LES TROIS PLUMES…

a good alternative for flowers, if you want colour, shapes and textures, is feathers. I had a lot of fun with these, always trying to ‘perfect’ and bring the best. Here straight feathers in graduating Autumnal colours. I wish you all a very good day and thanks for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. SOFT TOUCH...

more feathers, this time straight ones, just as soft and they lovingly, tentatively touching. A favourite colour combination! More fun from Studio Indigo. I wish you all a very good day and thanks for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. PIUME BIANCHE…

#abfav_white LOL, I often have a lot of fun in the studio and usually it starts with one idea (the serious one?), which brings on another and another and before you know it… the hours have flown and I am left satisfied with many new images! This was one of those days. I love plumes, the are so textile, light and euhh ‘different’ I wish you all a very good day and thanks for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. PICK ME?????

Often when one is a creative, it is NOT just in one field... Cooking is another passion of mine, I love looking what I have at hand and create a meal. Yes, Paul has had many ONE-OFFS! Lol. A number of years ago, I broadened my horizon and explored the Japanese cuisine, what a delight! Of course I also love a nice 'table', so, the Japanese are extremely precise about their presentation, the eye counts too! So, over the years I have gathered many lovely items to eat in 'STYLE'... Here Japanese toothpicks in their bamboo-holders. WORTH LARGE and View On Black Have a creative day and thanks for your visit, M, (*_*) Please do not COPY or use any of my images on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com

TIPSY…

#abfav_yellow Reflections in a glass of dry white wine, cool and Summery, caught in some lovely light. FANCY SOME RED?

#abfav_red I adore silk, the shiny (but no too bling) finer ornaments. Here I am holding: COILED SILK… I can so enjoy them, like this one. Hope you do too? THANKS for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated, M, (*_*) IT IS FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PATH to LOVE…

#abfav_red …can take a lot of ‘meandering’… it is often a happy way, with surprises, fun and joy. Presents for your love, mostly wrapped with shiny red ribbon. Red, the colour of passion, red the colour most commonly associated with love, followed at a great distance by pink. It the symbolic colour of the heart and the red rose, is closely associated with romantic love or courtly love and Saint Valentine's Day. Red is the colour of celebration and ceremony. A red carpet is often used to welcome distinguished guests. Red, by a large margin, is the colour most commonly associated with seduction, sexuality, eroticism and immorality, possibly because of its close connection with passion and with danger. Another, more ‘graphic’ minimalism image, which I adore! Hope you have a day full of love and thanx for visiting and commenting, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) ONE HEART TO GIVE…

#abfav_red yep, we only have one heart, and many different kinds of love... nevertheless, think twice before you give your heart/ love because it is too important both to you and the recipient! Thank you for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) FEATHERLIGHT…

I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. Of plumes held captive by bright red ribbon. For Valentine, everything is wrapped with shiny red ribbon. Red, the colour of passion, red the colour most commonly associated with love, followed at a great distance by pink. It the symbolic colour of the heart and the red rose, is closely associated with romantic love or courtly love and Saint Valentine's Day. Lead and enjoy a good life, do and say things that enrich... and do not forget to tell the people close to you, how much you love them! THE ORIENTAL CALLIGRAPHY BOX...

My aim is to photograph everything as good as it gets! Straight, clear, crisp, well, as I was taught: proper photography... sometimes bending the rules, as it should be, lol. Often when one is a creative, it is NOT just in one field... I've noticed over the years. I've tried my hand at this however more in a painterly way, and also to write Japanese 'style' menus, for the fun of guests... Japanese/Chinese Calligraphy Box, Four Treasures of the Study, Four Jewels of the Study or Four Friends of the Study is an expression used to denote the brush ink-stone, seal and red seal paste used in Chinese and other East Asian calligraphic traditions. RAINBOW EYE-TEASER...

As I was driving past an industrial estate in Holland. I saw this structure, a rainbow-coloured 30m high pole advertising the colour photo lab... Rainbows are all around us, for those who look. I could not resist a close-up of this, I just like puzzling graphics, this one has an added bonus, when you rotate it, the metal scales go from concave to convex.SO MUCH MORE FUN AND BETTER LARGE and View On Black THANKS, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE, visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) CHIPS, CHIPS...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below The (proper)shoot was over, the models gone, packing the studio-lights... The people from the casino had been extremely helpful, to make things look really real, they brought out this huge tray of chips. I'd often seen them in films, but NEVER the REAL thing! Here was a fortune, colourful, different, how could I resist photographing that? I chose to use very little depth of field even though I only had the ambient, intimate Casino-light, there was 400 ISO, Superia in my Nikon F4. CHIPS CHIPS, PAOLO CONTE, WORTH A LISTENI love the beautiful tools that are our hands, FOR MORE ON THIS and other anecdotes..magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/01/importance-of-hands-in-p... RIEN NE VA PLUS…

#abfav_multicolour At the CASINO, I was like a kid in a toy-shop for the first time. I couldn't believe my eyes, they had many games I'd never seen, I thought it was just about the classic stuff, like black jack, baccarat, roulette. Aaachhh, I've lead such a sheltered life!!! HA. I asked what this was for, the glass covering the dice was hermetically closed, no more bets, the copper cloche was put over it, electronically the dice were 'shaken' (not stirred!), the glass dome uncovered and people could see how their luck had fallen... I could not resist taking a photo of it. We were in the Casino, during closing time, the day, to take photos for their publicity. These that you see, just 'my bit on the side', free stuff... FOR SALE... BRIGHT SUMMER SKIRTS...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! These are the colours of the past season! Light and colour can influence how people perceive the area around them. Different light sources affect how the colours of walls and other objects are seen. Specific hues of colours seen under natural sunlight may vary when seen under the light from an incandescent (tungsten) light-bulb: lighter colours may appear to be more orange or "brownish" and darker colours may appear even darker. Light and the colour of an object can affect how one perceives its positioning. If light or shadow, or the colour of the object, masks an object's true contour (outline of a figure) it can appear to be shaped differently than it really is. Objects under a uniform light-source will promote better impression of three-dimensional shape. The colour of an object may affect whether or not it seems to be in motion. In particular, the trajectories of objects under a light source whose intensity varies with space are more difficult to determine than identical objects under a uniform light source. Carl Jung is most prominently associated with the pioneering stages of colour psychology. Jung was most interested in colours’ properties and meanings, as well as in Art’s potential as a tool for psychotherapy. Colour has long been used to create feelings of cosiness or spaciousness. However, how people are affected by different colour-stimuli varies from person to person. There is evidence that colour preference may depend on ambient temperature. People who are cold prefer warm colors like red and yellow while people who are hot prefer cool colours like blue and green. A few studies have shown that cultural background has a strong influence on colour preference. These studies have shown that people from the same region regardless of race will have the same colour preferences. I'm ALWAYS fascinated by COLOUR! Have a lovely day and thanx for your visit, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) I believe if you are a creative it is NEVER just in one field... I photographed one of my paintings, 60x50, and inserted it; I was so surprised when it actually matched the colours on my palette! Some of the brushes I used belonged to my grandfather and father. The painting is actually done completely with palet-knife, my fave tool. I painted with oils, watercolours but I made hundreds of soft pastels. I don't paint anymore now; I might again, one day, who knows? I believe you have to be in a specific ‘state of mind’, plus, I must admit that over the years Photography has satisfied my creative needs more and more. I’ll upload the above painting sometime for those who’d like to see it. I painted it from memory, a tour of Bretagne. I had been most impressed with the rough rocky coasts, the often emerald waters, the ‘wildness’ of the place. The photo was taken solely with ambient light. Wishing you all a colourful day, and thanx as always for your time, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) IT'S GONNA BE A BRIGHT WINTER...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! These are the colours for the coming season! I COULD BAKE YOU A SWEET RAINBOW in THESE???

SOME FRIDAY FUN. LOL! Trendy cupcake moulds in paper! Yes they are so very much the 'flavour' of the moment! A cupcake (also British English: fairy cake; Australian English: patty cake or cup cake) is a small cake designed to serve one person, frequently baked in a small, thin paper or aluminium cup. WHY KNOT??? TO ART or NOT TO ART????

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ I am spending a lot of time in the studio at the moment. A photographer friend asked an interesting question, why do 'YOU' take photographs? One answer for me is I love the challenge, and it still is! Now it is with lighting, reflective objects and making it all work together the way I want it, and still be surprised, ALWAYS thrilled. A Nylon skipping rope, a prop for a Summer poster, I knotted it like when I was a little girl, then I saw THE image... I photographed it in my own style... Called this first one WHY KNOT??? Uploaded it and it did very well. Then I got an interesting comment that I want to share with you, as it provoked a reaction from me: "In a way this photo is everything that is WRONG with upload-sites. And, everything that's RIGHT. Some people will say what does a mess of different coloured string all placed together and tied into a knot mean? How is that art? Others will say ah, what an excellent metaphor/s that applies to so many themes. What a simple minimalist piece of art. Why didn't I think of that? It's been right in front of me a million times. Most people will lie somewhere in the middle, struggling with the image for a second and quickly flipping to the next piece. Isn't art strange? LOL Thanks for sharing,..." I replied by email: ... You mention the big A... art? I consider myself a creative photographer, not an art photographer. It is such a massive discussion what art is... been there, worn that T-shirt, lol. Until the day there is a definite and 'plausible' definition of ART, I'll change my mind, in the mean-time, I'll stick to creative... Photography is a craft that is acquired over many years! When not 'dictated' by a client, I take images that come out of my brain, the birth of the idea, the development of it, my vision and the creation, my enjoyment and the challenge, the hype and the anticipation, the struggle and disappointment of the failures, the gathering of your courage to try again... the stamina, the madness some love to call passion? The playing with light, to me, the ultimate high, I don't need anything else. Once the image is there, I'm content, and if it 'inspires' others, releases an emotion, that's wonderful! And I've seen how my photos have 'inspired' many! I'm not stupid to think that everybody is going to like, let alone understand my images, but I can easily live with that, because I do not have that expectation! I, in the first place, have to be happy with it, the quality, the composition, EVERYTHING, it has to be immaculate, I have to stand by it 100% or the outside world will NEVER see it! That goes for my pro AND my free work (what you see here). I wouldn't have it any other way. I hope that you enjoyed my 'rave'? Take care, all the best and above all... enjoy your photography. If the day comes I don't enjoy it anymore... OF WATER AND FLAME…

#ABFAV_WATER_THEME A water candle holder, safe and magic, it reflects and refracts the light beautifully and in unexpected ways. Can also be used as a vase... YOUR CHOICE...

Glass is one of the most difficult substances to photograph, always and even more under 'studio' conditions; my challenge is to use the reflections in a positive manner so that they add to the image. I love using different oils and vinegars in the kitchen, so over the years these glass beauties have now become part of a collection, the first was the 'ball' cruet one in front, oil in the centre, vinegar in the 'outside'! Thanx for your visit, Magda, (*_*)

OIL AND VINEGAR...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Another lighting exercise. From the series Circles and lights. I saw how many round objects there are in our home, I've had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more. I love the subtle tones, all the varied tonalities, that give the texture, depth and form, the delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasized without the colour. Don't you agree? Another of my 'creative' images, while I had everything out... TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS…

For god-sake, we ALL get weary? Oh she may be weary Them young girls they do get wearied Wearing that same old shaggy dress, yeah yeah But when she gets weary Try a little tenderness, yeah yeah From the song written by Jimmy Campbell, Reg Connelly and Harry M. Woods in 1932 and performed by many of the greats! Feathers symbolise for me, tenderness, softness and warmth, all the things we need in real life and especially now, when the world, once again, feels like a harsh place. We will have to be strong, however I am convinced that the good will survive… with a lot of tenderness and care for our fellow man. WHERE ANGELS REST…

In our home, we have a cupboard under the eaves. Nothing extraordinary there? Except, it is opened only once a year, it is where our Christmas decorations are stored. I still feel the same excitement I felt when I was a little girl, and I'd climb the stairs, behind my dad, up to the (huge) attic, yes... open 'the cupboard' holding all the cardboard boxes with the shiny glass baubles, the sparkling garlands.. They weren't heavy, so I was allowed to help, and ooooh, when I opened the first box, I smelled the pine and wax from years past... Most of the treasures you remember and look forward to seeing again, many are a renewed surprise.Once again, with a sigh, because another year had flown bye so fast, the ‘ special cupboard’ was opened and all the memories of years gone by were released. Joining the latest ones. Because, each year something new is bought! The days are so short now, it is dark by 15.30, but that means that the sparkling new lights look even better. A box was standing a little precariously, probably the last one in, with those things always left behind when all else is safely put away? But no, It fell open, there were my white feathers, the wings and the angels! Aha, so this is where angels rest? LOL I stopped my activities, to photograph: THE priority!!! THE QUILL…

“A goose quill is more dangerous than a lion's claw” Did the angel loose a feather? LOL It used to be a tradition to write Christmas cards to family and friends. A way of touching base again. A CHRISTMAS STORY...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is many different things, as you can see.. 't was after midnight, we'd again worked late, the lights in our Christmas tree were on, some candles spread their wonderful light and made everything flickering sparkly. We relaxed in front of the fire, to unwind and enjoy, before going to bed. The previous night a dusting of snow had whitened our world, the day was bitterly cold with a biting frost. I heard a tinkling bell in the silence of the night, a slight knock on the door... I opened and there was Father Christmas, he was on one of his pre-Christmas rounds, to see how 'good' everybody was, what they deserved, or not... (he doesn't always get it right, but maybe that's his helpers?) and he had been caught in a blizzard! Saw our lovely inviting home... I quickly invited him in, he took of his hat, the gentleman that he is... I saw how wet and icy it was and offered to hang it up to dry. I fixed him a hot drink, we sat and chatted, he asked how my photography was going, (he really does know EVERYTHING!), was I happy with my new camera? And why had I not waited... he would have put one under the tree for me... I blushed and confessed that I'm not the most 'patient' of people. He smiled and stroked his beard. Well, warmed up and dry, he was ready to go, lots to do, deadlines to meet, gosh it all sounded so familiar... A hug, I waved him out, another bell-jingling, ho-ho-ho...then he was gone... that's when I woke up! may the light shine bright for you today and thank you for visiting, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE WINGS of ANGELS...ANOTHER CHRISTMAS STORY...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things, as you can see... A STORY IN THREE IMAGES, this is the first in the series In our home, we have a cupboard. Nothing extraordinary there? Except, it is opened only once a year, it is where our Christmas decorations are kept. I still feel the same excitement I felt when I was a little girl, and I'd climb the stairs, behind my dad, up to the (huge) attic, yes... open 'the cupboard' holding all the cardboard boxes with the shiny glass baubles, the sparkling garlands.. It wasn't heavy, so I was allowed to help, and ooooh, when I opened the first box, I smelled the pine and wax from years past... Most of the treasures you remember and look forward to seeing again, many are a renewed surprise. Last Sunday, it was the moment, the tree was put up, the lights were working, the wreath hanging on the door, it was all going smoothly... Wind and sleety rain battering against the windows, nice and snug indoors, I was slowing down, growing a little tired... when I heard the most heavenly music, voices singing of a Silent Night, I opened the door, three little angels stood there, bedragled and cold. I rushed them quickly inside, rinsed off their wings and hung them up to dry. Made the angels a nice warm drink, in no time, they'd recovered and sang their songs of bells that jingle, chestnut roasting, some drummer-boy,things in a pear tree? They helped me decorating in a festive and jolly mood, lighting the candles, arranging the Holly. One of them felt the feathers, they were dry, they fluffed them up a little, stroked some smooth, time to go... Two were quick to don their wings, I noticed that one was a bit slower, turned to me and whispered, I've not been an angel for very long, this is my first Christmas, bbbrrrr... The music echoed in the distance for a brief moment, aaaahhh, what a lovely dream, now I still had to finish what I had started! I carried on with renewed zest...when I suddenly saw, where the wings had been drying... three lost feathers... I wish you a day full of peace and goodness, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) VISUAL SILENCE...

I had been 'playing' with this concept for a while in my head. I called it (instead of the Silence of the Lambs) the Silence of the Bird. When I had the final result, it came to me immediately: VISUAL SILENCE. I don't often 'dive' into the digital 'magical' darkroom that photoshop can be, but for certain projects it is a great creative tool! Here, in the case of visual silence, what is being absorbed is not sound but gaze. If silence is the absence of noise, then this visual silence is defined as the gradual absence, the vanishing, of what surrounds it, where we burrow from the visible surface to the invisible core. Our focus on the image involves a diminution of the optic field: in this sense, visual silence is like a poem, its power arising from its sheer vulnerability. The image cannot be penetrated even by the most powerful of gazes because it is already open, in full view... and yet the transparency of the image, one that does not attempt to hide anything, is still capable of mystery. Visual silence arrests us because it is the interface between two realms of partial knowledge: between he who does not know he is being watched and those who do not know what they are watching. Some images leave us speechless, we watch them in silent awe. Ultimately the camera is merely an extension of the human eye, it only sees and cannot wholly know what it is seeing. LA PLUME DE MA TANTE...

Short for "la plume de ma tante est sur la table" (French for "My aunt's pen is on the table"), an expression used to mean stilted, textbook-derived speaking of a foreign language. The expression comes from the really odd sentences used in some textbooks to demonstrate grammar (rather than the sort of thing you are actually likely to say in the spoken daily language). There was also a song out of a famous revue and play: La plume de ma tante est sur le bureau de mon oncle... This is a fun anagram of that sentence: Rude Uncle Leo stole Aunt Mabel's pen; true Madame. (By Tony Crafter using Anagram Genius) (2003) Another image ALL ABOUT LIGHT and colour and texture, I'm trying for as much depth/relief as possible in photography. CHRISTMAS SPARKLE…

I mentioned I was a 'classicist' for Christmas. I prefer the colours green, red, white... with some gold or silver. I looked up why Red? An early use of red at Christmas were the apples on the paradise tree. They represented the fall of Adam in the plays. Red is also the colour of Holly and many other berries, which is said to represent the blood of Jesus when he died on the cross. Red is also the colour of Bishops robes. These would have been worn by St. Nicholas and then also became Santa's uniform? AAAHHH well, there you go. I just find it festive! Hope you this warms up your day. LOVE... THE MOST WONDERFUL GIFT

#abfav_red "To love someone is to understand each other, to laugh together, to smile with your heart and to trust one another, to respect each other, enjoy the similarities and the differences." IS IT A WRAP?

This red and white ribbon were swirling into my composition... with flair... Another 'light-play' in the studio. Often it is good to 'position' something and NOT fiddle with it too much? I saw this first, I thought it had individuality... and I gave it the freedom... in other words, left it alone, just photographed it... thanx for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk Please RESPECT this:IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PATH to LOVE…

…can take a lot of ‘meandering’… it is a happy way, with surprises, fun and joy. I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. LOVE for CHRISTMAS…

from when I was a little girl, I have always loved red ribbon. Often it is easier to pin down why you do not like something. I was wondering why this photo was so appealing to me. Started to analyse… so, the red ribbon, and then, the little bauble separated itself from the rest as all fell on the black velvet, I SAW it! THE photo!!! LOVE, this month people will gather and give. I have a feeling that December can be an ‘emotional’ month, where we ponder over the past year… So now I know why I like it. Happiness all around! MORE LOVE for CHRISTMAS…

This is a bunch to hang up, baubles, hearts and stars in glass, I immediately saw several compositions (in the shop already), had great fun in the studio! Now, as I told you, from when I was a little girl, I have always loved red ribbon. Often it is easier to pin down why you do not like something. Again, I was wondering why this photo was so appealing to me. Started to analyse… so, the red ribbon, and then, LOVE… this month people will gather and give. I have a feeling that December can be an ‘emotional’ month, where we ponder over the past year… So now I know why I like it. Happiness all around! World AIDS Day TODAY!

Was in Sweden, had rented a Stuga (wooden hut, well, small house), it was late October, during the days the weather was fine but the nights extremely cold. A roaring fire in the woodburner warmed up the place nicely, but it lacked a bit more 'coziness', so, with empty toilet rolls (a few cut in half), some alu-foil, red ribbon and some tealights, I made this groups of candles. According to UN-AIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35. Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world. Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away! This image was donated to an Aids charity, because of all the symbolism it contains, within the candles, some burning brighter than the others, some dying down... They used it as a poster! FIBER SALVO

Let the festive season begin... For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Fiber optic lighting systems transmit beams of light from a single, centralized halogen or metal halide lamp through glass or plastic fibers. The densely packed bundles of fibers are twisted and drawn through an outer jacket to dramatically increase the amount of light that reaches the outlets. This is a close-up detail... MACRO, comp in camera!!! They still fascinate me but I am less fond of those that change colours, I prefer mono, so I have these white and the one blue… so far… Thanx you very much for your time, visit, comments and awards..., M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) FIBER OPTICS... LIKE FIREWORKS

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... FROM THE SERIES CIRCLES AND LIGHTS. I am always on the look-out for visually interesting props, this is obviously a set of fiber optic lights, consists of 6 balls which I arranged in different ways to get a pleasing composition. The light-guiding principle behind optical fibers was first demonstrated in Victorian times when the total internal reflection principle was used to illuminate streams of water in elaborate public fountains, but modern optical fibers were only developed in the beginning of the 1950's. Now that we are back on Winter time, it is dark very early, the weather's gone bad, I've had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more. I am enjoying the burst of creativity, I wish you all a day full of light and THANX for your visit and comments, so appreciated, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE CRYSTAL BALL

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... What will it bring this year? OF CIRCLES, BALLS AND LIGHT TOO...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... What we have here are three different sources of light, not easy to 'balance' out correctly: 1: ELECTRIC light 2: OIL lamp 3: WAX, candlelight No other light was added, except my beaming smile, because I was enjoying myself so much for being creative after quite some time... I was full of ideas. Hope you're enjoying this series? A MAGIC BALL

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... A special glass bauble, diameter about 15cm, heavy, real glass and metal, given to me by a German client who bought it from an artist who sadly did not sign it, so, I do not know the name... It is beautiful, have had it for years, it moved around with me to different countries, yep, well travelled! And you see a whole magic world in it! Every year I buy at least 1 new Christmas decoration, something different, preferably glass. Got them from all over the world now. I love glass but it is a b***h to light properly!!! Thank you, as always for your kindness and comments, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ The candleholder was made by an interesting metal-Artist, I love the curvy elegant lines, just HAD to photograph it in the studio in a dramatic way. THE LIGHT IN THE DARK SEASON...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Today a water candle holder, safe and magic, it reflects and refracts the light beautifully and in unexpected ways. Can also be used as a vase... Glass is one of the most difficult substances to photograph; my challenge is to use the reflections in a positive manner so that they add to the image. Yes, it is that time of year again here in the Northern hemisphere… Start of December, in the UK we are on winter time, so it is darker an hour sooner than in most parts of Europe! This long period stretches in front of us, I know it influences and affects many people’s lives, they have the blues, they become morose, altogether down and even angry. Not enjoying life. And of course, it seems trendy to be ‘cynical’ about Christmas, New Year, the ‘commercialisation’ of the festivities, the music, the presents, the sending of cards, family gatherings and parties, hats and party-poppers, the cold, dank- and darkness. I’m different; I love the cold, especially snow, blue skies and crackling fresh air… that is if and when we get it, which is no guarantee nowadays, even in the North of England. Snow makes everything so beautiful and silent; you see small details, on familiar buildings, you never knew were there. I love the long evenings, I bring out the candles, they give off such a romantic light, I love the flickering flames, the shadow play on the walls, the smell when you blow them out before bedtime. When I’m out, the festive lights are on, since last week, they twinkle in the wind, sparkle in the rain. Shop windows are dressed festively, glittering and enticing. It is the season of silver and gold, red and green. Everywhere you walk or drive, decorated homes, I agree some over the top, it again makes me smile… each to their own, it is much more pleasurable than driving through dark streets. For many animals, winter is about hibernation, for me it is about reflection, making up the emotional balance, joy for a good year, hope for a better year? Thinking of people, making contact, touching once more… most of all the lonely ones (some with families!). I embrace it, accept it, you see, I believe the more you rebel against something, the worst you make it for yourself! It is not going to go away! Just imagine that whole ‘LIGHT’ period away from the dark months, how would we feel then? Many more people depressed and even more on Anti-Depressants? The Christmas market is back in town, we are going for a visit next Sunday. A lot of happy smiles there, blowing on a steaming hot German potato pancake, eating bratwurst fresh from above the glowing coals, drinking a cool beer or hot Gluhwein, children looking wide-eyed at all the wooden toys, spinning toys, glass baubles, candy and sweets. For many years now, Paul and I celebrated by ourselves, dressed up to the nines, having a real party, just the two of us. On Christmas day, we saw and heard families arrive in our street… not for us, that is when you miss your loved-ones even more. And when all is over and the baubles and bling packed away till next year, I’ll have the smile of the memories… and in the meantime, gradually, it will get lighter and brighter again, the soil will break up with the new life and colour of the crocus, followed by the daffodils and tulips… the hope of Spring, then the warmth of Summer, the nostalgia of Autumn, to come full circle to the darkness of Winter. And so our life goes by… I dread to think the dark season without the festive season, even with all its ‘trappings’. Have a great one, be safe and enjoy! And thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A water candle holder, safe and magic, it reflects and refracts the light beautifully and in unexpected ways. Can also be used as a vase... I saw how many round objects there are in our home, so, now that we are back on Winter time, it is dark very early, the weather's gone bad, I've had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more. SPARKLING SPIRAL...

From the series Circles and lights. we have lots of glass in our house, I enjoy the sparkle and variety. A SPARKLING SPIRAL... in water, if you want to see where this detail comes from... some of you may recognize it? See previous... It was a thrilling shoot and I want to thank Paul for all the help and the shared enthusiasm. The fun continues! ART et LUMIERES…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_THINGS_THEME Fun in the studio with glass and lights. In our home I’m always creating new features with glass objects of unusual shapes, metal, stones, candles AND lights. This is a glass cube often used as a vase, or candleholder, or I put small lights in, surrounded by big see-through flakes of pearly/mauve shells. Here I put a smaller glass cube inside and wrapped lights around, photographed it with the ambient light, from the top. The name is nothing pretentious, it is just the name I remembered from my youth, of a shop that used to sell lights and arty(?) objects... No filters used. AGAIN CUBES and LIGHTS, IN COLOUR!

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Taken in the studio, black velvet background and no other light source but the ambient light, obviously on tripod and slow shutter speed. I added another smaller glass cube and tried different set-ups. I find that, once you have an original idea, this brings a whole lot of new ideas, no stopping me then... The green comes because this is cheap recycled glass, isn't it lovely? I'm enamoured with glass, light, reflections, for all the unexpected light refractions... THE DECORATED CUBE WITH LIGHTS... A CHRISTMAS THEME

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Yes, with white baubles and lights. Been doing it for years, each year a different colour theme, although for me the colours of Christmas are still red, green and white! It is very decorative and you can put it anywhere! I love creativity and versatility... Have a great one and thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) CUBE WITH LIGHTS... A CHRISTMAS THEME

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Yes, I once was a 'beginner' in the studio too........ From the series Cubes and lights. No baubles here, just lights. Taken in the studio with only ambient light, no ‘star effect’filters used, comp in camera. I'm enamoured with glass, light, reflections, for all the unexpected light refractions... Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did making them. OF CUBES and LIGHTS...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... A cube imprisoned by lights, within a cube, on a light cube. Taken in the studio with only ambient light, no ‘star effect’filters used, comp in camera. I'm enamoured with glass, light, reflections, for all the unexpected light refractions... LIGHT IN A BAG...

WARNING, THESE ARE SPECIAL FIRE-RESISTANT BAGS, especially made for candles!!!! For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... I'm always on the look-out for special things, these came in small (this is a small one), medium and large. On a Summer's night, you could put them in the garden, make a path, be creative... My love for candles go back to my childhood, adore their very special light, the flickering. Well, I hope you like it too, have a wonderful day and thanx for viewing and commenting, always appreciated, Magda. SHIMMERING ANGELHAIR...

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... This was a difficult neg to print in the wet darkroom, but had plenty of room for manipulation and interpretation. 'Electric' candles with 'angelhair', the old-fashioned 'glass' stuff, that left your fingers full of tiny cuts! You have to suffer for your art??? LOL. I had bought it for old-time sake, the Christmas tree at my grand-parents was always shrouded in it, as a little girl the shimmering fascinated me... HMMMM, I guess it still does? I love the mystery created, the lightplay. Well, I hope you like it too, have a wonderful day and thanx for viewing and commenting, always appreciated, Magda. MY WINTERBABIES... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... At Christmas, here in the Northern Hemisphere, our gardens and most plants are hibernating and invisible. So, what do we do, we bring plants inside, the shops are brimming with Poinsettias, large and small, red or white, with Hyacynths, pink, blue and white. With Amaryllis and gorgeous bouquets with Winter-green and colour. My Winterbabies (as I call them) are to decorate the plant pots, they sit on them, hang on them, they look cheerful and a bit naughty, they make me smile. Brought them into the studio and 'played' with them and some ideas I had. Hope they make you smile too and remember, the world is a harsh place, so always keep the child in a small corner of your heart, never let go of that wonderful feeling... May your w-e be full of goodness, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE BELL AND BOW... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... THE BELL AND BOW, sounds like an old english pub! A small brass bell tied with a red bow. Bells are also very prominent in the festive season, for some reason. In Victorian times, it was very fashionable to go carol singing with small handbells to play the tune of the carol. Some times there would only be the bells and no singing!!! Handbell ringing is still popular today. A bell is a simple sound-making device. The bell is a percussion instrument and an idiophone. Its form is usually a hollow, cup-shaped object, which resonates upon being struck. The striking implement can be a tongue suspended within the bell, known as a clapper, a small, free sphere enclosed within the body of the bell or a separate mallet or hammer. Bells are usually made of cast metal, but small bells can also be made from ceramic or glass. Bells can be of all sizes: from tiny dress accessories to church bells weighing many tons. Historically, many bells were made to commemorate important events or people and have been associated with the concepts of peace and freedom. The study of bells is called campanology. I wish you a day full of peace and goodness, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) Lucia, A FEST of LIGHT....A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is many different things, as you can see... Lucia... 13 December This timing, and her name meaning light, is a factor in the particular devotion to St. Lucy in Scandinavian countries, where young girls dress as the saint in honor of the feast. The tradition origins from Sweden, and there after was copied by the other Scandinavian countries to bring in light in a time of darkness On the 13th of December, in Sweden, the festivities of Lucia Day begin early in the morning, with costumed children bringing their parents breakfast in bed. But the holiday continues, with Lucia processions in schools, hospitals, offices, factories, even on SAS flights. There are also Lucia competitions, with young women vying to represent their community. Perhaps the most spectacular of these takes place in Stockholm where the city's Lucia is crowned by the writer who three days earlier was awarded that year's Nobel Prize in Literature. Symbolizing the light of faith and the promise of the sun's return. Santa Lucia has become a Swedish icon of Winter, nearly as popular as Jultomte, the Swedish Santa Claus. may the light shine bright for you today and thank you for visiting, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) I C RED...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! This is an open letter to the admins of 500px. As I am NOT the only one who is unhappy, many are... and see RED, bitterly complaining about what is happening, the lack of information we are given, in brief: the way we are being treated. Personally, I had put a lot of work in my latest image, when, after uploading it, it DISAPPEARED for hours! On TOP of that, you keep promising that the dreaded DISLIKE button is GOING? People had their hopes up, that you this would be included in your latest 'MAINTENANCE' ? NOT!!! My photo was once again hit! 500px, surely you can keep us posted on your blog or forum or somewhere? Do the decent thing? This was another 'light-exercise' as glass is so notoriously difficult to light... a red vase, a challenge! OF MY ANGELS and MEMORIES... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see As you can see in my profile, I was born in Bruges, the captital of the province of West-Flanders,Belgium. All my family were born there, my parents moved away, but we visited weekly! Now, on the beautiful Market square, surrounded by beautiful old buildings and steeped in history, there was a shop, and they sold porcelain and china. My mother was always for quality, she was a regular client, now me, as a little girl, the place gave me the heebeedjeebees, all the breakables displayed naked around me, no skipping here... At Christmas, things magicaly changed, it became an Alladin's cave of attractive decorations for the festive season. I remember my eyes getting bigger than they usually already were. Mum was in a good mood and said: " be carefull!!! But you can chose two ornaments..." WOW, there were Kings and camels, sheep and shepherds, donkeys and mangers, flying angels and then... those two, the one holding a Lyre, the other a Horn, I loved the little faces, everything about them. I cherished and treasured them all my life. Grand-parents, parents... long gone now. My angels come out every year. It is strange, I moved a lot, things inevitably get 'lost', others broken, however some things seem to just always come along, they are one of them. They've gathered dust and crust of many years... I find it fitting... after all, we grew 'mature' together. Every year good to see them back... memories... Sprinkle a bit of festive angle-dust around you, you'll feel great! Don't ever let the child in you die! I wish you all the very best, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... Of HEARTS AND STARS. WOODEN TOY SOLDIER NUTCRACKER... A CHRISTMAS THEME.

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... The nutcrackers that we are used to seeing at Christmas time, we call the wooden toy soldier nutcrackers even though they come in many different characters besides the traditional soldier. These nutcrackers were seen in many homes in the Erzgebirge (the mountainous region in the eastern part of Germany which borders the Czech Republic) even before 1800. This was a mining region, and during the long Winter months, the men spent their time making wooden products for the family. It was tradition that a nutcracker in the window kept the family safe from evil spirits and danger. The first nutcrackers were made in the design of kings and soldiers. They were made by common folk, who liked to have the kings and soldiers working for them, cracking their nuts... In 1872 Wilhelm Füchtner, known as the “father of the nutcracker,” made the first commercial production of nutcrackers using the lathe to create many of the same design. The one I photographed here, about 30 cm tall, is actually NOT a nutckracker, though his mouth does open and close, it is a music box, from a collector... Wishing you a lovely day and thanx for all the comments, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) MORE JOY…

JOY, an emotion, as though you’d suddenly swallowed a bright piece of that late afternoon sun and it burned in your bosom, sending out a little shower of sparks into every particle —Katherine Mansfield Joy is not a constant, it is small fractions, short bursts that touch you in a good way. A great feeling to have. Lots of it in December, depends on yourself and how open you are to it? Spread a little bit of gold-dust around you and you will experience JOY! THE CAROL of THE BELLS…

https://youtu.be/k-W2Bkz_Rno Listen to this wonderful performance. You do not have to be a ‘believer’ to enjoy the spirit of the moment I think. We all need some love and tenderness at the moment, that is what I try to spread, beauty and joy. It always makes Paul laugh… when I see BELLS, I have to ring them and uhh, I often buy them. I suppose a lot stems from one's youth?Eventually they end up in the charity shop… for someone, as besotted with them as I am, to love, LOL I wish you a life full of peace and goodness, thank you, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) LIGHT-HEARTED...

THEME: Valentine. Love is quite an abstract concept, much easier to experience than to explain. You can compare love to the truth, for you must love to find the truth, but most will find love on more instinct levels. About the photo, well you know by now that I like a bit more ‘beyond the obvious’, so here’s another approach to Valentine's Day. A circle of heart-shaped lights! #abfav_films_songs https://youtu.be/PDFWdq2LkI0?list=RDoRpYwCHZ_mM As a result of the extravagant features of the dance, the word fandango is used as a synonym for 'a quarrel', 'a big fuss' or 'a brilliant exploit. ON COLOUR... SIMPLE EMERY BOARD NAIL FILES.

MY IMAGES, ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! BEACHED…

#abfav_white White Cockle are unique with lots of bumps and ridges lined up in rows or ribs. Cockle shells belong to the large famous family of shells know as the Cardiidae. Living in sandy sheltered beaches throughout the world, they have a distinctive rounded shell which when pieced together and viewed on end resemble a heart shape. A common species in waters throughout the Indo-Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The rounded shells can have a pronounced heart shape and are frequently ribbed. In both Europe and the Far East cockle shells are one of the most popular edible shell fish. I wish you all a very good day and thanks for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. People make a site what it is, Facebook, Flickr and 500px are indeed, as so many have said before me, like a big social circle, you make friends... I enjoy the fact that it is so very International. On top of everything else, here the common factor, our love for our photography. We share our images, each time giving a little bit of ourselves away. It is amazing what photos often tell about the person who took them! I thank you for sharing your images and your time. 2011... THE YEAR THIS DREAM CAME TRUE... Another Detail

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... Looking back on another year! The result of viewing the movie 'The Bucket list', starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman! What a movie and what a lesson of life and living! If you have not seen it, do, it's a MUST...I think we ALL have a Bucket list. When I was in my teens, I dreamt of one day... driving my own sports-car, over the years, the choices changed through different brands. I am neither a flashy nor a materialistic person, this was a just a dream. A car was always a vehicle to take me from A to B, all I asked was, turn the key, vroom vroom, it worked, lol. And I had no particular car in mind, wasn't even looking... till well...that day... Always working very hard (and always with higher priorities), suddenly, 2011 became the year that my dream came true, by chance. It is an iconic car, I had always loved the design, the classic Audi TT, silver, just as I like it... a dream to drive. This is a detail, the tail lights and spoiler, in tune with the whole design of the car. Keep dreaming, you never know, and that is probably the spice of life? The element of the unexpected? Lead and enjoy a good life, do and say things that enrich... and do not forget to tell the people close to you, how much you love them! With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) 2011... THE YEAR THIS DREAM CAME TRUE...

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... Looking back on another year! The numberplate is done in photoshop, just a bit of fun! The result of viewing the movie 'The Bucket list', starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman! AN ABSTRACT STATE of MIND...

As the ship moves slowly away from the land, I stand on deck. I love this 'special' moment, the melancholy of leaving the familiar and the excitement of the unexpected adventures. It is quite an industrial area where she docked. I scan and see these two cranes, intertwined. Again a more abstract image, a favourite... RUBBISH ART...

Where does Art begin? Where does Art end? Antwerp, Belgium. The tide was low on the Schelde, it showed all its 'hidden treasures', lol. I'm sure many photographed it... in a different way, our own vision, how fascinating photography is! Thanking everybody who took the time to view and comment on my images over the 8 months I've uploaded on 500px. Your warm respons touches me deeply. THE WALL OF SPONGES…

#abfav_yellow All proper, natural, organic SPONGES. Heraklion/Crete. A sponge is a sea animal with a soft round body made of natural sponge. Sponges do not have nervous, digestive or circulatory systems. That wall of course was the first I saw, so literally attractive and eye-catching. You didn’t seriously think I‘d walk out of there without a photograph of it did you? Ha ha… A beautiful shop, where they sold olive soaps, fragrant herbs, delicious honeys, olive oils and ... aahh, yes, sponges! Came home with lots of Mediterranean herbs and Saffron! I composed it so that there was nothing else, not easy, it was jam-packed! I was in my element. TOOLS OF THE TRADE... fishing net-repair kit.. SPAIN

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Fuengirola, Andalusia, Spain. Loving the sea, we ALWAYS look for the local 'working' harbour, interesting and thrilling, different... and similar. Often you will see the older fishermen, they cannot stay away and often it is sons and family who continue the traditions, the fishing, they tend and mend the nettings... Their eyes are keen on spotting a hole and their hands are nimble! Also, like everywhere, they are camera shy. I always try and engage in conversation with them, letting my camera in my bag or have it casually hanging on my hand... If you are down to earth and you have the good fortune that they 'like' you, you are IN!!! Can go back whenever. FOR THE WHOLE STORY, HERE: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2010/11/week-in-life-of-photogra... SUMMERTIME BLUES… THE NET

#abfav_summer_theme Passing an overcrowded shop with everything displayed outside, I saw this blue butterfly-net sticking out above the rest. I wanted to photograph it against the sky so had to go down, and bend and crouch and kneel to get the angle I wanted. People apparently were staring in disbelief, but when I’m composing an image, I forget about everything else! My challenge was to photograph blue on blue, I love to use the light to bring out the gossamer forms. It sings of sun and fun and wind and freedom and holiday, that small net high up catching the sun and the wind and the light and my eye… one of my personal favourites from the trip. Have a fun day and thanks, M, (*_*) Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com

REST RUSTS…

One of the favourite haunts is always the ‘industrial’, working quayside of any harbour. Not the 'clean' side either, but where they discard their old, broken, unwanted and rusted chains, cable, rope, netting, etc. Often there's nobody there, it's quiet, apart from the wind, some crying seagull. All you need is your camera and your eyes, some good light... A perfect example here, iron left to rest will rust very soon! Great fun. METAPHOR OF LIFE, of knots and ropes and hooks…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_THINGS_THEME I love ALL things nautical. So, back to the Continent, we reinforce the bonds with family ... with old friends and new friends... Yes, the feeling good! And this image of some mended nets on board of a boat in the harbour in Ostend/ Flanders is the perfect illustration of how I feel and what I mean. I wrote this blog about it:magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, hope you all have a great time! MORE SPANISH FISHING NETWORK...

Wherever we go in the world, it is especially the sea that attracts us most. We're always drawn to the harbour, not to admire the big luxury yachts, no, the fishing harbour, the working boats, the people, the different methods they use. The netting depends obviously on the type of catch they fish for. The majority of rigged nets are made to order, allowing fishermen to have exactly the right net for their needs. Here, in England and the North, the size of the mesh is often bigger than what we saw here in Spain. I fell in love with this scene when I saw it! The colours, aahh, everything! Of course I took a whole selection, this is only one of them… thanx for all your words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. THE WEAVE &SHUTTLE...

Tour of Europe 04 2016 Day 12 YOU MUST know how much I LOVE COLOURS??? LOL On the picturesque Fish-market of Brugge, we meet this weaver from Latvia again. Last Summer we bought a scarf, pure linen, for Paul here, now we meet him: the creative textile designer – weaver Janis Rozentals He began his career in the Old Town Riga and for several years wove on the wheeled loom and sold the scarves, all over the world. Made out of linen, they are beautiful. He loves Bruges. Of course, we go home, with… yes, you’ve guessed it, another scarf! If you are interested in seeing a dedicated artist at work, a fascinating movie here. See Janis on his loom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6w6bb9trMc I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

BRUGES LACE…

DAY 4 once more, memories, my family all being from Brugge, my paternal grand-mother and my sister, had lace making as their passionate hobby! Had the schooling. I remember winding the bobbins! I remember how important the patterns were, some kept secretly.Just another facet of Brugge’s fame is its beautiful lace. BRUGES made bobbin lace in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, and the name of Bruges is given to a lace of a scrolling character. From the end of Middle Ages Flanders maintained an active exchange between the Low Countries and the great centres of Italian art, so it was not unnatural that at the close of the sixteenth century lace was known and made in Flanders. Spinning flax threads and weaving fine textiles is closely associated with the early commercial history of Flanders, and when the progress of manufactures was endangered by the religious persecutions of the sixteenth century, the linen trade alone is said to have upheld itself, and to have saved the country from ruin. The fineness of the thread used especially is important. These date from about 1630 to 1660. MORE FRIENDS…

DAY 6 We drive to the southern part of Flanders, towards France, the ‘Bowl’ formed by the river Isere, scene to so much fighting during the first WW. We are meeting friends for the day. First exchange of presents, a book of my latest flowers, which delights them. They appreciate it so very much. After that, we set off to Ieper, for a meal and a visit to the exhibition Flanders’ Fields… I do not take many photo’s, it is either socialising or photographing, I find it difficult (impolite?) to mix them. So, Ieper, on the big market place, walking along, I pass a shop with this window display. They are still having the (unusual) heatwave, so this is a bit incongruous. But I like it. I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE AUTUMN FASHION COLOURS…

DAY 7 We walk the main street, where all the shops are. I see this display, telling us what the trendy colours are to be for Autumn and Winter, LOL. I was taught how to knit, but have no interest in it, I was merely attracted by this window display, the way it was presented with the needles and especially the colours! SPUN YARN...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! The end product was very pleasing, I love the natural colours. Sometimes the lady dyes the wool, also with natural dyes. BOTTLE BRUSHES…

DAY 5 It is a very hot day once more, we saunter through the narrow streets, the stones radiate the days of heat. We end up at the Simon Stevens place where we relax on a terrace, in the shade. I see a shop that I remember: Dille & Camille. They sell everything kitchen, natural and some ‘forgotten stuff’. A proper attraction for me, one of my favourite kind of shops. These bottle brushes make me smile, this is from my youth! Long handled brushes with rows of radial bristles, designed to fit into small mouthed bottles and access the larger interior. The things you encounter… Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

BASKETS ANYONE?

DAY 5 Still at ‘Dille & Camille’ Where they sell everything kitchen, natural and some ‘forgotten stuff’. A real attraction for me, one of my favourite kind of shops. EL TANGO de LA SOMBRA…

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme SHADOW TANGO We were staying over at a friend's house, I went outside for a breath of fresh air, before bed, I love the night-air, the silence, the reflecting lights... I turned around and saw this on the wall... a couple dancing, tango, the flicking the legs… Well my camera is never far away, my tripod was in the boot of the car, I do always find something to 'steady', plus, again, focus, take a DEEEEEP breath, hold it, click, breathe out... OF FLANDERS and ANTIQUITIES..

DAY 6 We decide to have a drive through that part of Flanders, South and close to the boded of North France. what a Plat pays, it does my eyes good to see it again. As it is a hot and thirsty weather, we end up in a tiny village, Houtem. Turns out my friend knows the owner of ’t Klein Plezier (The small Pleasure), the village pub. Quite a character, as is his establishment, full of antiquities. I spot this gorgeous pulley lamp. Before the simple flick of a switch, pulleys were used so the lamps could be lowered, lit, then raised up high again for general lighting. IN A DARK CORNER…

DAY 6 Of ’t Klein Plezier (The small Pleasure, LOL), in Houtem, Flanders, where antiques were lovingly collected over the years, I spot this lamp. I can’t help but wonder, where has it hung, what house has it lit up before and how did it end up here, in this remote corner of Belgium, almost France? VIEUX JEUX...

Tour of Europe 04 2016
Day 14 Old games. Still fun! An example of centrifugal force. In Bauernroulette, a spinning top is spun in the middle of a wooden circular playing surface that contains 6 wooden balls, here metal. The balls bounce off the top in random directions, and sometimes land within one of several hollow indentations within the surface. Typically, the most points are scored by landing balls within these outer chambers. ATTRIBUTES of A ROYAL GENTLEMAN...

I was invited for an exclusive interview by Debbie Slater of 500px. You can read it HERE:500px.com/blog/139/portrait-magda-indigo I do not often give them, but when I do, I go all out, LOL. Thank you Debbie and 500px. Thanking everybody who took the time to view and comment on my images over the 8 months I've uploaded on 500px. Your warm respons touches me deeply. A BIG THANK YOU ALL, M, (*_*) ABOUT THE PHOTO: I was doing a photoshoot of 2 days at Wimbledon, on the last evening the V.I.P.'s arrived for the prize ceremony... once that was over, well, as a photographer, you are ALWAYS on the 'look-out' for some extra and more creative images? One came in wearing this hat (the optimist?), the other had been holding onto his umbrella for him the entire day (the pessimist?). The light and setting were just too good to miss! TOP HAT...

#abfav_films_songs https://youtu.be/RZOJoV6H2UM Both film and song… Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. There are few photographers (well, I never met one) who really ‘enjoy’ taking wedding photos, probably because it is ALWAYS nerve-racking, now with digital cameras maybe a little less so, no fiddling and keeping track of your film, you can quickly check if you have got the right (?) moment with good expressions, but there are still moments during the ceremony that you only have literally ONE shot at… Yet wedding photography is a massive part of the industry, very important for the couple, and a great record for posterity, look how things have changed over the years, the clothes, make-up and hair, the flowers AND the style of photography! Also often it’s the only time families are together in a photograph, the older people can come out of the retirement home and are cherished and pampered for the day, the babies are cooed over, the young children run riot to the despair of their parents who had hoped for a day ‘off’. As the photographer, I cannot resist constantly looking for the ‘personal’ shots, the image that will make it ALL worth while for me as a creative… I’ve made it my ‘game’, to come away from each wedding with a different imaginative image, thing is, when the couple see it, it often becomes their favourite very quickly, tee hee. This is one of them, the ceremony was over, everybody had arrived for the reception before the meal. The men, feeling a bit awkward, couldn’t wait to get rid of the top hats, put them on a chair; the sun came in through the window, people started to come in, I had only a brief moment to take this, how could I resist, he? I wish you a day full of love and joy, and thanks for commenting, always very appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

LE CHAPEAU de l'ARTISTE...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! OR; THE INVISIBLE MAN? Willem Vermandere is a famous and much celebrated Belgian Artist. My friend is a sculptor, singer-songwriter, musician, writer, poet and painter, but also a wonderful philosopher and raconteur. We always enjoy a get together when we visit the Continent, this time no different! Here, after a whole animated discussion about why we do what we do, how to do it well etc... we walked towards the door, and I noticed one of his many hats on one of his wooden sculptures and in front of one of his huge paintings ... The light was perfect, I could again not resist... it all came back to our earlier conversation, about PASSION!!! You have to have PASSION for your medium! For a photographer we agreed that that should be all about the light!!! Someone commented on this: I think you see with your passion:) Such moments are pure magic. This is about the man himself: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2007/08/willem-vermandere-is-fam... with a follow-up magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/09/let-me-tell-you-story-on... MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! THE HATS. BELGIUM. Sheltering from the rain, entered this attractive place, a tall medieval hall, filled with modern and oriental design. This was on the mantelpiece of the fireplace so big that you could stand in it ! No I never asked the price, nor did I buy one of those hats, I know it would have looked good me wearing one of them in Paul’s photos… Very discretely I fished my P1 out of my pocket, a little smile appeared on the face of the attendant… aahh those tourists with there little cameras, they’d photograph anything… I love the warm light and the unusual presentation and shape of THE HATS. DAY 7 We arrive back on the Burg, we had seen the set-up earlier, but not paid it much attention. These things pop up, come and go. This time it is different, there is a buzz in the air, and lots of security… We sit on the terrace as more and more people gather, we ask the waiter and he mumbles something about a parade and royalty attending. So, unwittingly, we are about to witness something special! The empty chairs are beginning to fill with lots of dressed up, uniformed and decorated men, plus ladies in their fineries, le beau mode! I check the batteries of my camera, like a chef sharpens his knives before cooking, lol I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) COLOURED TEARS... for a HAPPY MONDAY

My AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ At some point, we had a studio that used to be a ballet school, a great space. At the back were two mighty heavy sliding doors, that opened onto a small back-garden, in the middle of the city, luxury. They were behind our backgrounds, so, often in Summer, it could get extremely hot with all the lights and creativity (LOL), we soon found out that letting in some fresh or cooler air via the doors was not an option, as it was probably the fave 'haunt' of all the cats (=flies) from the neighbourhood. One day it was just too much, so I rushed out and I bought one of those 'anti fly' curtains, we hung it up... AND this is what I saw... Coloured teardrops in the sunlight. Enjoy a colourful day and thanx for visiting, Magda (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) HANGING AROUND in THE HEAT, OUT OF A JOB...

Still not a flower in sight today, but I do need some colour! During a heatwave Summer on the Continent, on our way back from the swimming pool/beach, I passed a shop where those fashion accessories were 'just hanging around', I went into the shop and asked the lady if I could photograph them... sure I could... I felt her surprised frown and questioning eyes boring into my back... Photographers... a strange species... tee hee. All I had with me was a small point and shoot, a Nikon P1, it came out very well, Getty wanted it and it has been sold a number of times! So, it is NOT the camera.. but ALWAYS the photographer who 'makes' the image! FI-FI-FIRE…

#abfav_red SO LOVINGLY RESTORED and MAINTAINED... in the old fashioned way. Buckets with sand, in case of fire! Pickering, North-Yorkshire... Most of the passengers may not realise how reliant upon volunteers the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is. With the magnificent steam engines, beautiful rural stations and smartly uniformed staff, a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is like taking a step back in time. From the smoke and steam pouring from the engines to the cosy wood-panelled carriages and friendly conductor service, the railway is both lovingly preserved and charmingly authentic. It’s also the perfect starting point for a day out, whether you’re travelling between the rugged Yorkshire villages, hiking on the wind-swept moors or spending a day by the seaside in Whitby. You know by now that I am a 'purist? Prefer proper pure photography! For years people researched and battled to create the SHARPEST GLASS!!! And now, I see ALL TOO MANY 'BLUR' filters???????? LOL. THINGS are BRIGHTENING…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME As the days grow longer… I always see this as another sign of Spring, the bikers bring out their shiny machines, their leathers and are on the road again. THE OLD BICYCLE... LE GRAND BI...

That Summer, we were in Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the EU, sadly visiting a very sick friend in hospital. Afterwards, we decided to stay on for awhile and roamed the streets of the center, till we arrived on the spectacular market square, which was swarming with people, on this lovely summer's eve, speaking in languages from all over the globe... We looked for a place to eat, there were plenty, also all nationalities... we decided on an attractive looking terrace, that had the theme of old bicycles... and that was the best bit... The food was touristy and a great dissapointment, aahh well, it happens, shame because normally Belgium is known for its outstanding cuisine! We also had to wait a long time, not ideal when you are hungry and everybody around you is eating... It did give some time though to take some shots, this is one of them. THANX for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated, have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE, visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) GLITTERING...

GLITTERING… As I love lights and lighting (surprise? lol), we do have quite a collection in our home. We have this ground floor-light, a ball, over it an unusual Christmas decoration, designed especially for light. Abstract,so right for the season, all the festive attractions are out in the shops and streets, yes, already! Which is nice since, with the hour change, it is dark here at 17hrs! The sparkle is most welcome, a bit soon, but hey viva consumerism eh? LOL I wish you all the very best, may your wishes come true, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, invites, faves and Awards. Very much appreciated. DAY 2 of OUR ADVENTURES IN FRANCE. Côte-de-Grâce CANDLES...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! As soon as I enter, I am enveloped with the strangest feeling of sadness, I cannot explain it, not something I normally experience, hhmm. The small church is full of plaques for thanks everywhere, some very old some more recent, devote candles flicker, the smell of wax intoxicating, the silence is tangible, some people come in and light another candle, a prayer and gone again. France is still a very Catholic country… For the whole story: magdaindigo.blogspot.co.uk/2009/09/day-2-of-our-adventure... In Silence , the 'gold light'...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! THE STORY CONTINUES... THE WINDOWS... A gold leafed book was carried in and put on a lectern, the light from the windows falls on the few ‘decorations’ in this church, (as most of it was lost over all the years for many reasons), the small, delicate cross and the top edge of the missal... Why not listen to this and watch the whole set? www.youtube.com/watch?v=drU7ESj4HvY&feature=related AGAIN, 1 HOUR IN THE LIFE OF A PHOTOGRAPHER magdaindigo.blogspot.co.uk/2009/10/again-1-hour-in-life-o... MONT ST MICHEL, DETAILS.

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! We decide to go on, walking up the one street… (GRANDE RUE, lol), which is narrow and claustrophobic, full of souvenir-shops and ‘Crêperies’, we battle our way through till we get to the stairs, where we take a break. The climb to the abbey is hard -- by the time you have mounted the celebrated Escalier de Dentelle (Lace Staircase) to the gallery around the roof of the abbey church, you will have climbed no fewer than 900 steps -- but it's worth it… Just over halfway, we saw that you had to pay to visit the Abbey, church and the other interesting rooms… Paul goes and moves slowly along with the huge waiting queue. I decide, hiding in the shade, to concentrate on some interesting detail. I must say it is all very clean and looks very ‘cared-for’! MONT ST MICHEL- THE ROPE...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! I find it too hot on the huge terrace in front of the church, decide to go in, and enjoy the views later. I enter a haven of peace and silence, the light shining through the stain-glass windows give the old stones a special glow. The ceiling is high and made out of wood. Again, I see details that interest me, another boat hanging up, just like in the other chapel, only bigger. The coat of arms of the Mont St Michel is three fleurs-de-Lys and 10 Scallops (Coquilles St Jacques), it is incorporated in one of the walls, on the pillars I see interesting hooks, and then, of course a rope, leading high up into the spire… I find out later what it's for. ANGELUS...

Tour of Europe 04 2016
Day 14 Another little discovery. The Angelus is usually accompanied by the ringing of the Angelus bell, which is a call to prayer and to spread good-will to everyone, three times a day: 6:00 am, noon, and 6:00 pm The Angelus (L’Angelus) is an oil painting by French painter Jean-François Millet, completed in 1859. The painting depicts two peasants bowing in a field over a basket of potatoes to say a prayer, the Angelus, that together with the ringing of the bell from the church on the horizon marks the end of a day’s work. So I rather suspect that this is reflected in this wooden sculpture Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

OSCAR WILDE…

#abfav_holidays_theme Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900) was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist and poet. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. He is remembered for his epigrams, his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, his plays, as well as the circumstances of his imprisonment and early death. Known for his biting wit, flamboyant dress and glittering conversation, Wilde became one of the best-known personalities of his day. I love his quips, a few here: Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much. It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious. Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go. What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. True friends stab you in the front. There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. Genius is born—not paid. The old believe everything, the middle-aged suspect everything, the young know everything. At the turn of the 1890s, he refined his ideas about the supremacy of art in a series of dialogues and essays, and incorporated themes of decadence, duplicity, and beauty into his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890). Wilde produced four society comedies in the early 1890s, which made him one of the most successful playwrights of late Victorian London. At the height of his fame and success, The Importance of Being Earnest (1895) was being performed in London. English sculptor Danny Osborne was commissioned by the Guinness Ireland Group to create a statue commemorating Oscar Wilde, which was unveiled in 1997, by Wilde's grandson Merlin Holland. Since marble alone was deemed inadequate, the statue was formed from different coloured stones from three continents. The torso is of green nephrite jade from British Columbia, Canada, and pink thulite from Norway. The legs are of Norwegian Blue Pearl granite with the shoes being black Indian charnockite and finished with bronze shoelace tips.[5] The statue also wears a Trinity College tie made from glazed porcelain, and three rings – Wilde's wedding ring and two scarabs, one for good luck, the other for bad luck. The statue is mounted with Wilde reclining on a large quartz boulder obtained by Osborne himself from the Wicklow Mountains. When the statue was unveiled in 1997, it was the first statue commemorating Wilde since his death 97 years earlier. It received near unanimous praise for the materials used and for its location near his childhood home at 1, Merrion Square. In 2010, the porcelain head of Wilde had to be replaced because cracks were forming on it. The porcelain head was replaced by a new one made of white jadeite.
