MY NAME IS LILY…

#abfav_monochrome Lilium longiflorum. And I have a demanding presence! Also a most pleasant fragrance. This plant is native to Japan and the Ryukyu Islands. It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers. I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. GYMNOPEDIE… Cyclamen

#abfav_monochrome youtu.be/S-Xm7s9eGxU The word was in a musical dictionary Eric Satie had at home, and the given definition was “An event at a greek festival wherein maidens danced in the nude.” Most of my images are made under the influence… of music! I was working on a new project. A book called THE MONOCHROMES. Movie:THE MONOCHROMES here: youtu.be/GoOj18_lEVg I had been ‘neglecting’ my black and white photography, which I still love so very much. SILK WHITE CYCLAMENS This is only a small plant, but on the windowsill in my kitchen, it seems to thrive in the Northern light, these beauties here seem to fight for the light. Cyclamen are native to the Mediterranean region from Spain east to Iran, and also in northeast Africa south to Somalia. #abfav_monochrome The perfect music for a SUMMERY FEEL… youtu.be/xRyH9aOucUQ Chris Hinze. The Oriental Lily opens a 6 petal bloom that can spread up to 20cm in diameter. The height of the Oriental Lily can range between 3 to 5 feet. Oriental Lilies tend to flower mid-season (July/August). They are a long lasting and highly scented variety. All the shades of grey... from a true black to white... as it should be! HABLA con ELLA… Alstroemeria

#abfav_monochrome Alstroemeria, also called Peruvian /Inca lily, named after the Swedish baron Clas Alströmer They are all native to South America although some have become naturalised in the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Madeira and the Canary Islands. Species of Alstroemeria from Chile are winter-growing plants while those of Brazil are summer-growing. Please View On Black Monochromatic? Not really he? NOCTURNE... for WHITE MAGNOLIA

#abfav_monochrome www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtIW2r1EalM Chopin Nocturne Magnolia proctoriana, an abundant early flowering tree, with 6 very large pure white tepals. The tepals droops, which gives the plant a unique appearance. It is a upright tree with large fragrant white flowers. I love the different lichen on the fragile branches... probably not so great for the tree? Brought these into the studio, they have a short life span, one was already wind-damaged, a must take portrait... I am very often inspired by music, just listen to the above... All the shades of grey... from a true black to white... as it should be! I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. FRAZZLED??? MOI???... TULIP

A tulip, open and inviting. TULIP frazzled, frayed. Definition of frazzled: Past tense of the verb to frazzle. To wear away along the edges; fray. To exhaust physically or emotionally. A frayed or tattered condition. A condition of exhaustion... NOT ME! LOL Saw this bouquet of tulips, of the frayed variety, well they were frazzled in more than one way... as you can see, missing a few petals, a bit of mould starting in the center, made it only more interesting, just what I wanted! Sometimes I just 'feeeeeeeeel' like this, a flower image in b&w... I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stamens their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. WINDFLOWER… ANEMONE

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Greek anemōnē means "daughter of the wind", from ánemos the wind god "wind" + suffix -ōnē. The Metamorphoses of Ovid tells that the plant was created by the goddess Venus when she sprinkled nectar on the blood of her dead lover Adonis. The name "windflower" is used for the whole genus as well as the wood anemone. Monochrome photography is mostly used for artistic reasons in the contemporary world. A NEW YEAR, A NEW PROJECT…

During our festive ‘holidays’ we were doing what we love: photography! I am now working on a new project. A book of mono flowers. It feels like I have been ‘neglecting’ my black and white photography, which I still love so very much. Monochrome images: all forms of black-and-white photography, which produce images containing tones of grey ranging from black to white. Other hues besides grey, such as sepia, cyan or brown can also be used in monochrome photography. Monochrome photography is mostly used for artistic reasons in the contemporary world. All the shades of grey... from a true black to white... as it should be! I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stamens their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. Don't you agree? The ‘evolution’ of Lysianthus. One neg. SPRING EXPLOSION, NARCISSUS…

Narcissus possibly derived from ??? (narke) meaning "sleep, numbness," in Greek mythology was a hunter from the territory of Thespiae in Boeotia who was renowned for his beauty. He was exceptionally proud, in that he disdained those who loved him. Nemesis saw this and attracted Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection in the waters and fell in love with it, not realising it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus died ... These here, nice double plump trumpets, are a fragrant variety. I (maybe wrongly) make a distinction, based on that fact, between Daffodils and Narcissus... After a Winter-sleep... they are back (in the shops)! Narcissus: The term narcissus refers to a genus of bulbs that includes hundreds of species and literally tens of thousands of cultivars! The Narcissus genus includes daffodils, jonquils, and paperwhites, among many others, so when in doubt, this is the term to use. I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stamens their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. "Flamingo Flower" Anthurium andraeanum, Order: Alismatales, Family: Araceae. A challenge to photograph their shiny and waxy heart-shaped spathes referred to as the floral portion. BLOOMING IRIS…

The 'evolution, from bud to bloom'... Iris from the florist, not from the garden. It is always fascinating to see how they unfurl. METAMORPHOSIS… PEONY

Always mesmerising to see a bud unfurl into one of the blousiest blooms! I collected the buds and smaller ones, still gorgeous and fragrant, so bounteous with their beauty. The name of Peony is after a Paion (Peon) who was a student of the Gods' Doctor Asklipios. Paion had cured a wound Hercules had caused to Pluto. Asklipios got very angry with his student and killed him. Pluto then metamorphosed Paion into a flower. This flower is supposed to relief many illnesses and fever. The Japanese protect the earliest peony blooms from the snow by protecting them with individual small thatched shelters. Some geishas used to wear special peony colours. The Chinese name for peony is "sho yu" which means "most beautiful" and they idolised this flower. The common thread is that the flower always denotes luxury and indulgence. thanx for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PEONISSIME… White Peonies in mono

"The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive. To him... a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise,O a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death." Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create -- so that without the creating of image, music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating." ó Pearl S. Buck Anybody who likes my images, that my photos 'give' something to... then, I have achieved my goal, that's all there is to it, thank you, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) PEONY SYMPHONY in Black & White...

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME, VIA THE WEBSITE! I've been working on this project, 'Flowers in the studio' for many a year. I hope you enjoy them. I saw this bud being trashed by wind and rain, so I went and rescued it, soon it thrived and slightly unfurled, I eternalized it ( in the studio, in my usual way, painting with light...). Peonies are actually very easy to grow; once established they can tolerate drought and suffer from very few diseases. The peony, along with the prune blossom were two traditional floral symbols of China, where the famous ancient Chinese city Luoyang has a reputation as a cultivation centre for the peonies, the peonies in Luoyang are often said to be the finest in the country, . Dozens of peony exhibitions and shows are also annually held there. The Japanese name for the peony "Ebisugusuri" means "medicine from China". Peonies have long been venerated in their native China and Japan. The peony was formerly regarded as both ornamental and medicinal, but is now mostly grown as an ornamental plant for the very large, showy single, double red, pink or white, often scented flowers. The peony is the State flower of Indiana. They are amongst my top ten favourite flowers, if there is such a thing! I love them in the garden, and in the house, such a blousy opulent display, an explosion of colour, they fragrance a whole room. Sometimes I just 'feeeeeeeeel' like this, a flower image in b&w... I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasized without the colour. VICTORIANA PEONY...

I again tried to photograph them in a 'Victorian' style. Lots of drama! The peony is the only genus in the flowering plant family Paeoniaceae. They are native to Asia, Southern Europe and western North America but grow very well here too, Peonies are actually very easy to grow; once established they can tolerate drought and suffer from very few diseases. Colours range from pure white through baby pinks and palest peaches to clear deep pink and darkest rich maroon. There is also a pale yellow but it is rare. Peonies are only available between late May and early July, so get them while you can! They are very thirsty flowers, so make sure you top up the vase or bowl. The Greeks believed they could cure over 20 ailments and were found in every monastery garden. Peonies have been cultivated for over 2,000 years, more for their medicinal qualities than for ornament. The Japanese protect the earliest peony blooms from the snow by protecting them with individual small thatched shelters. Some geishas used to wear special peony colours. The Chinese name for peony is 'sho yu' which means 'most beautiful' and they idolise this flower. The common thread is that the flower always denotes luxury and indulgence. My favourite... THE MEANING & SYMBOLISM OF PEONY…

With a recorded history that dates back thousands of years, it’s not surprising that even the mythology surrounding the origin of the peony has multiple versions. One legend has it that the peony is named after Paeon, a physician to the gods, who received the flower on Mount Olympus from the mother of Apollo. And another tells the story of that same physician who was ‘saved’ from the fate of dying as other mortals by being turned into the flower we know today as the peony. The traditional floral symbol of China, the state flower of Indiana, and the 12th wedding anniversary flower, peonies are known as the flower of riches and honour. With their lush, full, rounded bloom, peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage. Monochromatic? Not really he? I've been working on this project, 'Flowers in the studio' for many a year. HMMM, 25 years! hope you enjoy them. It completely unfurled, I eternalised it (in the studio, in my usual way, playing with light...). I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. DEW or RAIN? Rose...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! 'But friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold.' Oliver Wendell Holmes Is it dew or is it rain on this Rose, from our garden? A beauty covered with sparkling diamonds... Rain, the tears from heaven. There are plenty of myths and legends behind the white rose. As one myth has it, the first rose on Earth was a white rose, and it miraculously transformed to other hues. The pure white rose was said to have been tainted by blood, making it red; and it was also made to blush from a kiss, making it pink. Another myth came from the Ancient Greeks. It was said that roses were originally white until one day Aphrodite the Goddess of Love and Beauty pricked herself with the thorns of a rose. The blood that dripped from her finger turned the white roses red. These myths indicate the loss of innocence, which is the absolute opposite of what the white rose symbolizes – innocence and purity Giving my flowers SOUL? CRY ME A RIVER… JUST JOEY ROSE

A blousy fragrant tea-rose, name Just Joey, from the garden... Rescued again, it is August and we have rain and wind, their heavy blooms being trashed on their delicate stems, I couldn't stand it any longer, brought them in! Now and then, I think they sigh with contentment for the peace and quiet and warmth, a waft of gorgeous fruity rich fragrance each time... Diamond drops glistening, bowing with headiness, the ‘ruched’ petals softly glowing in the light!!! I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen! HARMONY, JUST JOEY...

Water-drops, raindrops, tear-drops, we cry together, in harmony... These here speak of opulence, splendour, prosperity, richness, voluptuousness, sumptuousness and luxuriance , but also of a certain dark secrecy... just blooming from the bud in the most delicious curves... It has a fragrance to die for, mmmmmmm. "There is nothing more difficult for a truly creative painter than to paint a rose, because before he can do so he has first to forget all the roses that were ever painted." quote by Henri Matisse, I think it goes for photographers too? LE BAISER… ROSES

I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. We NEED it! Kissing is great! It’s known as a favourite universal act of showing love and affection. Almost everyone receives or gives a kiss at some point in their life. A Lingering Lip Kiss – This is a closed mouth kiss that lasts for more than 20 seconds. The tongue is not involved in this kiss. Lingering lip kisses involve the lips only. This kiss serves as an indication of deep love. Two small amorous roses. MANDALA… ROSES…

I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. For PEACE, always.. The meaning of mandala comes from Sanskrit meaning "circle." Even though it may be dominated by squares or triangles, a mandala has a concentric structure. Mandalas offer balancing visual elements, symbolising unity and harmony. The goal of the mandala is to serve as a tool on our spiritual journey as it symbolises cosmic and psychic order. The Hindus were one of the first people to use a mandala as a spiritual tool, but the mandalas most individuals are familiar with, are ones made by Buddhists. These duo-toned roses are small and dainty and non-fragrant. JE SUIS TOUT LE MONDE!!!

STAND IN SHAME AND SORROW!!! EVERY FEW DAYS…. MORE TEARS on the ROSES. Part of the world is celebrating. Another part in deep mourning… once more hundreds of lives lost in a horrific attack. Not much mention of it though. Have we really become so insensitive, is it really a matter of , hey they are in a different group? Not ‘my’ people? For me, it will ALWAYS be PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE!!!! A LIFE is A LIFE, no matter anything. I see the endless pain in the people of Baghdad! Magda, (;_;)

EPHEMERAL... All things are transitory, existing only briefly… Some things last longer than others… but eventually it all ages and fleets... especially outer beauty, so overrated today and often the course of misery, depression and obsession for many! LA VALSE A MILLE TEMPS… Tulips

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK5X_Mb9daM The title of this song may be translated as "To Waltz To Thousand Times”, an uncharacteristically light-hearted composition for Jacques Brel, it is probably best described as a Parisian love song. It is also a parody, of "Musetta's Waltz," its most notable feature being that it starts off very slowly but soon accelerates to such a degree that considerable verbal gymnastics are required. Are these two also waltzing for you? FRAYED EGOS, in mono…

these white 'frayed' tulips were just beautiful, some of the rarest I've seen. they were like this when I bought them, not closed and a bit 'wild'? I knew they wouldn’t last very long, yet I still wanted them! One bouquet, with a tag saying 'Specialty Tulips'... Fighting for a prime place in the photo, it looks like! Playing in the studio with light and dof, all the time looking for new challenges and 'fresh' and creative images. I am now working on a new project. A book of mono flowers. It feels like I have been ‘neglecting’ my black and white photography, which I still love so very much. You encounter, easily, frayed egos everywhere in life, often a lack of self-confidence? LUCKY SEVEN… TULIPS

No need to be ‘frazzled’? LOL Because: Seven is the most significant number across religions and cultures It also appears in some of the world's favourite fictional works Poll of 30,000 people reveals 7 is overwhelmingly our favourite number There are seven virtues: humility, chastity, kindness, patience, abstinence, diligence and liberality. There are seven days of the week, seven colours of the rainbow, seven notes on a musical scale, seven seas and seven continents. Snow White ran off to live with seven dwarves, there were seven brides for seven brothers, Shakespeare described the seven ages of man, Sinbad the Sailor had seven voyages. And when Ian Fleming was looking for a code for James Bond, he didn’t go for 006 or 008. Only 007 had the right ring. EN GARDE, FAN FAN LA TULIPE...

NE PLEURE PAS POUR MOI... En garde is a French phrase meaning 'on guard'. Used to warn a fencer to assume the position preparatory to a duel, or to warn an opponent in chess that their queen is threatened. Salute, the bout is over, beads are building up, FOR ALL THE GLORIOUS DETAIL, View LARGE and On Black. There are no secrets... it only took me years of experimenting in the studio. First you hit it with everything you've got, like all things in life, hihi, now it is less and less. Just one spotlight set up in the position so that the light catches the edges and part of the flower... until I'm happy... a black bg. I use cutters and flags to shield and play with the light. Photography is an Art, a way of life and seeing life, it is my passion, mental and emotional nourishment. All I can say is experiment, experiment, experiment... the exposure is irrelevant because each flower, light source is different. Make it your own! Sometimes I just 'feeeeeeeeel' like this, a flower image in b&w... I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasized without the colour. SCULPTURAL… TULIP

In between things there is time for some of my favourite photography and playing with lights... Went to the 'end of the market' for a cheap deal on flowers (my props), 6 bunches for £ 2, chose from whatever is left. I was fortunate, blue Irises, blue Hyacinths, pink Tulips, Tiger Lilies, what a delight, they perfume our whole house! I am now working on a new project. A book called THE MONOCHROMES. A close-up of a candy-pink tulip of the smaller variety with enormous beauty. With its center petals it almost looked like a 'double’. Hope this brings a bit of joy again, have a good day and thanx for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) LE BEAU MONSTRE… PARROT TULIP

I am now working on a new project. A book of flowers: THE MONOCHROMES. It feels like I have been ‘neglecting’ my black and white photography, which I still love so very much. Nature at its freakiest best? Most unusual, these bi-coloured Rococo Parrot Tulips, flowers with twisted, irregularly fringed petals. They are weird even a little 'alien'? Are they ‘monstrous beauty or beautiful monster’ These white and green are the most exotic of the lot though! Love them or hate them, Parrot Tulips are Spring's grand (bulb) showcase, big and beautiful, they have flamboyant flowers with streaks, ruffles and frayed edges. I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. LOVE IS IN THE AIR... TULIPS

I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. Valentine's day is getting closer... leaves are curling heart-shaped, more and more, flower-heads bending closer… I know it is mostly about commerce and some are a bit blasé about it, but it is a nice thought, although one day in the year is not enough, in my book, to pay 'special' attention to your partner. Here it is Valentine's day EVERY DAY, we give flowers when WE feel like it! LOL. THE LITTLE LANTERN... RANUNCULUS

Sometimes one flower will go rogue... an individualist? Here is one, the stem bent, head down, like a little lampshade. LOL AAAHHH Ranunculus, multi-layered blooms opened beautifully, not always evident, their stems are extremely delicate and do tend to just collapse before the bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom... I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stamens their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour. Fred? And, euh... GINGER....

Looking shy? Brought gingerly to you... meaning, like all my images: with great care or delicacy. TWO GINGER-FLOWERS. Symbols The red ginger flower represents intense passion. These flowers symbolise strength, prosperity as well as diversity. The general flower meaning for ginger flowers is proud and majestic. History Ginger, along with black pepper, were considered highly valuable trade commodities in 13th and 14nth century England. One pound of ginger traded for the same amount as a sheep. The country of India brought ginger to the Romans as far back as 2,000 years ago. The Romans used the plant for its medicinal value. The ginger family (Zingiberaceae) contains around 1,000 species of tropical perennial herbs. Some gingers are cultivated for their edible rhizomes, which are used for as both a medicine and a culinary spice. Other ginger plants, known as ornamental gingers, are grown primarily for their pleasing appearance. Leafy cane-like stems arise from rhizomes to form a plant 3 to 15 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide. Throughout the year, ginger plants produce stunning red blossoms that are often used in flower arrangements. When growing gingers, remember, they love moist, well-drained soil and partial shade. Ginger blooms come red, pink and white, have thick, very sturdy stems and are perfect to create height in a tropical arrangement. They have a decidedly modern feel. Heralding the Coming of Spring… Tulip and Hyacints

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." [Meditations Divine and Moral]” ― Anne Bradstreet, The Works of Anne Bradstreet According to the Japanese ancient Shinto calendar, February 4th is the first day of spring. It is celebrated by the festival of Risshun (立春), literally meaning “rise of Spring”. The event is preceded by the festival of Setsubun (節分) on February 3rd , the kanji characters for which mean “seasonal division”. Monochromatic? Not really he? All the shades of grey... from a true black to white... as it should be! I love my job, but contrary to what most 'enthusiasts' think, and wish it was their 'job', pro photographic work is often boring, the clients tell you what they want, if they know what they want, which is not always the case, that, or they DO know and just can't bring it across, there's not much space for personal input (not by lack of trying!!!). BEAUTY COMES FROM THE HEART... Gerbera

The season of LOVE upon us once more. To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field, it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again. -- quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson Gerbera is a genus of ornamental plants from the sunflower family. It was named in honor of the German naturalist Traugott Gerber. It has approximately 30 species in the wild, extending to South America, Africa and tropical Asia. Colors include white, yellow, orange, red, and pink. The center of the flower is sometimes black. It is the fifth most used cut flower in the world (after rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulip). I picked it in our garden, the last one last Summer(they bloomed while we were away!!!)... and it opened in the strangest way... open sideways... one of nature's abnormalities that sometimes occur. thanx for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: http://www.indigo2photography.co.uk Please do not use any of my images on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

Alstroemeria in MONO...

Sometimes I just 'feeeeeeeeel' like this, a flower image in b&w... I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasized without the colour. Don't you agree? Most of you know by now how I love 'playing' with light, a never ending beautiful challenge, food for my creative soul, lol... These I decided to try and take from the top. This here is my FREEDOM! Each flower seems to have a different 'personality' which I'm trying to capture. Giving my flowers SOUL? CREATE YOUR DREAMS... Alstroemeria

"We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams." That is the 'original' quote, that goes for the flowers I photographed here, Alstroemeria... sadly, it did not mention who's words they were. It reminds me of ZORBA, By Nikos Kazantzakis, one of my favourite literary works, talk about overlapping expression!!! Because it was so fitting to my own emotions, I made it into this now: "I photograph for laughter, I photograph for tears, I photograph for madness, I photograph for fears, I photograph for hopes, I photograph for screams, I am the photographer, I create the dreams..." THE DARK MALUS BLOSSOMS in bandw...

Malus, Crab-apple, "wild apples". ENJOY, LARGE and View On Black Sometimes I just 'feeeeeeeeel' like this, a flower image in b&w... I love the subtle tones, all the varied tonalities, that give the flower/petals/sepals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasized without the colour. Don't you agree? Saw this beautiful tree, being thrashed by wind and rain, it stood strong amongst the white and pink blossoms of the surrounding tree. Found a place to park, tried to get a 'good' image, but the weather was getting worse... my Nikon can stand rain, however.... I looked and saw on the ground that already a few had been ripped off, the old wood looked beautiful, I carefully picked it up and brought it home, to photograph and enjoy forever. NOCTURNE... for WHITE MAGNOLIA

I am very often inspired by music, just listened to a Chopin Nocturne op.9 no.1... Magnolia proctoriana, an abundant early flowering tree, with 6 very large pure white tepals. The tepals droops, which gives the plant a unique appearance. It is a upright tree with large fragrant white flowers. I love the different lichen on the fragile branches... probably not so great for the tree? Brought these into the studio, they have a short life span, one was already wind-damaged, a must take portrait... For years I 'experimented' in the studio, to get that Flemish painter's light? Well, I was born in Flanders, it must be in my blood? LOL. Goldie Hawn had her first screen appearance in this! From South Pacific (Rodgers & Hammerstein) The cyclamen commonly sold by florists is Cyclamen persicum, which is frost-tender. Selected cyclamen cultivars can have white, bright pink, red or purple flowers. SILK WHITE CYCLAMEN…

This is only a small plant, but on the windowsill in my kitchen, it seems to thrive in the Northern light, these beauties seem to fight for the light. Art is a continuous process of creativity... First I tried for years to get the light I wanted on my flowers under studio conditions. The quest went through different cameras, numerous lenses( just to find the right one!), a vast amount of lighting set-ups, eventually resorting to the use of cutters, gobos and flags, etc.,. Now I might be ready to take them further?
