PHOENIX daffodils

#abfav_yellow PHOENIX daffodils Every year, the same bulbs, after their Winter-sleep, burst open and produce those lovely fresh flowers again and again, like a Phoenix... The Belgian € 10 silver coin, commemorating sixty years of peace, depicts the Phoenix as a representation of a new Europe, post 1945. THE BOUQUET OF SPRING EXPLOSION, NARCISSUS.

Narcissus possibly derived from ??? (narke) meaning "sleep, numbness," in Greek mythology was a hunter from the territory of Thespiae in Boeotia who was renowned for his beauty. He was exceptionally proud, in that he disdained those who loved him. Nemesis saw this and attracted Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection in the waters and fell in love with it, not realizing it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus died ... These here, nice double plump blooms, are a fragrant variety. I (maybe wrongly) make a distinction, based on that fact, between Daffodils and Narcissus... After a Winter-sleep... they are back! I thank the growers for giving us this promise of things to come. It makes it more bearable eh? When in your home: Spring is already in thyme air? And it is snowing outside? LOL Tazettas are floriferous or bunch flowering daffodils: they produce several blossoms per stem, at a minimum three or four. However, clusters of eighteen or even twenty are not rare. In addition, Tazetta Daffodils almost always have a very sweet, musky fragrance, for which they are deservedly prized. LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS...

The Rite of Spring, commonly referred to by its original French title, Le Sacre du Printemps, is a ballet with music by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, original choreography by Nijinsky, under impresario Serge Diaghilev. THREE CHEERS… DAFFODILS

I'm in full communication with the flowers again, they talk... I listen, with my eyes. It is said that: Art is Expression of the imagination............ Tete-a-tete is one of the most popular dwarf daffodils. Standing at only 15cm (6in) high. Available in the shops from now on to brighten up a room and enthral us with a slight fragrance of Spring. Like Phoenixes, they stand, erect. Every year, the same bulbs, after their Winter-sleep, burst open and produce those lovely fresh flowers again and again, like a Phoenix... The Phoenix has long been presented as a symbol of rebirth, immortality, and renewal. The Belgian Euro 10 silver coin, commemorating sixty years of peace, depicts the Phoenix as a representation of a new Europe, post 1945. ANOTHER STAR IS BORN...

LA COLORETTE de NARCISSE Narcissus was a hero in Greek mythology ... Seamus Heaney references Narcissus in his poem "Personal Helicon" from his first collection "Death of a Naturalist": "To stare, big-eyed Narcissus, into some Spring Is beneath all adult dignity." YELLOW FOR HOPE AND JOY...

They have a LOT OF MEANING! The daffodil serves as the national flower of Wales. One species, Narcissus obvallaris, grows only in a small area around Tenby. In Wales it is traditional to wear a daffodil on Saint David's Day (March 1). The flower is a common decoration flower during Chinese New Year. March 1: The Sharp Days This was considered the first day of the year in Venice and in Russia until the fourteenth century. It was also the first day of the Ottoman financial year. The Greeks say that good weather begins on March 1st. Supposedly, a thread left out overnight on a rosebush, then tied around the wrist or big toe will protect the wearer and is worn until Easter Day. St John Chrysostom complained of this custom (see March 22) and that of tying bells on children to protect them. In the Dodecanese and elsewhere, children go around with the effigy of a swallow singing a song in honor of the bird and the fine weather it brings and asking for food offerings. This custom derives from ancient Rhodes. The first three days of March are called Sharp Days: One should not wash clothes (for they will wear out), chop wood (or it will rot) or bathe (for one's hair will fall out). March 1 Baba Marta’s Day Before the first day of March in Bulgaria, people give each other martenitsas (or martenkas), red and white wool tassels, sometimes with a gold or silver coin attached. William Wordsworth's short poem "I wandered lonely as a cloud" has often become linked in the popular mind with the daffodils which form its main image. Various Cancer Societies around the world use the Daffodil as fundraising symbol. "Daffodil Days" are organised to raise funds by offering the flowers in return for a donation. Overall, I think it sends such a strong sign of hope, Spring is today here, the Earth is moving again! I could not resist photographing those orange and yellow mini trumpets, challenging as they were! Giving my flowers SOUL? A WHIFF of SPRING...

The lights and glittering bling all stored away again. The room sounded ‘empty’ and hollow. The days are mostly dreary, so, I need something uplifting. What better than bringing the brightness and fragrance of Spring flowers home? These are all grown from bulbs. Blue Hyacinths and dwarf Daffodils... The fragrance is heady, the sight pure visual pleasure, good for one's senses... I prefer taking 'uplifting' images...life is tough enough, there is more than plenty of 'darkness' and 'Angst'... I am not 'hiding' from reality, only refuse to ONLY live with 'that', I want to show there IS still 'ANOTHER', beautiful, side to it... for those who care to look? Hope this brings a bit of joy again, have a good day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) A WHISPER IN SPRING...

I think most of you know by now how I love to photograph flowers in the studio... playing with lights, reflectors, flags and cytters, bringing them to live...giving them soul? A distant memory it seems already...two of the 'first' flowers in the garden, a Muscari and a Dwarf Daffodil Tête-à-Tête, I arranged them so that it looked like they had something 'intimate' to whisper... AAAHHH, IMAGINATION... IMAGINE... Thanx for your visit and comments, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) SPRING EXPLOSION, NARCISSUS…

Narcissus possibly derived from ??? (narke) meaning "sleep, numbness," in Greek mythology was a hunter from the territory of Thespiae in Boeotia who was renowned for his beauty. He was exceptionally proud, in that he disdained those who loved him. Nemesis saw this and attracted Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection in the waters and fell in love with it, not realising it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus died ... These here, nice double plump trumpets, are a fragrant variety. I (maybe wrongly) make a distinction, based on that fact, between Daffodils and Narcissus... After a Winter-sleep... they are back (in the shops)! Narcissus: The term narcissus refers to a genus of bulbs that includes hundreds of species and literally tens of thousands of cultivars! The Narcissus genus includes daffodils, jonquils, and paperwhites, among many others, so when in doubt, this is the term to use. I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stamens their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour.
