ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE…

#abfav_2_together_theme Today for something completely different! PLEASE View On Black I also sometimes ‘play’ in Photoshop, lol When we're out together, Paul does most of the driving. Me, I look around and love the challenge of shooting images from the car... hit and miss, but I have a whole series of 'hits' now and even more 'misses'... hihi, and I had a lot of fun... so taken from the car at 70m/hr... here we were driving alongside those bikers, I was spotted and rewarded with a reciprocated smile, what a wonderful place our world can be! YES...All it sometimes takes is a smile! "TRON" ON THE ROAD...

"TRON" was one of the first movies to make extensive use of any form of computer animation, and is celebrated as a milestone in the industry; but only fifteen to twenty minutes of such animation were used. Technology is the driving force of the 21st century. The software to manipulate photos can be fun, it is helpful technology... we ALL have to try it, see what it can do... I make no qualms about the fact that I am a purist in photography, I am old school and it often breaks my heart to see a good image so massacred by layers and filters. And then call it Fine Art??? AAhh well, just to show that I also tried it out... This image was taken ona bridge over one of the busiest motorways in the UK. For a split second, it was 'empty' except for this bike speeding towards me... sheer luck! HAPPY HALLOWEEN...

't Was a cold and dank day, we walked along the river-bank, suddenly, a loud clap, the sky went dark, the world went blue, yes, Indigo blue... and there it was...at last the 'Spook of Bolton Abbey' gave the ghost... It was caught by the trees along the bank of the fast flowing river... HIHIHI, been saving this one for today, hope you enjoy it. LA CHAPELLERIE...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! “We're each of us our own chiaroscuro, our own bit of illusion trying to emerge into something solid, something real. We've got to forgive ourselves that. I must remember to forgive myself. Because there's an awful lot of grey to work with. No one can live in the light all the time.” ― Libba Bray, A Great and Terrible Beauty We pass a jazz café; see the church St Catherine in darkness and all the galleries around there, together with where we 'should have eaten', because that is where the French, the 'locals' are eating! All very romantic... turn another corner and discover this milliner's shop. Making hats is not only a craft it-is-also-a-passion, This is a proper chapellerie... one of the last in France. It looks so colourful and inviting... but I 'travel' light... no tripod, can't use flash, so, anchor myself against the wall, elbow on hip, focus, a deep breath, hold still, click, hold still, breathe out AND hope for the best... I do love a challenge, lol. THIS IS NOW THE COVER OF A FAMOUS BOOK, PLEASE DO NOT USE!!! ARTIGO... Mindigo

It was in the Musee des Beaux Arts in Brussels, a room was built by an artist, I believe it is Lucas Samaras’ Mirrored Room, the ceiling and floor plus two walls were mirrored, two walls had painted stripes and lightstrips. Not easy to photograph. ART +VERTIGO=ARTIGO, tee hee. In this one, Paul is pretending to fall, you really had the feeling of vertigo in this special piece of Art. MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! As soon as I enter, I am enveloped with the strangest feeling of sadness, I cannot explain it, not something I normally experience, hhmm. DAY 2 of OUR ADVENTURES IN FRANCE. Côte-de-Grâce WINDOW and BOAT...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Full of excitement, we continue our trek, the road winds on, along the Coast, soon, we see a sign towards another ‘must-see’ place that I remember from my youth… the Côte de Grâce… another ‘blink’ and you've missed it… We drive past big, beautiful old house set in their proper land-settings of orchards and gardens. This is part of La Côte Fleurie, on the hill some 1,5 km from the town centre of Honfleur, with spectacular views of the Seine estuary, the harbour and Le Havre. Now shaded by 300-year-old elms, La "Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce" is one of the region’s oldest sanctuary chapels and a gem built between 1600 and 1615 on the steep hilltop west of town. Here it gets a little confusing, some say Notre Dame de Grâce, was founded by Richard II and rebuilt between 1600 and 1615, others claim it to have been founded in 1034 by Robert the Magnificent of Normandy and rebuilt in 1606. One thing is certain, quickly, the site became a point of pilgrimage for sailors about to embark on transatlantic journeys. One such sailor-pilgrim, Samuel de Champlain, set sail from Honfleur and founded the colony of Quebec in 1608. And also somewhere in history it was used by royalty… Pilgrims still arrive for an annual Seaman's Festival and blessing of the sea each spring. The sky is almost white from the heat; the trees give a welcoming relative coolness. I seek refuge inside. As soon as I enter, I am enveloped with the strangest feeling of sadness, I cannot explain it, not something I normally experience, hhmm. The small church is full of plaques for thanks everywhere, some very old some more recent, devote candles flicker, the silence is tangible, some people come in and light another candle, a prayer and gone again. France is still a very Catholic country… The sun warmly brightens the stained-glass windows, statues and bas-reliefs tracing the usual biblical themes, but alongside them are images and models of elaborately rigged ships from centuries past. (There are also a few pairs of cast-off crutches, leaning in a dark corner, their stories are not offered.) Outside, very peculiar, a huge stand with the bells, chiming every 15 minutes… Their sonorous sound carried far and wide… resounding in your ears long after they stopped... MAGIC MUSHROOMS…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ These beautiful structures are metal frames covered in material. The Magical Lantern Festival is now in Yorkshire at Roundhay Park in Leeds following the hugely successful UK launch in London last year. The Magical Lantern Festival is a spectacular fusion of art, heritage and culture. Of course I was seduced by the flowers, lol, on ‘black-background’! A stunning outdoor festival of light and illumination. Visitors will follow a trail around Roundhay Park and explore amazing giant lanterns, which represent Xmas, traditional Chinese culture and the amazing 2000-year heritage of Lantern Festivals. From as early as the Western Han Dynasty, 206BC to AD25, the Lantern Festival had become a festival of great importance to Chinese communities. A fascinating journey through the park uncovering stunning lanterns in all shapes, colours and sizes from santa and reindeer to flowers and animals. Dragons the length of three buses and 40,000 light bulbs used to create more than 30 giant handmade lanterns. A visual feast of light and illumination, hidden amongst the grandeur of Europe’s largest city park, which lends itself perfectly to the layout of the lanterns with its combination of lakes, woodland, gardens and pathways. Visitors see some of the most artistic and beautifully constructed lantern installations outside of China. A fabulous experience! Of course more to come. THE HAUNTED HOUSE... SPOOOOKY

It was Winter, we were in Scarborough, around 3.30... the light dropped... fast, we were still on the Pier, now on the front, along the seafront/promenade, there stands a house, during the day... it is just a house, but at night, when they turn on the ligts... it becomes a haunted house, the lights change, from red to green to blue to yellow. I saw the moon next to it. NO TRIPOD! So it was time to risk it and count on my own 'stability', focus, elbow on hip, breath in, hold it,shoot... ahem, this is the result, well my heart WAS beating LOL... It does make for a good Halloween picture? Have a good one! RAN OUT OF RED???

Dublin/ Temple Bar. Next to 'The Wall of Fame', was this building, I liked the symmetry, also the 'creative colours' in which it was painted... it just cracked me up when I saw that, at some point... they must have run out of red paint... and that seemed like some time ago... still waiting for the order of the same paint colour? COLOURCUBES...

I like having things around the house that are to do with light. Here I had some fun in Photoshop. I had photographed the light cube/table and thought it was ‘too simple’, so I changed the original white in different colours and made it into one image. I’m still amazed that my eye can be fooled through colours. Somehow, to me, they don’t look the same, and yet they exactly are. Does it have that effect on you? The software to manipulate photos can be fun, it is helpful technology... we ALL have to try it, see what it can do... I COULD BAKE YOU A SWEET RAINBOW in THESE???

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ LOL! Trendy cupcake moulds in paper! Yes they are so very much the 'flavour' of the moment! A cupcake (also British English: fairy cake; Australian English: patty cake or cup cake) is a small cake designed to serve one person, frequently baked in a small, thin paper or aluminium cup. The first mention of the cupcake can be traced as far back as 1796, when a recipe notation of "a cake to be baked in small cups" was written in American Cookery by Amelia Simms. Cupcakes have become more than a trend over the years; they've become an industry and in the last two years or so, cupcakes really exploded!!! Birthday's, Wedding cakes, you name it... cupcakes! The 21st century cupcake variations are endless. They range from simple to sublime. Baking papers come in designer prints. Here they went for colours, which I loved! could, once again, not resist! ALWAYS QUESTIONS???

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ As far as I can remember, there was a question mark at the end of my sentence! That's how I gathered a load of knowledge, never been afraid to ask a question, so the subject of this image a very useful tool all through my life! Always hungry for the how and why. Yet, I, luckily, do not suffer from morbid curiosity about other people. I am a good listener, they can tell me things, I'm interested, but I will rarely ask personal questions. I don't consider this indifference, I call it respect. Think before you ask... there are questions... and: ...you HAVE to be able to live with the answer! If and when I want to photograph someone or something, I ask, if the answer is yes, I am happy, if it is no, I respect it, at least I ASKED! There are these four ways of answering questions. Which four? 1. There are questions that should be answered categorically [straightforwardly yes, no, this, that]. 2. There are questions that should be answered with an analytical (qualified) answer [defining or redefining the terms]. 3. There are questions that should be answered with a counter-question. 4. There are questions that should be put aside. These are the four ways of answering questions. I bought these four, all in striking colours, they are very decorative (when I have no fresh flowers I put those in a vase!). HANGING AROUND... Umbrellas

HANGING AROUND in THE HEAT, OUT OF A JOB... During a heatwave Summer on the Continent, on our way back from the swimming pool/beach, I passed a shop where those fashion accessories were 'just hanging around', I went into the shop and asked the lady if I could photograph them... sure I could... I felt her surprised frown and questioning eyes boring into my back... Photographers... a strange species... tee hee. All I had with me was a small point and shoot, a Nikon P1, it came out very well, Getty wanted it and it has been sold a number of times! So, it is NOT the camera.. but ALWAYS the photographer who 'makes' the image! DAY 7 We walk the main street, where all the shops are. I see this display, telling us what the trendy colours are to be for Autumn and Winter, LOL. THE ENCHANTED WOOD, MAGIC...

Like I said, to my grandchildren this the previous photo, SEE THE ENCHANTED WOOD, was an enchanting and enchanted wood! They already were quite used to the small digital cameras and how to take photos, now they are more and more interested and more curious in some of the ‘tricks’ and creativity, especially my granddaughter. Every time I had taken a photo, they wanted to see the back of my camera, aahh, those big surprised eyes when there was 'nothing', lovely. After the ‘normal’ shot, with my camera on the tripod and while the shutter was open I moved the camera upwards creating the blur effect. After our 'adventure' walk, we took the film into the lab, went for a break and a drink, an hour later, we saw the results... the test-prints... They thought it was magic! Now of course this can all be done digitally and with software. That was 2007 and I was still using my trusty and cherished Nikon F4. I held out for quite some time, not convinced about the quality? A lot has changed! Yet isn't it much the same... done in a different way? I like this because it’s such a lovely blend of the autumn colours with the tree trunks so strong. ALL BONNIE 19 99...

From a series Urban Mix. STILL FEELING LIKE FUUUUUUUN, especially in the Fine Art Category! Walked through the beautiful Edwardian buildings of the market, almost everything from the mundane to the exotic is available in this largest undercover market in the country. At the very heart of Leeds city centre this bustling market was the first home of a humble stall that grew to be Marks and Spencer. This is one of the shops... hairpieces, wigs, for real or fun... I was attracted by all the colours, but also how haircolour and style changes your features and looks, or is that just me, do they look the same to you? I know about the reflections, but, that's the whole vibe, the bright lights in the high ceilings, hustle and bustle. Well, people did give me some funny side glances and smiles when they saw me take this, and yet; I had set myself the task of going out with only the small Nikon P1, small, discreet and unobtrusive, that camera keeps impressing me… View On proper Black Have a good hair day and thanx for your visit, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) This part of the national park is popular with walkers due to the presence of the Yorkshire three peaks. In 1954 an area of 1,770 square kilometers (680 sq mi) was designated the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Most of the National Park is in North Yorkshire, though part lies within Cumbria. However, the whole park lies within the historic boundaries of Yorkshire, divided between the North Riding and the West Riding. The park is 50 miles (80 km) north east of Manchester; Leeds and Bradford lie to the south, while Kendal is to the west and Darlington to the east. The area has a large collection of activities for visitors. For example, many people come to the Dales for walking. The National Park is crossed by several long-distance routes including the Pennine Way, the Dales Way, the Coast to Coast Path and the latest national trail—the Pennine Bridleway. THE PRICE TO PAY... IWD

International Women Day, 8 March.
Granada.
We arrive at the Flamenco School on time after quite a treck through narrow steep winding streets, it says on the beautiful old door: Escuela Carmen de las Cuevas. It is too dark to photograph, we must hurry. We are led into a cellar-like row of vaulted small rooms, introduced to dancers, guitarists, singers... onto the small studio where the advanced dancers are already warming up. As in every dance studio, the performers are NOT wearing the 'stage' finery! But comfortable warm'cool clothing, also always lots of water bottles, it is very dehydrating exercise! One wall of a dance studio is always mirror.
Paul and I look at each othe and grin... interesting... the size of the room, the lights, the eflections... how are we going to keep OUT of the picture?
The teacher comes in, he shows the ladies some steps, they follow, the floor starts to shake and 'thunder', it goes right through you! What an experience! The rhythm is wonderful, I see the important attention also on the hand-movements. The counting goes on, the clapping, the feet so fast.
A guitar player comes in after a short break... a deep swollow of water and they're off again...

It is a Bulería, which originated in Jerez during the 19th century, originally as a fast, upbeat ending to soleares or alegrias. It is among the most popular and dramatic of the flamenco forms and often ends any flamenco gathering. The name bulerías comes from the Spanish word burlar, meaning "to mock" or bullería, "racket, shouting, din". It is the style which permits the greatest freedom for improvisation, the metre playing a crucial role in this. Speed and agility are required and total control of rhythm as well as strength in the feet which are used in intricate tapping with toe, heel and the ball of the foot.
Paul and I are transfixed... then it is over... Silence, the smell of persiration, the sounds reverberating, atremble still, our adrenaline still pumping... one young lady stays behind, slides down, takes off her dancing shoes, massages her feet, takes care of the blisters...
A wan smile, we say good-bye and thank you, dissapear into the night, silent and still very affected by the whole thing. Another unique experience!

WEDDING TOP HATS...

MY AB FAV... here for today: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ There are few photographers (well, I never met one) who really ‘enjoy’ taking wedding photos, probably because it is ALWAYS nerve-racking, you are more than ‘the photographer’, you deal with people (and kids) who are out of their comfort zone, a nervous bride and often even more nervous groom, dressed up, things go wrong. The weather is not what was expected! Then they have to meet new people, two extended families thrown together for one day… Now with digital cameras maybe a little less so, no fiddling and keeping track of your film, you can quickly check if you have got the right moment with good expressions, but there are still moments during the ceremony that you only have literally ONE shot at… Yet wedding photography is a massive part of the industry, very important for the couple, and a great record for posterity, look how things have changed over the years, the clothes, make-up and hair, the flowers AND the style of photography! Also often it’s the only time families are together in a photograph, the older people can come out of the retirement home and are cherished and pampered for the day, the babies are cooed over, the young children run riot to the despair of their parents who had hoped for a day ‘off’. As the photographer, I cannot resist constantly looking for the ‘personal’ shots, the image that will make it ALL worth while for me as a creative… I’ve made it my ‘game’, to come away from each wedding with a different imaginative image, thing is, when the couple see it, it often becomes their favourite very quickly, tee hee. This is one of them, the ceremony was over, everybody had arrived for the reception before the meal. The men, feeling a bit awkward, couldn’t wait to get rid of the top hats, put them on a chair; the sun came in through the window, people started to come in, I had only a brief moment to take this, how could I resist, he? I wish you a day full of love and joy, and thanx for commenting, always very appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

LEFFE BLONDE…

DAY 4 We arrive back on the market of Brugge, and need some more refreshment. Choose one of the many inviting terraces. A few table removed I spot an Oriental family enjoying a proper Belgian beer, Leffe. They come from all over the world to sample the beer of Belgium! Dripping cool, on draught, they slowly savour it. I photograph it. There are several beers in the range, and they are marketed as Abbey beers. The abbey of Leffe was founded in 1152 on the Meuse River in the province of Namur in southern Belgium. Like many monasteries across Europe, the Premonstratensian (Norbertine) canons of the abbey brewed ale, starting in 1240. Using knowledge passed from generation to generation and ingredients found in the wild near the abbey, the canons developed a unique ale with a subtle taste and high alcohol content, brewed only at the abbey. Now all Leffe brands are brewed at the Stella Artois brewery in Leuven. There are 9 different Leffe beers. Leffe Blond contains 6.6% alcohol and is best served at 5-6°C in a beer chalice, which will allow all the flavours to come through. SANTE!Cheers… Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

PERMEKE'S PALETTE...

PERMEKE'S PALETTE PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME, VIA THE WEBSITE! Constant Permeke (1886 - 1952) Born in Antwerp. Belgium.-Died Ostend. Constant Permeke was a leading Expressionist painter in his home country during the period between World War I and World War II. In 1914, he was severely injured and sent to England for recovery. Permeke returned to Belgium five years later, eventually building a home and studio in Jabbeke. His paintings normally depicted the aspects of life in a coastal town and portraits of fisherman. He was a contemporary of Picasso. After 1935, Permeke began creating sculpture as well. Permeke's work was an extension of his personality. A giant, he worked in large studios on large canvases; even his drawings are large. His character was uncouth and quick-tempered yet gentle and generous. He was direct and single-minded. When he built his house in Jabbeke, just outside Bruges, it was very avant-garde. It is now a permanent museum for his work. On a visit, in his beautiful studio (atelier), the family have left it untouched, the huge unfinished painting on the easel; I photographed his palette with brushes, preserved in a glass tabletop display. With all the reflections not the easiest photo to take, I included a small photo of one of his paintings, for those who are not familiar with his work. MY PALETTE...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME, VIA THE WEBSITE! I've painted for as long as I can remember. I believe if you are a creative it is NEVER just in one field... And as you can see, I have always loved vibrant colours? I photographed one of my paintings, 60x50, and inserted it; I was so surprised when it actually matched the colours on my palette! Some of the brushes I used belonged to my grandfather and father. The painting is actually done completely with palette knife, my fave tool. I painted with oils, watercolours, but I made hundreds of soft pastels. I don't paint anymore now; I might again, one day, who knows? I believe you have to be in a specific ‘state of mind’, plus, I must admit that over the years Photography has satisfied my creative needs more and more. I’ll upload the above 'inserted' painting sometime for those who’d like to see it. I painted it from memory, a tour of Bretagne. I had been most impressed with the rough rocky coasts, the often emerald waters, the ‘wildness’ of the place. The photo was taken solely with ambient light. MY FLOWER PAINTING...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME, VIA THE WEBSITE! One of the first paintings where the idea originated from, now almost 25 years ago. Just to EXPLAIN how it came about FOR ME? It stems from this, one day I painted a flower border against the black tarred bottom of a house in Flanders (used to be very common and still is in rural Flanders), for a client. I moved the idea on from oils on canvas to soft pastels on black velvet, from there to the studio-photography. This is what started the 'flower' journey! A city girl, I eventually had a garden and wanted to learn all about flowers and plants! Do a 'proper' job! Then I wanted to capture all this and so learn about light. All done with palette knives! A BLACK bg has been a 'signature' for over 15 years now when virtually nobody did that, you can see it all through my pf, from the days of film... good to see so many 'enjoy' it. I wish you all the best and THANX, M, (*_*) Have a good day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS: http://www.indigo2photography.co.uk/magda-portfolio.htm Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

Mon cœur est un bouquet de violettes...

The viola is a large family containing 500 species, they are on record in Greece from the 4th century B.C. Later in Europe, it was discovered that a plant similar to a viola grew in open areas. The plant found mostly in fields and amongst rocks in the Alps, hence Alpine. It became known as a wild pansy. It might have been a romantic Frenchman who 'named' it... A pensée can be a thought or a saying, short or it can be as long as a paragraph, a page, a poem! Maybe he thought of his loved-one, dried one amongst some book he carried? Juste une pensée... lol. These delicately fragrant flowers come in a wonderful variety of colours. The dark centres in some flowers are thought to resemble little faces. These are a smaller variety (a flower not much bigger than my thumbnail!), that I have in the garden, I could not resist photographing them in the studio... FLOWERS Hennie Clarijs LIKES… COWSLIP

I am uploading a series of ‘older’ flowers. Like in everything else, there is a trend in flowers, both for the garden or the house. In Flanders, they are called, little mouth of Calve, in Holland they know them as Lion’s mouth. I always saw a little lamb, BAAAHH, LOLOLOL Antirrhinum is a genus of plants commonly known as dragon flowers or snapdragons because of the flowers' fancied resemblance to the face of a dragon that opens and closes its mouth when laterally squeezed. They are native to rocky areas of Europe, the United States, and North Africa. JUST BECAUSE... I AM HAPPY!

I have every reason to be happy... I am privileged to live in PEACE! How beautiful is that? Ordinarily, flowerbaskets are round and for hanging up... Gathered all the cyclamens in one basket, I decided to photograph the whole scene instead of an 'isolated' few ). I just love those colours... The name Cyclamen is presumed to come from Greek 'kyclos', a circle referring to the round tubers, or leaves. Lovely inverted flowers rise out of fantastically patterned rounded or heart-shaped leaves. Some of the patterns, particularly the silver leaved varieties are exquisite and can truly be described as a wonder of nature. From the family Primulaceae, they come in beautiful colours from white, pink, purple, red and combinations of these. Cyclamen like the cool; the smaller the leaves, the cooler they can stand it. The tubers are regarded as the favourite food for pigs in the South of France, Sicily and Italy, hence a rather uncommon common name Sowbread. Cyclamen are poisonous; they have been used medicinally as a powerful purgative, but their toxicity makes this risky. Giving my flowers SOUL? ART in PHOTOGRAPHY...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! The big A... art? I consider myself a creative photographer, not an art photographer. It is such a massive discussion what art is... been there, worn that T-shirt, lol. Until the day there is a definite and 'plausible' definition of ART, that's when I'll change my mind, in the mean-time, I'll stick to creative... When not 'dictated' by a client, I take images that come out of my brain, the birth of the idea, the development of it, my vision and the creation, my enjoyment and the challenge, the hype and the anticipation, the playing with light, to me, the ultimate high, I don't need anything else. Once the image is there, I'm content, and if it 'inspires' others, releases an emotion, that's wonderful! MORE ON THE SUBJECT HERE: magdaindigo.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/why-knot-to-art-or-not... OIL AND VINEGAR...

From the series Circles and lights. You may remember the series Cubes and lights I did last year, well this year I saw how many round objects there are in our home, so, we were back on Winter time, it was dark very early, the weather had gone bad, I had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more. Glass is one of the most difficult substances to photograph; my challenge: to use the reflections in a positive manner so that they add to the image. I love using different oils and vinegars in the kitchen, so over the years these cruets, glass beauties have now become part of a collection, the first was the 'ball' one in front! Now two together I wish you all a sweet day and thanx for your visit, always welcome, Magda, (*_*) Please do not use any of my images on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

VISUAL SILENCE…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ I had been 'playing' with this concept for a while in my head. I called it (instead of the Silence of the Lambs) the Silence of the Bird. When I had the final result, it came to me immediately: VISUAL SILENCE. I don't often 'dive' into the digital 'magical' darkroom that photoshop can be, but for certain projects it is a great creative tool! Here, in the case of visual silence, what is being absorbed is not sound but gaze. If silence is the absence of noise, then this visual silence is defined as the gradual absence, the vanishing, of what surrounds it, where we burrow from the visible surface to the invisible core. Our focus on the image involves a diminution of the optic field: in this sense, visual silence is like a poem, its power arising from its sheer vulnerability. The image cannot be penetrated even by the most powerful of gazes because it is already open, in full view... and yet the transparency of the image, one that does not attempt to hide anything, is still capable of mystery. Visual silence arrests us because it is the interface between two realms of partial knowledge: between he who does not know he is being watched and those who do not know what they are watching. Some images leave us speechless, we watch them in silent awe. Ultimately the camera is merely an extension of the human eye, it only sees and cannot wholly know what it is seeing. May PEACE be with you and thanx for everything, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use any of my images on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

BEAUTY CONTEST… Roses and Tulips

Yes, it is PINK-WEEK, by popular demand! Pink is a pale red color, which takes its name from the flower of the same name, Dianthus (carnation) . According to surveys in Europe and the United States, pink is the colour most often associated with love, beauty, charm, politeness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity, and the romantic. When combined with violet or black, it is associated with eroticism and seduction. The name derives from the frilled edge of the flowers—the verb "to pink" dates from the 14th century and means "to decorate with a perforated or punched pattern" (possibly from German pinken, "to peck"). While the word "pink" was first used as a noun to refer to a color in the 17th century, the verb "pink" continues to be reflected today in the name of those hand-held scissors that cut a zig-zagged line referred to as pinking shears. Pink was not a common colour in the fashion of the Middle Ages; nobles usually preferred brighter reds, such as crimson. Shocking pink was a new and more assertive pink invented by Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli in 1931, by mixing a little white with magenta. It became her signature colour. Pink has symbolised a "welcome embrace" in India and masculinity in Japan. MORE about pink HERE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink Pale pink Roses and Tulips, whichever wins? ABOUT COTTON...

We all know cotton, but what do we actually KNOW about cotton? What an influence it's had on our world in many different ways? www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSJZ12iMzvQ&feature=related It is not something you see here often in the UK, but I had the oportunity and took advantage of it.PLEASE, take the time to View LARGE and On Black, well worth it! I could NOT imagine my life without it, together with silk and wool, my absolute favorite materials. I do not like synthetics and avoid them as much as possible, not a fanatic in anything, I do enjoy Fleece (made from recycled bottles?). Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective capsule, around the seeds of cotton plants of the genus Gossypium. The plant is a shrub native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including the Americas, Africa, India, and Pakistan. The fiber most often is spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile, which is the most widely used natural-fiber cloth in clothing today. 9/11... THE NEVER-ENDING, DEEP GRIEF...

11 years... WHERE WERE YOU? We ALL REMEMBER... I had just finished watching the news with my lunch, at home, getting ready to continue my afternoon work... when up came an extra news flash, I sat down again, thought a plane had lost control, called my husband at work, told him what was unfolding in front of my unbelieving eyes... I was screaming, crying, something broke in me, images NEVER forgotten, sadly as vivid as 11 years ago, it affected ALL of us! A Belgian living in West-Yorkshire, England... M, ( ; _ ; ) We've seen lots of changes, good and not so good, but we survive... adapt, live our lives as well as possible. You learn to 'miss' someone, yet a part of you is gone forever, they took your memories with them and yet, as long as you live, they will live... In my family, I am the last 'link' of the previous generations, when I go, I'll be 'accompanied' by many. Maybe I SHOULD write about them? Courage and determination sees us through however the deep sadness, the terrible images live within our hearts forever... GRIEFSTRICKEN…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ In many ways! I grew up in Flanders in the shadow of the poppies, remembrance of the wars never far away. Everywhere you go, there are graveyards, Belgian, English, American, Canadian, Polish, South-African, Australian and German... As a child, it is just part of the countryside, pretty, neat rows of stones and flowers. Then, the age of awareness comes, you want to know and understand. The adults'd rather not talk about it, their gaze becoming distant and full of sorrow and hidden, unspoken suffering ... Most of them gone now too This is 2 images, one a work of Art in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the other one of my poppies which I took in Flanders. BELGIUM welcomes A NEW KING...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! On this, the National Day in Belgium, the previous King Albert, abdicated in favour of his son, King Philippe. Long Live The King! This image was taken in Brussels, it is the iconic Atomium with the tricolour, black, yellow and red, flying proudly on top. The Atomium was originally constructed for Expo '58, the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn with interiors by architects André and Jean Polak, it stands 102 m (335 ft) tall. Its nine 18 m (59 ft) diameter stainless steel clad spheres are connected so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times.Tubes connect the spheres along the 12 edges of the cube and all eight vertices to the centre. They enclose escalators and a lift to allow access to the five habitable spheres which contain exhibit halls and other public spaces. Portico and pool of the early 14th-century Partal...

AND AGAIN, MORE REFLECTIONS for today... The Alhambra, the complete form of which was Calat Alhambra, and the Generalife were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. It ia a palace and fortress complex in Muslim Architecture. The places open for public visits are divided into four areas: Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, Partal and Generalife. Alhambra, Granada, Spain. HERE is: The portico, with its five arches, overlooks a large pool in the centre of the garden. Behind the portico is the main room, located inside the tower known as Las Damas. WELL WORTH A VISIT!!! Order your tickets before hand or you might not get in! It is extremely popular. The access to the beautiful and exotic Nasrid Palaces is different from the rest of the monument, because it is strictly limited to the half- hour indicated on the ticket due the restrictions on maximum capacity in this area (300 people). This is inside, Patio de los Arrayanes (Court of the Myrtles) and is also called the Patio de la Alberca (from Arabic "Birka" meaning pool). Photographing is difficult because of the crowds... But, if, like me, one of your virtues is 'patience' (NOT!)... people move on with their guides and staying behind a little could pay off, like it did for me. Don't be fooled by the emptiness! LOL. BORN IN BRUGES!!!

TWO anonymous quotes I love: "Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect it means you are looking past the imperfections." and "The best vitamin to be a happy person is B1." I found this in a garden in the city where I was born: Bruges, the capital of the province of West-Flanders, in Belgium. People from Brugge (the proper Flemish name!) are generally renowned for their wit and sense of humour, their artisticity, it is seen in many things, like in the architecture, a great love of detail, like in their lace and Art! ON THE GO at KINGS CROSS STATION LONDON... HAPPY TRAVELLING!

FOR SUMMER... Sitting on a low wall, waiting on Sunday noon, King’s Cross Station in London, it was stifling hot. Instead of being bored and impatient, I decided to pass the time being 'creative'... I noticed all the people hurrying by and also, especially, that EVERYBODY was lugging bags, lots of bags, of all types, colours and designs. Spotted, striped, classic, coloured. I wondered, what were they all transporting? Can we not go anywhere without our ‘wheeled’ carriers? Often not one but more, backpacks, plastic, leather, designed, handbags, so many. All different, just like the people, their shoes, legs and leg wear! I saw people traveling alone, in pairs, in group, I saw them smile, I saw them laugh, I saw some cry, I saw some depressed and some tired, people of all walks of life. I saw hellos and I saw good-byes... all the emotions ... I became smilingly fascinated and eventually left feeling a great sense of joy because of this series. Please have a look at the set? ON THE GO Which one tickles your fancy? I’m curious and interested! THE OLD BICYCLE... LE GRAND BI...

That Summer, we were in Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the EU, sadly visiting a very sick friend in hospital. Afterwards, we decided to stay on for awhile and roamed the streets of the center, till we arrived on the spectacular market square, which was swarming with people, on this lovely summer's eve, speaking in languages from all over the globe... We looked for a place to eat, there were plenty, also all nationalities... we decided on an attractive looking terrace, that had the theme of old bicycles... and that was the best bit... The food was touristy and a great dissapointment, aahh well, it happens, shame because normally Belgium is known for its outstanding cuisine! We also had to wait a long time, not ideal when you are hungry and everybody around you is eating... It did give some time though to take some shots, this is one of them. WHEEL OF FORTUNE...

WHEEL OF FORTUNE... This is taken in Bruges, a couple had been brought to one of the photo 'hotspots' for their wedding shots, in this beautiful old timer. It shone and sparkled in the sun, the driver eyeing me suspiciously as I hovered around it, my Nikon F4 clearly visible, I was only looking for a good angle, surely he MUST be used to that! A few fluffy clouds in front of the sun, went down on one knee, composed and pushed the shutter, as the chauffeur came around the front. The buttons almost popped off his uniform when he saw I'd taken a photo of HIS machine. Paid him with a big smile. The sun was back. I walked on... UN AMOUR de SWANN…

Tour of Europe 04 2016
Day 13 Why this title? Because this was a tiny feather of one of the many swans of Brugge. It must have flown up from the water beneath, to be trapped in one of the young, budding branches. Un amour de Swann is the second part of the novel; Du côté de chez Swann, the first being À la recherche du temps perdu, by Marcel Proust. Or, it also reminded me of this poem from my youth: Mijn harte, ’lijk het wuivig pluis der lichte vachten, op de ure dat moede avond neigt naar bleeken nachte, dat de aarde trage golft van schapen, en ’t gedein der kudde en van een herder-fluite zoete zijn; — aan elke doornen-haag een wuivig pluis gebleven, en ... — God: ziehier mijn hart, ziehier dit moede leven, gerafeld te Uwen wille als een geplukte vacht; — maar laat me voelen, dat een warme stal me wacht ... My heart, like the waving wool of the pale fleeces, at the hour when weary evening leans to pallid night, when the earth heaves sluggishly with sheep, and the rippling of the flock and of a shepherd’s pipe are sweet; — a waving woolly tuft caught on each thorn-bush, and ... — God: behold my heart, behold this weary life, frayed to your will just like a plucked-out fleece; — but let me feel that a warm byre awaits me ... written by Karel van de Woestijne, a famous Flemish writer and friend of my father. I love details, always looking for them. FROM A COW with an ITCH?

Just some 'cow hairs' stuck to the barbed wire. Some cow must have had a good scratch. There are hundreds of small cobwebs, this pluck of hair must have been there some time, a haven for insects. I love the simplicity. I like this type of image, one out of my 'private' collection. I was invited for an exclusive interview by Debbie Slater of 500px. You can read it HERE:500px.com/blog/139/portrait-magda-indigo Hope you enjoy it? A small peep behind the camera? I do not often give them, but when I do, I go all out, LOL. Thank you Debbie and 500px. Thanking everybody who took the time to view and comment on my images over the 8 months I've uploaded on 500px. Your warm respons touches me deeply. DOES MY BUM LOOK BIG IN THIS???

PURE NEW WOOL? TODAY I FEEL LIKE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!! It was a lovely day, we went for a drive to the Yorkshire Dales/Moors... We chose Malham, drove past the Cove and the Tarn... Away, "Far from the Madding Crowd" and ended up in the stunning absolute silence of Malham Moor, the swallows were sheering over the grasses and buttercups, one of the few sounds to hear, that and a lonely lam calling for mum... A winding road, now and then a cattle grid, sheep are grazing alongside, they look at you inquisitively ... FIBER SALVO

Let the festive season begin... For December I'll upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Fiber optic lighting systems transmit beams of light from a single, centralized halogen or metal halide lamp through glass or plastic fibers. The densely packed bundles of fibers are twisted and drawn through an outer jacket to dramatically increase the amount of light that reaches the outlets. This is a close-up detail... MACRO, comp in camera!!! They still fascinate me but I am less fond of those that change colours, I prefer mono, so I have these white and the one blue… so far… Thanx you very much for your time, visit, comments and awards..., M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE COLOURS OF AYSGARTH FALLS... FOR World Water Day 2013

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! These Falls are in the North Yorkshire national park 'The Yorkshire Dales'. Aysgarth is best known for its breathtaking triple flight of waterfalls, carved out by the River Ure on its descent to mid-Wensleydale. They are very popular and spectacular, can also be very dangerous when it's been raining a lot and the water comes gushing down the surrounding mountains and hills. They have been photographed to death, so I wanted something different... I was extremely attracted and fascinated by the colours, the indigo and amber, the chaud/froid and also the force of the water. GREAT On proper Black People ask me about settings, my favourite lens used to be a Nikkor 28-200 on my Nikon F4, I shot film until 2 years ago, usually Superia extra 400. The settings here must have been f 5.6/ 250, to 'freeze' the action. I do this by 'feel' by now more than anything else, the years of experience do matter, lol. Now I am on my fourth digital camera a Nikon D7000 with my now favourite lens ( to go out and be FREE...) is the AF-S NIKKOR 18-200 DX VR2, for those interested (A FAQ). SECRET CODE...

the title came simultaneously as I saw it, just an unpretentious image of something that made me laugh when I saw it... A bit of humour? Somebody called it 'chaotic minimalism'... is there such a thing?
View On Black
One of the first images I took, on the first morning in Fuerteventura, outside the hotel, that's how it came out of the camera and I love it, hope you do too.
Photography has a 'CODE', it is fluid, like all good things, stagnating is not good, new gadgets mean new styles, new media means new rules or should I say 'adapted'?
Here is something I think EVERY photographer enthusiast or pro, semi-pro, whatever... SHOULD read!!! ENJOY!!!
The few rules of composition are acceptable only as reference points, which may have many valid exceptions. Sometimes breaking the rules is a means to obtain a good photo. Of course, this is true if and only if the photographer is aware of what he’s doing.
So, here is how Feininger, in his book, dismantles many academic rules:
1. The golden section (and, I add, the rule of thirds, ie. to place the subject at 1/3 from one edge of the photo), while ensuring peace and harmony, can be boring.
2. The “S”-shape curve is one of the most repeated patterns in photography
3. The theory of “guidelines”, which lead the viewer’s eye to the main subject, is false, as demonstrated by scientific studies. The eye quickly detects the most interesting part of the picture. And then, not necessarily the main subject of the photographer coincides with the center of attention of the observer.
4. Threads of compositions based on triangles, diagonals and other refined geometric figures exists only in the minds of photographers who have invented them. The academic observer who is free from preconceptions, does not care about such rules.
5. The horizon line should never split the photo in two equal parts, to avoid a monotone (boring) images. But if the photographer wanted to express the sensations of boredom?
6. Movement and action should always proceed from left to right, according to the normal sense of the reading. False: Jews and Arabs read from the right to the left!
7. The space in front of the subject should be greater than the space behind him. It is not always true: for example, a running person, placed towards the edge of the picture in the direction of its motion, gives an impression of arrival, and this is important when you are photographing sporting events (such as running races in athletics).
8. In the portrait, when the subject looks at the camera, you should leave more space in the direction of his eyes. False. Violating this rule can give a state of tension to the photo.
9. The bright parts of a photo catch the eye more than dark. False, a dark form with well-defined boundaries, in a large and clear area, immediately attracts the eye.
10. Repetition and spatial periodicity of similar elements can produce interesting patterns. False. There is no reason why a grid or a series of many identical and uninteresting objects is better than one object worthy of interest.
On the other hand, as Feininger said in its book, there are at least three rules in which he has never found an exception:
1. The small white areas of the subject or of the background situated near the edges of the photo gives the impression of a print “gnawed by rats”. These areas should be burned (blackened) in the darkroom (or cropped)
2. Curves and round forms should never touch the edges of the photo, but should be cut with courage, leaving out of the picture a not negligible part of the curve
3. The straight lines should not end in a corner of the photo, but should terminate at a certain distance from it. magdaindigo.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/secret-code-and-newold...

THE NET...

saw this on New-Year's day in Fuerteventura. View On Black
Passing an overcrowded shop with everything displayed outside, I saw this blue net sticking out above the rest. For butterflies or little fish? Or both? LOL...
I wanted to photograph it against the sky so had to go down, and bend and crouch and kneel to get the angle I wanted. People apparently were staring in disbelief, but when I’m composing an image, I forget about everything else!
My challenge was to photograph blue on blue, I love to use the light to bring out the gossamer forms.
It sings of sun and fun and wind and freedom and holiday, that small net high up catching the sun and the wind and the light and my eye… one of my personal favourites from the trip.

yellow day... chocolate day. Please, remember these are MACRO shots, it all looks much bigger than it is in reality, the small coloured eggs in the other images are smaller than the tip of my finger. This has been another of my 'ongoing for years' projects, I wanted the tree and the sky in the 4 seasons, this is the final work, just finished it. The beauty and multi-facets of Nature will never cease to amaze and enchant me. A NEW YEAR IS LIKE A BUDDING FLOWER...

A metaphor, 2017 as the bud of a flower! 2016 GONE, only memories and good images left now, LOL. Full of PROMISE of all things good, we hope for. Petal after petal, layer after layer, day after day, week after week, it opens... with ups and downs, sunshine and rain, warm and cold, the laughter and the tears! Get through the 'lesser' days and enjoy the 'better' days, it is like fighting through the storms and then basking in the warm sunshine. I hope 2017 brings a LOT of SUN for you, many beautiful ‘flowers’ and above all PEACE. Looking forward to another year filled with the beauty to all the senses that flowers provide. Our best wishes. Have a good day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved
