed, my lips are puckered, and Im standing under the mistletoe. Scrooge: You're also standing on my foot... LOL! Mistletoe is the common name for a group of parasitic plants that grow attached to and within the branches of a tree or shrub, it is a parasite. ONE POINSETTIA LEAF…

does not make Christmas… The French proverb ‘une hirondelle ne fait pas le Printemps’ is almost identical to its English equivalent "one swallow doesn't make a Summer" other than one glaring difference: the season. The coloured bracts, which are most often flaming red but can be orange, pale green, cream, pink, white, or marbled—are often mistaken for flower petals because of their groupings and colours, but are actually leaves. They are already available in the shops,I don’t know about you, by the time it is Christmas, mine will be gone? I’m no good with them… Poinsettia is a Euphorbia pulcherrima. The plant's association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico, where legend tells of a young girl who was too poor to provide a gift for the celebration of Jesus' birthday. The tale goes that the child was inspired by an angel to gather weeds from the roadside and place them in front of the church altar. Crimson "blossoms" sprouted from the weeds and became beautiful poinsettias. From the 17th century, Franciscan friars in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations. The star-shaped leaf pattern is said to symbolise the Star of Bethlehem, and the red colour represents the blood sacrifice through the crucifixion of Jesus...Where I come from, we call this a 'Christmas Star' There is a common misconception that the poinsettia is highly toxic. This is not true; it is mildly irritating to the skin or stomach and may sometimes cause diarrhoea and vomiting if eaten. As with all Euphorbias, they bruise easily and give off a white 'milk' when broken, see the drop on the top, so those sensitive to latex may suffer an allergic reaction. IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS? At Christmas, here in the Northern Hemisphere, our gardens and most plants are hibernating and invisible. So, what do we do, we bring plants inside, the shops are brimming with Poinsettias, large and small, red or white and pink. With Amaryllis and gorgeous bouquets with Winter-green and colour. Crimson "blossoms" sprouted from the weeds and became beautiful poinsettias. From the 17th century, Franciscan friars in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations. The star-shaped leaf pattern is said to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem, and the red color represents the blood sacrifice through the crucifixion of Jesus...Where I come from, we call this a 'Christmas Star' There is a common misconception that the poinsettia is highly toxic. This is not true; it is mildly irritating to the skin or stomach and may sometimes cause diarrhea and vomiting if eaten. As with all Euphorbias, they bruise easily and give off a white 'milk' when broken, so those sensitive to latex may suffer an allergic reaction. I wish you all the very best, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. POINSETTIA...THE COLOURS of THE SEASON

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! A LIVE plant, after the studio it looks like silk? Nowadays, like in everything, there are 'trends'? This year, black trimmings seem to be the latest rage, the MUST HAVE! Me, I'm more traditional, green and red are THE colours for Christmas, of course with some silver and some gold, often white included, all depending on my creative mood... It probably originates in my childhood, but yes, to me, this is it! This Poinsettia is a Euphorbia pulcherrima. The plant's association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico, where legend tells of a young girl who was too poor to provide a gift for the celebration of Jesus' birthday. The tale goes that the child was inspired by an angel to gather weeds from the roadside and place them in front of the church altar. THE FLOWERS in the STAR…

This is the palest pink poinsettia I ever saw! The tiny flowers in the middle of the pink star look like little mouths? Euphorbia pulcherrima is a shrub or small tree, typically reaching a height of 0.6–4 metres (2 ft 0 in–13 ft 1 in). The plant bears dark green dentate leaves that measure 7–16 centimetres (2.8–6.3 in) in length. The coloured bracts —which are most often flaming red but can be orange, pale green, cream, pink, white, or marbled—are often mistaken for flower petals because of their groupings and colours, but are actually leaves. The colours of the bracts are created through photoperiodism, meaning that they require darkness (12 hours at a time for at least five days in a row) to change colour. At the same time, the plants require abundant light during the day for the brightest colour.[ The flowers of the poinsettia are unassuming and do not attract pollinators. They are grouped within small yellow structures found in the center of each leaf bunch, and are called cyathia.] The poinsettia is native to Mexico. It is now found in the wild in deciduous tropical forests at moderate elevations from southern Sinaloa down the entire Pacific coast of Mexico to Chiapas and Guatemala. It is also found in the interior in the hot, seasonally dry forests of Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. ORANGE AND SPICE...

Colour and fragrance... Orange and spice and all things nice... I gather is comes from the making of cakes, puddings and hot drinks? Glühwein is usually prepared from red wine, heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, cloves, star aniseed, citrus, sugar and at times vanilla pods. THE EMBRACE... TULIPS.

Tulips in an embrace, the leaves forming a heart, I spotted them amongst the rest in the bouquet... Although tulips are associated with Holland, both the flower and its name originated in the Persian empire. The tulip, or lale (from Persian lâleh) as it is also called in Turkey, is a flower indigenous to Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and other parts of Central Asia. It is unclear who first brought the flower to Northwest Europe. The most widely accepted story is that of Oghier Ghislain de Busbecq, Ambassador from Ferdinand I to Suleyman the Magnificent of the Ottoman Empire in 1554. He remarks in a letter upon seeing "an abundance of flowers everywhere; Narcissus, hyacinths, and those which in Turkish Lale, much to our astonishment, because it was almost midwinter, a season unfriendly to flowers! In Persian Literature (classic and modern) special attention has been given to these two flowers, in specific likening the beloved eyes to Narges and a glass of wine to Laleh. The word tulip, which earlier in English appeared in such forms as tulipa or tulipant, entered the language by way of French tulipe and its obsolete form tulipan or by way of Modern Latin tulipa, from Ottoman Turkish tülbend, "muslin, gauze". (The English word turban, first recorded in English in the 16th century, can also be traced to Ottoman Turkish tülbend.) FOR ALL THOSE I LOVE... THE COLOURS OF CHRISTMAS... MOTHER AND CHILD...

For December I am uploading images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Personally the colours of Christmas are still (mostly) red, green and white! Another December, almost into another season, in these dark Winter days I need some 'hope' and colour from something!!! LOL. Mutiple tulips... quite rare, so HAD to be photographed! Back to the 'warmer' light. Although tulips are associated with Holland, both the flower and its name originated in the Persian empire. A TWIST OF ELEGANCE on THE TRADITIONAL... CHRISTMAS COLOURS.

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! RED AND GREEN.So Christmassy. The most likely root of the red and green tradition dates back to the 1300s when Adam and Eve’s Day was celebrated on December 24th and on that day, each year churches traditionally presented a Paradise Play depicting the story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. Now you can’t have a story about Adam and Eve without an apple tree? Now as it was impossible to find a real tree full of ripe, red apples during the Winter, someone came up with the idea of fastening apples to the branches of a pine tree. This decorated pine tree represented the Tree of Good and Evil. But the tree wasn’t only seen in the play. Churches began adding a tree donning red apples into their Christmas displays. The decorated tree that began as a prop for the Paradise play was so popular especially in Germany, that people began to put pine trees up in their homes during the holiday, decorating them with red apples, as the church folks had done and the tradition of having a Christmas tree was born. The idea spread and both Christmas trees and the colour combination of red and green were well on its way to becoming official symbols of the Christmas holiday.(Kate Smith) I wish you all the very best, may your wishes come true, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, faves and likes. THE SECRETS UNFURLING... Amaryllis

Hippeastrum, these plants are popularly but erroneously known as Amaryllis and are cultivars of bulbous plants in the family Amaryllidacea. The botanic name Amaryllis is taken from a shepherdess in Virgil's pastoral "Eclogues"(An eclogue is a poem in a classical style on a pastoral subject. Poems in the genre are sometimes also called bucolics. Virgilius wrote the Bucolica, consisting of 10 Eclogues). As a flower symbol it has come to mean "Dramatic", which seems most fitting here! Hippeastrum is a popular bulb flower for indoor growing, it is Greek for "horseman's star" (also known today as "knight's star"). Another Macro+++, and the 'dramatic' light I've grown to love so much. To have the flower head giving away its little secrets and beauty, slowly… Thanx for your comments and visits, M, (*_*) PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME, VIA THE WEBSITE! WHY RED for CHRISTMAS... The answer?

I mentioned I was a 'classisist' for Christmas. I prefer the colours green, red, white... I looked up: why Red? An early use of red at Christmas were the apples on the paradise tree. They represented the fall of Adam in the plays. Red is also the colour of Holly and many other berries, which is said to represent the blood of Jesus when he died on the cross. Red is also the colour of Bishops robes. These would have been worn by St. Nicholas and then also became Santa's uniform? AAAHHH well, there you go. I just find it festive! Hope you this warms up your day. Thanx for visiting, Magda (*_*) PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! FIBER SALVO

Let the festive season begin... For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Fiber optic lighting systems transmit beams of light from a single, centralized halogen or metal halide lamp through glass or plastic fibers. The densely packed bundles of fibers are twisted and drawn through an outer jacket to dramatically increase the amount of light that reaches the outlets. This is a close-up detail... MACRO, comp in camera!!! They still fascinate me but I am less fond of those that change colours, I prefer mono, so I have these white and the one blue… so far… Thanx you very much for your time, visit, comments and awards..., M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) FIBER OPTICS... LIKE FIREWORKS

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... FROM THE SERIES CIRCLES AND LIGHTS. I am always on the look-out for visually interesting props, this is obviously a set of fiber optic lights, consists of 6 balls which I arranged in different ways to get a pleasing composition. The light-guiding principle behind optical fibers was first demonstrated in Victorian times when the total internal reflection principle was used to illuminate streams of water in elaborate public fountains, but modern optical fibers were only developed in the beginning of the 1950's. Now that we are back on Winter time, it is dark very early, the weather's gone bad, I've had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more. I am enjoying the burst of creativity, I wish you all a day full of light and THANX for your visit and comments, so appreciated, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) GLITTERING...

GLITTERING… As I love lights and lighting (surprise? lol), we do have quite a collection in our home. We have this ground floor-light, a ball, over it an unusual Christmas decoration, designed especially for light. Abstract,so right for the season, all the festive attractions are out in the shops and streets, yes, already! Which is nice since, with the hour change, it is dark here at 17hrs! The sparkle is most welcome, a bit soon, but hey viva consumerism eh? LOL I wish you all the very best, may your wishes come true, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, invites, faves and Awards. Very much appreciated. OF CIRCLES, BALLS AND LIGHT TOO...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... What we have here are three different sources of light, not easy to 'balance' out correctly: 1: ELECTRIC light 2: OIL lamp 3: WAX, candlelight No other light was added, except my beaming smile, because I was enjoying myself so much for being creative after quite some time... I was full of ideas. Hope you're enjoying this series? A MAGIC BALL

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... A special glass bauble, diameter about 15cm, heavy, real glass and metal, given to me by a German client who bought it from an artist who sadly did not sign it, so, I do not know the name... It is beautiful, have had it for years, it moved around with me to different countries, yep, well travelled! And you see a whole magic world in it! Every year I buy at least 1 new Christmas decoration, something different, preferably glass. Got them from all over the world now. I love glass but it is a b***h to light properly!!! THE 'MAGIC' BOWL...

From the series Circles and lights. I made a series Cubes and lights last year, well this year I saw how many round objects there are in our home, so, now that we are back on Winter time, it is dark very early, the weather's gone bad, I've had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more. NO FILTERS WERE USED for 'STAR-EFFECT'!!! Just a very small aperture: here: f32... Glass is one of the most difficult substances to photograph; my challenge is to use the reflections in a positive manner so that they add to the image. I love the 'magic' and sparkle that Christmas brings to a home in the darkest period of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, some glass, lights or candles and there it is...twinkle twinkle... I always greatly enjoy the refractions too. CHIAROSCURO! I wish you all a sweet day and thanx for your visit, always welcome, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE LIGHT IN THE DARK SEASON...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Today a water candle holder, safe and magic, it reflects and refracts the light beautifully and in unexpected ways. Can also be used as a vase... Glass is one of the most difficult substances to photograph; my challenge is to use the reflections in a positive manner so that they add to the image. Yes, it is that time of year again here in the Northern hemisphere… Start of December, in the UK we are on winter time, so it is darker an hour sooner than in most parts of Europe! This long period stretches in front of us, I know it influences and affects many people’s lives, they have the blues, they become morose, altogether down and even angry. Not enjoying life. And of course, it seems trendy to be ‘cynical’ about Christmas, New Year, the ‘commercialisation’ of the festivities, the music, the presents, the sending of cards, family gatherings and parties, hats and party-poppers, the cold, dank- and darkness. I’m different; I love the cold, especially snow, blue skies and crackling fresh air… that is if and when we get it, which is no guarantee nowadays, even in the North of England. Snow makes everything so beautiful and silent; you see small details, on familiar buildings, you never knew were there. I love the long evenings, I bring out the candles, they give off such a romantic light, I love the flickering flames, the shadow play on the walls, the smell when you blow them out before bedtime. When I’m out, the festive lights are on, since last week, they twinkle in the wind, sparkle in the rain. Shop windows are dressed festively, glittering and enticing. It is the season of silver and gold, red and green. Everywhere you walk or drive, decorated homes, I agree some over the top, it again makes me smile… each to their own, it is much more pleasurable than driving through dark streets. For many animals, winter is about hibernation, for me it is about reflection, making up the emotional balance, joy for a good year, hope for a better year? Thinking of people, making contact, touching once more… most of all the lonely ones (some with families!). I embrace it, accept it, you see, I believe the more you rebel against something, the worst you make it for yourself! It is not going to go away! Just imagine that whole ‘LIGHT’ period away from the dark months, how would we feel then? Many more people depressed and even more on Anti-Depressants? The Christmas market is back in town, we are going for a visit next Sunday. A lot of happy smiles there, blowing on a steaming hot German potato pancake, eating bratwurst fresh from above the glowing coals, drinking a cool beer or hot Gluhwein, children looking wide-eyed at all the wooden toys, spinning toys, glass baubles, candy and sweets. For many years now, Paul and I celebrated by ourselves, dressed up to the nines, having a real party, just the two of us. On Christmas day, we saw and heard families arrive in our street… not for us, that is when you miss your loved-ones even more. And when all is over and the baubles and bling packed away till next year, I’ll have the smile of the memories… and in the meantime, gradually, it will get lighter and brighter again, the soil will break up with the new life and colour of the crocus, followed by the daffodils and tulips… the hope of Spring, then the warmth of Summer, the nostalgia of Autumn, to come full circle to the darkness of Winter. And so our life goes by… I dread to think the dark season without the festive season, even with all its ‘trappings’. Have a great one, be safe and enjoy! And thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) OF CIRCLES AND LIGHT...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... From the series Circles and lights. A water candle holder, safe and magic, it reflects and refracts the light beautifully and in unexpected ways. Can also be used as a vase... I saw how many round objects there are in our home, so, now that we are back on Winter time, it is dark very early, the weather's gone bad, I've had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more. Have a sparkling day and thanx for your visit, always a pleasure, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A SPARKLING SPIRAL... in water, if you want to see where this detail comes from... some of you may recognize it? See previous... It was a thrilling shoot and I want to thank Paul for all the help and the shared enthusiasm. The fun continues! World AIDS Day TODAY!

Was in Sweden, had rented a Stuga (wooden hut, well, small house), it was late October, during the days the weather was fine but the nights extremely cold. A roaring fire in the woodburner warmed up the place nicely, but it lacked a bit more 'coziness', so, with empty toilet rolls (a few cut in half), some alu-foil, red ribbon and some tealights, I made this groups of candles. According to UN-AIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35. Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world. Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away! This image was donated to an Aids charity, because of all the symbolism it contains, within the candles, some burning brighter than the others, some dying down... They used it as a poster! Have a super day and thank you for visiting, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) Lucia, A FEST of LIGHT....A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is many different things, as you can see... Lucia... 13 December This timing, and her name meaning light, is a factor in the particular devotion to St. Lucy in Scandinavian countries, where young girls dress as the saint in honor of the feast. The tradition origins from Sweden, and there after was copied by the other Scandinavian countries to bring in light in a time of darkness On the 13th of December, in Sweden, the festivities of Lucia Day begin early in the morning, with costumed children bringing their parents breakfast in bed. But the holiday continues, with Lucia processions in schools, hospitals, offices, factories, even on SAS flights. There are also Lucia competitions, with young women vying to represent their community. Perhaps the most spectacular of these takes place in Stockholm where the city's Lucia is crowned by the writer who three days earlier was awarded that year's Nobel Prize in Literature. Symbolizing the light of faith and the promise of the sun's return. Santa Lucia has become a Swedish icon of Winter, nearly as popular as Jultomte, the Swedish Santa Claus. may the light shine bright for you today and thank you for visiting, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) ON ICE...

I love glass... I bought this candle display in the charity shop. Shaped as a sheet of ice, made out of glass, it reflects the light beautifully, works well on the table decorated with a few flowers, or small stars or holly, it is something that stimulates the creativity and my imagination. But I still love it best like this. Most of photos are taken with 'fresh' candles just lit; I prefer this, the more 'used' feeling... SHIMMERING ANGELHAIR...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... This was a difficult neg to print in the wet darkroom, but had plenty of room for manipulation and interpretation. 'Electric' candles with 'angelhair', the old-fashioned 'glass' stuff, that left your fingers full of tiny cuts! You have to suffer for your art??? LOL. I had bought it for old-time sake, the Christmas tree at my grand-parents was always shrouded in it, as a little girl the shimmering fascinated me... HMMMM, I guess it still does? I love the mystery created, the lightplay. Well, I hope you like it too, have a wonderful day and thanx for viewing and commenting, always appreciated, Magda. LIGHT IN A BAG...

WARNING, THESE ARE SPECIAL FIRE-RESISTANT BAGS, especially made for candles!!!! For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... I'm always on the look-out for special things, these came in small (this is a small one), medium and large. On a Summer's night, you could put them in the garden, make a path, be creative... My love for candles go back to my childhood, adore their very special light, the flickering. Well, I hope you like it too, have a wonderful day and thanx for viewing and commenting, always appreciated, Magda. OF CUBES and LIGHTS...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... A cube imprisoned by lights, within a cube, on a light cube. Taken in the studio with only ambient light, no ‘star effect’filters used, comp in camera. I'm enamoured with glass, light, reflections, for all the unexpected light refractions... AGAIN CUBES and LIGHTS, IN COLOUR!

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Taken in the studio, black velvet background and no other light source but the ambient light, obviously on tripod and slow shutter speed. I added another smaller glass cube and tried different set-ups. I find that, once you have an original idea, this brings a whole lot of new ideas, no stopping me then... The green comes because this is cheap recycled glass, isn't it lovely? I'm enamoured with glass, light, reflections, for all the unexpected light refractions... POFFERTJES on CHRISTMAS MARKET Poffertjes are a traditional Dutch batter treat. Resembling small, fluffy pancakes, they are made with yeast and buckwheat flour. Unlike pancakes, they have a light, spongy texture. Typically, poffertjes are served with powdered sugar and butter. As you can see here, the art is how they are made and what they are all served with! Most festive and heart-warming. CHRISTMAS SPIRIT...

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... I had to dig deep for that one, in every sense, it was a very special, moving and private moment. We had a photo gallery and it was shortly before Christmas. I was doing the window dressing, and had decided, since Christmas is greatly connected with children to use that as a theme. I bought one of the electrical Santas holding a candle, moving his head, with a very kind and jolly face, totally new then, a huge success, kids kept dragging their parents to see it. It was in the morning, cold and drift-snow flying, nobody in the streets yet, although the angels were already singing the carols over the tannoys. Santa was doing his thing, I was giving the framed images a last wipe, when I heard a gentle thump and I looked up to see this sweet tender moment. This elderly gent stood there, looking with the joy of a child in his eyes. I grabbed my camera from the chair, I saw I had one shot on a grainy 400 iso film left to take this one off image, no time to check anything as I did not know how long he was going to brave the elements, turned out he gazed for quite some time. Then he nodded at me, a smile and he was gone, a very emotional moment! ONE SHOT!!! Always keep the child in a small corner of your heart, never let go of that wonderful feeling... May your day be full of goodness, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE SANTA...A CHRISTMAS THEME

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things, as you can see... This is the Santa the old gent is looking at so lovingly in 'Christmas Spirit' and the boy in 'LITLLE SECRETS'. It was bought as a prop. Santa's head moves and the hand holding the card (I put the card there and removed his hammer, he was in his 'workshop'!), in his other hand he is holding a candle. When I have my grandchildren here on Christmas,I bring it out for them, aahh to see those little faces, wonderful... Have a magic time, take care of each other and yourself, Magda. LITTLE SECRETS...A CHRISTMAS THEME

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Every year, from when he was a baby, we photographed this boy, then one of the photos was chosen and made into a Christmas card the family sent to their friends. Every year I had to come up with a different idea. I particularly like this one, it is the same electrical Father Christmas as in the image called 'Christmas Spirit', (to come) The little boy became so fascinated and involved, stroking the beard, holding Santa's moving hand gently, looking deep into the kind, artificial eyes. So full of that wondrous marvel only children or very old people seem to posses, it looked like they were having a secret conversation. All the little secrets... May your day be filled with joy, thanx for visiting, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) CHRISTMAS SKATES... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... From a commission to do the poster and flyers for a Christmas market with an ice rink as the main attraction. I contacted an ex-skating champion, who kindly lent us these. They are the type called, in Holland, Belgium and Germany, 'NOREN' (meaning of Norway). They are long and very flat and are used for speed and long distance. The short, higher ones are for hockey and very high for figure skating This was one of the many ideas I had. The proper shoot was done on the technical (Horseman) camera, on transparency film, 4x5". I've always liked this one. Graduated bg, I have great fake snow, looks more real than the real stuff. Hope your day is filled with warmth and all things good, thanx for visiting, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH...... don't tell ANYONE you've seen me!!! CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH, don't tell ANYONE you've seen me!!! 't was after midnight, we'd again worked late, the lights in our Christmas tree were on, some candles spread their wonderful light and made everything flickering sparkly. We relaxed in front of the fire, to unwind and enjoy, before going to bed. The previous night a dusting of snow had whitened our world, the day was bitterly cold with a biting frost. I heard a tinkling bell in the silence of the night, a slight knock on the door... I opened and there was Father Christmas, he was on one of his pre-Christmas rounds, to see how 'good' everybody was, what they deserved, or not... (he doesn't always get it right, but maybe that's his helpers?) and he had been caught in a blizzard! Saw our lovely inviting home... I quickly invited him in, he took of his hat, the gentleman that he is... I saw how wet and icy it was and offered to hang it up to dry. I fixed him a hot drink, we sat and chatted, he asked how my photography was going, (he really does know EVERYTHING!), was I happy with my new camera? And why had I not waited... he would have put one under the tree for me... I blushed and confessed that I'm not the most 'patient' of people. He smiled and stroked his beard. Well, warmed up and dry, he was ready to go, lots to do, deadlines to meet, gosh it all sounded so familiar... A hug, I waved him out, another bell-jingling, ho-ho-ho...then he was gone... that's when I woke up! I put on one of the white gloves I use for handling precious negs, trannies and prints. The Santa is actually a hat... another prop! Lol. I wish you a bright and lovely day and thanx for your visit and comments, M, (*__*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A MODERN CHRISTMAS TALE...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! Christmas 2013... AAAHHH, at last the day arrived to open the 'magic' cupboard again, the Christmas cupboard, it always holds a few surprises of things you just forgot about yet like very much. A wonderful trip of re-discovery, haha. It had gone smoothly, I was pleased. The tree was up, the whole place filled with the Christmas aromas of pine and orange and cinnamon and candle-wax. Outside the wind was howling and playing with everything lying loose? I greatly enjoy the silence of night, but on this occasion, I was listening to seasonal music, varied, from bells to music box to angel-singing. Humming along, dreaming of Christmases past, yes the whole family passed the review. Myself as a little girl… my children little again, yeah time does fly. I was enjoying the moment, relaxing, everything sparkling in the flickering candle-flames and twinkly lights. When suddenly I heard the most almighty booming voice, I sat up, it was outside, I jumped up and looked through the window… and there he stood, Santa, in the snow, on a roof. The bag he was carrying was full and heavy. He was looking up at the sky; I followed his gaze and saw nothing. I rushed outside, now I could hear what he was hollering: “Ruuudolf, Ruuuuuuudolf” Oh dear, poor man, I saw the footsteps where he’d been, the chimney… I saw how he had dirtied his beautiful red coat’s white trimming on the soot? I shouted up: “is there anything I can do?” He turned and almost slipped, looked down and said: “Yes, that’s very kind of you; I’m in trouble, I had so many mince pies I just could not get through the chimney… So, please, can you call Rudolf with me?” So there we were, both of us: “Ruuudolf, Ruuuuuuudolf” We waited, could we hear anything? I looked around; light after light came on, every house lit up. Neighbours came out, soon all were calling: “Ruuudolf, Ruuuuuuudolf” At last, the sleigh bells in the distance, Rudolf was rushing through the night. He halted next to his master: “Well? Rudolf? What do you have to say for yourself? You know we have much work and not so much time? Hmmmm?” Rudolf’s nose was redder than ever; he bent over gently and whispered something in Santa’s beard, everybody on tiptoes curious, eyes wide open. Santa started to roar with laughter, his belly shaking. Before climbing under the warm blanket in the sleigh, he turned and smiled at us: “Thank you for helping me, my dear friends, all is well; in the team there is a new reindeer, a first year youngster, doing his best, only slowed it down a little and in this weather I am not the most patient of men! Be good and Merry Christmas… HOHOHOOOOO” And he was gone. We looked at each other, shook hands; here we were; people from Africa, Asia, Europe… from all over. Then shyness overtook again, each returning home, light after light went out, darkness and silence descended in the street. All was back to the usual, each in our homes, doing our thing, living our lives. I sighed; it had been a good moment. I sat down again in the warmth, when in front of the fire, I saw a parcel, ooh I was torn, wait until Christmas? Or open it now? I’m also not the most patient, so I tore the colourful outer wrapping… gently unfolded the tissue paper and out came a beautiful angel, smiling kindly holding a heart. My soul filled with joy, I must be doing something right? I walked over to my tree and put my new treasure in a prominent place. Hope you enjoyed it? THE WINGS of ANGELS...ANOTHER CHRISTMAS STORY...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things, as you can see... A STORY IN THREE IMAGES, this is the first in the series In our home, we have a cupboard. Nothing extraordinary there? Except, it is opened only once a year, it is where our Christmas decorations are kept. I still feel the same excitement I felt when I was a little girl, and I'd climb the stairs, behind my dad, up to the (huge) attic, yes... open 'the cupboard' holding all the cardboard boxes with the shiny glass baubles, the sparkling garlands.. It wasn't heavy, so I was allowed to help, and ooooh, when I opened the first box, I smelled the pine and wax from years past... Most of the treasures you remember and look forward to seeing again, many are a renewed surprise. Last Sunday, it was the moment, the tree was put up, the lights were working, the wreath hanging on the door, it was all going smoothly... Wind and sleety rain battering against the windows, nice and snug indoors, I was slowing down, growing a little tired... when I heard the most heavenly music, voices singing of a Silent Night, I opened the door, three little angels stood there, bedragled and cold. I rushed them quickly inside, rinsed off their wings and hung them up to dry. Made the angels a nice warm drink, in no time, they'd recovered and sang their songs of bells that jingle, chestnut roasting, some drummer-boy,things in a pear tree? They helped me decorating in a festive and jolly mood, lighting the candles, arranging the Holly. One of them felt the feathers, they were dry, they fluffed them up a little, stroked some smooth, time to go... Two were quick to don their wings, I noticed that one was a bit slower, turned to me and whispered, I've not been an angel for very long, this is my first Christmas, bbbrrrr... The music echoed in the distance for a brief moment, aaaahhh, what a lovely dream, now I still had to finish what I had started! I carried on with renewed zest...when I suddenly saw, where the wings had been drying... three lost feathers... I wish you a day full of peace and goodness, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE NEW 2012 CHRISTMAS STORY... THE 2012 CHRISTMAS STORY... THE ANGEL and its BIG WINGS......

The wind was whistling around the house, dancing a rondo with dry fallen leaves. I sat in my chair, warm and cosy, yes, once again, the Christmas cheer and sparkle filling our home and hearts. I closed my eyes and listened to the pretty music, the bells, the harps, music box... Do you remember? Last year, three angels visited, I dried their wings and the little angels flew off happily with their soft wings, and all I had left with was three feathers? For on angel it was a first Christmas, hadn't been an angel for long... still an apprentice really. But, good material, great potential... otherwise, so I was told... you do not get any wings at all! Well, this time, I felt the gentlest caress on my cheek, hihi, it tickled, I brushed it away, but it was there again, it was the angel, I recognised it, and how it had grown, smiled and said: "Yes, you remember me, you were so kind to us, we had fun, he? I wanted to come and tell you myself: I got my BIG wings!" "How wonderful! That pleases me greatly! Well done my angel! You must be thrilled? But, can I ask you, what did you do to earn them?" The angel blushed a little; I said “Oh, maybe you can't tell me?" "No, no, I can, only, it seems so minor, all I had to do was watch over you and your loved ones... and, I know that now and then I made a small mistake, like when you lost your camera-lens-hood in the dunes in Belgium, and, oohhh, do you remember, you almost tripped on the stairs in Holland when you visited your son and family, I was just able to grab you, aah and I..." I put out my hand and touched the silk sleeve: "Please, my dear, you deserve your Big wings! You kept us all safe, that IS the most important, I am so grateful to you! Come sit closer, and please can I take a portrait of you? The family are arriving on Christmas day, and I would love to tell them and show them?" The angel smiled again: "Of course!" I ran upstairs for my camera, came back, a quick make-shift studio, black-background up, the angel was very patient, yes, really 'had the patience of an angel', haha. I took the photo. The angel came closer and whispered: "I am sorry; I have to go now, with the new wings come more responsibilities. Just wanted you to see them!" I felt a gentle kiss on my forehead, again the tickle on my cheek from the wings. Silence. I was alone again. I picked up my camera, so curious to see... And THIS is what I had captured... THE BIG WINGS... ANGELS TO LISTEN TO. OF MY ANGELS and MEMORIES... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see As you can see in my profile, I was born in Bruges, the captital of the province of West-Flanders,Belgium. All my family were born there, my parents moved away, but we visited weekly! Now, on the beautiful Market square, surrounded by beautiful old buildings and steeped in history, there was a shop, and they sold porcelain and china. My mother was always for quality, she was a regular client, now me, as a little girl, the place gave me the heebeedjeebees, all the breakables displayed naked around me, no skipping here... At Christmas, things magicaly changed, it became an Alladin's cave of attractive decorations for the festive season. I remember my eyes getting bigger than they usually already were. Mum was in a good mood and said: " be carefull!!! But you can chose two ornaments..." WOW, there were Kings and camels, sheep and shepherds, donkeys and mangers, flying angels and then... those two, the one holding a Lyre, the other a Horn, I loved the little faces, everything about them. I cherished and treasured them all my life. Grand-parents, parents... long gone now. My angels come out every year. It is strange, I moved a lot, things inevitably get 'lost', others broken, however some things seem to just always come along, they are one of them. They've gathered dust and crust of many years... I find it fitting... after all, we grew 'mature' together. Every year good to see them back... memories... Sprinkle a bit of festive angle-dust around you, you'll feel great! Don't ever let the child in you die! I wish you all the very best, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. THE CHRISTMAS CHOIR... A Carolling they go...

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... This is a small (12/18cm) oil painting I made with pallet knives some years ago. Made it for Christmas because that year the 'theme' was music and instruments. We get asked to photograph Artworks, to light them properly and evenly so that the colours are true, it is not evident. Just a bit of fun, hope you like it. Have a happy day and thanx for viewing, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see A heart-given image. In the Skandinavian countries, it is quite traditional to have handmade and sewn decorations in white and red... I have shoots where they give me things to photograph and never want it back, that means I can do my free photography when I have time, and after that, it goes to the charity shop. MY WINTERBABIES... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... At Christmas, here in the Northern Hemisphere, our gardens and most plants are hibernating and invisible. So, what do we do, we bring plants inside, the shops are brimming with Poinsettias, large and small, red or white, with Hyacynths, pink, blue and white. With Amaryllis and gorgeous bouquets with Winter-green and colour. My Winterbabies (as I call them) are to decorate the plant pots, they sit on them, hang on them, they look cheerful and a bit naughty, they make me smile. Brought them into the studio and 'played' with them and some ideas I had. Hope they make you smile too and remember, the world is a harsh place, so always keep the child in a small corner of your heart, never let go of that wonderful feeling... IN THE SWING OF CHRISTMAS...

At Christmas, here in the Northern Hemisphere, our gardens and most plants are hibernating and invisible. So, what do we do, we bring plants inside, the shops are brimming with Poinsettias, large and small, red or white, with Hyacinths, pink, blue and white. This one was enjoying a Holly swing, look at that smile... especially after I added some 'snow'... Hope they make you smile too and remember, the world is a harsh place, so always keep the child in a small corner of your heart, never let go of that wonderful feeling... GOLD LEAF...

A Fern leaf that thinks it is a (Christmas?) tree... lol. It came in a mixed flower-bouquet, I loved the way it looked so much that I put it in a separate vase, lovely... and sprayed it gold! There are four particular types of habitats that ferns are found in: moist, shady forests; crevices in rock faces, especially when sheltered from the full sun; acid wetlands including bogs and swamps; and tropical trees. I often see them on roofs, walls, places where NOTHING else grows. Ferns have been studied and found to be useful in the removal of heavy metals, especially arsenic, from the soil. WOODEN TOY SOLDIER NUTCRACKER... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... The nutcrackers that we are used to seeing at Christmas time, we call the wooden toy soldier nutcrackers even though they come in many different characters besides the traditional soldier. These nutcrackers were seen in many homes in the Erzgebirge (the mountainous region in the eastern part of Germany which borders the Czech Republic) even before 1800. This was a mining region, and during the long Winter months, the men spent their time making wooden products for the family. It was tradition that a nutcracker in the window kept the family safe from evil spirits and danger. The first nutcrackers were made in the design of kings and soldiers. They were made by common folk, who liked to have the kings and soldiers working for them, cracking their nuts... In 1872 Wilhelm Füchtner, known as the “father of the nutcracker,” made the first commercial production of nutcrackers using the lathe to create many of the same design. The one I photographed here, about 30 cm tall, is actually NOT a nutckracker, though his mouth does open and close, it is a music box, from a collector... ALL THE INGREDIENTS FOR...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! Warm cheers, santé, and keep warm... Fragrances for Christmas Mulled wine is a drink usually made with red wine along with various spices and fruits. It is served hot or warm and may be alcoholic or non-alcoholic. It is traditional during winter, especially around Christmas also called Glühwein. It was first recorded as spiced and heated in First Century Rome. The Romans travelled all across Europe, conquering much of it and trading with the rest. The legions brought wine and viticulture with them up to the Rhine and Danube rivers and to the Scottish border bringing their recipes with them. Very much part of tradition now! SWEETS FOR MY SWEET...

For December I am still uploading images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things, as you can see... STRIPED CANDY CANES. In its early form, the candy cane began as a simple white stick of sugar for children to eat - there was no "cane" shape or stripes to speak of. While it is uncertain where the first canes originated, it is clear that by the mid-17th century, if not earlier, its use had already become widespread across Europe. The distinctive "hook" shape associated with candy canes is traditionally credited to a choirmaster at Cologne Cathedral in Germany, who, legend has it, in 1670 bent straight candy sticks into canes to represent a shepherd's crook, and gave them to children at church services. It is also possible that, as people decorated their Yule trees with food, the bent candy cane was invented as a functional solution. THE BELL AND BOW... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... THE BELL AND BOW, sounds like an old english pub! A small brass bell tied with a red bow. Bells are also very prominent in the festive season, for some reason. In Victorian times, it was very fashionable to go carol singing with small handbells to play the tune of the carol. Some times there would only be the bells and no singing!!! Handbell ringing is still popular today. A bell is a simple sound-making device. The bell is a percussion instrument and an idiophone. Its form is usually a hollow, cup-shaped object, which resonates upon being struck. The striking implement can be a tongue suspended within the bell, known as a clapper, a small, free sphere enclosed within the body of the bell or a separate mallet or hammer. Bells are usually made of cast metal, but small bells can also be made from ceramic or glass. Bells can be of all sizes: from tiny dress accessories to church bells weighing many tons. Historically, many bells were made to commemorate important events or people and have been associated with the concepts of peace and freedom. The study of bells is called campanology. I wish you a day full of peace and goodness, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) "Jingle Bells" is one of the best-known and commonly sung American Christmas songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) and published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the autumn of 1857. Even though it is now associated with the Christmas and holiday season, it was actually originally written to be sung for American Thanksgiving. I love bells for the Holiday season... I wish you all a very good day and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, invites and faves. Very much appreciated. M, (*_*) PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! CELEBRATION...

The last of my December images to do with the festive season. This was many different things... as you have seen... It is people that make a site what it is, and 500px is indeed, as so many have said before me, like a big social circle, you make friends... I enjoy the fact that it is so very International. On top of everything else, here the common factor, our love for our photography. We share our images, each time giving a little bit of ourselves away. It is amazing what photos often tell about the person who took them! I thank you for sharing your images and your time. I arranged this so that the 'angelhair' would look like the Champagne is flooooooowing. Have a great time and A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A CROWN OF JINGLING BELLS... ON A CHRISTMAS THEME

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... Time for the decorations to come out, rediscovering old and new memories. Make the home festive, another way of being creative, goes together with the usual upset of lights not working, untangling ribbon I had so carefully packed... A number of times I'd put this 'wreath' of brass bells and red ribbon, hanging on one of our inner doors, on my head for fun (and because I'm a bit mad???), now it was serious! Crowned by the jingling bells, lol! May your w-e be full of goodness, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) SMALL BAGS FOR SMALL PRESENTS?

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! They say it is recession, which is a slowdown or a massive contraction in economic activities. A significant fall in spending generally leads to a recession. It is global, so many have to go with less. But beware... small presents can often contain much more than the bigger ones? Also, if it is given with much love and care... the meaning will be there! I wish you all the best and thank you, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS: http://www.indigo2photography.co.uk/magda-portfolio.htm Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

OF PEACE...

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... I photographed the two wooden 'peace' doves, put some ribbon on, added the text and some Holly: PEACE ON EARTH, for ALL PEOPLE of GOODWILL. My wish to friends and family. I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent. — Gandhi We can dream, he? Now I'm off to start the food, and start the feast, cheers! SENDING YOU our VERY BEST WISHES and Kisses under the MISTLETOE...

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... COME COME, nicely in a queue... LOL!!!!!!!! According to Christmas custom, any two people who meet under a hanging of mistletoe are obliged to kiss. The Pagan custom may be of Scandinavian origin. It was described as early as 1820 by Washington Irving in his "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon": "The mistletoe is still hung up in farm-houses and kitchens at Christmas and the young men have the privilege of kissing the girls under it, plucking each time a berry from the bush. When the berries are all plucked the privilege ceases." I wish you all the very best, lots of laughter, may your wishes come true, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! Who remembers receiving/sending a telegram? LOL. The digital age brought closure on over a 160 years of history in India. The last telegram has been sent in the sub continent as the state-owned BSNL communications company shut down, in July 2013. A wink to the omportant past! I wish you all the very best, may your wishes come true, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, faves and likes. Very much appreciated. SALVO for THE NEW YEAR...

We welcomed the New Year in style, we sang, we danced, we toasted, we laughed and cried, heard the voices of loved ones, so longing to hold them tight for just a moment... Life can be beautiful and sometimes cruel and unpredictable, we live in times that families get scattered... the 'missing' can be painful, however, in a few weeks/ months, we' ll be reunited once again and make up for lost time, looking forward already! Thank you and hope you had a great time, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A HAPPY 2014 from LONDON!

A VIVALDI WINTER…

www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc_yKk0k5XE Flanders' winter-sunset waited a long time for the right moment, was on my way home when I saw this in the side mirror. I left my car on the side of the narrow road, grabbed my camera. Nikon F4 and 400asa film, scanned from neg and comp in camera! This is so very typical, the gnarled willows to keep the flat land 'dry', the sky reaching poplars, the majestic elm trees standing tall against the North wind. In winter the sun just drops,he? Ah well I got it... M, (*_~) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!)
