IRIS… IRISSIME

Since Iris is the Greek goddess for the Messenger of Love, her sacred flower is considered the symbol of communication and messages. Therefore the flower iris in the language of flowers symbolises eloquence. A purple iris is symbolic of wisdom and compliments. A blue iris symbolises faith and hope. A yellow iris symbolises passion while white iris symbolises purity. As you can see, the gift of iris can be used to convey many emotions. Dutch irises are hybrids of two older varieties, giving it a look all its own. The distinctive ‘fleur-de-lis' flowers come in a variety of blues, yellows, purples, and white. Organic, sensual, all about shape and colour. The Iris is just born elegance... extremely ephemeral, they barely last a few days, yet with unbelievable beauty and style. Best to leave them in the garden... like so many of the bulbs! Wishing you a colourful day and thanks for commenting, always appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) ALA MICK JAGGER…. IRIS

Iris’s tongue. LOL Iris, the palest blue I ever saw. Dutch iris are popular with florists and home gardeners because they are dependably pretty and easy to use. Long, strong, straight stems pair with blooms that are an ideal size for medium bouquets. YOUNG TAKES OVER… IRIS

Iris often have two flowers on one stem. And it is only when the first one fades that the new bud blooms. Here was a vigorous youngster dominating and pushing the first one out… C'est la vie. SACRE BLEU, A DEUX! IRIS...

Sacre bleu is an old French profanity, meant as a cry of surprise or anger. I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen, with my eyes! Beautiful Blue Iris, with petticoat petals, unfurled and being hit by light!!! Sacre bleu, they exclaimed, with surprise!!! THAT was when I hit the shutter! ME and MY BUD… IRIS

White Iris, lightly tinged with yellow. It speaks of purity, simplicity, graphic minimalism. All and just about the flower-shape in its beginning stage, just before it unfurls, and that it did, under the warmth of the studio lights, you’ll see. Not only is the iris a beautiful flower, but also they have several uses. As a live plant they are used as a water purifier. They are ingredients in some perfumes, homemade toothpaste, pottery and herbal medicines. The stylised iris, fleur-de-lis, descends from the white iris which is native to Florence, Italy and which grew even in its city walls. Catherine de Medici carried this symbol of Florence to Paris when she married the king of France where this most famous of irises acquired its nickname, fleur-de-lis. The iris has been associated with France as Louis VII adopted it as a symbol in the 12th Century. ABUNDANCE… IRIS

MARCH—> month of HOPE, beauty and joy. The name Iris is Greek and it means rainbow for its many colours. However, most irises are shades of blue or purple. The majority of irises that we see today are hybrids of the originals. The iris has been around for many centuries, and many artists have chosen to paint them. There are several famous paintings of the flowers. From 1888 to 1890, Van Gogh painted at least four paintings of irises. Monet painted "Iris" sometime between 1914 and 1917. This white iris, displayed against a red background, became the symbol of Florence until the Medici family, to signal a change in political power, reversed the colours making the white one red and setting in motion a centuries-long breeding program to hybridise a red iris. Catherine de Medici carried this symbol of Florence to Paris when she married the king of France where this most famous of irises acquired its nickname, fleur-de-lis. The iris has been associated with France as Louis VII adopted it as a symbol in the 12th Century. Contemporary uses can be seen in the Quebec flag and on the flag of Saint Louis, Missouri. The iris is now the sole feature on the flag of the Brussels-Capital Region, symbol of Brussels, since historically; the important Saint Gaugericus Island was carpeted in them. The Iris is the state flower of Tennessee. It is a woman’s name Furthermore, it is the almost universal symbol of Scouting. In Flowers'-language: Iris means faith; hope; wisdom and valour In Fine Arts: the lenses also have an iris diaphragm which can be opened and closed to control the amount of light reaching the film. I wish you a good day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) ROMANZA of THE YELLOW and WHITE IRIS...

The term Romance (in music), (Spanish: romance/romanza, Italian: romanza, German: Romanze, French: romance, Russian: романс, Portuguese: romance) has a centuries-long history. Applied to narrative ballads in Spain, it came to be used by the 18th century for simple lyrical pieces not only for voice, but also for instruments alone. From then on, ALL the great composers wrote Romances. I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen! THESE whispered to me to REACH OUT and TOUCH, and that it FEEEEEEEEEEEEELS GOOD!!!! DANCING in the SHADOW… IRIS

SILK CARESSES… IRIS

I dream of Beauty, I dream of Peace, I dream of all things good, I dream of a different world, I dream of people living side by side, I dream of love, I wake up, beside my love… Irises, reaching out for that caress. AN IRIS CALLED CHANTILLY…

The tall Bearded Iris 'Chantilly’. Pure elegance. And, with bud. Ruffled and feminine flowers, they are a very pretty orchid pink which blends into a pale yellow. The petals are crimped along their edges. The Iris flower is of interest as an example of the relation between flowering plants and pollinating insects. The shape of the flower and the position of the pollen-receiving and stigmatic surfaces on the outer petals form a landing-stage for a flying insect, which in probing for nectar, will first come into contact with the perianth, then with the stigmatic stamens in one whorled surface which is borne on an ovary formed of three carpels. The shelf-like transverse projection on the inner whorled underside of the stamens is beneath the overarching style arm below the stigma, so that the insect comes in contact with its pollen-covered surface only after passing the stigma; in backing out of the flower it will come in contact only with the non-receptive lower face of the stigma. Thus, an insect bearing pollen from one flower will, in entering a second, deposit the pollen on the stigma; in backing out of a flower, the pollen which it bears will not be rubbed off on the stigma of the same flower.

BLOOMING IRIS…

The 'evolution, from bud to bloom'... Iris from the florist, not from the garden. It is always fascinating to see how they unfurl. I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour.
