MORE CORDAGE...

Just to show you how much rigging is involved in tall ships and that's only around ONE of the masts. Miles of ropes, neatly coiled and wound around beautiful, weathered wooden pegs.Correctly speaking this is a belaying pin with coils of line...When you get back everything has to be shipshape again for the next trip. Some skippers are more 'demanding' than others... Like I said a photographic treaure trove! A real delight to my eyes, the wood and ALL THOSE ROPES!!! AND NOW FOR THE GREAT EXPERIENCE: View On proper Black LOL THANX. HOLD TIGHT…

#abfav_2_together_theme Taken on the Nausikaa, a three-mast Clipper, we used to sail on. Love ropes, so many different knots, the light was fantastic on the beautiful wood and this 'silky' texture. Camera here was my treasured Nikon F4 My preferred lens was the Nikkor 28-200mm, so liked that compression. My preferred film was Fuji(400). I try to use flash AS LITTLE as possible. I only use a tripod if I HAVE to. HIHI, lol Thank you for viewing.Magda (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not COPY or use any of my images on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

ROPES ON THE NAUSIKAA..

Taken on the Nausikaa, a three-mast Clipper, uploaded a shot from her earlier. I love ropes, so many different knots, the light was fantastic on the beautiful wood and this 'silky' texture. View On proper proper Black Correctly speaking these are belaying pins with coils of line/rope... I wrote a blog on the subject of ropes and the metophorical meaning they hold for me: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/04/metaphor-of-life-of-knot... Camera here is one of my treasured Nikon F4. My preferred lens was the Nikkor 28-200mm, now the 18-200mm I also work with a Nikkor 75-300, love the compression. With the NikKor 60mm Macro, I have a love/hate relationship. I love the results but I do not enjoy working with it. The 85mm is fantabulous for portraits. The 24mm is a superb wide-angle. My preferred film was Fuji Pro(400). I try to use flash AS LITTLE as possible. I often work with one or more reflectors. I only use a tripod if I HAVE to. HIHI, lol Now of course, things have changed over the years, practically all digital, I love my Nikon D200 and D7000... unless a client requests a specific camera like Hasselblad, or even film... but the lenses and preferences remained the same! THE KNOTS and BOLTS OF IT...

Series: METAPHOR OF LIFE, of knots and ropes and hooks. Here, I was again hunting around the yachtclub, I'd had my eye on those ropes for some time, because to my fascination, each skipper has his own way of 'tying the knot', some are very meticulous, others more sloppy, all different, all colours as well. I've collected them from all over and find them great fun. A word play on the term: the nuts and bolts - meaning: detailed practical information about how something works or how something can be accomplished, info, information - a message received and understood. I wrote this blog about it:magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html Have a wonderful day, filled with love, M, (*_*) And for more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk PLEASE RESPECT THIS: IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) Soul mates will feel themselves bonded together for a lifetime. All through our lives, we form bonds, friendships, partnerships; some last… some don’t... And it goes further… in the 'era' that we now live in, we are more intertwined in each other's lives than ever, how we can touch the lives of many, some we do not even know… especially nowadays AND WITH PHOTOGRAPHY! Many people can be touched by an image... I wrote this blog about it: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/04/metaphor-of-life-of-knot... Some people call this 'sea-clutter', left on the quayside. SPANISH FISHING FLOATS

My AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ ... Always photographically interesting stuff on the quayside, floats and nets... No matter which country you are in, strangely familiar! Small floats were usually made of cork, but fishermen in places where cork was not available used other materials, like birch bark in Finland and Russia, as well as the pneumatophores of Sonneratia caseolaris in Southeast Asia. These materials have now largely been replaced by plastic foam. Glass floats were large glass balls for long oceanic nets, now substituted by hard plastic. They are used not only to keep fishing nets afloat, but also for dropline and longline fishing. Often larger floats have marker flags for easier spotting. These looked to me like the sweets on a bracelet or necklace, when I was young??? LOL Thanx for all your words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. MORE SPANISH FISHING NETWORK...

Wherever we go in the world, it is especially the sea that attracts us most. We're always drawn to the harbour, not to admire the big luxury yachts, no, the fishing harbour, the working boats, the people, the different methods they use. The netting depends obviously on the type of catch they fish for. The majority of rigged nets are made to order, allowing fishermen to have exactly the right net for their needs. Here, in England and the North, the size of the mesh is often bigger than what we saw here in Spain. I fell in love with this scene when I saw it! The colours, aahh, everything! Of course I took a whole selection, this is only one of them… thanx for all your words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. CIRCLE OF LIFE...

Series: METAPHOR OF LIFE, of knots and ropes and hooks.
I wrote this blog about it:
magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
A lot of my photographs evoke the metaphor for life. And this image, taken in Spain and one of my favourite photo of that holiday is once again a perfect example
Circles, ties, knots, rope, scarred background…
You have the circle, example; I took my granddaughter to a place where I had taken my boys and my parents and grand-parents had taken me.
We are surrounded by circles, sun, moon; we LIVE on a ‘circle’
Lots of things come in cycles.
There are bonds that always remain.
You have the ropes= attachment, friendships, ties with your chosen partner, it is beautifully tight.
The other ropes, to me represents the freedom to remain you, free and individualto go in any direction you choose.
Lighter and darker areas, scars underneath, I’m sure that will echo for most of you…
BUT, THE SUN MAKES THE METAL SHINING, SOME ROPES ARE BLEACHED, others COLOURFUL.
LIFE IS GOOD...
Hope you enjoy this as much as I do, I get a kick out of it wach time I see it AND I remember the moment I took it...
Have a great day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

HOLD TIGHT...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! 'THE SPOTLIGHT', a new feature here on 500 px, with INTERVIEW, check it out: portfolios.500px.com/spotlights/magdaindigo# All through our lives we form links, some last… most don’t. Having no permanent links, the denizen of our liquid modern society must tie whatever bonds they can to engage with others, using their wits, skill and dedication. But none of these links are guaranteed to last. Moreover, they must be tied loosely so that they can be untied again, quickly and as effortlessly as possible, when circumstances change - as they surely will, over and over again. The frailty of human links, the feeling of insecurity that frailty inspires, and the conflicting desires to tighten the bonds yet keep them loose, all make us more vulnerable. Some of us are ‘loners’ either through choice or circumstances, but I don’t think that we were ever meant to be by ourselves, that we ‘operate’ better in a social context if we are not without any links. When you have found the right person to form your ‘permanent’ link with, wether it is friendship or partnership, HOLD TIGHT, because it means STRENGTH!!! I wrote this blog about it: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/04/metaphor-of-life-of-knot... FOLDS AND RINGS 2…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_THINGS_THEME Anything nautical. We often sailed on this tall ship, a modernised three-master CLIPPER called the Nausikaa, she had so many lovely features. The skipper was not always happy with the way his crew folded sails or rolled the ropes, but they were mostly very eager volunteers. I found it a real treasure trove, here's one of my favourites, I especially love the light-play. SECRET CODE…

I was nominated, the world through my eyes. THREE. And the NEW RULES of PHOTOGRAPHY? Photography, from day one… MAGIC! Always and still, that magic of being able to catch and preserve a moment in time, otherwise gone forever, now fixed… The good, the bad and the ugly? I know what I prefer capturing, I leave the rest to all the others. The photo has been used for many purposes, also a CD cover. The title came simultaneously as I saw it, just an unpretentious image of something that made me laugh when I saw it... A bit of humour? Somebody called it 'chaotic minimalism'... is there such a thing? One of the first images I took, on the first morning in Fuerteventura, outside the hotel, that's how it came out of the camera and I love it, hope you do too. Photography has a 'CODE', it is fluid, like all good things, stagnating is not good, new gadgets mean new styles, new media means new rules or should I say 'adapted'? Here is something I think EVERY photographer enthusiast or pro, semi-pro, whatever... SHOULD read!!! ENJOY!!! The few rules of composition are acceptable only as reference points, which may have many valid exceptions. Sometimes breaking the rules is a means to obtain a good photo. Of course, this is true if and only if the photographer is aware of what he’s doing. So, here is how Feininger, in his book, dismantles many academic rules: 1. The golden section (and, I add, the rule of thirds, ie. to place the subject at 1/3 from one edge of the photo), while ensuring peace and harmony, can be boring. 2. The “S”-shape curve is one of the most repeated patterns in photography 3. The theory of “guidelines”, which lead the viewer’s eye to the main subject, is false, as demonstrated by scientific studies. The eye quickly detects the most interesting part of the picture. And then, not necessarily the main subject of the photographer coincides with the center of attention of the observer. 4. Threads of compositions based on triangles, diagonals and other refined geometric figures exists only in the minds of photographers who have invented them. The academic observer who is free from preconceptions, does not care about such rules. 5. The horizon line should never split the photo in two equal parts, to avoid a monotone (boring) images. But if the photographer wanted to express the sensations of boredom? 6. Movement and action should always proceed from left to right, according to the normal sense of the reading. False: Jews and Arabs read from the right to the left! 7. The space in front of the subject should be greater than the space behind him. It is not always true: for example, a running person, placed towards the edge of the picture in the direction of its motion, gives an impression of arrival, and this is important when you are photographing sporting events (such as running races in athletics). 8. In the portrait, when the subject looks at the camera, you should leave more space in the direction of his eyes. False. Violating this rule can give a state of tension to the photo. 9. The bright parts of a photo catch the eye more than dark. False, a dark form with well-defined boundaries, in a large and clear area, immediately attracts the eye. 10. Repetition and spatial periodicity of similar elements can produce interesting patterns. False. There is no reason why a grid or a series of many identical and uninteresting objects is better than one object worthy of interest. On the other hand, as Feininger said in its book, there are at least three rules in which he has never found an exception: 1. The small white areas of the subject or of the background situated near the edges of the photo gives the impression of a print “gnawed by rats”. These areas should be burned (blackened) in the darkroom (or cropped) 2. Curves and round forms should never touch the edges of the photo, but should be cut with courage, leaving out of the picture a not negligible part of the curve 3. The straight lines should not end in a corner of the photo, but should terminate at a certain distance from it. Hope your day is filled with smiles and thanx,M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) AB FAV 2 for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ Series: METAPHOR OF LIFE, of knots and ropes and hooks. I wrote this blog about it: http://magdaindigo.blogspot.co.uk/2009_04_01_archive.html So, back from the Continent, we reinforced the bonds with family ... with old friends and new friends... Yes, the feeling good! And this image of some mended nets on board of a boat in the harbour in Ostend/ Flanders is the perfect illustration of how I feel and what I mean. With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, hope you all had a great time! INTERTWINED ROPE…

METAPHOR OF LIFE, of knots and ropes and hooks. Wonderful rope… I see it as a symbol of how, in a good relationship, you as a person, together with your partner, your lives become 'intertwined' and therefore so much stronger. Soul mates will feel themselves bonded together for a lifetime. And it goes further… all so ‘connected’, how we can touch the lives of many, many we do not even know personally or my never meet… especially nowadays. However, connection through PHOTOGRAPHY! Many people can be touched by an image... Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, THANKS FOR VIEWING!!! A GIRL’S DELIGHT… SKIPPING ROPE

#abfav_white A skipping rope... it reminded me of when I was a little girl, what a delight, just loved it. I saw THIS image... and then another, and another... the usual... Don’t ever let your inner child go. WHY KNOT??? TO ART or NOT TO ART????

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ I am spending a lot of time in the studio at the moment. A photographer friend asked an interesting question, why do 'YOU' take photographs? One answer for me is I love the challenge, and it still is! Now it is with lighting, reflective objects and making it all work together the way I want it, and still be surprised, ALWAYS thrilled. A Nylon skipping rope, a prop for a Summer poster, I knotted it like when I was a little girl, then I saw THE image... I photographed it in my own style... Called this first one WHY KNOT??? Uploaded it and it did very well. Then I got an interesting comment that I want to share with you, as it provoked a reaction from me: "In a way this photo is everything that is WRONG with upload-sites. And, everything that's RIGHT. Some people will say what does a mess of different coloured string all placed together and tied into a knot mean? How is that art? Others will say ah, what an excellent metaphor/s that applies to so many themes. What a simple minimalist piece of art. Why didn't I think of that? It's been right in front of me a million times. Most people will lie somewhere in the middle, struggling with the image for a second and quickly flipping to the next piece. Isn't art strange? LOL Thanks for sharing,..." I replied by email: ... You mention the big A... art? I consider myself a creative photographer, not an art photographer. It is such a massive discussion what art is... been there, worn that T-shirt, lol. Until the day there is a definite and 'plausible' definition of ART, I'll change my mind, in the mean-time, I'll stick to creative... Photography is a craft that is acquired over many years! When not 'dictated' by a client, I take images that come out of my brain, the birth of the idea, the development of it, my vision and the creation, my enjoyment and the challenge, the hype and the anticipation, the struggle and disappointment of the failures, the gathering of your courage to try again... the stamina, the madness some love to call passion? The playing with light, to me, the ultimate high, I don't need anything else. Once the image is there, I'm content, and if it 'inspires' others, releases an emotion, that's wonderful! And I've seen how my photos have 'inspired' many! I'm not stupid to think that everybody is going to like, let alone understand my images, but I can easily live with that, because I do not have that expectation! I, in the first place, have to be happy with it, the quality, the composition, EVERYTHING, it has to be immaculate, I have to stand by it 100% or the outside world will NEVER see it! That goes for my pro AND my free work (what you see here). I wouldn't have it any other way. I hope that you enjoyed my 'rave'? Take care, all the best and above all... enjoy your photography. If the day comes I don't enjoy it anymore... I'll GIVE AWAY all my gear (it's a lot, gathered over the years, please don't hold your breath, heeeee), M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please RESPECT this:IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) AND WHY KNOT???

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! 'THE SPOTLIGHT', a new feature here on 500 px, with INTERVIEW, check it out:portfolios.500px.com/spotlights/magdaindigo# Some days I need colour!!! Other days I'm all for b&w, today is one of those days... where it is about texture and tonalities... ALL the shades of grey, from a true black to white and all the gorgeous greys in between! Getting all the tonal values correct in a black and white is not always easy (without losing detail) and it is of course open to massive subjectivity and artistic interpretation. The rule (often, once you know it… to be broken, look at all the good high key images around today!) is A TRUE BLACK, A TRUE WHITE …AND ALL THE GREYS IN BETWEEN, a reflection of life itself? The Zone System (established by Ansel Adams) assigns numbers from 0 through 10 to different brightness values, with 0 representing black, 5 middle gray, and 10 pure white; these values are known as zones. Sometimes you give more contrast and produce less grey-tones, no side or backlighting this time, aach lighting is so important, it is not for nothing that PHOTOGRAPHY means ( photon=light and grafein=to write, to paint) TO PAINT WITH LIGHT! Sadly I all too often see interesting images that are too ‘milky’, because the lack of contrast. You CANNOT SEE the dodging and burning, do it carefully! And also please keep your images ‘clean’, take the time to remove ANY dust or specks; it can ruin a great shot!!! TLC for your photos if you REALLY care about photography. A photographer friend asked an interesting question today, why do YOU take photographs? One answer for me is I love the challenge, and it still is!
