Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide. I now have taken on the challenge, one photo each day: a month of men with moustache and beard, LOL, HELP, will I make it? A famous Flemish actor, artist and now a glass blower too. Luk D'Heu ‘works’ a piece of glass in the furnace at the Art in Glass studio in Brugge. We were kindly invited by Marcel Vlamynck to make a reportage on glass-blowing: HOT stuff! FOR MOVEMBER. On the ‘bucket-list’ was a shoot with a glass blower, I had approached Marcel Vlamynck and he graciously agreed to open his atelier for us. We were thrilled and really enjoyed the experience. Here he shows off one of his pieces, which we bought and now every day enjoy in our home. I wish you all a very good day and thanks for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. MALE GESTURES…

FOR MOVEMBER. THIS is something men with beards DO… LOL. They stroke their beard, often when nervous? Inquisitive? Typically masculin. Mr MANDOLIN-MAN...

FOR MOVEMBER. It is interesting to photograph people, especially musicians, OBSERVE THEM FIRST, it is so much about HANDS and FEET! Before I photograph, I observe... for quite some time, and THEN: I SEE, what is for me, the essence of what I am experiencing. Duo Magit (MAndolin&GITaar) at work again, this time it was 'unplugged', at the home of one of them, 10 years later! Another amazing afternoon, plenty of music and a lot of laughter. Like so many photographers (and I'm one of them) hide behind their camera, these two were hiding behind their instruments. The weather was lovely, the concert took place in the garden. Mr mandolin-man came in, the private concert started, I think by the time we finished, they'd gone through their whole repertoire again! This is the Mr Mandolin man, a lovely man, he plays many different string instruments, was a bit peeved when was of the strings sprung and ... he hadn't brought a replacement, oops. it didn't bother me. Another lovely experience! THE UNLIKELY COACHMAN…

FOR MOVEMBER. Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide. I now have taken on the challenge, one photo each day: a month of men with moustache and beard, LOL, HELP… At the end of the resting row of horses, carriages and coach drivers, I spot another reader. No hat, he doesn’t look like a coachman? Then I ask myself, what does a coachman look like? I have seen plenty, and this one is the odd one out, more the arty or professor type? LOL Amongst the hustle and bustle of all the tourism on the market, he is sitting there again, completely absorbed in his newspaper, lost to the world around him. The Coachmen take advantage to do various activities, as you see. Some get together for a chat, some check their phones, others check their gear, a few read… This is all after taking care of their horses! They come first. I observed how well the horses were cared for in the special 'stop'. Halfway through each ride horses make a stop and the horses are fed, they get water and a rest. That is at the Beguinage and then here, on the market. Some coachmen work every day, others work only two days a week for tours. Their horses are not working every day: most horses work every four days. Some coachmen work the whole week, with often six horses to do the work or the tours. To take a romantic trip through the heart of Bruges along the canals, over the typical small bridges, over the famous cobblestones on the rhythm of the hooves of the horse, one of the most famous sounds of Bruges. THE COFFEE BREAK…

FOR MOVEMBER. Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide. I now have taken on the challenge, one photo each day: a month of men with moustache and beard, LOL, HELP… Yvan, the artist, during a photoshoot where he impersonated different characters, here with a French alpino beret. He spent a lot of time in France over the years. As a young artist, he transformed a van into a camper van, drove all through Europe and North-Africa. When he saw something inspiring, he’d climb on top of his van and paint until it was finished or dark. In the South of France he encountered a French lady of the aristocracy, she taught him a lot about pigments, making your own paints, painting with your hands and palette knives. He would tell me about the gorgeous smells of linseed oil, resin, right down to Indian cow’s urine. A joy to have in the studio. From the series: Ex- and impressions. THEY ARE THE CHEEKY BOYS...

#abfav_multicolour After a photo shoot in the studio, we just thought we'd have some creative and "free" stuff, just to unwind from all the tension. The models were game and later happy with the shots they were given. Something like this, 'fashion' photography is a different shoot altogether, it is ALWAYS important to have a good rapport with your subjects during a session, treat them with calm and respect. Sometimes it is just fun to let models do 'their' thing... Photography is a powerful medium. Too often underestimated, yet it is the perfect recording of our history, forever changing lifestyles, the all important memories... Cameras only the tools of the trade, note I write 'cameras', no distinction, it is my firm conviction that it is the person using the tools that is responsible for the result. Like in everything else, there’s ever changing TREND. You only have to look at the family/school/wedding portrait of 50-20 years ago!!!!!!!! A dynamic portrait like the above, would not have been possible, everything neatly 'all-in', best clothes, from a respectable distance. I like the way it's going, but it's taken some time... The GIRL and the PARROT...

#abfav_multicolour We had the pregnant mum in the studio first, then dad came with this little angelic tearaway... I got out this colourful Parrot, a prop we've had for years, you say something and the parrot repeats it 3 times, imitating whatever sound you made, or whatever you said... you can make it bark, miau. moo... We've had a lot of fun and laughter out of the silly thing... However the girl was fascinated, it kept her busy for a while, while the parents were getting ready for the portrait session. The studio was set before they came, she was faed in the parrot...so, bang, I got her! YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR HAT ON…

#abfav_films_songs https://youtu.be/uGBvbrXNjs0 Tom Jones PLEASE VIEW ON BLACK! ANOTHER LIGHTING EXERCISE... What do you do if you don’t have a model, oohh yes… do it all yourself! We, photographers, do love our blacks AND our HATS, come on, own up... LOL. Most photographers seem to have some kind of 'headgear', I'm no different, this black number has protected me from snow, rain and sun... and I have protected it from the wind... and flying off into the sea or the great blue-yonder. I love the challenge, the buzz of 'complicated' (black on black?)... and beyond the obvious. Bring out the mirrors, the Pneu-Air shutter cable release... prepare for muttering the odd swear word... RIEN NE VA PLUS…… DOMINO

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme This was a shoot for a glossy Casino magazine, the client wanted transparencies, I'm not fond of working with slide film so Paul was the main photographer, which means I take care of all the rest, the liaising, the models, clothes and the dresses, jewelry, hair and make-up stylist, other needs for all involved. I always have my cameras and lenses with me off course, I back up things and during breaks, I'll always have a go and enjoy myself. As I had never been in a casino, it was all new to me and challenging. The lights were set up for entertainment, leisure and pleasure. It was very important that the 'lights' on the table be visible, a lot of time spent on light-readings to have the right balance. As one of the poses was to be for the cover, we needed space for text and strap lines. Had to take that into account for the composition. "The model, just a beautiful 'accessory' = something nonessential but desirable that contributes to an effect or result." These images were taken only for my own pleasure, the model happy with them too. ALL ABOUT LOVE…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ This is my long time friend,Yvan and his lovely partner. I finally was able to convince her to join him in front of the camera, that pleased him, he grabbed her hand, held it over his heart and said something naughty and private... He is an extremely romantic man, the ladies like him and he's always charming to the ladies, but this is his true love, they are a wonderful couple. A man with many hats, loads of happy and sad stories, a wealth of interesting philosophies, tons of talents, a fantastic sense of humour, an enormous joie de vivre, superb art de vivre, great integrity and above all a very big heart in the right place. I salute him. From the series: Ex-and impressions. A fantastic exercise in lighting portraits correctly, and fill them with emotion! Taken on my Nikon F4, negs scanned and retouched lovingly! THE PHOTOGRAPHER... Paul

FUN in THE STUDIO… It is always best, during a studio session no matter how hot or stressful it is, to maintain a sense of humour amongst the more serious portraits. This was such a moment; where Paul made a gesture that makes us laugh whenever we see someone do this… I love his eyes, they can look naughty just like this! HOLDING THE FUTURE

That Sunday was another working day. We had a couple around in the studio for portraits. She was about to give birth in about three weeks. I am not writing a ‘rule’ here, just a personal observation and conclusion. I must tell you that I am one of these people who also … ‘talk’ with their hands! Maybe that influenced my feelings towards the matter. One of my fascinations in life. In a portrait, for me, they are either in or out, no half measures! Since they are so expressive, almost as much as a face (?), a means of body language and non-verbal communication, we ‘say’ so much with our hands. We touch, feel, handle, build and destroy, hurt and caress, kill and heal, make music (noise) and command or pray for silence, our hands can be rough or smooth. For more, HERE on this blog I wrote: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/01/importance-of-hands-in-p... See how important hands can be in an image! STUDIO IMPROMPTU... THE IMPORTANCE OF HANDS...

The toddler demanded daddy's attention for a moment. Hands, to me such an important element in photography, they can be as expressive as faces, speak their own language. For more, HERE on this blog I wrote: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/01/importance-of-hands-in-p... See how important hands can be in an image! GLOWING with PREGNANT JOY…

MARCH—> month of HOPE, beauty and joy. Obviously taken in the studio, this extremely happy young woman just exuded joy. I set the lighting so that the emphasis was on her belly, to make it glow, Hope this brings a bit of joy again, have a good day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) DO YOU REMEMBER, MAMA...

Special moments in the life of women. Most people will know or be able to imagine that towards the end of those 9 long months the tension and anticipation is rising, the baby can't come soon enough now. As a mother myself, I know what it means, all the love and the heartache, the joys and the tears, the happiness and sadness, the life long commitment, the eternal lifeline no matter what! It's not easy being a good parent, no schools except the school of life, you often only know you didn't do it quite right when it is too late! It's 10 times harder to correct! But, when you do get it right, the feeling is magic, you're proud. It's quite something! Here, a tender image, proper pure photography with the, nowadays, often forgotten important ingredient: EMOTION! THE WAITING... MORE REFLECTIONs of ANOTHER KIND...

Who of us is mature enough for offspring before the offspring themselves arrive? The value of marriage is not that the adults produce children but that children produce adults. - Peter de Vries- American writer (1910-1993) This is one of my images that had the most attempts at being 'imitated' , they say it is the biggest compliment????????? LOL. A tender image, proper pure photography with the, nowadays, often forgotten important ingredient: EMOTION! A young mum GREAT EXPECTATIONS wanted something special. the idea came to me in the night... like most of them. I had watched her closely and noticed that this was a gesture she often made! As a mother myself, I know what it means, all the love and the heartache, the joys and the tears, the happiness and sadness, the life long commitment, the eternal lifeline no matter what! It's not easy being a good parent, no schools except the school of life, you often only know you didn't do it quite right when it is too late! It's 10 times harder to correct if at all! But you do your best, and when you do get it right, the feeling is magic, you're proud. It's a prowess! About the image, most people will know or be able to imagine that towards the end of those 9 long months the tension and anticipation is rising, the baby can't come soon enough now. A MOTHER HOLDING THE HAND OF HER DESPERATELY ILL SON

A friend got the worst news one can get... Fighting his battle, his mother by his side, helplessly looking on, but strongly holding onto his hand, making him feel how much she loves him, trying to give him the strength that she herself does not feel... SWEET DREAMS LITTLE ONE...

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. EMOTION IN PHOTOGRAPHY! It had been a long and exciting day, she was wearing her new gown... of course! She was ready for bed, said good-night and cuddled up to her dad (also in his new dressing-gown)... in no time they were BOTH asleep! His strong hand preventing her from falling, her hand clinging her comfort toy... neither of them moved... Emotion, an IMPORTANT, all too often forgotten, ingredient in photography, more IMPORTANT than technical prowess, a photo without emotion is ... just a 'picture'? lol, Thank you for your time! BODYGUARD…

#abfav_films_songs https://youtu.be/fmh8a7aYc1s both movie and song. originally the title as: INCOGNITO NO PAPS!!! The fun after the shoot with the models, they got into the creative mood. We came up with all kinds of zany ideas, one way of unwinding. They were standing on either side of me, I felt like a star with bodyguards, told them so jokingly. They loved the concept and played the role for the camera. CHRISTMAS SPIRIT...

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... I had to dig deep for that one, in every sense, it was a very special, moving and private moment. We had a photo gallery and it was shortly before Christmas. I was doing the window dressing, and had decided, since Christmas is greatly connected with children to use that as a theme. I bought one of the electrical Santas holding a candle, moving his head, with a very kind and jolly face, totally new then, a huge success, kids kept dragging their parents to see it. It was in the morning, cold and drift-snow flying, nobody in the streets yet, although the angels were already singing the carols over the tannoy (loudspeakers in the street). Santa was doing his thing, I was giving the framed images a last wipe, when I heard a gentle thump and I looked up to see this sweet tender moment. This elderly gent stood there, looking with the joy of a child in his eyes. I grabbed my camera from the chair, I saw I had one shot on a grainy 400 asa film left to take this one off image, I did not know how long he was going to brave the elements, turned out he gazed for quite some time. Then he spotted me, nodded at me, a smile and he was gone, a very emotional moment! ONE SHOT!!! Always keep the child in a small corner of your heart, never let go of that wonderful feeling... May your w-e be full of goodness, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) The bugler of the last post...REMEMBERANCE DAY... 11.11.2011 at 11 o'clock

I break my usual uploads for the special day that is tomorrow, REMEMBERANCE DAY... Spare a moment!? It is a small series. The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing is a war memorial in Ypres, Belgium dedicated to the commemoration of British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown. It is a place where you become still... the sadness AND madness hits me each time... Another big, unaswered WHY...what was it all for? Following the Menin Gate Memorial opening in 1927, the citizens of Ypres wanted to express their gratitude towards those who had given their lives for Belgium's freedom. As such, every evening at 20:00, buglers from the local fire brigade close the road which passes under the Memorial and sound the Last Post. Except for the occupation by the Germans in World War II when the daily ceremony was conducted at Brookwood Military Cemetery, in Surrey, England, this ceremony has been carried on uninterrupted since 2 July 1928. On the very evening that Polish forces liberated Ypres in the Second World War, the ceremony was resumed at the Menin Gate despite the fact that heavy fighting was still taking place in other parts of the town. The ceremony is a solemn occasion.. it cannot leave you untouched! The echo bouncing off the thousands of names, all young men, who had no life, they gave it for us... so that we could have today our biggest treasure, FREEDOM! Let's not forget. Reginald Blomfield's triumphal arch, designed in 1921, is the entry to the barrel-vaulted passage for traffic through the mausoleum that honours the Missing, who have no known graves. The patient lion on the top is the lion of Britain but also the lion of Flanders. It was chosen to be a memorial as it was the closest gate of the town to the fighting, and so Allied Troops would have marched past it on their way to fight. Actually, most troops passed out of the other gates of Ypres, as the Menin Gate was too dangerous due to shellfire. Its large Hall of Memory contains names on stone panels of 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers who died in the Salient but whose bodies have never been identified or found. On completion of the memorial, it was discovered to be too small to contain all the names as originally planned. An arbitrary cut-off point of 15 August 1917 was chosen and the names of 34,984 UK missing after this date were inscribed on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing instead. The Menin Gate Memorial does not list the names of the missing of New Zealand and Newfoundland soldiers, who are instead honoured on separate memorials. People are still comin from all over the world every day, to look for and honour the names of long lost relatives, just the see the engraved name and try and stick a poppy next, just to say, you are not forgotten... 1 HOUR IN THE LIFE OF A PHOTOGRAPHER. Breaking the Silence, solving the 'riddle of the rope'... SONN

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! THE STORY CONTINUES... Solving the 'riddle of the rope': View On Black The young monk gets up, disappears behind one of the huge pillars, to return without his white cape, he smiles at us, half winks and nods like to say, “ now’s your moment, get ready…”, he walks towards the rope I photographed earlier, carries it till it is straight under the spire, where it disappears, high up. He takes a deep breath, a good grip, looks up and with all his force pulls it down, and then up, at last we hear the solemn tolling of the bell. The sound reverberates through everything; you hear it in- and outside, you feel it in your body. After about 3 minutes, he starts to slow the bell down, he‘s skilled at this, handles that rope expertly till the silence returns. The rope is tied back, the monk returns, caped, to his place… Why not listen to this and watch the whole set as a slideshow? www.youtube.com/watch?v=drU7ESj4HvY&feature=related For the story of Day 2, part 2: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/10/day-2-of-our-adventures-... I'M SEXY AND I KNOW IT...

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_STREET_ACTIVITY_THEME AAAHHHH THE FUN I have! Many people are 'dressed' the part!!! I could not resist taking a quick shot of this scene, one gent waiting for his pals... his boots had seen ACTION and the red socks were sexy and he knew it!!!!!!! Taken in beautiful Grassington. For those interested: Limestone hills and dry-stone walls in the west of the Yorkshire Dales. This part of the national park is popular with walkers due to the presence of the Yorkshire three peaks. In 1954 an area of 1,770 square kilometres (680 sq mi) was designated the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Most of the National Park is in North Yorkshire, though part lies within Cumbria. However, the whole park lies within the historic boundaries of Yorkshire, divided between the North Riding and the West Riding. The park is 50 miles (80 km) north east of Manchester; Leeds and Bradford lie to the south, while Kendal is to the west and Darlington to the east. The area has a large collection of activities for visitors. For example, many people come to the Dales for walking. The National Park is crossed by several long-distance routes including the Pennine Way, the Dales Way, the Coast to Coast Path and the latest national trail of the Pennine Bridleway. ARTISTS’ SHOES…

#abfav_2_together_theme I always say: you are never ‘creative’ just in one area, often in many, and us artists often feel we have to ‘express’ ourselves in other ways! LOL Here, a Belgian musician, singer, song-writer, Willemsson and artist Jook in Oostende. Both are on Facebook! A portrait of a couple, united in many ways, divided in their creativity, he is all about music, she is a Neo-expressionism surrealism doodle-artist. All ON THE GO…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME KINGS CROSS STATION LONDON... Springs mean travel/holiday for many, not only the birds that trek South, lol. Sitting on a low wall, waiting on Sunday noon, King’s Cross Station in London, it was stifling hot. Instead of being bored and impatient, I decided to pass the time being 'creative'... I noticed all the people hurrying by and also, especially, that EVERYBODY was lugging bags, lots of bags, of all types, colours and designs. Spotted, striped, floral, classic, coloured. I wondered, what were they all transporting? Can we not go anywhere without our ‘wheeled’ carriers? Often not one but more, backpacks, plastic, leather, designed, handbags, so many. All different, just like the people, their shoes, legs and leg wear! I saw people traveling alone, in pairs, in group, I saw them smile, I saw them laugh, I saw some cry, I saw some depressed and some tired, people of all walks of life. I saw hellos and I saw good-byes... all the emotions ... I became smilingly fascinated and eventually left feeling a great sense of joy because of this series. I feel so biased, I like them ALL, LOL, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) The flowers are already fading and loosing some petals, the chocolates been gobbled up, the Champagne savoured, all that remains is the LOVE. I mostly wear Japanese tabi socks when I'm home, they are extremely comfortable and as I hate ANY slippers, they are much better than running around in stockings or socks. I love barefoot too... PARAPLUIE ROUGE…

To love and protect? I find this a very symbolic image, he holds the umbrella, PROTECT,(even though it was a sunny day) she SUPPORTS him in the back with a loving gesture, there's lightness and darkness and brightness, there's rough patches and soft patches, overall it has a happy atmosphere. A beginning for these beautiful young people on the road of life... You know I love red in a photo! Hihi. The bugler of the last post in Ieper…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ The Menin Gate Memorial to the ‘Missing’ is a war memorial in Ypres, Belgium dedicated to the commemoration of British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown. It is a place where you become still... the sadness AND madness hits me each time... Another big, unanswered WHY...what was it all for? "All Wars Arise For The Possession Of Wealth" (Plato) Following the Menin Gate Memorial opening in 1927, the citizens of Ypres wanted to express their gratitude towards those who had given their lives for Belgium's freedom. THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY…

DAY 7 As the Grenadier Guards are standing tall, I hear a flighty sound and beat of drums. What is coming? A feast for the eyes… The Company of Pikemen & Musketeers. It turns out that the Company of Pikemen & Musketeers are a ceremonial unit of the Honourable Artillery Company and one of only six royally warranted bodies in the UK. Seventeenth century marches and music are provided by the Company’s own drums and fifes. They come to a halt in front of me, when I spot this lovely detail. The gloved hands of a musketeer holding his drumsticks. SAX BABY...

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ Was in Holland, studio and all for a big architectural job in Amsterdam. An assistant asked if I'd have the time to take some portraits of her and her sister. The girl also played the saxophone and had tentatively brought her instrument. I didn't mind, so long as I could do some shots for myself... Also brought the baby. In an unplanned moment of pause, a blow on the sax to the surprise of the baby, where was this sound coming from? Out of that shiny toy? LOL Just had time to pick up my camera and take the photo... ALWAYS be ready? SUCH GENUINE AFFECTION.... between man and animal, SO BEAUTIFUL!

I love photographing horses, not the easiest to do, there are standards, but with the help of the breeders it usually becomes a very pleasant and exciting experience. Here was a fortuitous moment, as a photographer, yes you have to focus on the main subject and there is MUCH to think about and concentrate on, but as a creative you stay aware of what is going on around you, and these 'off' images often become my favourite shots... This is the mother in the family that breeds horses, it is tough and yet rewarding. They witness the birth and tend to the foals with love and yet when they 'lose' one, they are quite stoic about it... Such tenderness, closeness, emotion, just HAD to be captured. I wrote a BLOG about THE IMPORTANCE of HANDS in PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY: click HERE: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/01/importance-of-hands-in-p... I uploaded a small series here, well, it was hard to choose... INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY…

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day is marked on March 8 every year. It is a major day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements. Now you all know that I am a passionate photographer. One of the reasons why I love it is that it can be so versatile, it is NOT just working in a studio, it opens all kinds of experiences, because of my job, I had a (rare) insight into many different and more unusual lives. Examples include: the inside world of BBC, both radio and TV and its people there, the introverts and the extroverts, I'll let you figure out who's who...… Universities, the professors and their advanced research and researchers… I experienced the tensions and vigilance on the bridge of a huge Ferry in one of the busiest sea-lanes in the world, the captain, his crew and their advanced technology... and another on the Irish Sea A small shrimp trawler, the hardship of fishing during the night, managed by a skipper and his mate… A veterinary surgeon performing complicated operations… Ballet dancers in their studios, showing us the tough regime and performing their art… A brief glimpse into the interesting world of travellers… The behind the scenes of a casino, where you really get the sense of drama that goes on there often, it’s a place of ‘mysterious mood’ to me… Several times travelled through Europe, in a truck, a world within our world… a world people do not know much about, day and night, monotonous drives on looooong stretches of road, and the people that transport EVERYTHING we have in our homes. As a woman, to visit and get the tour of a mosque, being shown and everything… A lady at her home, mother and wife, waiting for a ‘better’ day, so that I could take portraits of her, with her boys, her husband… because she was terminally ill with cancer… The world of horse-breeders, farmers, bikers, fish-smokers, painters, glass-artist, sculptors, singers, actors, business entrepreneurs, politicians, president and so many more... I photographed the weddings, new-borns, the deceased, the young, the’ in love’, the sad and lonely, the happy, the old, been in the presence of world-famous people… people are people to me… I enjoyed it… Yes, I enjoy it, in case you had not received that message yet, lol! There is very little, if anything, we cannot do! I want to thank the men who help us achieve and give us the opportunities to work alongside. www.flickr.com/photos/9550033@N04/5502358791/ Get Real! Wise Women Speak...official trailer (for once I was in front of the camera not behind it; a self portrait was used as a still in the film). This film fits right in! HEY, LISTEN…

DAY 4 The horses and carriages are resting on the market. The Coachmen take advantage to do various activities, as you will see. Some get together for a chat, like these two here. She is wearing a ‘canotier’, a ‘boater’ which is made of straw, the boater was and is generally regarded as a warm-weather hat. It is normally made of stiff straw. In cooler weather it is a bowler that they wear, like he does here! To take a romantic trip through the heart of Bruges along the canals, over the typical small bridges on the rhythm of the hooves of the horse, one of the most famous sounds of Bruges. I often had a good opportunity to observe how well the horses were cared for in the special 'stop'. Halfway through each ride horses make a stop and the horses are fed, they get water and a rest. that is at the Beguinage. Some coachmen work every day, others work only two days a week for tours. Their horses are not working every day: most horses work every four days. Some coachmen work the whole week, with often six horses to do the work or the tours. THE UNLIKELY READING COACHMAN…

DAY 4 At the end of the resting row of horses, carriages and coach drivers, I spot an other reader. To take a romantic trip through the heart of Bruges along the canals, over the typical small bridges, on the rhythm of the hooves of the horse, one of the most famous sounds of Bruges. IN MEMORY...

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ Today, traditionally, the Catholic Church celebrate All Saints Day today and All Souls Day tomorrow. Now for some reason, on the first, in Belgium, THAT is the day that the graves of loved ones are visited. I remember also, that was the day you got to wear your new Winter outfit for the first time. I always felt that, on the cemeteries, when I was a girl, because it was/ is a family affair, people were parading new hats and coats, lolol. aaahhh the memories. It is also the done thing, to see, beforehand, that the graves are clean, no weeds or wilted flowers, but Chrysanthemums are put everywhere! IN MEMORY... a poignant detail of the beautifully carved statue of a kneeling angel, overlooking the vast expanse of the Irish sea, from the St Tudno cemetery. This is a very special place, where Christians have been worshiping for more than 1400 years. The churchyard, within the boundary wall surrounding the church, was for many years the main burial place for the people of Llandudno, whose coffins and gravestones had to be brought up the steep roads of the Great Orme. The earliest inscribed stones date from the 18th century, the latest I saw was 2004... On the northern side of the Great Orme, North Wales, nestling in a sheltered hollow, you find the church of Saint Tudno with its churchyard and the adjacent town cemetery, still in regular use. This little church, open daily during the season, was built in the 12th century on a Christian site dating from the 6th century and dedicated to the memory of its founder St. Tudno (feast day June 5th). The ancient church of St. Tudno is a place of pilgrimage, peace and prayer and is an active place of worship within the Parish of Llandudno, including weekly open air services during the summer. There is a timeless and carefree feel to this place, your lungs are so full of fresh air it fills your head too, leaving no room for life's woe. It's hauntingly beautiful up there, with the sound of the wind and sea; and the ever rushing cloud chariots casting their passing shadows over the land. If you want to get high and forget all you troubles, put things back into perspective, go to the top of the Great Orme, stand there, tears streaming down your cheeks. Joy? Emotion? The wind? Probably all of it. Who cares, it just made it more difficult to look through the viewer, haha. Have a super day and thank you, M (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

NIMBLE FINGERS...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Fuengirola, Andalusia, Spain. Loving the sea, we ALWAYS look for the local 'working' harbour, interesting and thrilling, different... and similar. Often you will see the older fishermen, they cannot stay away and often it is sons and family who continue the traditions, the fishing, they tend and mend the nettings... Their eyes are keen on spotting a hole and their hands are nimble! Also, like everywhere, they are camera shy. I always try and engage in conversation with them, letting my camera in my bag or have it casually hanging on my hand... FLAMENCO SWIRL

#abfav_holidays_theme GRANADA, ANOTHER HOUR IN THE LIFE OF A PHOTOGRAPHER... Often our holidays are combined with ‘work’…. We arrive at the Flamenco School on time after quite a treck through narrow steep winding streets, it says on the beautiful old door: Escuela Carmen de las Cuevas. It is too dark to photograph, we must hurry. We are led into a cellar-like row of vaulted small rooms, introduced to dancers, guitarists, singers... onto the small studio where the advanced dancers are already warming up. As in every dance studio, the performers are NOT wearing the 'stage' finery! But comfortable warm/cool clothing, also always lots of water bottles, it is very dehydrating exercise! One wall of a dance studio is always mirror. Paul and I look at each other and grin... interesting... the size of the room, the lights, the reflections... how are we going to keep OUT of the picture? The teacher comes in, he shows the ladies some steps, they follow, the floor starts to shake and 'thunder', it goes right through you! What an experience! The rhythm is wonderful, I see the important attention also on the hand-movements. The counting goes on, the clapping, the feet so fast. A guitar player comes in after a short break... a deep swallow of water and they're off again... It is a Bulería, which originated in Jerez during the 19th century, originally as a fast, upbeat ending to soleares or alegrias. It is among the most popular and dramatic of the flamenco forms and often ends any flamenco gathering. The name bulerías comes from the Spanish word burlar, meaning "to mock" or bullería, "racket, shouting, din". It is the style which permits the greatest freedom for improvisation, the metre playing a crucial role in this. Speed and agility are required and total control of rhythm as well as strength in the feet which are used in intricate tapping with toe, heel and the ball of the foot. Paul and I are transfixed... then it is over... Silence, the smell of perspiration, the sounds reverberating, atremble still, our adrenaline still pumping... one young lady stays behind, slides down, takes off her dancing shoes, massages her feet, takes care of the blisters... A wan smile, we say good-bye and thank you, disappear into the night, silent and still very affected by the whole thing. Another unique experience! Thanks, hope you enjoy? SPINNING THE WOOL...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! An old craft. Not something you see often these days, where clothing has become so cheap? Treadle wheel? Anybody know? This type of wheel is powered by the spinner's foot rather than their hand or a motor. The spinner sits and pumps a foot treadle that turns the drive wheel via a crankshaft and a connecting rod. This leaves both hands free for drafting the fibres, which is necessary in the short draw spinning technique, which is often used on this type of wheel. HANDY CRAFT...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! The end product was very pleasing, I love the natural colours. Sometimes the lady dyes the wool, also with natural dyes. DILEMMA... INTERESTING PHILOSOPHICAL READ!

WHO SAYS PHOTOGRAPHY DOESN’T LIE? OR DOES IT? Walking towards the entrance of the harbour on the walls, towards the end on the thick parapet, I thought how much this lady enjoyed the warm sunrays stroking her legs. I looked for the right comp and took the photo… as I walked closer I started to realize not all was what it seemed… She was sobbing. She had just scattered her mum’s ashes and was watching the waves taking her beloved on an eternal voyage … I had a dilemma here, upload or not? Did I make this story up or not, is the image true or false? Does it matter from a photographic perspective... I’d be very interested in your view, so please do not just view, let me know, It means a lot to me, THANX, and have a fine day, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) LE TOUR DU MONDE d'UN GAMIN DE PARIS 2...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! The singer/songwriter of this song (my boys loved it!) and the lyrics, is our friend Willem Vermandere. It is the story of a lad from Paris, who travels the world... all his adventures! On our way home in the car, after a pleasant meal and afternoon we spent together with Willem; it suddenly emerged that the song of story of the boy in the attic was true… except… the book had survived! Not burned, like it says in the song! In his home, it was brought down and in awe we leafed through it, admiring the drawings. I was amazed; it brought back so many memories. Listened to the melody and words so often and here Willem sat, holding it, hugging it. Red and gold, the spine and corners a little frayed, the pages somewhat yellowed, but for a book that was printed in 1876, it looked beautiful! What a GOLDEN moment. Always fascinated by hands and how expressive they are! FOR THE WHOLE STORY and CONTENT, see here magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/09/let-me-tell-you-story-on... A DELICACY for SUNDAY…

Tour of Europe 04 2016
Day 14 Switzerland is a country known for, among other things, cheese and engineering. So here we have, the Girolle, which is the unique cutter and Tête de Moine. , which is the cheese that goes with it. Near the town of Bellelay in the lush mountains of Switzerland’s Jura region, Tête de Moine cheese was invented over 800 years ago by the monks of the Bellelay Abbey. Eventually, the monks began to teach the local farmers how to make the cheese, which was at first simply known as Bellelay. After the French Revolution, the name of the cheese was changed to Tête de Moine. There are two competing theories as to the origin of this name. According to one story, the monks charged the farmers what we would today call a license fee: in return for permission to make the monks’ special cheese, the farmers had to give the abbey one cheese each year per monk; hence, “Monk’s Head.” A more colourful theory—and what I had always assumed to be the case—was that the cheese was called “Monk’s Head” because that’s what it looks like. The traditional monastic haircut, called a tonsure, is a shaved crown (leaving a ring of hair around the outside). According to tradition, this cheese must never be cut or sliced. Instead, you must first slice off the top rind of a whole cheese, then for each serving, scrape a thin layer from the top of the round, working at an angle so as to make the edges crinkle. This forms the cheese shaving into a small flower shape called a rosette. THOSE MINIES… WILD STRAWBERRIES

The Wild strawberries from our garden, here to show you how small they really are! So get the sense of proportion. And these are some of the 'larger' ones. They are different from most fruits in that their seeds are produced on the outside of the fruit - this combined with their bright red colour has the unfortunate side-effect of making them very attractive to birds. I told you our garden was friendly for man and beast, hihi, now will we have to 'fight' over those little delicacies? AGAIN A PHOTO-THIEF @WORK!!!! STOP

Yesterday I discovered a man, quite savvy in Photoshop, had made a photo, using TWO of my photos. Yes out of the thousands I have, I DO recognise them! He had flipped one, made another smaller to fit his concoction. I will not name and shame him, because after being contacted he removed the photo from all the places he had posted it. No apology though!!! How sad, do people really not know what COPYRIGHT means, in SIMPLE words... IF IT IS NOT YOUR IMAGE, THEN, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO IT!!! Copyright is a form of intellectual property, as patents, trademarks and trade secrets are! It is an INFRINGEMENT of the LAW to use it without permission! IT IS STEALING! The law is in place, the problem is the difficulty in enforcing it.IT IS STEALING! Would you go to an art gallery to cut two pieces of canvas out of two different paintings, then go home and stick them together and call the work your own? If you love an image SOOOOO MUCH that you'd like to 'use' it, you have the duty and obligation to ask the creative brain behind the image AND HAVE THE COURTESY and DECENCY then to credit the artist, like you would with a painting or sculpture! Nowadays, there is Image Recognition Software and whatever anyone does to a photo, IT WILL FIND IT! Each photo has a specific DNA. I was fuming! But, aaach watermarks, tried that... give me 5 minutes and I'll remove it, and I'm not even so great in PS? It has become the nature of the beast, nothing is safe or sacred! The moment your photos are out there they are vulnerable. If you do not want them stolen, don't publish. A very sad state of affairs. And when I do come across a stolen photo. Thanks, M, (*_*)

HAND-SOME...

I FEEL GREAT, BECAUSE, EVEN AFTER ALL THE "DISLIKES"... I NOW HAVE 475.000 VIEWS, 42.600 LIKES AND 19.200 FAVES!!!! The more you dislike, the more I upload and you eventually run out??? I have images galore!

THE BEST TOOLS IN THE WORLD... they are fascinating, HANDS...
They can give and take... We touch, feel, handle, build and destroy, hurt and caress, kill and heal, make music (noise) and command or pray for silence, our hands can be rough or smooth.
Only Man has hands. We use them as a tool, to make tools, and as a weapon, they serve as eyes for the visually impaired, we can 'talk' with them, they have become a symbol of salutation, supplication, and condemnation...
I like this image for the depth and graphic quality.

I FEEL GREAT, BECAUSE, EVEN AFTER ALL THE "DISLIKES"... I NOW HAVE 474.000 VIEWS, 42.600 LIKES AND 19.200 FAVES!!!! The more you dislike, the more I upload and you eventually run out??? I have images galore! A studio impromptu! To understand this image you really have to know that, this was a portrait session of a very pregnant lady, her husband standing behind her and embracing her belly. The toddler was demanding daddy's attention, I love the contrast, the tiny hand, the strong hands, the interlaced fingers. The 'link'... HOLDING THE FUTURE...

My AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ That Sunday was another working day. We had a couple around in the studio for portraits. She was about to give birth in about three weeks. I am not writing a ‘rule’ here, just a personal observation and conclusion. In a portrait, for me, they are either in or out, no half measures! I must tell you that I am one of these people who also ‘talk’ with their hands! Maybe that influenced my feelings towards the matter. One of my fascinations in life. Since they are so expressive, almost as much as a face (?), a means of body language and non-verbal communication, we 'say' so much with our hands. We touch, feel, handle, build and destroy, hurt and caress, kill and heal, make music (noise) and command or pray for silence, our hands can be rough or smooth. PAPA IS THE BEST...

FOR THE DADDIES. He came into the studio after we finished a shoot, so everything still in place, tjaaahhh, who could resist putting them in front of the camera? Ever the joker, he had bought his daughter a dummy that said 'Papa is the best'... Just look at her expression, is she in doubt? She clearly senses something's not right. Puzzlement. Thank you for all the comments. It is not evident to produce a great 'STRAIGHT' portrait, without any manipulation, this was scanned from neg! GENETICS... MOTHER and SON.

#abfav_2_together_theme I got this lovely family with 3 children in the studio. Whilst the two youngest looked very much like their dad, her eldest son was just the spitting image of his mum. AAAhhh, the Art of genetics. I placed their hands like that in this portrait because often I find they play such a vital role and say so much. MY VALENTINE'S PRESENT...

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ My youngest son, he was born on the 14th of February. He hates to be photographed. Got him in for some proper portraits. After the session he relaxed, we laughed and joked, the conversation turned to romanticism and falling in love, he showed us his boxer shorts to 'prove' he was a TRUE Valentine. I caught the moment, knowing how shy he is. A HAPPY BIRTHDAY Son. Again,I will not see him either today... Difficult! Love is quite an abstract concept, much easier to experience than to explain. You can compare love to the truth, for you must love to find the truth, but most will find love on more instinct levels. About the photo, well you know by now that I like a bit different, ‘beyond the obvious’, so here’s another approach to the theme Valentine! I had one shot left on my my film, too many times this happened to me... Developed and printed in the wet darkroom, I hand-coloured the hearts in on this black and white photo. Nothing digital about this! Happy Valentine’s day. EYE TO EYE…

On the first day of the year, we decided to have a portrait session in the studio. It was some time ago since we took ‘proper' photo’s of each other. What better way to start the New Year? LOL Paul, my husband, yes still crazy after all these years, we see eye to eye on most topics. In photography we each have our own style and vision. We respect that, share a fine sense of humour which made this such a pleasurable experience. Transferred this into black and white, love grainy low res, used to be very much my ‘thang’, in the days of film! SHADES OF GREY… for MOVEMBER

#abfav_monochrome This portrait was quite a challenge, a black hat, black b/g, the way I like it, push the boundaries, a challenge! Getting all the tonal values correct in a black and white is not always easy (without losing detail) and it is of course open to massive subjectivity and artistic interpretation. The rule (often, once you know it… to be broken, look at all the good high key images around today!) is A TRUE BLACK, A TRUE WHITE …AND ALL THE GREYS IN BETWEEN, a reflection of life itself? After a cup of coffee, we were all set for the next session. He adjusted his French beret called 'un Alpin'... Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide. I now have taken on the challenge, one photo each day: a month of men with moustache and beard, LOL, HELP… Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

EYES… SOUL-MIRRORS…

#abfav_2_together_theme MAGDA INDIGO (*_*) A lighting exercise in the studio. This is a scan of a b/w Polaroid which gives you not just the instant image but also a 4x5 negative. This image is part of an ongoing photo book project on ‘soul mirrors.’ Like most people I don’t like to be photographed, why do you think I am 'behind' the camera? hihi. I feel that very few images 'capture' the real ‘ME’. That is why I so respect it when people say NO. That is why I understand their ‘fear’ and I’m able to put them at ease. I always prefer natural light, but studio light has its advantages, anytime, anywhere… This was taken late at night, I had already tried quite a few different set-ups, wanted something different, this IS the one. Camera used: Techn Cam 4x5 Lens used: Rodenstock 180 Film used: Polaroid 55 pro neg. 4x5 The frame is natural, from the torn-off Polaroid paper. TRAIN OPERATOR... THE STOKER'S HANDS...

In North-Yorkshire, towards the Heritage Coast, you have charming Pickering, an ancient market town and civil parish, on the border of the North York Moors National Park. It sits at the foot of the Moors, overlooking the Vale of Pickering to the south. According to legend the town was founded by a certain king Peredurus around 270BC; however the town as it exists today is of medieval origin[citation needed]
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the old station is kept in fourties style, is run by the North York Moors Historical Railway Trust but is mostly operated and staffed by volunteers!
Both on and off the trains!

HANDWRINGINLY HUMBLE...

It was the opening night of his exhibition, a vernissage, but also, the town was so happy to finally have this artist in their midst, they'd decided to honour him, and had come out in full force, Mayor and all. Whilst they were singing his praise and lauding all his achievments, he sat there, I watched his hands, he is such a humble man, I knew he was... yet was not enjoying this... There was by far not enough light for this image, but I pushed it, I wanted it, no risk= definitely no result! I like it, because of the memories, the emotion...it almost looks like a charcoal drawing. OF AN ARTIST'S HANDS...

Willem Vermandere is a famous and much celebrated Belgian Artist. My friend is a sculptor, singer-songwriter, musician, writer, poet and painter, but also a wonderful philosopher and raconteur. We always enjoy a get together when we visit the Continent, this time no different! Here, after a whole animated discussion about why we do what we do, how to do it well etc... Here, he had told us the fascinating story of this old ebony clarinet, still in the original, albeit battered instrument-case, he then for a moment disappeared into his own world of melodious sound, eyes closed... We got back to our earlier conversation, about PASSION!!! (I have come to the conclusion that the MADNESS that creatives have, well they love to call it 'passion'? LOL. He is another posessed artist...) You have to have PASSION for your medium! For a photographer we agreed that that should be all about the light!!! As you can see, his hands are his tools, during the week, he carves, cleaves, chisels, chops and files on his quarry treasures, the granite, marble... all very rough on his hands, then on the week-ends, his hands become the softer tools as he performs as a musician, stroking and playing the delicate instruments, strings and keys... Combining the two passions is a constant concern to him! Both disciplines so important to him in their own way! Both depending on his hands. The gorgeous afternoon-light fell onto his hands, that afternoon in his studio... Such moments are pure magic. magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2008/01/all-shades-of-grey.html THANX and have a great w=e, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PLAYING THE BASS-CLARINET...

Willem Vermandere is a famous Belgian Artist. My friend is a sculptor, singer-songwriter, musician, writer, poet and painter, but also a wonderful philosopher and raconteur. He gets so 'involved' in his musical world when he is playing, and I've become, over the years, at taking picures almost without people my subjects being aware. He never realised... We'd walked out of his studio where he was sculpting in granite, hence his clothes. For his hands, his two passions do not 'mix' very well, rough sculpting and his hands soft for the music... He picked up what I think was a more recent acquirement of which he was very proud, the bass clarinet. The sound of it is still beautifully vibrating in my bones, deep and rich, but played in a hauntingly nostalgic way with a tone heard in Arabic and Hebrew music. LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC ON THIS INSTRUMENT HERE, you will NOT regret it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5hRPYE3ABk&feature=related MORE HERE about photography: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/01/importance-of-hands-in-p... ENRAPTURED…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ WILLEM VERMANDERE and his new instrument... Willem Vermandere is a famous Belgian Artist. We always enjoy a get-together when we visit the Continent, this time no different! Well, he had just acquired a new instrument, an Autoharp (despite its name, the autoharp is not a harp at all, but a chorded zither), which he cradled with tremendous affection whilst his hands caressed the strings and he was clearly in his own musical world...forgetting for a brief moment that we were there? Such moments are pure magic. My friend is a singer, songwriter, musician, sculptor, writer, poet and painter, but also a wonderful philosopher and raconteur. In photography, emotion is the often discarded, yet so important ingredient! ALL ABOUT EMOTION… WILLEM

Much as I liked the colour portrait yesterday, I feel this one, in mono has even deeper emotion! Emotion is any relatively brief conscious experience characterised by intense mental activity and a high degree of pleasure or displeasure. Emotions are complex. According to some theories, they are a state of feeling that results in physical and psychological changes that influence our behaviour. The physiology of emotion is closely linked to arousal of the nervous system with various states and strengths of arousal relating, apparently, to particular emotions. Emotion is also linked to behavioural tendency. Extroverted people are more likely to be social and express their emotions, while introverted people are more likely to be more socially withdrawn and conceal their emotions. Emotion is often the driving force behind motivation, positive or negative. Hope you feel it too? WILLEM in NIRVANA…

Day 14 Nirvana is a place of perfect peace and happiness, like heaven. And that is where he goes as soon as he picks up one of his many instruments. Always beautiful moments. Yes with some people it is absolutely ZEN. And such moments are pure magic. TLC FOR MY TUBA...

Concerts in the Park. It is a well-known fact that England is a land of traditions and proudly so! Due to the faster pace and changes in the current times, many are finding it harder to keep going. Society is changing more rapidly than ever. So it was extremely pleasant, last summer, to discover that in the many parks, in and around the city where we live, every Sunday afternoon, brass bands were to give concerts! ...but it was rather melancholic to hear that oooh so specific brass sound and the old sweet tunes floating through the leaves as the rains started, people sought refuge inside the small caf, while quite a few listeners brought out their raincoats and umbrellas, and stoically stayed put, like the band, who kept on playing! This was the Tuba section, during a short break, new sheets of music, drying out the instruments, he had put it upside down. He put a protective hand on it, just like you do with a child, a caress for loved one, a cherished pet. TLC Tender Loving Care... The image fits in with another blog about the importance of hands in portrait photography. HERE: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/01/importance-of-hands-in-p... A LUTHIER’S HANDS at work…

#abfav_monochrome making a violin or a guitar, such delicate work with probably the smallest plane in the world? HANDS... THE BEST TOOLS IN THE WORLD... they are fascinating They can give and take... Thank you, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please RESPECT this:IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE DREAM DANCER…

#abfav_monochrome Christian Dedeene, he was for 5 years a solo and star dancer with one of the greatest choreographers of the century, Maurice Béjart. I was fortunate to have him in our studio a couple of times, and what an experience it was, each time. Thanx Christian, for being so patient and sharing my artistic vision. In collaboration with Paul Indigo This is the result of having a professional ballet dancers in the studio, up for a challenge and something different. How do you capture the graceful, often powerful movement and action in such a static medium? And challenging it was, as ballet dancers need to be able to fix on a point to execute the figures correctly and land on the same spot. This image is taken in a completely dark studio. Technically challenging though it is, the results always thrill me. We had tremendous fun and are happy with the results. This has been achieved by strobe flashing. NO DIGITAL MANIPULATION. ONE SINGLE EXPOSURE, ONE NEG. Modern photographic stroboscopy in its simplest form is a method whereby a subject in motion is lit by repeating flashes of light while the shutter of the camera remains open for a period of time long enough to capture the subject in multiple locations during the time of exposure... not as many now seem to think; just using FLASH! Wishing you a wonderful day and as always, thank you for visiting, Magda, (*_*) FOR ALL THE LOVELY DETAIL AND THE GREAT EXPERIENCE: view on Black For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) B&W MAGIC...

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ A LONDON STREET ARTIST. They were a couple, wearing the same colour-costumes, they had a different discipline but were both so very graceful, elegant and talented. It was pure magic to see them at work. I burned out the public in the bg, it looks like his crystal balls were 'giving' off the light... BUSY HANDS...

My AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ Ladies are sitting together outside their houses, chatting and with hands always busy, the crochet-work gets sold in the shops of this small artistic village of Kritza in Crete. I have a healthy ‘fascination’ with hands… Since they are so expressive, almost as much as a face (?), a means of body language and non-verbal communication, we ‘say’ so much with our hands. We touch, feel, handle, build and destroy, hurt and caress, kill and heal, make music (noise) and command or pray for silence, our hands can be rough or smooth. WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR...

#abfav_summer_theme Early Summer in Bridlington, on the North East Heritage Coast, while Paul was enjoying his fish and chips (a MUST when you go there), I was 'people scanning'. Now I had spotted this couple earlier, sitting in the sunshine on the wall that separates the sea from the harbour, chatting and eating something. Picking up my camera, they started to walk away, she still eating her cream bun, giving him her handbag to carry. I was *$?&^%, aah for 2 seconds more!!! I took the shot anyway. The words of this Beatles song swirled through my head: When I'm 64 When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now, Will you still be sending me a Valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine? If I'd been out 'till quarter to three, would you lock the door? Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I'm sixty-four? Etc… When I developed the film and saw this one, yes, another ‘difficult’ neg I think I came away with a better shot. Circumstances, he? And remember, a great photograph is mostly about emotion (in my book anyway). Thanks and have a happy day, Magda, (*_*) Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

SOMEWHERE IN ENGLAND...

Some fun! This gent was overlooking the incoming tide. Love everything about it, a bit of OLD-ENGLISH EXCENTRICITY!!! The white shorts, the long white socks with the bit of dirt and 'sagging', when I get that urge, ...I just could NOT resist it, LOL... magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2008/01/all-shades-of-grey.html THANX, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk Please RESPECT this:IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) VALSE LENTE... A STORY

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ Taken at a Dance Hall, where more mature people gather in the afternoon and come to dance... ...This lady, one of the first to arrive at the dance hall, was well liked and cherished. She was obviously just there to see and enjoy her friends dancing. I had already taken several shots, and sat down on the side to absorb the whole atmosphere; when out of the corner of my eye I saw movement. The one foot was moving with the tune, the stick tapping the beat, the rest of her body still, her face ecstatic. I wondered where she was in her memories, for a moment I saw the young girl emerging, a youthfulness in her shining eyes. The music stopped, applause, her shoulders sagged a bit; she leant a bit more heavily on her stick. Valse Lente... The slow waltz... In photography, emotion is the often discarded yet so important ingredient! 400 iso b/w film Ilford HP5 (grainy), wet darkroom developed and printed, scanned. DADDYYYYYYYYYY????

A studio impromptu! To understand this image you really have to know that, this was a portrait session of a very pregnant lady, her husband standing behind her and embracing her belly. The toddler was demanding daddy's attention, I love the contrast, the tiny hand, the strong hands, the interlaced fingers. The 'link'... In photography, emotion is the often discarded yet so important ingredient! Talk about emotion in a photo, do you agree? I love the beautiful tools that are our hands, FOR MORE ON THIS and other anecdotes.. magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2008/01/all-shades-of-grey.html magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/01/importance-of-hands-in-p...
