REACH for THE STARS, LILY...

SUPPORT the PHOTOGRAPHER: BUY DIRECT! They were all plump buds when I bought them, now, they are unfurling one after the other... they are huge! Perfuming our home with their lovely spicy fragrance, pure joy for all our senses... Most of you know by now how I love 'playing' with light, a never ending beautiful challenge, food for my creative soul, lol... Flowers are a great 'subject' because of their diversity. Contrary to what many think: I AM NOT A FLOWER PHOTOGRAPHER! Just A photographer. I love my job, but contrary to what most 'enthusiasts' think, and wish it was their 'job', pro photographic work is often boring, the clients tell you what they want, if they know what they want, which is not always the case, that, or they DO know and just can't bring it across, there's not much space for personal input (not by lack of trying!!!). This here is my FREEDOM! Each flower seems to have a different 'personality' which I'm trying to capture. Lilium auratum, Golden rayed lily of Japan, or Goldband lily. In Japan, Lilium auratum is called Yama yuri which means mountain lily, a much sought after species, some are still growing in the wilds. In ancient times, the Japanese considered lilies a sacred plant. YELLOW DUSTED LILY

Lilium longiflorum. This plant is native to Japan and the Ryukyu Islands. It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers. I saw the curves and they looked quite architectural in a close up, also with a sensuality of 'you're making my toes curl'? Lol, thanx, M, (*_*)

YEARNING LILLIES... EXOTICA

I seldom think about my limitations, and they never make me sad. Perhaps there is just a touch of yearning at times; but it is vague, like a breeze among flowers. WHITE LILY FAN

yes I am a big fan of white lilies... Lilium longiflorum. This plant is native to Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands. It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers. We have a family of friends that we visit every year, they breed horses, wonderful people. They have now made it a tradition that each year, on the day of our return back home, the end of our visit/holidays, they present me with a bunch of freshly-cut Lilies (one of the sons helps on a farm where they grow them for the bulbs!). It is a bouquet that I can barely hold my arms around, I had to buy a BIG vase and even now, they are split. Our house is filled whit the fragrance. Although I do have a lot of work, I just HAD to take time out to eternalize them... What wonderful friends we have all over! VITAL ENERGY...

I love images like these, what more can I say? LOL. Stems have four main functions which are: * Support for and the elevation of leaves, flowers and fruits. The stems keep the leaves in the light and provide a place for the plant to keep its flowers and fruits. * Transport of fluids between the roots and the shoots and blooms . * Storage of nutrients. * The production of new living tissue. The normal life span of plant cells is one to three years. Stems have cells called meristems that annually generate new living tissue. Giving my flowers SOUL? LOOK AT US!

Trumpet lilies, Lilium Longiflorum, for once I HAD to crop because otherwise, it really did NOT sit well in the frame... I am proud and glad that my images do so well, purely on their merit, on the apreciation of my peers. That I do not have to resort to cowardly and underhand tactics... thanx for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk Please do not use any of my images on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

QUO VADIS?

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction. - Albert Einstein Quo wadis… ”Where are you going?" Yes, where do we go from here, the shock is dying down already as I see, the media interest will lessen quickly, yet the scars will remain, we’ll be a bit more battered, a bit more weary. I feel like apologising to my sons, my grand-children for bringing them into this world… when all I ever wanted was peace… thanx for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE, visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) WE RISE AGAIN…

Phoenix Lilies rising from the ashes? We have to always move on, deal with grief… but always move on, hoping for better, less evil, with optimism in our heart. I seldom think about my limitations, and they never make me sad. Perhaps there is just a touch of yearning at times; but it is vague, like a breeze among flowers. ODD PETAL OUT… LILY

NATURE'S QUIRKS... CAN BE VERY BEAUTIFUL! In a massive bouquet, I spotted this bud with an odd petal, I knew I had to be patient, keep my eye on it, it delivered and opened, half leaf-half petal, thus leaving the bloom open for all to see ... open sideways... one of nature's abnormalities that sometimes occur. Lilium longiflorum. And I have a demanding presence! Also a most pleasant fragrance. This plant is native to Japan and the Ryukyu Islands. It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers. I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n20U8hWHSE Hesitation Blues "Make up your mind to act decidedly and take the consequences. No good is ever done in this world by hesitation." quote by Thomas Huxley Many fellow photographers have asked me, how do I get my ideas? How do I 'pose' my flowers? I repeatedly answer, I don't! I open a bouquet, the flowers 'fall' open and I see what they tell me... I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen! These two Lilium Longiflorum looked a little hesitant, as they tentatively 'came' into the square frame... I decided not to move the camera, and take them as they'd come... a bit uncertain, indecisive, lacking confidence, reluctant, shy and timid... ALWAYS BETTER on proper Black Giving my flowers SOUL? The stamen loaded with pollen, ready to receive bees and butterflies... These anthers are made to seduce... Stamens are the male reproductive parts of flowers. A stamen consists of an anther (which produces pollen) and a filament. The pollen consists of the male reproductive cells; they fertilize ovules. Pollen must fertilize an ovule to produce a viable seed. This process is called pollination, and is often aided by animals like bees, which fly from flower to flower collecting sweet nectar. As they visit flowers, they spread pollen around, depositing it on some stigmas. After a male's pollen grains have landed on the stigma during fertilization, pollen tubes develop within the style, burrowing down to the ovary, where the sperm fertilizes an ovum (an egg cell), in the ovule. After fertilization, the ovule develops into a seed in the ovary. In this dreary season a dash of colour and fragrance can do wonders! I have another agenda when I buy them... I just know I'll photograph them, cannot resist! I MAKE time! The Stargazer Lilly was created in 1978 by Leslie Woodriff, a Lilly breeder in California. The plant is an Oriental hybrid lily which he called "Stargazer," because the blooms faced the sky. This Lilly is now fairly common throughout North America. Lillium "Stargazer" (the Stargazer Lilly) is a hybrid of the Oriental group. The ASPCA reports the plant as being toxic to cats. Mature, it grows to a height of 36 inches with a spread of 12 to 16 inches with an upright form. It has a fast growth rate and should be planted in full sun in well drained loamy or sandy soil. The flower is pink, red, and white, and is sweetly fragrant. The plant produces 4 to 5 flowers per stem. BEAUTY LIES OFTEN IN THE DETAIL. Love often shown most in the 'little' attentions and gestures! Ain't that the truth? They are very showy flowers! PPPPPFFFFFFT...A SMALL POLLEN CLOUD...

CLICK ON THE IMAGE FOR BEST VIEW! I am always experimenting and trying new things.. And I push myself and everything (everybody??? LOL) I work with. This was an unbelievable challenge. Was working alone, couldn't ask Paul to help, he is allergic to pollen! This took me quite a few tries and a number of stargazer lillies! When they freshly open, they are vibrant and pink, the older they get the bluer/purplish they become and the more orange the pollen gets... I saw the ripe pollen, it was starting to fall, yet when I wanted to photograph it, it just stuck, so I created a small 'windtunnel', I even tried my hair drier... yes you have to be creative in every sense! SHOW-OFF… White Tiger Lily

This flower is really showing us all, a little pollen dusted again There is an old legend from Asia about the Tiger Lily. A Korean hermit helped a wounded tiger by removing an arrow from its body. The tiger asked the hermit to use his powers to perpetuate their friendship after his death. The hermit agreed and when the tiger died, his body became a tiger lily. Eventually the hermit drowned and his body was washed away. The Tiger Lily spread everywhere searching for its friend. There is a superstition that smelling a Tiger Lily will give you freckles. The Tiger Lily stands for wealth and prosperity. The Tiger Lily, has six stamens (composed of anthers and filaments), one pistil (composed of the stigma, style and ovary), a long style, and a three-lobed stigma. THE DUELLING CALLAS

A white series today, to start with. Zantedeschia, usually erroneously called Calla or Arum lilies (only when white), they are not a true lily. Most of you know by now how I love 'playing' with light, a never ending beautiful challenge, food for my creative soul, lol... Flowers are a great 'subject' because of their diversity, textures, shapes ans colours. Contrary to what many think: I AM NOT A FLOWER PHOTOGRAPHER!Just A photographer. Here a personality clash? LOL. Thanx, your visit and comments ALWAYS appreciated, have a great day, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

TRIUMVIRATE...

Zantedeschia, usually erroneously called Calla or Arum lilies (only when white), they are not a true lily. I positioned these three beauties, the stage was set, the lights were on, camera/action/ ready for their close-up... A TRIUM VIRATE... The term triumvirate (from Latin, "of three men") is commonly used to describe a political regime dominated by three powerful individuals. My imagination running wild again... lol. THE INDIVUALISM of the one CALLA....

There's ALWAYS ONE!!! Quote by Willa Cather, about Individualism: "The revolt against individualism naturally calls artists severely to account, because the artist is of all men the most individual; those who were not have been long forgotten..." I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen!Brought in some white Zantedeschia, usually erroneously called Calla or Arum lilies (only when white), they are not a true lily. I took quite a few different images and noticed that one of the flowers just did NOT want to 'behave' like the others, I had an INDIVIDUALIST on my hands, haha, great! It is named after Italian botanist Francesco Zantedeschi. The Zantedeschia species are very poisonous, capable of killing livestock and children. All parts of the plant are toxic, and produce irritation and swelling of the mouth and throat, acute vomiting and diarrhea. All species are endemic to southern Africa. For years I 'experimented' in the studio, to get that Flemish painter's light? Well, I was born in Flanders, it must be in my blood? LOL. Giving my flowers SOUL? CALLA EXPLOSION

An earlier one... yes, once I was also a beginner? We All are! It has been a work of love over many years, many sleepless nights, many cameras, lenses, reflectors, lights, flowers etc... I learned from each image, each new experiment, till at last, some 20 years later, I finally got the result I had been after, your sails have to be filled with passion or your ship will never leave harbour... It is always the same, once you have an idea for the studio, you get in there, see something else, and something else again, wonderful how inspirational it can be. We did the wedding of Michelle and Ben. The theme was CALLA LILIES, the bouquets on the tables, her wedding flowers, the cake, all beautiful cool Callas... We were given a vase to take home and photograph them under studio-conditions. Thanx for viewing, M,(*_*)

ORANGE DAY in HOLLAND

Koninginnedag or Queen's Day is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Celebrated on 30 April, Koninginnedag is Queen Beatrix's official celebration day. Though Queen Beatrix was born on 31 January, the holiday is observed on 30 April as it was the birthday of her mother and predecessor, Juliana. Many of the traditional activities are held outside, and observing the holiday in April makes suitable weather more likely. Those taking part in Koninginnedag commonly dye their hair orange or wear orange clothing in honour of the House of Orange-Nassau, which rules over the Netherlands. Orange-coloured drinks are also popular. This colour choice is sometimes dubbed "orange madness", or in Dutch "oranjegekte". A local Orange Committee member said of Koninginnedag in 2011:
Friendships—and community—will be formed. For me that’s really what Queen’s Day is all about. It’s not an outburst of patriotism, it’s not even about the popularity of the royal family. It’s about a sense of belonging. For one day, everybody is the same in Holland. Bright orange and barmy...View On Black
