MERVEILLE… Carnation, ala VICTORIANA

Some scholars believe that the name "carnation" comes from "coronation" or "corone" (flower garlands), as it was one of the flowers used in Greek ceremonial crowns. Carnations are often worn on special occasions, especially at weddings. At the turn of the century dandies would not leave the house without a white or red carnation in the buttonhole of their suit. With the end of this tradition and the fact that carnations are so easily cultivated and grown, the flower has lost some of its popularity. Although apparently in the UK it is still the most sold flower However, carnations are not only beautiful and long lasting flowers, they also send a message. When you receive a red carnation bouquet, it means, "My heart aches for you" and when you receive white carnations the sender is saying: "I am still available." For the most part, carnations express love, fascination, and distinction. PINK QUADRILLE...

Swirling around... ”You must have chaos within you to give rise to a dancing star.” - Friedrich Nietzsche For the most part, carnations express love, fascination, and distinction, though there are many variations dependent on colour. *Light red carnations represent admiration, while dark red denote deep love and affection. White carnations represent pure love and good luck, while striped (variegated) carnations symbolise regret that a love cannot be shared. *Purple carnations indicate capriciousness. In France, it is a traditional funeral flower, given in condolence for the death of a loved one. In France and Francophone cultures, carnations symbolize misfortune and bad luck. *Pink carnations have the most symbolic and historical significance. According to a Christian legend, carnations first appeared on Earth as Jesus carried the Cross. The Virgin Mary shed tears at Jesus' plight, and carnations sprang up from where her tears fell. Thus the pink carnation became the symbol of a mother's undying love. *Carnation is the birth flower for those born in the month of January. The formal name for carnation, dianthus, comes from Greek for "heavenly flower"! Here, these four are surrounded by 'Baby's Breath', Gypsophila, of the pink family (Caryophyllaceae), they have profuse small blossoms. A perennial, they are cultivated for their fine misty effect in rock gardens and flower borders and in floral arrangements. They are native to Eurasia. Giving my flowers SOUL? THE STORY of THE FALLEN CARNATION...

OOPS, previous disliked AGAIN... For your Funday? LOL. Passing through the beautiful Victorian Covered market, I went to say hello to the flower seller, he knows me very well by now... I bought some flowers, I saw this lovely pink carnation lying on the ground, he said I could have it, it was just the head that had broken off from a big expensive bouquet. When I came home, I saw it had some drops on it, rushed to the studio, et voila... another flower-shot! Some people rescue animals... me.. it seems to be flowers, well they often 'repay' me for a few days, and once photographed, they're 'erternalized, he? Giving my flowers SOUL? WE'RE IN THE PINK!!!

Pink carnations, I know that in the 'photography " art" rules' things are 'supposed' to come in three, five, best uneven... Why should I agree? And I don't, it all depends on the circumstances, the subject, the composition, aach, just call me weird and an individualist, I like that, lol! There are enough sheep in the world... Nowadays, “to be in the pink,” usually means to be in top physical condition, but in Shakespeare’s time, “pink” meant something like “epitome” or “pinnacle of perfection.” Giving my flowers SOUL? PRETTY IN PINK… Carnation

This mini Pinks are scented seasonal delightful blooms that we absolutely love. Pinks were prized by the ancient Greeks who actually created the name Dianthus, meaning God’s or Zeus’s flower, but they have also been known by other names. Chaucer, wrote about them in the mid 14th century calling them ‘girofle’ meaning clove, and though you don’t often hear that name today, you can still sometimes hear them referred to as ‘gillyflower’. They have everything: great fragrance, super colours, they are good for cutting, flower for long periods, are attractive to bees and butterflies and are slug and rabbit resistant. FLOWERS OF LOVE... CARNATIONS

SUPPORT the PHOTOGRAPHER: BUY DIRECT! What is delicate, durable, and delightful all in one? The carnation , scientifically known as Dianthus caryophyllus. With its scientific name dianthus roughly translating to “flower of love” or “flower of the gods”, depending on the source, this flower is one that has been revered for centuries. One of the world’s oldest cultivated flowers, the carnation is appreciated for its ruffled appearance, clove-like scent, and extended blooming period. The carnation’s history dates back to ancient Greek and Roman times, when it was used in art and decor. The meanings of carnations include fascination, distinction, and love. Like many other flowers, different messages can also be expressed with the flower’s different color varieties. Light red carnations, for example, are often used to convey admiration, whereas the dark red version expresses deeper sentiments of love and affection. White carnations are associated with purity and luck, and pink carnations are often given as a sign of gratitude. In the early part of the 20th century, carnations became the official flower of Mother’s Day in addition finding particular significance in many other cultures worldwide. To this day, carnations remain a favorite flower choice for many different occasions. They are immediately recognizable flowers, and they possess a charm and allure that continues to captivate people around the globe. In fact, in many parts of the world, the popularity of carnations surpasses that of any other flower including roses. The powerful sentiments these flowers can express are a perfect complement to their classic beauty and long-lasting freshness. By retaining its status as a floral mainstay for such a long time, the carnation has proven itself to be a lasting flower in more ways than one. SWEET WILLIAM FLOWERWORKS…

Dianthus barbatus (Sweet William) is a species of Dianthus, small Carnation, native to the mountains of southern Europe from the Pyrenees east to the Carpathians and the Balkans, with a variety in northeastern China, Korea, and south easternmost Russia. The flowers are produced in a dense cluster of up to 30 at the top of the stems and have a spicy, clove like scent; each flower is 2–3 cm diameter with five petals with serrated edges; in wild plants the petals are red with a white base. In the Victorian language of flowers, Sweet William symbolises gallantry. Sweet William is a good candidate for a naturalistic garden because its nectar attracts birds, bees and butterflies. Its flowers are considered edible... THESE HERE LOOKED LIKE FIREWORKS TO ME! I love them because of their unbelievable 'variety', both in colours and variegations! They last a long time in a vase, real beauties, all the best and thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE, visit here:www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) Imported from Belgium... I forgot to ask the name, from the fragrance and the leaves, it seems to be a Carnation... must be new, cannot find any info on it! Anybody??? I loved working in my studio again, brought back a few things that just could not wait... lol. “When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.” Georgia O'Keeffe quote (American Painter, 1887-1986) Giving my flowers SOUL? TIDDELY-OM-POM-POM... Green Trick ‘Temarisou’.

"Tiddely-om-pom-pom!" is a line from the song: I do like to be beside the seaside... Bred by Hilverda kooij in Holland, and winner of countless awards last year is a stylish Dianthus barbatus called Green Trick ‘Temarisou’ First, this is not a true carnation at all (Dianthus caryophyllus) which I thought it was judging by the leaves and stems but rather, it is a Dianthus barbatus cultivar, or Sweet William. But a Sweet William that looks more like a ball of moss? As far a cut flower trends go, this amazing new variety is a terrific example of how plant breeders are focusing on new lifestyle flowers that meet the needs of today's new consumer. Short, modern containers with dense mounds of spiky green is exactly what stylists and hip florists are looking for. There IS a trend in EVERYTHING! Three cool green pom pommy things are as sexy as, well, green pom pommy things? THANX for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated.
