BURNING PASSION... Tulips.

#abfav_red Yes, my burning passion for flowers, the capturing of their beauty in a thousand different ways, a wonderful challenge... everyday! There are people who 'talk' to the flowers and plants? Me, I just 'listen' to them, with my eyes… I open the wrapping, they fall open on the table and tell me. The closer I looked the more they invited me in, to listen , yet keeping the centre of the flower still very secret... They emerged from the dark. Have a great day and thank you for your visit and comment, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) La révérence… a Tulip

To me it looks like this tulip is taking a deep bow, in French, une révérence… A bow for gents, curtsy for the ladies, with a flourish? THE WILD BUNCH...

I was given this bunch of Double Tulips for a project, I love their opulence and fresh Spring fragrance. In the studio on black velvet. The Tulip was originally a wild flower growing in the Central Asia and was first cultivated by the Turks as early as 1,000 AD. In the beginning of the 17th century the tulips were starting to be used as a garden decoration beside the former medicinal purposes. It soon gained major popularity as a trading product, especially in Holland. The interest for the flower was huge and bulbs were sold for unbelievably high prices. Botanists soon found ways of making it an even more decorative and tempting specimen. Hybrids and mutations of the flower were seen as rarities and a sign of high status. In the months of late 1636 to early 1637 there was a complete “Tulip mania” in the Netherlands. Some examples could cost more than an Amsterdam house at this time. Even ordinary men took part in the business. They saw how much money the upper class got in trading and thought that this was an easy way of getting lots of money at no risk. The bulbs were usually sold by weight while they were still in the ground. The trade with the un-sprouted flower came to be called “wind trade”. The traders made fabulous amounts of money every month, and people started to sell their businesses, family homes, farm animals, furnishings and dowries to participate. The government could not do anything to stop it, the trade was all about access and demand. But finally the tulip did not appear to be quite so rare to justify such high prices. Over-supply led to lower prices and dealers went bankrupt and many people lost their savings because of the trade. This “Tulip Crash” made the government introduce special trading restrictions for the flower. It is said that the flower became so popular because of the bright colours, dramatic flames and frilly petals. To have tulips in one’s home was a way to impress, and when the wealth spread down the social ladder, so did the urge for tulips. Giving my flowers SOUL? WHATEVER... TULIP

Sadly trendy now. About bad 'attitude'? Whatever is a slang term meaning "whatever you say" and "I don't care what you say". The term is used to dismiss a previous statement and express indifference and is usually considered offensive and impolite. In the late 20th century and early 21st century, the word became a sentence in its own right; in effect an interjection, it is used as a passive-aggressive conversational blocking tool, leaving the responder without a convincing retort. Anything they do or say can simply be blocked by the retort of "whatever". I really is NOT a nice thing, so please do NOT say it? With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) MAMA MIA… Tulips

Double Tulips, speaking a silent language that I seem to understand. Wouldn't it be a lovely thought, if I had been a beautiful flower in a 'previous' life? As a youngster, a loner, being born in Bruges, West Flanders, I would often just walk into one of the many musea and churches (free in those days!), where you could admire all the great Flemish old Masters, I so loved their light!!! I was a sponge, absorbed it, stored it, till now? I do aim for it in my photography! SO,I adapted the lights and reflectors for the 'Flemish School of light' again, so suits these. It is full on the time of the DOUBLE TULIPS in the shop... at the moment, I feel they 'might' be my favourites! They are a bit capricious, Baroque, so varied in shapes, with small oddities, I have become fascinated by them, aahh, and the colours, from deep red, through textured orange to veined yellow to green, the leaves also perform. Oh, and that sweet honey fragrance... HMMMM, Love them. A FLOWER STUDY, THE BENEFICES of FLOWERS! A FLOWER STUDY 1... THE DOUBLE TULIP

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! The Emotional Impact of Flowers Study was published in the April 2005 issue of Evolutionary Psychology. Home Ecology of Flowers StudyHarvard: Living with Flowers Strengthens Feelings of Compassion, and Decreases Anxiety and Worry. With people’s desire for tranquility and stress relief stronger than ever, fresh research takes an insightful look at flowers and the important role they may play in our daily lives. A behavioral research study conducted by Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, reveals that people feel more compassionate toward others, have less worry and anxiety, and feel less depressed when fresh cut flowers are present in the home.“Other research has proven that flowers make people happy when they receive them,” Etcoff says. “What we didn’t know is that spending a few days with flowers in the home can affect a wide variety of feelings. The Home Ecology of Flowers Study at Harvard uncovered three main findings: *Flowers feed compassion.Study participants who lived with fresh cut flowers for less than a week felt an increase in feelings of compassion and kindness for others. *Flowers chase away anxieties, worries and the blues at home.Overall, people in the study simply felt less negative after being around flowers at home for just a few days.Participants most frequently placed flowers in their kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms, where they spend a lot of time at home. They reported wanting to see the blooms first thing in the morning. *Living with flowers can provide a boost of energy, happiness and enthusiasm at work. Having flowers at home can have a positive carry-over impact on our mood at work, too. The study found that people were more likely to feel happier and have more enthusiasm and energy at work when flowers were in their home living environments. “As a psychologist, I’m particularly intrigued to find that people who live with flowers report fewer episodes of anxiety and depressed feelings,” Etcoff says. “Our results suggest that flowers have a positive impact on our well being.” AND AM I NOT LIVING PROOF OF THAT???????? To have tulips in one’s home was a way to impress, and when the wealth spread down the social ladder, so did the urge for tulips. Have FUN, I wish you all the very best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves. Very much appreciated. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY...

It is the celebration of MOTHER in England today. SAY IT WITH FLOWERS? M-O-T-H-E-R "M" is for the million things she gave me, "O" means only that she's growing old, "T" is for the tears she shed to save me, "H" is for her heart of purest gold; "E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining, "R" means right, and right she'll always be, Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER," A word that means the world to me. - Howard Johnson As one myself, I know what it means, all the love and the heartache, the joys and the tears, the happiness and sadness, the life long commitment, the eternal lifeline no matter what! It's not easy being a good parent, no schools except the school of life, you often only know you didn't do it quite right when it is too late! It's 10 times harder to correct! But, when you do get it right, the feeling is magic, you're proud. It's a prowess! Happy Mother's day, hope they'll remember you well and not just today but EVERY day, thanx for your visit, M, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.co.uk IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE SEPARATION and CHILDREN IN THE MIDDLE!

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! Like every major life change, divorce can be a stressful experience. It affects finances, living arrangements, household jobs, schedules and more. If the family includes children, they may be deeply affected, parents must not forget that they created these lives... when they had feelings for each other? That it was never 'all bad'? Children often feel they have to make a choice, what was once ONE 'safe-haven' suddenly becomes two alien places? Statistics show that many regret separation and say if the could, they would go back... No matter what, IT CAUSES A LOT OF PAIN for ALL parties, the wider families included. ALL PARTIED OUT... and AN EPIPHANY...

On the twelfth day of Christmas... Epiphany (feeling) An epiphany (from the ancient Greek ἐπιφάνεια, epiphaneia, "manifestation, striking appearance") is the sudden realization or comprehension of the (larger) essence or meaning of something. So, OKE... I get it, THE PARTY IS OVER, good caus' I'm knackered... says this Rococo parrot tulip! Despite its popular image, epiphany is the result of significant labor on the part of the discoverer and is only the satisfying result of a long process, usually involving significant periods of labor. The surprising and fulfilling feeling of epiphany is so surprising because one cannot predict when one's labor will bear fruit, and our subconsciousness can play a significant part in delivering the solution; and is fulfilling because it is a reward for a long period of labor. It took me over 20 years to get the result I wanted... many different cameras and lenses, even more lights, reflectors all sort, films, positive, negative, Polaroi, cutters, flags...hits and misses... Yes I've earned my stripes, lol. Giving my flowers SOUL? MAGNIFICENT SEVEN…. PARROT TULIPS

A PARROT TULIP QUARTET...

THE LOVESICK PARROT TULIPS...

THEME: Valentine. Valentine's day is getting closer... I know it is mostly about commerce and some are a bit blasé about it, but it is a nice thought, although one day in the year is not enough, in my book, to pay 'special' attention to your partner. Here it is Valentine's day EVERY DAY, we give flowers when WE feel like it! LOL. Gabriel García Márquez wrote: " If I would know that these would be the last minutes that I will see you, I would say to you, 'I love you' and wouldn't assume that you would know..." Much as I like his writing, I can't help but wonder, why wait for 'the last' minutes??? Say it as often as you feel it, I do! BRRR, COLD SNAP? Parrot tulip.

A shivering tulip, what next eh? LOL The Ice Saints or Frost Saints is a name given to St. Mamertus, St. Pancras, and St. Servatius in Austrian, Belgian, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, North-Italian, Polish, Slovene and Swiss folklore. They are so named because their (name) feast days are known as "the black-thorn winter". This period from May 11 to May 15 was noted to bring a brief spell of colder weather in many years, including the last nightly frosts of the spring, in the Northern Hemisphere under the Julian Calendar. Every year it is the same, some milder days yes, however it only really warms up AFTER, what the French call, Les Saints de Glace. There are people who 'talk' to the flowers and plants? Me, I just 'listen' to them. And I only buy flowers that speak yo me... Wrap up, some morning frost still possible judging by the predictions! SHOW OFF... the inviting Parrot-Tulip...

I like this poem, because of the analogy wit flowers and photography! If it is ready, photograph it, it might NOT be there tomorrow!

Title: The Lost Jewel
Author: Emily Dickinson

I held a jewel in my fingers
And went to sleep.
The day was warm, and winds were prosy;
I said: "'T will keep."

I woke and chid my honest fingers,
The gem was gone;
And now an amethyst remembrance
Is all I own.

WHO'S A PRETTY POLLY??? A Parrot tulip.

I love Parrot tulips, especially the red ones, the colourful frivolous bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom... I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen! You can see for yourself what this Rococo tulip was saying!!! On a serious note: I get between 300 and 500 emails a day, many with requests about my lighting. I have no secrets really. Each flower shot is lit individually. There's no magic formula. I use continuous light, I'm not keen on flash, together with an array of reflectors, flags and cutters to shape the light. It took me over 20 years of work and experimentation to learn the language of light. I knew exactly what I wanted, I could see it with my minds eye, and I was determined my eyes were going to see it for real one day! If I may humbly offer some advice, like I give to pupils in a workshop? I am NOT one of those 'teachers' that want little ME's, no, the individuality of a person is too precious! Each photographer must pursue their own vision and develop a unique style and voice. You can only do that through constantly experimenting and trying things and then when you find a look that you like you have to pursue and refine it with a passion. I work over 10 hours a day on my photography. I wish you all of the best in your photographic endeavours. Giving my flowers SOUL? LUSCIOUS PETALS...

This is an 'organic' close-up of a variegated tulip, they are called Rococo Parrot tulips.

THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT... TULIP

Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation Darkness stirs and wakes imagination Silently the senses abandon their defences Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendour Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender Turn your face away from the garish light of day Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light And listen to the music of the night Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar And you live as you've never lived before Softly, deftly, music shall caress you Hear it, feel it secretly possess you Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind In this darkness that you know you cannot fight The darkness of the music of the night Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before Let your soul take you where you long to be Only then can you belong to me... EMERGING FROM THE DARK..

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... "Every moment of light and dark is a miracle." Quote by Walt Whitman. These had stayed in the studio, where, for obvious reasons, it is never very warm, I came in, it was dark, only a glimpse of light in the yearly dark weeks, soon we will again be 'emerging' too... I could not resist capturing that 'air' of mystery... I wish you all the very best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. A DARKER BEAUTY... TOWARDS THE END...

They are 'cold' flowers, flamboyant as they may be... so, these are forced in hot-houses, have a vase life of (if you are lucky and treat them well) of 5/6 days. Towards the end, they get darker, also more textured, which gives them even more character? Like people? LOL. There are people who 'talk' to the flowers and plants? Me, I just 'listen' to them, I open the wrapping, they fall open on the table and tell me. It is so clear what that one was saying: I'll end in style... THIS IS THE LATEST!!! FADING BEAUTY... FADING YEAR...

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... Alas... tulips, once cut, have a lifespan of about 7 days, if you are lucky and bought them VERY fresh and in closed buds! Often they retain their beauty till the end and then, oops, all the petals drop. These had stayed in the studio, where, for obvious reasons, it is never very warm, I came in, they had opened completely, showing off all the secrets of the inside flower, aach, how can I resist such beauty, even when fading... Twilight flowers? Mysterious and still passionate... they look unreal. The year 2011 is also fading rapidly now, its lifespan 365 days. Some will be sad others will be glad... c'est la vie... we take it as it comes if we want to get through life 'gracefully'? I wish you all a very good week and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. ELEGIE…

https://youtu.be/ElYS7lyJ3O4 A Tulip-octopus? They say I am an artist? Okay then, that would explain why I am a super-sensitive (sometimes OVER-sensitive, LOL), and often have high emotions? At the moment the main one is sorrow. It always reflects in my images, how can I make ‘HAPPY’ photos when I feel so sad? It doesn’t work. So this photo suits my mood, what I see in this ‘dried’ tulip, is what I feel in my head, like an octopus, all the ‘arms’ trying to find a grip, a connection, a hold-fast, to get some kind of understanding. My brain is not wired for this, it is in turmoil! Red, a hopeless searching. FADING BEAUTY, FAST FADING YEAR, TULIPS...

(best on black) My quote of this year: ‘BE HAPPY for what you have and NOT UNHAPPY for what you do NOT have!’ by magda indigo Alas... tulips, once cut, have a lifespan of about 7 days, if you are lucky and bought them VERY fresh, in closed buds! The year 2016 is also fading rapidly now, its lifespan 365 days nearly exhausted. Some will be sad others will be glad... ... we take it as it comes if we want to get through life 'gracefully'? I am doing my utmost to focus on all the good in my life and Nature. I wish you all a very good week and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. ART NOUVEAU TULIP...

A reaction to academic art of the 19th century was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants, but also in curved lines. Architects tried to harmonize with the natural environment.[3] Art Nouveau is considered a "total" art style, embracing architecture, graphic art, interior design, and most of the decorative arts, as well as the fine arts. According to the philosophy of the style, art should be a way of life. For many well-off Europeans, it was possible to live in an art nouveau-inspired house with art nouveau furniture, silverware, fabrics, ceramics including tableware, jewellery, cigarette cases, etc. Artists desired to combine the fine arts and applied arts, even for utilitarian objects. The Japonisme that was popular in Europe during the 1880s and 1890s was particularly influential on many artists with its organic forms and references to the natural world. IN TOUCH... Tulips.

Not just Tulips,, Frazzled Tulips, LOL. Have FUN, I wish you all the very best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves. Very much appreciated. BASHFUL LOVE...

For December I'm uploading images to do with the festive season. This is many different things...as you can see... Here it's about the colours. THE LOVE KNOT...Tulips

Where there is love there is life - Mahatma Gandhi Modern western knotting literature has the name for these related knots deriving from stories or legends in which the knots symbolise the connection between a couple in love. Many examples feature sailors separated from their beloved. Ashley notes that it was once common for sailors' wedding rings, where gold wire was wrought to incorporate the "true lovers" knot such that resultant ring would comprise two tori: each flexible to move about the other; yet nevertheless inseparable! THE EMBRACE... TULIPS.

Tulips in an embrace, the leaves forming a heart, I spotted them amongst the rest in the bouquet... Although tulips are associated with Holland, both the flower and its name originated in the Persian empire. The tulip, or lale (from Persian lâleh) as it is also called in Turkey, is a flower indigenous to Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and other parts of Central Asia. It is unclear who first brought the flower to Northwest Europe. The most widely accepted story is that of Oghier Ghislain de Busbecq, Ambassador from Ferdinand I to Suleyman the Magnificent of the Ottoman Empire in 1554. He remarks in a letter upon seeing "an abundance of flowers everywhere; Narcissus, hyacinths, and those which in Turkish Lale, much to our astonishment, because it was almost midwinter, a season unfriendly to flowers! In Persian Literature (classic and modern) special attention has been given to these two flowers, in specific likening the beloved eyes to Narges and a glass of wine to Laleh. The word tulip, which earlier in English appeared in such forms as tulipa or tulipant, entered the language by way of French tulipe and its obsolete form tulipan or by way of Modern Latin tulipa, from Ottoman Turkish tülbend, "muslin, gauze". (The English word turban, first recorded in English in the 16th century, can also be traced to Ottoman Turkish tülbend.) FOR ALL THOSE I LOVE... RED RONDO

Fresh flowers, a fresh idea, a fresh image. For professional work, the flowers have to be PERFECT, luckily, for my free work, I love a bit of 'imperfection', adds interest and is less boring! It's like a flower made by flowers, I wanted the light to bring out the sensuous nature of the red tulips. A bunch of cheap tulips eternalised in my own way, hope you enjoy them? RED TULIP TRINITY...

AGAINST THE WALL, TULIP...

This one fell out of the bunch, a broken stem and a petal hanging loose... It looked forlorn, like a wallflower... left behind... I read this: "When your back is against the wall it gives you something to push off from. When your back is against the wall, Look up!" I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen! Have FUN, I wish you all the very best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves. Very much appreciated. THE COLOURS OF CHRISTMAS... MOTHER AND CHILD...

For December I am uploading images to do with the festive season. This is going to be many different things... Personally the colours of Christmas are still (mostly) red, green and white! Another December, almost into another season, in these dark Winter days I need some 'hope' and colour from something!!! LOL. Mutiple tulips... quite rare, so HAD to be photographed! Back to the 'warmer' light. The word tulip, which earlier in English appeared in such forms as tulipa or tulipant, entered the language by way of French tulipe and its obsolete form tulipan or by way of Modern Latin tulīpa, from Ottoman Turkish tülbend, "muslin, gauze". (The English word turban, first recorded in English in the 16th century, can also be traced to Ottoman Turkish tülbend.) IN LOVE...

"In love the paradox occurs that two beings become one and yet remain two." quote by Erich Fromm Valentine's day is getting closer... I know it is mostly about commerce and some are a bit blasé about it, but it is a nice thought, although one day in the year is not enough, in my book, to pay 'special' attention to your partner. Here, in our home, it is Valentine's day EVERY DAY, we give flowers when WE feel like it, which is often... and the... I photograph them so you can enjoy them too! LOL. So another quote from the same author: Not he who has much is rich, but he who gives much. A LOVER'S KNOT...

for the romantic season Where there is love there is life - Mahatma Gandhi I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month. A stylised knot regarded as a symbol of the constancy of two lovers. Also called lovers' knot, true lovers' knot. Modern western knotting literature has the name for these related knots deriving from stories or legends in which the knots symbolize the connection between a couple in love. A TWIST OF ELEGANCE on THE TRADITIONAL... CHRISTMAS COLOURS.

PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME! RED AND GREEN.So Christmassy. The most likely root of the red and green tradition dates back to the 1300s when Adam and Eve’s Day was celebrated on December 24th and on that day, each year churches traditionally presented a Paradise Play depicting the story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. Now you can’t have a story about Adam and Eve without an apple tree? Now as it was impossible to find a real tree full of ripe, red apples during the Winter, someone came up with the idea of fastening apples to the branches of a pine tree. This decorated pine tree represented the Tree of Good and Evil. But the tree wasn’t only seen in the play. Churches began adding a tree donning red apples into their Christmas displays. The decorated tree that began as a prop for the Paradise play was so popular especially in Germany, that people began to put pine trees up in their homes during the holiday, decorating them with red apples, as the church folks had done and the tradition of having a Christmas tree was born. The idea spread and both Christmas trees and the colour combination of red and green were well on its way to becoming official symbols of the Christmas holiday.(Kate Smith) I wish you all the very best, may your wishes come true, and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, faves and likes. PLEASE READ THIS: MY PHOTOS ARE ONLY FOR SALE DIRECTLY FROM ME, VIA THE WEBSITE! HEAD OVER HEELS... MORE MADNESS of the RED TULIPS...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! I 'suffer' from creative 'madness' they love to call 'PASSION', the constant urge to create. I love inventing new images, see how far I can push myself and the medium..., even when I do NOT succeed immediately, it makes me feel good, still always a thrill when I see the finished image, of what I saw with my mind's eye, in front of my very eyes! Some understand my images better than others, but that is fine, different emotions for different people, find your own echo in them. This was what these flowers triggered in me when I took this photo... MADNESS, HEAD OVER HEELS, IN LOVE, SPRING? Isn't imagination a wonderful thing? LOL. Giving my flowers SOUL? My Soul Flowers on youtube I wish you all a very good day and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. WITH ALL MY HEART… TULIP

February= LOVE, romance and beauty month. https://youtu.be/wWNKWHYHon4 One of the most beautiful songs, My funny Valentine sung by Tony Bennett, pure MAGIC... LOL) this time photo-shopped, I gave it a heart, so it could sing to you... Each day is valentine's day...
