OLD BRUGGE…

Now for something completely different… We were in Brugge, had parked the car and took a shortcut through ‘back streets’, no tourists, quick access, the ways I used with family, born and bred from Brugge. It brings back so many memories, so many come alive again, walking with me. We heard thunder, and it was closing in, we hurried, the sky still blue but big cloud-heads appearing now and ever more thunder… we were quiet confident of escaping it, but no, on the market, we only just had time to dive into the entrance of the Belfry, and the heavens opened, lightning lit up the darkened, almost flooding market. The coaches had been uploading their passengers, the horses were nervous, the sound of hooves pounding, the heads shaking... then they were moving away, I just HAD to eternalise the eerie scene. It was a real throwback, I became this gangly blond girl again, dancing along, holding the hand of my granddad, and of my dad, so many of my family, all taking care of me… The pouring rain, the bubbles, the fighting clouds silenced their voices. I also became very quiet… Then, after 10 minutes, as sudden as it started, so sudden it stopped. People smiled, relieved, and continued their day, so did we, the moment gone, but the impact still there. Yes, we do have these moments in life? I think I captured it perfectly, the OLD Brugge. Sunflowers… Heliotropism is sun tracking...flowers that follow the sun the whole day. As the sun was shying away, I'd bought this bouquet of Sunflowers (Helianthus), to brighten up the place. SUMMER turned its back on us... Sunflower

Heliotropism is sun tracking. I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen! As the sun is shying away these days, I bought this bouquet of double Sunflowers, to brighten up the place. In the vase, this one kept turning the 'wrong' way, showing its back... so much for Summer, I thought, that's what you are telling me, your great sadness !!!!!! FOR ALL THE AMAZING DETAIL and BEAUTY, View LARGE and On Black . For years I 'experimented' in the studio, to get that Flemish painter's light? Well, I was born in Flanders, it must be in my blood? HOT... HOTTER and HOTTEST...

#abfav_yellow It was the HOTTEST DAYS in YEARS HERE, stifling, help, I am the NORTHERN type... NOT made for this! Nor are most of the flowers in the garden. Now these Teddy-Bear Sunflowers, of course they LOVE it! Heliotropism is sun tracking... flowers that follow the sun the whole day. flowers, from the garden, rain- and wind-damaged, doesn't make it less appealing to me because it's not 'perfect'! Another type of beauty... A personal favourite. Please View LARGE and On PROPER Black From my garden, a fragrant Rose, white Hebe, Yellow St John's wort (Hypericum), and some blue, bell type flowers... again ala Victoriana... WILD STRAWBERRIES…

Straight from our garden in Summer, Wild Strawberries... Smaller than store-bought strawberries, which are a hybrid of the wild strawberry and a European species, the berries are a favourite treat to many birds and animals, as well as people. They are sweet and full of flavour, but very tiny! Some a little tart. Woodland Strawberry fruit is apparently still grown on a small scale commercially for the use of gourmets. Hey we got so many maybe I should try and sell them, hihi? Lol. The 3 different stages of a plant again. WILD STRAWBERRIES... an Ingmar Bergman Movie Wishing you a fine day and thanks for your visit, as always, M, (*_*) Have a super day and thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PEACHY PEACHES…

Donut peaches, LOL Saturn peaches, Prunus persica var. platycarpa, (also known as donut (or doughnut) peaches), are a variety of peach with white flesh and a flattish, round shape. 'Saturn' peaches are smaller and flatter than a regular peach. Their skin is yellow and red, and they are usually less fuzzy than ordinary peaches. The inside of the peach is pale in appearance. They are sweeter than regular peaches] and contain less juice. A personal fave. FIELDS OF GOLD…

#abfav_summer_theme You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in the fields of gold So she took her love For to gaze awhile Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold... The first two verses of the song by Sting. My whole life people have commented on the colour of my hair, that it looked like a field when the grain is ripe! The wind was blowing in from the sea, we were driving through these fields that only end at the crumbling coast of Thornwick bay. Chasing the lovely light it looked like the perfect moment and scene. All ON THE GO…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME KINGS CROSS STATION LONDON... Springs mean travel/holiday for many, not only the birds that trek South, lol. Sitting on a low wall, waiting on Sunday noon, King’s Cross Station in London, it was stifling hot. Instead of being bored and impatient, I decided to pass the time being 'creative'... I noticed all the people hurrying by and also, especially, that EVERYBODY was lugging bags, lots of bags, of all types, colours and designs. Spotted, striped, floral, classic, coloured. I wondered, what were they all transporting? Can we not go anywhere without our ‘wheeled’ carriers? Often not one but more, backpacks, plastic, leather, designed, handbags, so many. All different, just like the people, their shoes, legs and leg wear! I saw people traveling alone, in pairs, in group, I saw them smile, I saw them laugh, I saw some cry, I saw some depressed and some tired, people of all walks of life. I saw hellos and I saw good-byes... all the emotions ... I became smilingly fascinated and eventually left feeling a great sense of joy because of this series. I feel so biased, I like them ALL, LOL, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) WINDSTILL...

#abfav_summer_theme A pinwheel, a little windmill, another prop of Summer, theses things bring back memories from deep within... your childhood... Some days I need colour!!! And today is one of them. I am spending a lot of time in the studio at the moment. A photographer friend asked an interesting question, why do YOU take photographs? One answer for me is I love the challenge, and it still and always is! Now it is with lighting, reflective objects and making it all work together the way I want it, and still be surprised, ALWAYS thrilled. How can I resist, such superb colours, another photo begging to be taken. SPANISH TILES…

#abfav_multicolour The Spanish love their glazed colourful tiles and use them on floors, on walls, inside and outside, made with great Artistry and creativity, they liven up the place and are part of the architecture. These were 4 flights of stairs, a real eye-teaser. Standing in front of it, it looked like a tall wall, I asked a model to go and sit on the first landing, free and comfortable, not posed. I have it with all the steps, but the place was surrounded by palm trees, it was impossible to get a picture without shadow, this was over the midday= the least, so I decided to go for a closer comp. BEACHED CATS…

#abfav_summer_theme Could you resist photographing such a colourful feast to the eyes? Hobie Cats are small racing catamarans used for racing and personal use. Compared to other small sailboats, Hobie Cats are appealing because they offer high performance at a relatively low cost. It seems Fuerteventura seems to be the ideal place for this. Every day the ocean was teaming... SUMMERTIME BLUES… THE NET

#abfav_summer_theme Passing an overcrowded shop with everything displayed outside, I saw this blue butterfly-net sticking out above the rest. I wanted to photograph it against the sky so had to go down, and bend and crouch and kneel to get the angle I wanted. People apparently were staring in disbelief, but when I’m composing an image, I forget about everything else! My challenge was to photograph blue on blue, I love to use the light to bring out the gossamer forms. It sings of sun and fun and wind and freedom and holiday, that small net high up catching the sun and the wind and the light and my eye… one of my personal favourites from the trip. LONELY @ THE TOP…

#abfav_summer_theme A sultry and hot Summer's day, light quite flat. The lone, yet strong tree on the top of the ridge of the hill did not look particularly big or strong, it wasn’t even leaning, no winds had bent it although this was quite near the coast of the North Sea, but no, still standing straight! LANDLINES…

#abfav_summer_theme Taken from the top of Sutton Banks. Next to it lies the 'reason for the name of 'Whitestonecliffe', the high cliffs off which the gliders take off. I saw this beautiful S-shape winding below me, the lines the neat farmers had designed, it was a MUST shot... With 27 characters Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe has the longest place name in England. THE COLOURED FIELD...

#abfav_summer_theme On our 2h30 drive to our chosen destination, Flamborough and Smuggler’s Cove, on the beautiful North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast, we passed this, in an excited rush to get there, I saw it only in a flash... We tracked back asap. I mean I've seen so many yellow fields, red fields, but NEVER a mixed field, it was humming, WILD FLOWERS more than rapeseed, I guess an eco-field? Whatever... it was a photographer's delight. A memory to behold and treasure! La Côte Fleurie...

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME TO STAND AMIDST A FIELD OF FLOWERS. We leave an already overcrowded Honfleur behind. The sky is blue, the sun is out, it looks like a glorious day. I remember from over 30 years ago that there was a small area called La Côte Fleurie, just up the Coast, South of the mouth of the Seine. Up winds the narrow road, we squeal with joy, we found it, well, blink and you miss it… a strip of field filled with flowers. Surrounded by a natural hedge of brambles and ‘wild’ roses. The silence was music to my ears, never a complete silence, a hum, a flutter, a good-night call, the wind... DONKEY RIDE ANYONE?

#abfav_summer_theme Scarborough, South-Bay beach. Donkey rides are a traditional feature of seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. Children are allowed to ride donkeys on a sandy beach for a fee in summer months while on holiday, normally led in groups at walking pace. Typically, the donkeys have their names on their harnesses so they can be identified by children and parents alike. Donkey rides have been available since 1886 in Weston Super Mare and since 1895 in Bridlington. The tradition started in Victorian times. It is now only for children. Still a massive sign of Summer! PIER-LHOUETTE…

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme GOOD TIMES Scarborough, on the end of the pier, a group of young guys had gathered for a relaxing pastime, fishing. Lovely but strange weather, I was in the sunshine, the sea mist was creeping in. The sun WON!!! And it created a magic mood, the low hanging mist, the sometimes hazy sun, all the ingredients to create a special moody light. On the other side, on the top of the cliffs, above the fog, the houses and hotels overlooking the South-Bay, basking in light, made this image quite unusual. UNE CHAUMIERE DE KERASCOET...

#abfav_holidays_theme BRITTANY... The hamlet of Kerascoët includes a series of thatched houses called Cottages of Kerascoët. The village is a typical Breton village dating from the sixteenth century, it was renovated in 1993. Part of Névez, a town in the department of Finistère, in Brittany, France. The main originality of the heritage of the village lies in the granite that was extracted from nearby quarries and of course the thatched roofs! It was used to build the houses, blocks of nearly two meters high were cut on site and erected as a wall. These standing stones are a feature of the rural and authentic Brittany. No cars allowed, a real tourist 'trap' but still interesting! Mid-Summer-window in Bruges…

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme It is always a thrill for me to return to the city where I was born. Melancholic, yes, the streets are filled with the ghosts of loved ones. I love the non-touristic places, where there is silence, where I can hear the sound of distant voices and laughter, where I can recall, the little blond girl, at the hand of a grown-up, looking up, always full of questions... But also a happy reunion and revisit of places that are so dear to me and so filled with joy and happiness. This is the Potterierei, along one of the canals, dappled sunlight flecking walls and windows, highlighting and the sunflowers inside and the cobweb. Yes, Autumn was already nearing it would seem. Have a lovely day and thank you, as always for your visits, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE GREEN NET…

#abfav_summer_theme We arrived in Scarborough just in time for the 'sweet' light. This is the first image I took at the actual harbour. An ancient cobbled ramp to roll the boats in the water, a dad with his kids, fishing... The little girl, apprehensive and not touching anything slimy, she firmly held onto her green net... Le Petit Pêcheur et son chien…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME Staithes, North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast... we had combed the beaches, the quay-sides, boats, we'd met new people and chatted, yes taken loads of images. The tide was coming in fast, the sun was getting lower... we rested out in the shade on a bench, before going for a meal, taking it all in, when this little chap in a bright yellow T-shirt, green net over his shoulder, accompanied by his faithful friend appeared in front of us... LES BOYS…

#abfav_summer_theme they were playing in the waves, and being boisterous. Well boys will be boys, wonderful! It was pure joy watching them and let so many memories echo around in my heart and soul. LES GIRLS…

#abfav_summer_theme THE SUMMER OF OUR YOUTHS… AAAHHH yes... I remember it well. These three little girls were gathering seaweed. There giggles and laughter skating across the water and echoing off the walls, sheltering the beach in this bay. The water was blue and limpid, the sun was caressingly warm, the sky was wide and clear. Life can be so good! Summertime... and the living is easy... SWEET SUMMERTIME...

#abfav_summer_theme Flamborough, Smuggler’s Cove. We chose to drive to the Coast that afternoon, because inland it was too hot and an important England football match was on, so, we knew the roads and places would be quiet... Of course there were people there just like us... When I look at my image I realise what I, as a photographer, do. Out of this whole scene with fishermen docking the boats safely (in a hurry, they wanted to see the match), sunning mums affectionately watching their sons clamber and clown around in the water, a father throwing the ball for the dog and his little girl dancing with youth, this is the scene I distilled from all that. Yes I extract, it is now a different mood, only a fraction and extraction of the reality. A personal observation, a moment that caught my interest, mmmmmmmmmmm. I was smiling, the girl and the dog were having such a great time, I included the left of the ripples, they are important. LITTLE THORNWICK BAY…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME At high tide. Thornwick Bay is located on the Yorkshire Coastline on the north of Flamborough Head near Bridlington. A headland and magnificent cliffs with two bays of shingle, pebbles and flint. The large bay is Thornwick Bay and the small one, Little Thornwick Bay. This beautiful cliff top park sits on part of Flamborough Cliffs nature reserve and is home to seabird colonies nesting on its chalk cliffs, so it’s ideal for enjoying uninterrupted sea views or spotting wildlife. A great place all year round to recharge your batteries. This was in Summer, and the last of the sun that day… All had gone quiet except for some shrieking of the gulls. I love the peace of solitude, the deafening silence, when the only ‘disturbance ‘ is the sound of the shutter. I was just standing, enjoying the quick change of light, the great beauty and then… I saw this, a MUST take image, so in harmony with my soul. Sometimes, it is ’just’ THERE. LE MONT St MICHEL...

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME Perched on a 264 feet high rock formation sits Mont St. Michel. During the seasons' highest tides the abbey is surrounded by water. During low tide the flats provide food for the world's only herd of salt water plant eating sheep (Les agneaux des prés salés), the meat tastes salty. Mont St. Michel's tides can rush in at incredible speeds. The tides in the area shift quickly, and has been described by Victor Hugo as ‡ la vitesse d'un cheval au galop, "as swiftly as a galloping horse." The tide actually comes in at 1 meter per second. Popularly nicknamed "St. Michael in Peril of the Sea" by medieval pilgrims making their way across the tidal flats, the mount can still pose dangers for visitors who avoid the causeway and attempt the hazardous walk across the sands from the neighbouring coast. The dangers from the tides and quick sands continue to claim lives. Mont Saint Michel is a small rocky island about 1 km from the north coast of France at the mouth of the Couesnon River in Normandy. The mount is best known for the medieval Benedictine Abbey and steepled church that occupies most of the 1km-diameter clump of rocks jutting out of the waters of the English Channel. THE POOL in FILEY…

#ABFAV_WATER_THEME I always am very aware of the goings-on around me. We had parked the car, when I spotted this surreal image, a boy in the middle of a ‘swimming-pool’, on the edge of the majestic escape you get in Filey. This was on our way back from Flamborough. Filey, a calm North-Sea under one of the beautiful skies of North-Yorkshire, the Heritage Coast... Filey is a small town and civil parish. Historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire, it is part of the borough of Scarborough between Scarborough and Bridlington on the North Sea coast. Although it was a fishing village, it has a large beach and became a popular tourist resort. It has an oldy-worldy feel. I wish you all a very good day and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. SMUGGLER'S COVE...

February, still the beauty that surrounds us in everything for those willing to see. I decided to upload a series of landscapes, gathered over the years. Mostly in the UK. Most of them have never seen the light of day, because my flower photography has overtaken my world somewhat. And much as I love it, my ‘other’ photography is as important to me. So, here goes. FLAMBOROUGH, probably our favourite 'haunt', the weather and colours typical 'North-Sea'... We both grew up on the Coast (different Continents!!!), with the sea, its pleasures and its dangers. This wonderful place is on the North-Yorkshire Heritage coast. You have Flamborough Head with the lighthouse, The North Landing = Smuggler's Cove, you can see where it gets its name, when the tide is out, you can get into the caves, and then, The South Landing where the Life guards have their house and boat. All within a mile from each other, three different places entirely, in the center you'll find a small village. In time you'll get to know its beauty, through the seasons ALWAYS special, its people, birds and superb views, changing with the weather, influencing the -all so important- light! The cliffs are limestone... THE LONG GOOD-BYE…

DAY 8 I stand once more in this landscape, so familiar to me, the Summer-spent earth, a row of quirky trees, a sharp church spire, the endless view over the flat land, the smell of the sea already in the air. I say good-bye, au-revoir. Time to go home, it was good to be back. ON BLUE WATER… NENUPHAR

The little winding road takes us to the Ostend-Brugge Canal, this canal flows partially in the historical bed of the Ieperlee . In the period 1618 - 1623 this old sea-gully was deepened and from Plassendale connected to the sea. From then on you could sail from Ostend via Brugge, to the interior of Ghent. The blue sky colours the water blue, and right next to a bridge over the canal, a patch of Nénuphars. Water lilies, specifically the European white water lily (Nymphaea alba). From Medieval Latin nenuphar, from Arabic nīnūfar. Monet would have put up his easel there, me… I lifted my camera to my eye. A FLANDERS VILLAGE…

DAY 8 We leave Brugge, there is still plenty of time as we only take the ferry home this evening. It is always good to drive through West Flanders, through the Polders, through the fertile flat land behind the dunes. Dotted with small villages, the church in the middle and surrounded with houses. Like a cluster. This village is Meetkerke, at four kilometers from the city of Bruges, towards the coast. DAY 4 we walk a little further, another old wall, along the canal of the Augustijnenbrug, covers with vibrant Flamenco Trumpet Vine or Campsis radicans 'Flamenco' Like the species, this vigorous, hardy climber has clusters of rich red trumpet-shaped flowers in late summer and excellent for covering walls, stumps or rock work. THE BEND…

DAY 3 I was always under the (false) impression that these canals were straight? But no, here’s a bend that leads to the siphons. Lined by trees, majestic Elms and tall Poplars. The flat landscape needed these ‘wind-stoppers’. The Damse Vaart was dug on command of Napoleon (start in 1810).  This is why it is sometimes also referred to as the Napoleon-channel.  The digging was done by Spanish prisoners of war, "descendants" of the soldiers that ruled in the Netherlands not so long before.  This channel was intended to be a part of a network of canals alongside the coast.  This would enable the French army to move around much faster and to transport supplies much more rapidly since the French marine was not match for the English navy.  The "Damse Vaart" was supposed to connect Bruges with the Schelde, but that was never accomplished because of the loss of Napoleon in battle. In the middle of the 19th century, the Leopoldcanal and the Schipdonkcanal were dug.  They stream next to each other on the territory of Damme and cross the Damse Vaart between Damme and Oostkerke.  In order to make the Damse Vaart pass the other two canals, a system of siphons was used where the two canals passed under the Damse Vaart.  Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not COPY or use any of my images on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

ROBIN HOOD'S BAY, SEA MIST...

Taken awhile back! We'd left Whitby because of the incoming sea mist. The light gone, not dressed for it on this otherwise lovely summer's day for the cold surprise that suddenly enveloped us, we decided to go inland to capture the sunset. The road took us passed Robin Hood's Bay. Now, on that part of the beautiful North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast, you drive along the top of the cliffs, you are high up, it was sunny again, we gave into the temptation and turned in, with Nature, you never know, maybe it was just around Whitby... You have to park your car above the village and walk down. Before we arrived there we wanted to let our dog out, I followed the white plume of his tail as he wandered off into a field full of wildflowers, nettles and brambles, to my amazement this was the scene that unfolded in front of my feasting eyes, the mist was already grabbing the church. I ran for my camera, back just in time for this. Underneath that thick blanket are the bay and the sea. By the time Paul got his gear out, that day he had decided on a Hasselblad-day + tripod... everything was covered in mist, yeah, sigh, when you miss it, you miss it! A CREATIVE FARMER???

On NEW MOOR ROAD… The weather was so so, however we were determined to take my new camera for a test drive! LOL We waited for the evening light, less people, although we do know ‘THE’ places! Chasing the light! Above Otley, a small beautiful Market town in Wharfedale, the ridges of the hills on both sides are great places for spectacular views and skies. Of course, the higher you go in this landscape the bleaker it gets, that is where you will find the heather and bracken (a widespread, weedy fern) on the Moors, no other vegetation. If you like solitude and 'a feeling of space', that's where you'll find it. This winding road, I was on, ends at a place called the Blubberhouses, just a few old houses and an ancient little church. Such lovely names and I'm sure all with a history! The Heather is in bloom! It is an evergreen shrub with twiggy stems, that covers our open moorland. Usually lots of heather plants grow together, forming a thick, bushy carpet, sometimes up to half a metre tall. This helps the plant to survive strong winds. It takes a special kind of plant to thrive in moorland areas, where the weather is often cold, wet and windy. Hill Sheep eat heather; in summer, as food of second choice if there is no suitable grass available; in the winter because there is no fresh grass so heather shoots are then both palatable and digestible. Sheep can eat up to 20 percent of a season’s new growth of heather shoots with no detriment to the health of the heather. Here you clearly sea the boundaries between the cultivated, lower land and the arid Moors! Where hardly anything grows. I love it when the sun and clouds play peekaboo, it makes for some magic lightly on the land, just be patient, another great virtue of the photographer! A BREAK IN THE CLOUDS…

A BREAK IN THE CLOUDS… We are driving along the border where the Dales change into Moors. Here and there some cultivated land amongst the wildness. We are chasing the light, the sky looks pretty closed, descending South now, gently towards home and then, suddenly, that break you were waiting for, that break that suddenly presents you with a beautiful image, ready for you to capture! Now I can share that with you. Thanks for viewing, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) SPECTACLE of LIGHT…

Another night another image... Does anything give as much pleasure as NATURE? From the series 'Celestial delights'. The story behind this image still makes me smile: The seaside view from the terrace of the 10th floor penthouse where we used to live. We’d had a very busy day in the studio and after a quick light meal, just sat there unwinding with a nice glass of cool Chardonnay, enjoying the fresh sea air, the nightlight, the sound of the water, when SUDDENLY, a first distant rumble and a flash of lightning. We bumped each other as we both rushed inside for camera and tripod. Set it all up, went back to our chairs and wine, and waited. I saw it moving across the sea, opened my lens and let the camera record this fabulous lightshow of Nature. With the cable release in one hand, wine in the other, yep, that’s the life, he? Mind you, this was a one off, there was no rain and no danger, just this awesome spectacle. Wonderful, great memories. Thank you, M, (*_*) PS:it must have been F11 and open for between 1 to 3 min. It's done by 'feeling', if you get a lot of flashes in the first few seconds, then, you've got your shot, otherwise, you wait and have sip of wine... This here is NOT an 'exact' science, the success depends entirely on the elements! This was the best out of three. LAST DAY of SUMMER...

taken on the beach of the South-Bay in Scarborough. We only arrive later in the afternoon, because we prefer the evening light and there are already less people. I had seen this image from the car, quickly found a parking space and walked back along the promenade, there was a hazy sunshine and a lovely soft breeze, which made it perfect. Three empty deck-chairs, end of Summer... NO? DONE FOR THE DAY…

#abfav_holidays_theme Ierapetra, Crete, an urban still-life, what an idyllic place. I missed it with people, however it takes on a different charm now. I can just imagine them sitting there, having a good old chin-wag (gossip) or tall story, under the old gnarled olive tree, with the murmur of the sea in the background, mending the nets, aahhh, wonderful... WHITBY, ALMOST BY NIGHT...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below!Whitby is a seaside town, port and civil parish in the Borough of Scarborough and English county of North Yorkshire. Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby has a combined maritime, mineral and tourist heritage, and is home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey where Caedmon, the earliest English poet, lived. We'd meandered through the North Yorshire Moors and our last stop of the day was Whitby, the sun had gone, just a golden after-glow, so very low light, I saw the coloured beach hut, I WANTED A SHOT, so: I pushed my camera. This is taken high from on the cliffs, before you enter Whitby proper. A lovely moment. Beautiful North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast! WHAT A COLOURFUL WORLD...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! In Scarborough, on the South Bay there is also a famous Spa, I'm not sure if this is part of it, but just above the beach at the bottom of the cliff, I saw the row of coloured doors, I suspect in summer these cabins you can use to get changed? I was a bit disappointed, I'd spotted them from far away, was eager and excited to photograph them, but when I got there, it didn't work out, the light had gone, there were a lot of 'obstacles', the verge, lockers, dustbins, couldn't get a good angle. Eventually walked away, looked back and saw this... It is a 'SNAP' SHOT (no, I don't do snapshot!!! tee hee) Just had the time to lift my camera to my eye, straight, and shoot before she walked out of my frame... It's ALL about colour. It works for me; I'm still smiling when I see it, hope you do too. FIELDS OF GOLD...

You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in the fields of gold So she took her love For to gaze awhile Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold... ARE YOU GOING TO SCARBOROUGH FAIR...

#abfav_holidays_theme 1. About the song: the arrangement made famous by Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair/Canticle originated in the late 19th century. Paul Simon learned it in 1965 in London from Martin Carthy and set it in counterpoint with Canticle, a reworking of Simon's 1963 song The Side Of a Hill with new, anti-war lyrics. It was the title track of the 1966 album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, and was released as a single after featuring on the soundtrack to The Graduate in 1968. 2. About the Fair: during late medieval times the seaside resort of Scarborough was an important venue for tradesmen from all over England. It was host to a huge forty-five day trading event, starting August 15, which was exceptionally long for a fair in those times. People from all over England, and even some from the continent, came to Scarborough to engage in business. The traditional 'Scarborough Fair' no longer exists but a number of low key celebrations take place every September to mark the original event. This is the children's Fair at the foot of Scarborough Castle Hill, in the evening light, next to the harbour. Scarborough, one of our favourite haunts. TIMELESS BEAUTY...

OPEN it to see how special? With film, sometimes you would have aberrations if used in more challenging circumstances, here it worked and created a very special effect.... No matter how many sunsets... each one different and fresh and rich and more spectacular than the previous one, a miracle to my eyes each time. Dusk is probably my favourite time, to reflect back on the day and look forward to the evening , the next day, the next sunset...and such, life passes... Nature at its best. This is again taken from the terrace of the penthouse we used to live in,Ostend, on the one side overlooking the sea, the other the town. Even after a full day’s work I would very much relax with a glass of Chardonnay and my camera, looking at the sea-traffic and ultimately the sunset. This is one of them. Different? MY ETERNAL FLANDERS...

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ During the festive days, I think of friends and family... on the Continent, mostly in Flanders... The bells have rung, the echoes sound The day is gone Ay, Marieke, Marieke In Flanders field the echoes sound The day is gone (excerpt fom 'Ay Marieke' by Jacques Brel) This flat, windswept land, so fertile, so mutilated in the past. The stretch behind the dunes is still, like in the Middle Ages dotted with those 'round' villages. Church and graveyard in the center, houses around in a circle, the road, often still cobblestones, meandering through it. Flanders... where I was born... It was a soft windstill evening, a beautiful silence caressed my ears, the layered fog effacing whole sections of the land from my eyes, trailing capriciously in the sigh of the sunset... I left the bottom in because that's how it was, grey and darker and lighter again. I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) Drystone walls are, with hedgerows, one of the most commonly used field boundaries in England, and help create what we now regard as the traditional pattern of field and lanes so evocative of rural England. View On Black While hedgerows are most common in the Lowland Zone, drystone walling is most often found in the Upland, Zone. It defines the landscape of Yorkshire, cuts the land like endless veins. The story I was told was that they were loose stone because of the wind, now 'whistling' through.. The roots of drystone walling as a method of enclosing fields lie at least as far back as the Iron Age. My adopted country is a place of extremes, from lush, green and fertile to barren and bleak, a beautiful part of the world, where you can come to rest and feast your eyes and replenish your soul! Hope you enjoy this story, youtu.be/2iX5id0dSnY www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u1aOqA4KdM It's true that the flowers are very fleeting, lasting in a vase sometimes only for hours. They don't wilt, but the delicate petals begin to fall quickly. To avoid this, there is something you can do. As you cut the flowers, take only the freshest. Then use a large match or cigarette lighter, holding the cut end of the stem over the flame, and let it sear the end of the stem until it's almost black. This seals the milky juices into the stem, and usually at least doubles the life of the flower in water. Even with searing, your arrangement won't last long, and you may want to put a tray or large plate under the vase to receive the red petals as they fall, and stain! In Persian literature, red poppies, especially red corn poppy flowers, are considered the flower of love. Papaver rhoeas , common names include corn poppy, corn rose, field poppy, Flanders poppy, red poppy, red weed, coquelicot in French. It is a species of flowering plant in the poppy family, Papaveraceae. ANOTHER POPPY on the FIELDS OF WAR...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! 6th of June 2013. Another D-DAY. I'll NEVER understand 'war', I cannot get my head around it, I do 'understand' the underlying quest for power, the hatred, the motives... the logistics, but not the emotions, if you know what I mean. I am always sad when I hear of lives being lost, but when you are close to it, it takes on another dimension... my heart goes out to the families. If there is to be peace in the world, there must be peace in the nations. If there is to be peace in the nations, there must be peace in the cities. If there is to be peace in the cities, there must be peace between neighbors. If there is to be peace between neighbors, there must be peace in the home. MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! We really do not appreciate enough what we have and moan too much about what we DON'T have??? All the irrelevant, superfluous bits? Material stuff? My parents lived through two wars, hunger, fear, can you imagine? 9 years of their life!!! On D-Day, 6th of June 1944, that day, 156,000 troops — 73,000 of them Americans — took part in history’s biggest amphibious landing along a 50-mile stretch of beaches supported by 6,900 vessels ships and 11,590 airplanes, according to British figures. By nightfall on June 6, more than 9,000 Allied soldiers were dead or wounded, but more than 100,000 had made it ashore, securing French coastal villages and eventually the rest of the occupied countries. At the same time American airborne troops dropped by parachute in Nazi-occupied France as the allies began a campaign across Europe that ended with Germany’s surrender 11 months later. More than 3,000 allied troops died in the first two days of the campaign to turn the tide of World War II. But just as many French civilians, caught up in the conflict, perished in the same period, according to a new study by British historian Anthony Beevor. WE OWE THEM OUR FREEDOM. SUMMER HOLIDAYS…

#abfav_holidays_theme This boy was fishing from one of the harbour walls in Scarborough... Anywhere you go in the world the same scene you will see, some in groups, laughing, joking and a bit loud... and then: the 'loner', silent and focus-intense, oblivious of the world around him! I remember the hours, ney... days, spent on the wave-breakers of my youth, first look for mussels on rocks, open it with my knife, the smell of fresh sea penetrating my nose with euphoria, knot the string, find myself a good rock pool, be careful not to make any shadow, as not to scare them, carefully lower the bait and patiently wait for the crab to come out and put its claws well around the mussel, haul it in, and put it in my bucket with the others. Return them to the sea before I went home, maybe to be caught again tomorrow? The long, lovely Summer holidays… LOL, thanks, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A MOTHER'S LOVE... FOR ALL MOMS.LOL

A MOTHER'S LOVE... A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper, and handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his Mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said: For cutting the grass: $5.00 For cleaning up my room this week: $1.00 For going to the store for you: $.50 Baby-sitting my kid brother while you went shopping: $.25 Taking out the garbage: $1.00 For getting a good report card: $5.00 For cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00 Total owed: $14.75 Well, his mother looked at him standing there, and the boy could see the memories flaashing through her mind. She picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on, and this is what she wrote: For the nine months I carried you while you were growing inside me: No Charge For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you: No Charge For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years: No Charge For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead: No Charge For the toys, food, clothes, and even wiping your nose: No Charge Son, when you add it up, the cost of my love is: No Charge. When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight at his mother and said, "Mom, I sure do love you." And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote: "PAID IN FULL". Lessons: You will never how much your parents' worth till you become a parent! MOTHER'S DAY, in the UK! Be a giver not an acquirer, especially with your parents. there is a lot to give, besides money. COZ MONEY IS THE WORST WAY OF MEASURING HAPPINESS... I'VE GOT MY EYE ON YOU...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! More from St Ives in Cornwall. After a long 'photo'-walk all along, we ended up on the harbour-wall, it was still lovely in the sun, I'd walked up to the end, to the lighthouse, looked over the side and there I saw THE SEAL!!! First time ever I saw one in FREE nature, so very beautiful... I felt like jumping up and down, but stayed calm, not to scare it. By now a whole group of people were looking on as delighted as me. It suddenly snorted and dived under, completely out of sight only to reappear a bit further... Life can be so wonderful, sometimes through 'small' and unexpected happenings. FALMOUTH WORKING BOAT, St-Mawes Cornwall...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! As we arrive there, the ancient boats thunder around the Cornish waters at St Mawes, as they hosts one of the colourful Falmouth Working Boat Races. The Falmouth Estuary has long been a traditional centre for these events with each community along the waterfront The Falmouth Working boat fleets still race and have done so for over 100 years. Between the quiet yet imposing forts of Pendennis and St Mawes lie the glistening waters of the Fal Estuary. It is one of the best all-round sailing and safe cruising grounds in the world. One of St Mawes' annual highlights is the Falmouth Working Boat World Championships hosted by the village. It sees the estuary erupting in a whirl of coloured topsails as these boats, the wooden working boats from the 1870/80s, many of them antique, battle it out to be the best in their fleet. The working boats themselves are something of a legend around the Fal Estuary. A bylaw of the Fal oyster fishery - that fishing may only be done while rowing or sailing (usually under full sail, no engines!) - is largely responsible for the preservation of the fleet. It was pure magic to see them cut through the water. MASTER & COMMANDER...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Master and Commander is a historical naval novel by English author Patrick O'Brian. The 2003 film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, with actors Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany, was made using themes —but not the plots— from the book Master and Commander and other books in the series, including "The Far Side of the World". At a gathering of tall ships from all over the world. This is how it came out on film, no manipulation. Taken at (ROUGH) sea, looked like these were manoeuvring and preparing for battle. Although I am a very careful person, accidents do happen, I lost my 400mm Nikon lens on that trip... it fell overboard, in one 'glup' I saw it disappear... shrimps and crabs must be having a ball with it, I hope... FULL SAIL AHEAD...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! More ADVENTURES of a photographer! So, I heard there was to be one of the biggest gatherings of tall-ships from all over the world, a W-E, culminating with a parade on the Sunday. It being Summer, I knew there'd be thousands of people. I approached a friend, a yachtsman, who loved the idea of taking us there. Sunday morning came and, cameras 'spic and span' and ready, off we sailed. Ideal weather, once out of the harbour it became a bit choppier but that's the North-Sea for you. About two hours into our voyage, I thought I'd take a few shots of passing vessels, because it was obvious that thousands were going to be on the water as well. I changed lenses, and I promise you, I'll never forget that sound of my 400mm plunging into the water. It happened soooo fast, I had checked and yet somehow... I saw it disappear, just leaving a few ripples for a few seconds. I bet the sea-life are enjoying the new 'cinema'? It was at HIGH AND ROUGH sea... by the time it registered... we were already a boat-length further! Mind you, I DID think about 'going' after it (being a deep-sea diver, but no gear here!).sanity prevailed, I did not tell anyone on board, it would have spoilt it for all, I was so shocked I was not up to any cooing, so straighten up and carry on. I did fall into Paul's arms when we returned, crying when I told him that evening.. An hour later we bobbed amongst all the other boats, full of anticipation, when they started to appear one after the other, passing us, people like ants on the masts and riggings. I was in photographer's heaven. Everywhere I looked I saw shots and as we got into later afternoon the light became more interesting, I was excited. We sailed alongside this one till we reached the sea and there, this magnificent ship, deployed all it's glory, ready to sail back home. WHAT HAPPENED HERE? THE BEAUTIFUL REFLECTION?

UM-PAPA... for reflection DAY...

REFLECTION of the DAY! Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. - Ralph Waldo Emerson American writer (1803-1882) It is a well-known fact that England is a land of traditions and proudly so! Due to the faster pace and changes in the current times, many are finding it harder to keep going. Society is changing more rapidly than ever. So it was extremely pleasant, that summer, to discover that in the many parks, in and around the area where we live, every Sunday afternoon, brass bands were to give concerts! ...but it was rather melancholic to hear that, oooh, so specific sound and the old sweet tunes floating through the leaves as the rains started. People sought refuge inside the small caf, while quite a few listeners brought out their raincoats and umbrellas, and stoically stayed put, like the band, who kept on playing! REFLECTED FAMILY PORTRAIT... FOR REFLECTION-DAY!

All of life is made up of nothing but todays. - Frank A. Clark American writer (1911-1991) A Sunday afternoon, Yorkshire, Summer in the parks... Brass bands... particularly linked with the northern English manufacturing towns of Lancashire and Yorkshire. We had family visit from the Continent and took them along. In the second park, we arrived later, so only found a place to sit at the back, behind the band. After quite a few shots, I saw this one, a Tuba player from The Harrogate Band AND our 'colourful reflections' in his instrument, I knew what I was going to do with it! This is the result... LOL FOR ALL THE LOVELY DETAIL AND THE GREAT EXPERIENCE: VIEW LARGE AND On properBlack The tuba is the largest and lowest pitched brass instrument in a band. It means that you can summon me back to your mind even though countless years and miles may stand between us. L'ETE INDIEN…

#abfav_films_songs https://youtu.be/BT_ZQdY0h8o by JOE DASSIN THE RUSTLE OF THE REEDS... By Monday the weather had gone blustery, a North-Wester was snapping, we enjoyed another drive along small winding roads in the country-side of Le Plat Pays, my Flanders. It is so fabulously flat and far-stretching, the meadows and fields seamed off by the water-sucking willows, pruned again and again in their particular way, so that they form a 'knobbly' head. The dividing water canals are festooned with waving slender reeds, they inspired many a poet, none more than Guido Gezelle: O 't ruisschen van het ranke riet ! When the wind carries you over And bowing moves yours stalks You bow, humbly silently down, Rise and humbly bow again and sing, all the while bending, the sad song That I love, O slender reed! ) This is very Flemish! OMINOUS in HOUTAVE...

#abfav_yellow Between Ostend and Bruges, behind the blond sand dunes, just off the Old Road, there is this village, Houtave... Medieval and traditional in concept, the church in the middle, surrounded by the graveyard, then the circle of houses with the happy red roofs, and wider still the farms. When we were there the land was lying, spent, just stubble left after the harvest of waving golden cornfields, the ominous sky more and more pregnant with rain, the sun still in and out, behind us, brushing in patches of light. The corn was golden-ripe, I had been taking 'close-ups', when I spotted him, yes I have finally been able to get him in a red jacket, after all these years, now it's MY turn to put a 'figure in a landscape', tee hee. It is such a good illustration of what different lenses do, here you have the compression of the telephoto lens which makes the sharp corner of the field almost look like a straight line. OF HAY and FRANTIC FARMERS...

This was taken in Flanders, my 'Flat Country' We meandered back from Bruges, along the narrow winding little roads, amongst the fields of wheat and barley. The weather had been hot and humid the whole day, you could sense the smell and pressure of thundery storms coming closer as the wind picked up... Everywhere we looked, farmers were working frantically on their fields, desperate to get the harvest in safely, the hay bales being made packed to keep dry. Here they make them into rectangles, they stack easily in the roofed open barns, next to the farms. Not long after that, the rain started, with drops clattering on the car windows like pound coins... HAY, HAY, HAY...

THE START of our adventures in FRANCE. 1. We have our basis in Flanders, the ‘FLAT COUNTRY’ when we go to visit the Continent… Mostly we stay for 8/10 days. It is a mad rush from family to friends… doing our lovely round, it is NEVER enough, so that Summer we decided on 18 days, and the promise that we would have not just a ‘visit’ but also a proper holiday. France was the chosen destination, we were going to visit Burgundy, however, the weather was very hot, so we changed our plans and headed for Normandy and Brittany, the ‘cooler’ Coast. In half an hour we drove across the border into the North of France, French Flanders, Already the landscape started to change, hills beginning to roll… Everywhere the fields had been ‘shaved’, the bales waiting to be collected, scattered over the golden fields… I spotted this, probably owned by a more ‘meticulous’ farmer?TREAT YOURSELF,View On proper Black For the whole story: magdaindigo.blogspot.com/2009/09/start-of-our-adventures-... ANSWERING THE CALL...

Bridlington, a blustery afternoon, we had been photographing in the relative ‘calm’ of the harbour, when we suddenly heard a couple of very loud bangs. Fireworks? During daylight? On a normal weekday? Anyway, we rushed to our car where Pica, our Border Collie was, knowing how nervous this would make him. We’d parked on the promenade, and that’s where we saw the commotion, people running and appearing from everywhere. The whole scenario deployed in front of our eyes, the men, pulling on their yellow oilskins whilst on the move, the tractor that would pull the boat into the sea already waiting, the sky filled with screeching seagulls. It was eerie. You feel a chill in your bones, you see the turbulunt sea, you hope and pray that all will go well and they will return safely. We never found out what happened... About The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, an interesting and FUN read! The RNLI is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland. The volunteer crews give up their time and comfort to carry out rescues in difficult and often dangerous conditions. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboats have saved more than 137,000 lives. The direct cost of launching a lifeboat is relatively small since the crew receives a few pounds expenses for a call out and the only other cost is the fuel. What keeps the costs up are the stores, station and boat maintenance and the other costs involved. There are exercises, training sessions and the relief fleet of 130 boats nation-wide these all add bit by bit to those costs. Anyone who has owned a boat will tell you that sometimes the cheapest part of the operation is the buying of the boat, after that there is always something which needs paying for. A lifeboat can seem to do nothing for weeks and then there is a flurry of activity and it earns every penny of its costs. The coxswain is in charge of the facility and is responsible for directing the safe navigation of the boat, the activities of the crew, and the performance of the missions. Skills of a qualified coxswain include navigation, piloting, boat handling, communication, search planning, and emergency procedures The men and women volunteer crews can be anyone (the butcher, the baker) and encounters with them have been known to suggest that they are very rude people. There is little which is more disconcerting than talking to someone who, in mid conversation, suddenly runs away from you.Don't worry they've probably just had a 'shout' by the maroon (a type of rocket) which would go off with an almighty bang and everyone knew what that meant: they are needed for the lifeboat; there are people in danger at sea! KITESURFING…

#abfav_summer_theme A kiteboarder harnesses the power of the wind with a large controllable power kite to be propelled across the water on a kite-board similar to a wakeboard or a small surfboard, with or without foots-traps or bindings. Kitesurfing is a style of kiteboarding specific to wave riding, which uses standard surfboards or boards shaped specifically for the purpose. There are different styles of kiteboarding, including freestyle, free-ride, downwinders, speed, course racing, jumping and kitesurfing in the waves. It looks wireless/cordless? LOL Hope this makes you smile and have a wonderful day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) AIR-SEA-BEACH…

#abfav_holidays_theme We were definitely on an island in the Atlantic, Fuerteventura, the oldest Canary Island, and formed about 70 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity. Fuerteventura’s modern landscape is a result of the weathering of the original landscape that was created by the volcanoes. Though you will not find an active Fuerteventura volcano, there is abundant evidence of their presence in the topology of the island. Fuerteventura is the most easterly of the Canary islands and is only 60 miles from the coast of Morocco. The geographical position of Fuerteventura means that for many tens of thousands of years sand from the Sahara has been deposited on Fuerteventura's shores. The result of this process is 125 miles of some of the world's best beaches. #abfav_multicolour The sun was going down still a lovely afterglow, the people driving home still smiling after a lovely day, the lights came on to work for the night, shops and attractions were closing down grateful for a well-earned rest, DONE FOR THE DAY... ENTER THE NAUSIKAA...

View On Black Enter the Nausikaa, a ship we had the pleasure of sailing quite a number of times. A 3 mast Clipper, 54m, a combination of beauty and modern technology, she was built in Poland, now somewhere in The Mediterranean, mostly Greece, the owner got tired of the unpredictable North Sea weather. I took a lot of images, have very fond memories of her. This is the first in the series... This was taken from the other side of the harbour as she sailed in, a second later, the sails were down!!! AN S.O.S... THE GHOSTSHIP NAUSIKAA...

PLEASE READ THIS AND SPREAD THE WORD????? You may have noticed that I did not upload images of The Nausikaa with people? Of course I have the different Skippers, the owner and many others. It was difficult to take images without people, there were ALWAYS many on board! There was a reason! I AM SENDING OUT AN S.O.S. Here is the sad story... As I wrote on the first image, this clipper was built in Poland, by a Belgian. Partly paid, she sailed when finished, to Ostend, in Belgium, where we encountered her. She was there for 2 or 3 Summers. Then disappeared. We enquired and were told the owner was sick of the unpredictable North-Sea weather and had sailed her to Greece. Some time later we heard her name was changed... About 1 1/2 years ago, I was contacted by the builder of the Nausikaa, he'd googled the name now and then, still hoping to find her where-abouts and recupe his money. He'd found my series of photos with great joy... and also hope. We told him all we knew, sent him all the info we had. Last he had heard, that she was last seen in The carribean Seas... AND THAT THE OWNER(?) HAD SUNK HER!!! A 3 mast Clipper, 54m long. 500px.com/photo/12106143 SEE HERE If anybody knows where this beauty is, or ever encounters her, please contact me via our website. www.indigo2photography.co.uk I thank you, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) OF ROPES and PEGS...

WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR...

#abfav_summer_theme Early Summer in Bridlington, on the North East Heritage Coast, while Paul was enjoying his fish and chips (a MUST when you go there), I was 'people scanning'. Now I had spotted this couple earlier, sitting in the sunshine on the wall that separates the sea from the harbour, chatting and eating something. Picking up my camera, they started to walk away, she still eating her cream bun, giving him her handbag to carry. I was *$?&^%, aah for 2 seconds more!!! I took the shot anyway. The words of this Beatles song swirled through my head: When I'm 64 When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now, Will you still be sending me a Valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine? If I'd been out 'till quarter to three, would you lock the door? Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I'm sixty-four? Etc… When I developed the film and saw this one, yes, another ‘difficult’ neg I think I came away with a better shot. Circumstances, he? And remember, a great photograph is mostly about emotion (in my book anyway). Thanks and have a happy day, Magda, (*_*) Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

My preferred lens was the Nikkor 28-200mm, now the 18-200mm I also work with a Nikkor 75-300, love the compression. With the NikKor 60mm Macro, I have a love/hate relationship. I love the results but I do not enjoy working with it. The 85mm is fantabulous for portraits. The 24mm is a superb wide-angle. My preferred film was Fuji Pro(400). I try to use flash AS LITTLE as possible. I often work with one or more reflectors. I only use a tripod if I HAVE to. HIHI, lol Now of course, things have changed over the years, practically all digital, I love my Nikon D200 and D7000... unless a client requests a specific camera like Hasselblad, or even film... but the lenses and preferences remained the same! We often sailed on this tall ship, a modernised three-master CLIPPER (see in my photostream), called the Nausikaa, she had so many lovely features.
