HAVE A HAPPY SUMMER...

#abfav_2_together_theme I think most photographers are nervous around sand. That's why you'll mostly find me 'on the rocks'... tee hee But it had been a long time ago and seemed a great idea to go out for a day in the sand dunes along the Belgian Coast. Not the beach because my dog needed some shade, I scraped away the soft, hot top-layer of sand till I came to the cooler darker layer for him to lie on. He'd wink at me and then come and sit next to me for a while, watching other dogs, seagulls, children playing with balls and other interesting toys. He trembled with trepidation, so I calmed him down, he still gave me that look of 'this is my job', gotta keep things together here... him being a Border Collie, a sheepdog, a WORKING dog. Yes, we took good care of each other. Glad he was there... We've had to miss him since 2006... TWO, together/ Make the most of your Summer, have a lovely time and thanx for your comments, M, (*_*) IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) MAGDA INDIGO...IN CAMERA!

I love the challenge, the buzz of 'complicated'... and beyond the obvious. Bring out the mirrors, the Pneu-Air shutter cable release... prepare for running and mutter the odd swear word... LOL! Here I set up the Hasselblad on a tripod, my Nikon F4 with polaroid back!(I resisted digital for a long time, till I was satisfied with the quality) On another, looking into the mat glass of the Blad, you still with me? It wasn't until the film was developed that I realised my feet were in... now I could have 'cropped', but I preferred it like this, an added touch in my view, and anchored the image, serendipity he? thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *) IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) OF HAT AND TAIL...

Another exercise in lighting, always on the quest of the new and more daring, different, creative, innovative... Learning all the time... still... Painting and accentuating with light = PHOTOGRAPHY! What do you do if you don’t have a model, oohh yes, you do it all yourself! I dressed up, did my hair in this lovely tail/plait. Set up the lights and camera..., mirror, cable-release under foot ready.. After many a try… you get one!!!! It is not just through our faces that we are defined; we have many attributes that give us our identity. Photographers LOVE their hats? LOL MORE THAN EVER: Lead and enjoy a good life, do and say things that enrich... and do not forget to tell the people close to you, how much you love them! SHY...

Shy: this adjective means: not forward but marked by a retiring nature, reticence, or a reserve of manner. One who is shy draws back from others, either because of a withdrawn nature or out of timidity. Something I had to fight my entire life, a lot of people are shy, especially photographers, there is a REASON WHY we are BEHIND the camera, haha? People don't know it! I am the one who has to put them 'at ease'! LOL! I have become an adept in 'concealing' it, however, it is a daily internal barrier I have to cross each time I have to go out or have to go in somewhere (especially the first time) or meet someone new, once that is done... Iím fine. I uploaded this on another site and a photographer/friend of mine wrote: ...shy? OK! Shyness is mostly attractive to others; but a pain inside. Have a wonderful day,a great w-e and thanx for your precious time, Magda (*_*) And for more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) FUN in DUBLIN…

A fun shot in the center of Dublin. Temple Bar is a colourful quarter in the heart of Dublin City which, almost accidentally it could be said, over the years developed a bohemian 'Left Bank' character. It is a shopping, dining, entertaining and exploring feast for the senses. On a typical Irish morning, Temple Bar wakes up to the smell of steaming espresso, the clatter of kegs of Guinness rolling off delivery trucks, and rainwater running between the cobblestones and setts down to the Liffey( the river that runs through Dublin). I'M SO SORRY FOR NOT JUMPING, BUT I WAS WEARING A LONG, TIGHT PENCIL-SKIRT... Paul and I have this agreement, that the 'REAL' photographer is the one who has the original idea. So, when I saw 'the Wall of Fame', Paul had already taken many shots of it, but this was how I saw it, I explained it to Paul and he took it, that makes it my photo... although we have a different 'eye' and artistic temperament and view, we avoid taking the 'same shots' as much as possible. Wishing you all a great day and thanx for your comments every day, Magda, (*_*) FROM the new set, MY PORTRAITS, NATURAL OR NOT! www.flickr.com/photos/9550033@N04/sets/72157602785147721/

A LIFE...

A LIFE. MY LIFE. Photographs are so important, they not only tell a story, they are the positive keepers of our reality. Top left: baby (Belgium) Next: toddler (Belgium) Top right: little girl (Belgium) Under that: tomboy (Belgium) Bottom right: teenager (Belgium) Next: young woman/mother (Holland) Bottom left: woman/mother (South of France) Above: lady photographer (Belgium) Center: TODAY, mature... (England) I tried to make this into a spiral of life... NOT neatly ordered, but pell-mell, with highs and lows, black & white and colour. One of my sayings is, and it always makes Paul laugh, life is like a restaurant, you make choices, if possible... you never know what you're going to get served, can be fingerlicking yummy or painful yuck, well, maybe just as well, it keeps the surprises fresh, hihi. I see something else in it: the evolution of photography! I wish you all a super day, thanx for visiting and all kind words, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A LA REMBRANDT

Rembrandt van Rijn had a particular light and tone in his wonderful portraits and paintings. Dark backgrounds and warm coloured subjects. Well, Rembrandt's paintings were never dark, they were plastered with crude varnish by well meaning conservationist, however that is how we see them now. He had a paint-colour named after him, Rembrandt red= orangey red. Experimenting once more with different lightsettings in the studio, still fascinated after all those years as to what light can do, how it is the most important in photography ( well, equal to the often 'neglected' EMOTION'? LOL). I love challenges, I was dressed in black and chose a black bg. Although I'm not photogenic and don't often go for selfimages, this one, ALA REMBRANDT... well, in those days they preferred a bit more curvaceous ladies, so, fitting? HEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I am a very smiley person normally but not in portraits and NOT with longer exposures, where the smile becomes too often like a grimace. Silver umbrella on Goddard light, just using the modeling light. No filters. May your day be a good one, Thank you, Magda (*_*) I was contacted by Joni Steele Kimberlin, Producer, Director, Writer and the maker of this film/documentary, Get Real! A WINK TO THE 1930's-40's...

SUPPORT the PHOTOGRAPHER: BUY DIRECT! . Portraits became synonymous with the creation of images of elegance, style and glamour. In the 1930’s and 40’s you had the Masters like Horst and Cecil Beaton with a classic and elegant style, which is characterised by their use of studio atmosphere, silhouette, dramatic lighting and highly posed models. Their images were gelatin silver prints, gelatine is an animal protein used as an emulsion, to bind light sensitive silver salts (usually silver bromides or silver chlorides) to a paper or other support. Gelatin silver prints replaced albumen prints as the most popular photographic process by 1895 because they were much more stable, did not have a tendency to yellow, and were far easier to produce. Please let’s not start a whole debate about smoking? I am a free person and as we are constantly being dictated what we can and cannot do, where to walk, what to eat, what to wear and EVERYTHING else… this is where I draw the line. I love a cigarette (lighter than light!) in the evening, after a nice meal with a last sip of wine. it helps me to unwind and de-stress… Wishing you a stress-less day and thanx for your visit, Magda (*_*)

This was my profile portrait for months... A self portrait, Magda with a difference? When you lie down, your features change... gravity @work! I love the challenge, the buzz of 'complicated'... and beyond the obvious. Bring out the mirrors, the Pneu-Air shutter cable release... prepare for muttering the odd swear word... LOL! This is the another with the hair, change of lights, holding my beloved Nikon F4, done on the D200, because I needed to see the result immediately! Many have asked how I get my hair like this, simple and logical, I use a comb and place a mirror at an angle so I can see what I'm doing. THE AGE OF MATURITY... ALL NATURAL...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! ANOTHER ASPECT! I put this in the category "Fine Art", because it is an Art to light a portait well! I speak from experience, it took me many an 'experiment'! LOL. Every age has its own beauty, I now have the maturity and strength of character to 'go public' as I am no different to most people and do not like to be photographed, THERE IS A REASON WHY I AM BEHIND THE LENS. I wear little make-up, at a certain age, less is more! I am proud of my wrinkles! I've earned each one, through laughter and through sorrow! I am particularly happy with the 'THINKING' one between the brows... This is a plea. Please, to all those who think we all have to look like magazine models and dolls, please, stop 'plastifying' everybody beyond recognition? We are what life made us, our skin has texture (character?), it is getting so absurd that even babies and children are getting 'air-brushed'... I have said it before, I AM NOT AGAINST PP, it is the nature of the beast for the medium that is the screen. But like all good things in life, it should come with a warning "USE IN MODERATION", know when to stop and not to 'OVER'-do it? I'm curious for your opinion, I know I am of the old school, however, I see daily what is being sold .... look at Annie Leibovitz and many other Masters... I now know that the 'good' maturity comes with age, you have to go trough the process of life, the joys and the sadnesses, the good, the bad and the ugly... and you finally realise that each step takes you closer, makes you stronger... wiser! A wisdom that only comes through the different experiences. Personally, I notice I am more daring now,(not so when I was young), to say what I think, also I have become more tolerant... and more intolerant... I'm in a good place now and smile, laugh and love a lot. I could write a book on the subject, lol. Lead and enjoy a good life, do and say things that enrich... and do not forget to tell the people close to you, how much you love them! TIME TO FACE THE CAMERA...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! Is there a 'truer' quote than: BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER? We live in such a culture of 'vanity'! Where external beauty is a cult, a MUST? It has been going on for quite some time it is not new. A tomboy, I broke my nose when I was 7, had 2 nose operations when I was 18 and 19... was told I was 'ugly', aahh you are green and vulnerable at these tender ages. I had to learn and live with myself. When I was in my twenties, someone wise, told me, that I had an 'unconventional' beauty. LOL. I never liked to be photographed, because I have a 'difficult' face, not very photogenic, with that I mean, the camera does not like me very much. At some point, and with gentle persuasion of Paul, I thought it was time to face the camera. So, I put myself in the spotlight, literally. Okay, out of 100 shots maybe there are 2 that pass my test, but slowly, I get there. "Maintenant... JE SAIS", much more important things in life, love, family, friends, creativity? Ooh yes I know, however it is a not to be underestimated factor how we feel about and perceive ourselves. We are all a work in progress? How I wish I could see what you see? Look, my dears, I'm not after compliments or any reassuring, it never kept me awake at night, I am in a good place. euhhh still not keen on being photographed, haha. Taken in the studio, I had a better day, so decided to do a series of portraits. I put this in the category "Fine Art", because it is an Art to light a portrait properly! I speak from experience, it took me many an 'experiment'! LOL. This was another 'challenge' I was wearing a black jersey ... on black bg! As you can see there's black and then there's black! Every age has its own beauty, I now have the maturity and strength of character to 'go public' as I am no different to most people and do not like to be photographed, THERE IS A REASON WHY I AM BEHIND THE LENS. I wear little make-up, just enough, at a certain age, less is more! AGAIN TON SUR TON...

"The woman who survives intact and happy must be at once tender and tough."

quote by Maya Angelou, Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now (1994)

Poetry (from the Greek "ποίησις", poiesis, a "making") is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns, lyrics or prose poetry.
I survived, not quite intact, but close, very happy, I am very tender and can be very tough!
A selfportrait, trying out yet another light set-up, quite a challenge... black on black!!!!!!!!!!!

A PENSIVE ADAGIO in 2 PARTS...

I AM FEATURED HERE NOW, NEW: www.paranoias.org/2012/01/flower-photography-by-magda-indigo Living away from home for extended periods can change the way your mind works. When you go to country A, you leave your life in the Motherland at a standstill. When you return, in your mind everything is the same as the time you left. You feel the same way towards the country, you behave the same way when you go outside, carry out the same activities, meet the friends you had.. But that’s not how it is. Everyone would have moved on, places would have changed, and while you may have been best of friends at one time, you now play a minimal role in these people’s lives. The countries don’t just become different locations, they feel like different timeframes, different lifetimes, and that travel/journey I make connects these worlds together... It’s my little adventure. Both worlds seem temporary and imaginary. I’m a visitor floating about, occasionally a part of people’s lives but otherwise forgotten. I want to be anchored somewhere, but I scoff at those who dare not venture… I have uploaded images for over 8 years now, on different sites, and it is the strangest phenomenon... I too often encountered people who did not 'judge' my work... but ME?????? They instantly dislike me... WHY, HOW???? They do NOT know me, I am a very private person, it is highly unlikely that we will EVER MEET!!!! So what is it? Picasso was a womanizer, Van Gogh was, sadly, very ill and mad, Beethoven was deaf, Rembrandt went bankcrupt, was sometimes rich but mostly poor, Michael-Angelo and Da Vinci were gay... to name but a few, so what, who cares? They were brilliant Artists and we still so enjoy their fabulous work! A preference to certain pieces, yes, THAT I UNDERSTAND... I am convinced that all of this is nothing but fear (jealousy is a form of fear!!!), the only answer that makes logical sense! Time to go back to Flanders... but I have so many creative ideas I still want to finish... Taken in the studio, I had a better day so decided to do a series of portraits. Every age has its own beauty, I now have the maturity and strength of character to 'go public' as I am no different to most people and do not like to be photographed, THERE IS A REASON WHY I AM BEHIND THE LENS. I am proud of my wrinkles! I've earned each one, through laughter and through sorrow! I am particularly happy with the 'THINKING' one between the brows... THE HOPE OF THE DREAMER...

I AM FEATURED HERE NOW, NEW: www.paranoias.org/2012/01/flower-photography-by-magda-indigo I seem to have only two facial expressions? One, I am mostly smiling/laughing... my mother always said I was born smiling... When I don't smile... I look stern/sad, so I am told! But only idiots always smile, and there are moments in life that you have no reason to smile? I am the first to agree that it IS an intimate portrait, not everybody can put up something like this, however, at the moment, I am in a good place, I am coming to terms with my situation, with Paul's help. Some days are easier than others, I am sensitive to outside influences, but my creativity is more or less back! I am an optimist, with hopes and dreams. It turns out that vivid dreamers (lots of colours and details) are more creative... I found quite a few interesting quotes, that I really, enjoyed on the matter, I'll share them with you: “No dreamer is ever to small; no dream is ever to big.” “An artist is a dreamer consenting to dream of the actual world.” George Santayana “Free hope from fear and you become a dreamer” “You can always trust a dreamer. Because it's almost impossible to dream at something that you are not good at.” Taken in the studio, I had a better day so decided to do a series of portraits. This is a plea. Please, to all those who think we all have to look like magazine models and dolls, please, stop 'plastifying' everybody beyond recognition? We are what life made us, our skin has texture, it is getting so absurd that even babies and children are getting 'air-brushed'... I have said it before, I AM NOT AGAINST PP, it is the nature of the beast for the medium that is the screen. But like all good things in life, it should come with a warning "USE IN MODERATION", know when to stop and not to 'OVER'-do it? I'm curious for your opinion, I know I am of the old school, but look at other Masters... HE HE HEY... ANALYZE THIS!!!

Critical success The internet allows photographers to publish their images to a potentially huge international audience. Online systems enable them to measure the popularity of an image through seeing how often a picture is viewed or through ratings systems. But is the approval of peers, and the ratings they give, a true measure of how good an image is? The short answer is no. Inevitably when any of us interact within a community we create an online personal brand. People's reactions to a picture are influenced by the way they perceive the photographer's personal brand. Audiences often measure success in terms of expectations so that a beginner who suddenly produces a good image may be rated higher on an image than someone more experienced who consistently produces a high standard of work. So the appreciation of an image is influenced by numerous factors. How then do you know if your images really are good? Like all successful brands the best measure is in fact how passionate people are about your brand and your images. Being disliked is just as good an indication that you are making an impact as being popular. In fact the more brilliant your images are and the more passionately people feel about your photography the more likely you are to experience detractors, negative criticism and dislike. Look at the great photographers who have made a huge impact on the world. All of the master photographers have their ardent supporters and their fierce critics. The key indicator of success is not how popular your photography is but rather how passionate people are about it. For more see © Paul Indigo's blog So I say embrace negative criticism, celebrate your detractors because it shows that you are making your mark and your personal brand is becoming successful. Do not take it personal after all it is very subjective, HE HE HEY... THE FLOWER-WHISPERER...

PURPLE WEEK, FINISH… It was a good week, many enjoyed it. Started with a portrait and end with one, often in a great collaboration with Paul, here, I am looking at him... not the lens, LOL. PURPLE WEEK… FLOWER-WHISPERER?

So I asked some contacts to choose the colour for this week and purple won, what a surprise, eh? Purple is defined as a deep, rich shade between crimson and violet, or, more broadly, as a range of hues of colour between blue and red, or as a colour that is a blend of red and blue. Purple is the colour most often associated with royalty, magic, mystery and piety. Purple and violet are similar, though purple is closer to red. In 1856, an eighteen-year-old British chemistry student named William Henry Perkin was trying to make a synthetic quinine. His experiments produced instead the first synthetic aniline dye, a purple shade called mauveine, shortened simply to mauve. In optics, there is an important difference; purple is a composite colour made by combining red and blue, while violet is a spectral colour. It is the major colour that occurs the least frequently in nature. THE KIMONO... ASPECT OF WOMAN...

Another of the studio session with 'materials' I've collected over the years. It's an ongoing process that you are witnessing, the creative struggles of a photographer... This kimono is a Yukata, a Japanese summer garment. Unlike a formal kimono, yukata are typically made of cotton rather than silk and they are unlined. The colours and patterns often follow the seasons. The socks are tabi socks. Being creative is not a choice... it is an urge in me. I stand in STUNNED SILENCE for JAPAN, while my heart gently weeps!

Another I did after the terrible disasters, till this day... I know that in Japan the colour red means: Courage. This image is in honour of them, my kimono from Tokyo and my tabi socks, I know the Chrysanthemum is of great importance to them, especially White means mourning in Japan... MY TABI SOCKS... and THE FLOWER THAT TURNED INTO... PETALS

I passionately hate the idea of 'being with it', I think an artist has always to be out of step with his time. - Orson Welles I mostly wear Japanese tabi socks when I'm home, they are extremely comfortable and as I hate ANY slippers, they are much better than running around in stockings or socks. I love barefoot too... Anyway, as I was moving, holding up all the material, I looked down and thought mmmmmmmmmmmm, another shot, MUST try that? The 'struggle' of the photographer goes on! Being creative is not a choice... it is an urge in me. READ MORE HERE, new Blog: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2010/01/about-innovative-creativ... SOME WANTED TO SEE THE BACK OF ME?

LOL. The weather not good for photography here, grey dark, dingy and blustery with showers. So studio time! For some time I'd been playing with an idea, materials, statuesque, textures, striking, stark and with visual impact. It'll continue for a while, because having seen these, I now have even more ideas, so it's an ongoing process that you are witnessing, the creative 'struggles' of a photographer forever experimenting and still learning from each image whilst having fun, tee hee. ANOTHER ASPECT of WOMAN...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! MAGDA WARHOL??? LOL. I know who I am, Paul knows who I am, my sons, family and friends know who I am! Many people do not know who I am, all they see is different facets of the real me. Many get to 'know me through my images, which could be subjective in view of thyeir 'preferences' in life. One piece of the puzzle… This is the playful aspect, only one particular ‘look’, another way in which I can be viewed by the mind. The angle here of each ‘facet’ is carefully considered, as the aim is to maximize the effect of the theatrical property. Many actors relied on props and other means of support when they were being photographed. Obviously I gathered a fair number of props over the years, so, on that day: mission over, some film left in the camera, a few more 'creative'ideas, lights still on, put on a wig a pair of outrageous shades and this is the result… The one thing that is the REAL me is the small silver camera, given to me by my best friend years ago, and that I always wear. Anybody who’s ever met me, they see this jewel, they know it’s me. Just some fun… and a different 'take' on a photographer's self-portrait, who is very serious about her work but doesn't take herself too seriously, a sense of humour helps you through everything and give you the 'good' wrinkles! LOL. I wish you all a very good time, comments, likes, faves are very much appreciated. FROM MY ANGLE...

“Antoine de Saint-Exupéry quote:And now here is my secret, a very simple secret;"On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux" (It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye) I now know that the 'good' maturity comes with age, you have to go trough the process of life, the joys and the sadnesses, the good, the bad and the ugly... and you finally realise that each step takes you closer, makes you stronger... wiser! THE AGE OF MATURITY... NOTHING EVER BLACK OR WHIT

WHEN YOU FINALLY REALISE THINGS ARE NOT BLACK AND WHITE, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! I now know that the 'good' maturity comes with age, you have to go trough the process of life, the joys and the sadnesses, the good, the bad and the ugly... and you finally realise that each step takes you closer, makes you stronger... wiser! A wisdom that only comes through these different experiences. Personally, I notice I am more daring now, confident,( not so when I was young), to say what I think, also I have become more tolerant... and more intolerant... I'm in a good place now and smile, laugh and love a lot. I could write a book on the subject, haha. Get Real! Wise Women Speak, www.youtube.com/user/cowgirlfilms#p/a/u/2/vWpY0UH114I I often face a dilemma, since we entered the digital era... colour or black and white? So I am uploading both and I'm letting you decide? You know by now that I am a 'purist? Prefer proper pure photography with the, nowadays, often forgotten important ingredient: EMOTION! LET LOOSE...

Another lighting exercise in the studio. What do you do if you don’t have a model, oohh yes… do it all yourself! Set up the lights and camera..., mirror, cable-release under foot, ready... My blond hair gives me a lot of info about the lighting set-up, shows up the 'burn' areas quickly. Always trtying, learning, experimenting... Many are shy, especially photographers, why do you think we are BEHIND the camera, haha? It has given me a greater understanding of what my 'subjects' go through, that is apart from the models and those working in TV, lol! Have a lovely day and thank you for your visit and time! YIN YANG ???

Something completely different today, one of my favourite 'EYE-TEASERS'. This is a colour image! Comp in camera. Yin and yang are descriptions of complementary opposites rather than absolutes. Any yin/yang dichotomy can be seen as its opposite when viewed from another perspective. What was the first thing YOU saw? Have a gues... The 'curvy' lady in black against a white bg? Or the one in white against a black bg?? Is the white a 'bump'(pregnant lady) against a black bg? What is the reality? The solution is to follow soon... Hope this brings a bit of joy again, have a good day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

YIN YANG, ME...

Here's the solution of the previous... The original idea I had was 'the curves', Yin Yang, all I needed was my black dress(=photographer's dress code?hi hi) and a white bg. It was about perception and reality, the philosophical side of it, the way we can be 'tricked' and perceive something, but there is only ONE reality and here it is. I took the shots and looked from which one the best 'crop' would come. When I saw the results I realised there was more there, so took some more... Yin, the darker element, is passive, dark, feminine, downward-seeking, and corresponds to the night; Yang, the brighter element, is active, light, masculine, upward-seeking and corresponds to the day. SHY...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Shy: this adjective means: not forward but marked by a retiring nature, reticence, or a reserve of manner. One who is shy draws back from others, either because of a withdrawn nature or out of timidity. Something I had to fight my entire life, a lot of people are shy, especially photographers, why do you think we are BEHIND the camera, haha? It is a daily internal barrier I have to cross each time I have to go out or have to go in somewhere(especially the first time) or meet someone new,in photography a regular feature as we are like bees, and fly from flower to flower, client to client, some regulars, more often than not... once after the first time, it gets better, usually I'm fine... A MUST, because, if I work with people I have to put THEM at ease! I have learned to conceal it WELL!! LOL. EYES… SOUL-MIRRORS…

#abfav_2_together_theme MAGDA INDIGO (*_*) A lighting exercise in the studio. This is a scan of a b/w Polaroid which gives you not just the instant image but also a 4x5 negative. This image is part of an ongoing photo book project on ‘soul mirrors.’ Like most people I don’t like to be photographed, why do you think I am 'behind' the camera? hihi. I feel that very few images 'capture' the real ‘ME’. That is why I so respect it when people say NO. That is why I understand their ‘fear’ and I’m able to put them at ease. I always prefer natural light, but studio light has its advantages, anytime, anywhere… This was taken late at night, I had already tried quite a few different set-ups, wanted something different, this IS the one. Camera used: Techn Cam 4x5 Lens used: Rodenstock 180 Film used: Polaroid 55 pro neg. 4x5 The frame is natural, from the torn-off Polaroid paper. SOIE-SAUVAGE...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Another of the studio session with the materials I've collected over the years. Not only is the feel and the visual quality important, but I also like the smell of materials... This is a gorgeous piece of raw silk (soie sauvage) that I tried in a different fashion, to see in the folds how the light reflects and makes the silk shimmers and the orange glows in a myriad of tones. It's an ongoing process that you are witnessing, the creative 'struggles' of a photographer... KEEP MY HAT ON...

Another lighting exercise in the studio. What do you do if you don’t have a model, oohh yes… do it all yourself! We, photographers, do love our blacks AND our HATS, come on, own up... LOL. Most photographers seem to have some kind of 'headgear', I'm no different, this black number has protected me from snow, rain and sun... and I have protected it from the wind... and flying off into the sea or the great blue-yonder. I love the challenge, the buzz of 'complicated' (black on black?)... and beyond the obvious. Bring out the mirrors, the Pneu-Air shutter cable release... prepare for muttering the odd swear word... PHOTOGS UNIFORM?

Again a lighting exercise in the studio. Putting on my hat to say good-bye for now! We do love our blacks AND our HATS, come on, own up... LOL. Most photographers seem to have some kind of 'headgear', I'm no different, this black number has protected me from snow, rain and sun... and I have protected it from the wind... and flying off into the sea or the great blue-yonder. It's all about light. Lighting refers to either artificial light sources such as lamps or to natural illumination of interiors from sunlight. There are many general principles to lighting a subject whether it be a person, a flower, an object, animal, food or any material, however to allow for artistic effect, no hard and fast rules can ever be applied. What do you want to achieve, what’s the goal of your lighting? Here I wanted real presence through a very strong composition and high contrast for maximum impact. BEYOND THE OBVIOUS

This is Paul and my motto. Now what we mean by that is, most people will photograph something in the 'obvious' way= with the sun behind them or a gentle sidelight, the rule of thirds well observed! But, like I've said before, you can only start 'breaking' the rules IF and WHEN you know them... so, by doing that, you often take a photo in a way, through comp, or angle or tonal values that is NOT 'normal'= NOT the obvious= beyond the obvious. Most photographers seem to have some kind of 'headgear', I'm no different, this black number has protected me from snow, rain and sun... and I have protected it from the wind... and flying off into the sea or the great blue-yonder. I wanted to do a portrait with a difference, with strong contrast, BEYOND THE OBVIOUS, there are quite a few things in it that make me very recognizable to people who know me, unmistakably. It is not just through our faces that we are defined; we have many attributes that give us our identity. HAPPY DIWALI

I give you light... Diwālī is the Hindu Festival of Lights. For Jains(Bhuddists)it is one of the most important festivals, and beginning of the Jain year. It is also a significant festival for the Sikh faith. Diwali is one of the most popular and eagerly awaited festivals of India. It is celebrated for 5 consecutive days in Hindu month of Ashwayuja which usually correspond to the months of October or November. Hindus, Jains and Sikhs celebrate Diwali and use the occasion to celebrate life and strengthen relationships. Typically, celebrations focus on lights and lamps, particularly traditional diyas, although electric lights have become widespread. Fireworks may also be associated with the festival in some regions. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I brought in the garden lights ( 8 plastic tubes with LED lights inside), decided to have some fun with them in the studio again. Here I'm using 2 tubes, I tried different techniques with the studiolights. To freeze me=washed out the lights too much. So, the old (in the darkroom days with film!) joke was always... that photographers do it in the dark! Here's PROOF! A happy Diwali to All friends around the world. PARTY POPPERS...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! After a shoot, somehow there's always a couple of shots left in my film camera. I guess it is a way of unwinding to just fool around in front of the camera. We had a lot of fun, trying to coincide the pop with the shutter. We'd had a few misses and in this, the last one, we were wondering if we were going to get it right. LOL I am pleased to announce that I have a proper exhibit HERE now at this NEW prestigious Gallery in Zurich, : www.redboxgallery.ch THANX for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated. PICASSO et MOI…

I always think it is a nice and good thing, around this time of year, to stand still for a moment and reflect on a few things? I read that is ‘not a good thing’ to dwell on the past??? With that I do not agree for the simple reason that I have a lot of good and also wonderful people there, and I love to revisit! Of course I had awful stuff too, but I dealt with it, only if you haven’t is it a problem. Anyway, we also went through some ‘archives’, YES, of the ancient kind now, like test strips, negatives, wet darkroom, all things film! And Paul’s archives are an absolute treasure throve! So here are some… And for those of you who only like my flower images, look away NOW, LOL. About this double portrait, our fabulous Border Collie, Pica (R.I.P 2006) pour les amis, he was always with us, loved to be photographed (preferred alone?), Paul was continuously trying new lightings in the studio, and I was his favourite model.... I wish you all the best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. WHAT HAS YOUR CHILD DONE TODAY?

On a Sunday, in Scarborough, after walking past all the Luna Parks, amusement Casinos, restaurants, ice-cream parlours and Fish and Chips shops, the glittering lights, I came across this derelict building amongst the renovated and glorious wealth of other places like The Pavilion . On the barricaded door, this lone piece of graffiti, stencilled under it, WHAT HAS YOUR CHILD DONE TODAY?... and it instantly affected me. We had something in common, over the shoulder a piece of equipment to ‘shoot’ with! I set up the tripod with my slave camera... Situated at the bottom of the cliff above the beach where kids were playing, eating and drinking, treats and sweets. Our children have too much of what other children have too little of. A few sad facts: In the past 20 years, children under 16 have fought in at least 16 wars in 25 countries. War has claimed the lives of 2 million children in the past decade. Although international humanitarian and human rights law provide special protection to children, too many of them are caught up in armed conflict. In the UK 19,000 children a year attempt suicide - two succeed every day Nearly 1,000 children under the age of seven provide full-time care for their parents or siblings. Of the 80,000 young people who run away from home each year, a quarter are under the age of 11. The hard reality once more! We are talking about the next generations and the future, our next leaders! Yes, to stop and think is never bad, it was a moment of sad reflection for me; when I came home, I called my family, WHAT HAD THEY DONE TODAY? A CROWN OF JINGLING BELLS... ON A CHRISTMAS THEME

For December I upload images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things as you can see... Time for the decorations to come out, rediscovering old and new memories. Make the home festive, another way of being creative, goes together with the usual upset of lights not working, untangling ribbon I had so carefully packed... A number of times I'd put this 'wreath' of brass bells and red ribbon, hanging on one of our inner doors, on my head for fun (and because I'm a bit mad???), now it was serious! Crowned by the jingling bells, lol! HAVE A HAPPY SUMMER...

I think most photographers are nervous around sand. That's why you'll mostly find me 'on the rocks'... tee hee. But it had been a long time ago and seemed a great idea to go out for a day in the sand dunes along the Belgian Coast. View On Black Not the beach because my dog needed some shade, I scraped away the soft, hot top-layer of sand till I came to the cooler darker layer for him to lie on. Yesterday we went to the coast here in England, back to where we used to go, he was always with us. Filled with mixed feelings, missing him still so very much, feeling good about all the great times we had...yes...life... FUN in DUBLIN... WALL OF FAME...

A fun shot in the center of Dublin. Temple Bar is a colourful quarter in the heart of Dublin City which, almost accidentally it could be said, over the years developed a bohemian 'Left Bank' character. It is a shopping, dining, entertaining and exploring feast for the senses. On a typical Irish morning, Temple Bar wakes up to the smell of steaming espresso, the clatter of kegs of Guinness rolling off delivery trucks, and rainwater running between the cobblestones and sets down to the Liffey (the river that runs through Dublin). INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY…

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day is marked on March 8 every year. It is a major day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements. Now you all know that I am a passionate photographer. One of the reasons why I love it is that it can be so versatile, it is NOT just working in a studio, it opens all kinds of experiences, because of my job, I had a (rare) insight into many different and more unusual lives. Examples include: the inside world of BBC, both radio and TV and its people there, the introverts and the extroverts, I'll let you figure out who's who...… Universities, the professors and their advanced research and researchers… I experienced the tensions and vigilance on the bridge of a huge Ferry in one of the busiest sea-lanes in the world, the captain, his crew and their advanced technology... and another on the Irish Sea A small shrimp trawler, the hardship of fishing during the night, managed by a skipper and his mate… A veterinary surgeon performing complicated operations… Ballet dancers in their studios, showing us the tough regime and performing their art… A brief glimpse into the interesting world of travellers… The behind the scenes of a casino, where you really get the sense of drama that goes on there often, it’s a place of ‘mysterious mood’ to me… Several times travelled through Europe, in a truck, a world within our world… a world people do not know much about, day and night, monotonous drives on looooong stretches of road, and the people that transport EVERYTHING we have in our homes. As a woman, to visit and get the tour of a mosque, being shown and everything… A lady at her home, mother and wife, waiting for a ‘better’ day, so that I could take portraits of her, with her boys, her husband… because she was terminally ill with cancer… The world of horse-breeders, farmers, bikers, fish-smokers, painters, glass-artist, sculptors, singers, actors, business entrepreneurs, politicians, president and so many more... I photographed the weddings, new-borns, the deceased, the young, the’ in love’, the sad and lonely, the happy, the old, been in the presence of world-famous people… people are people to me… I enjoyed it… Yes, I enjoy it, in case you had not received that message yet, lol! There is very little, if anything, we cannot do! I want to thank the men who help us achieve and give us the opportunities to work alongside. www.flickr.com/photos/9550033@N04/5502358791/ Get Real! Wise Women Speak...official trailer (for once I was in front of the camera not behind it; a self portrait was used as a still in the film). This film fits right in! WITH MY HEAD IN THE CLOUDS...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! ... my image! LOL. And I'm an optimist! Yes, my latest flower upload was yet again 'DISLIKED'. I am no different to anybody else, I also do not like it when that happens. We all like our images to do 'well', however, I am now only here to build up some nice portfolio's, make sales, and ENJOY the inter-action with some very lovely people. Lost too many already who were fed up with the system. I am stronger, much more resilient! I work on an image, from beginning to finish, to present the public with an immaculate photo, something that I am proud of, stand by 100%... I know, after over 50 years (I started from a young age, LOL), what a quality photograph IS! And then somebody comes along... for no reason except envy, maliciousness, a flawed character, that's all I can think of? Why is that 'power' given to the wrong people? If the management of 500px see that a person misuses it, AND MUST have this... that their 'cherished system ' CANNOT work without it... do they not think they should take the dreaded button AWAY from that person??? THANX for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated. #ABFAV_FAVOURITE_THINGS_THEME I love red ‘accents when I dress in blue to black, it can be shoes, a scarf, an umbrella or back-pack… LOL a RED period! Paul took the shot, but it was my idea—> so, my shot! An English Summer’s day... Under a red umbrella, a fabulous and practical 'prop'! TAKEN in Scarborough. PEACE... LEISURE...

so my images were yet again pulled down... DISLIKED! WELL DONE, LOL, who cares? You are helping me get a lot of exposure...thanx to ALL THE "DISLIKES", LOL. I NOW HAVE 693.000 VIEWS, 55.300 LIKES AND 26.100 FAVES!!!! WOW!!! SO : the MORE you dislike, the more I upload and you eventually run out??? I have images galore! "LEISURE" What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare as long as sheep or cows. No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty's glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began. A poor life this is, if full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. By Wm. Henry Davies One of my favourite places to stand and stare... taken in Cornwall l(a 7 hrs drive from home... well worth it!), a small cove called Chapelporth. This is a self portrait, I took the shot using the D70's remote control to trigger the self timer. I placed a stone in the sand near the water's edge. Composed the shot and prefocused on the spot, I then set the self timer on my camera for a 20 second delay, which gave me just enough time to trigger the camera and run down and stand on the spot I had marked. It took me a couple of takes... View On Black (LOL see previous!), you can see the prints where I was too much to the right! MAGDA IN THE SANDPIT...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! This IS the link to a live and exclusive interview!!! I get asked so many questions every day, I thought it might be a good idea, so here goes: Best view it Large, in HD, AND it is 17 minutes!!!! Sit back and ENJOY. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u1aOqA4KdM For those who viewed it already, thank you for your feedback, lovely! Just to show you the sheer size of the sandpit where I took the images of the sand... So not just another sandscape. This was taken in a huge industrial sandpit, where they deposit sand from all over, like from the dredged harbour, winning sand from wherever they can. It is brought here, managed by huge bulldozers and special cranes. When sand is needed, like for 'refreshing' beaches or 'pumping' them up after an erosive winter or constructions of any kind, the massive trucks roll in on the metal sheets, and the sand gets transported away again. You aren't really allowed in, but those guys working there knew me by now and knew I never went too close to the 'walls', they might collapse you see, no, I always used my 28-200mm lens. I always found it a fascinating place, everchanging always full of interest. A small shrimp trawler, the hardship of fishing during the night, managed by a skipper and his mate… A veterinary surgeon performing complicated operations… Ballet dancers in their studios, showing us the tough regime and performing their art… A brief glimpse into the interesting world of travellers… The behind the scenes of a casino, where you really get the sense of drama that goes on there often, it’s a place of ‘mysterious mood’ to me… Several times travelled through Europe, in a truck, a world within our world… a world people do not know much about, day and night, monotonous drives on looooong stretches of road, and the people that transport EVERYTHING we have in our homes? As a woman, to visit and get the tour of a mosque, being shown and everything… A lady at her home, mother and wife, waiting for a ‘better’ day, so that I could take portraits of her, with her boys, her husband… because she was terminally ill with cancer… The world of horse-breeders, farmers, bikers, fish-smokers, painters, glass-artist, sculptors, singers, actors, business entrepreneurs, politicians and so many more... I photographed the new-borns, the dying and the dead, the young, the’ in love’, the sad and lonely, the happy, the old, been in the presence of world-famous people… people are people to me… I enjoyed it, did it ALL with the respect it deserves!… Yes, I enjoy it, in case you had not received that message yet, lol! There is very little, if anything, we cannot do! www.flickr.com/photos/9550033@N04/5502358791/ Get Real! TON SUR TON...

Tone on tone ... My whole life people have commented on the colour of my hair, that it looked like a field when the grain is ripe! The wind was blowing in from the sea, we were driving through these fields that only end at the crumbling coast of Thornwick bay on the beautiful North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Chasing the lovely light it looked like the perfect moment and scene. Fields of gold. You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in the fields of gold So she took her love For to gaze awhile Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold... The first two verses of the song by Sting... Giving my flowers SOUL? MORE TONE ON TONE...

When part of the garden turned pink and I wore a pink blouse. Another of my passions is flowers and over the years I had created a garden, that was low maintenance (oh yes it can be done!), but also a garden that is friendly to all living creatures. To bees and butterflies, so important in our ecosystem, ladybirds and bumblebees, frogs (they eat the snails!), a whole array of birds, squirrels, now and then even a fox runs through it… to us it was an oasis of peace and tranquillity, a daily changing tableau of beauty, all the year round. This was taken in the beginning of July when this part of the garden was just a wall of pink Lavatera with in front of it the Sidalcea and Roses, I went and stood amongst it so that you would have a good sense of proportion. IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ttLRDQ6yPI&feature=fvwrel sung by Frank Sinatra, is a song composed by Ervin Drake in 1961- Sinatra tells more than just the literal story of a life in this lyric. He tells a story, with passion in his voice, of the richness of every life, especially as a new era of instant gratification beckons. This song is a rebellion, cutting against the grain of popular thought and it defies the non-conformity, conformity taking shape during 1964 and is still going on? IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR... When I was seventeen It was a very good year It was a very good year for small town girls And soft summer nights We'd hide from the lights On the village green When I was seventeen When I was twenty-one It was a very good year It was a very good year for city girls Who lived up the stair With all that perfumed hair And it came undone When I was twenty-one When I was thirty-five It was a very good year It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls Of independent means We'd ride in limousines Their chauffeurs would drive When I was thirty-five But now the days are short I'm in the autumn of the year And now I think of my life as vintage wine From fine old kegs From the brim to the dregs It poured sweet and clear It was a very good year It was a mess of good years In my life there's been MANY good years... and lesser... that IS life... I've always loved flowers... especially wild ones... an old neg I found and scanned, BEST View On proper Black Hope this makes you smile and have a wonderful day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!)
