SOME BLUE…

#abfav_3 yes, there is some blue in the sky above these three trees, LOL It is an older image, taken on grainy film, to me it looks like a charcoal drawing. It IS colour! END OF SUMMER…

#abfav_lines_stripes Stacked deckchairs. St Ives, Cornwall... end of October… end of Summer... The tables and chairs are empty, the beach reclaimed by the seagulls and the sea by the local fishermen... Gone are the sun worshipers, the children's laughter... The sailing boats safely tucked away for Winter. Only working boats now, men out there, on the wide open waters earning their living... That day was a calm day... with a kind of melancholy... STATUE VIVANTE…

#abfav_lines_stripes I saw this lovely structure in the seawall and asked Paul to go there and pose for me, it is so much better, you get a greater sense of the proportions! The term living statue refers to a mime artist who poses like a statue or mannequin, usually with realistic statue-like makeup, sometimes for hours at a time. This is an art that requires a great deal of patience and physical stamina. Living statue performers have been known to pose as shop window mannequins in order to fool passers by, and a number of hidden camera shows on television have had living statues suddenly spring to life to startle people. As with all performing arts, living statue performers may perform as buskers or in commissioned shows. Some living statues are also invited to perform in fine arts exhibitions. Now you often see them on thestreets. SCARBORO WALL…

#abfav_lines_stripes One of our favourite places; one of the piers in Scarbourough, on the North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast. A medieval Icelandic saga tells how two Icelandic Viking brothers called Kormak and Thorgils were the first men to "establish the fort called Skardaborg". The fort was named after one of its founder’s nicknames, for Thorgils was called Skardi, meaning hare-lipped, by his brother. It is now generally accepted that the name Skardaborg, which has come down to us as Scarborough, means "the fort belonging to Skardi". The port is situated on the East Coast of England at the foot of Scarborough Castle Hill. It has a North and a South bay and 15 km of this coastline is defended by either natural or man-made structures to protect it from the aggressive North Sea environment. The harbour consists of three piers enclosing an outer and an inner basin. The outer basin is mainly used by pleasure boats and the inner basin by commercial fishing and cargo vessels. This photo is of the new parapet of the outer wall, part of the sea defence works of Scarborough's East pier, 5.500 tonnes of stone masonry has been used for repair works. I was on the lower part of the wall, this is the higher parapet behind which is a breakwater of rocks and pieces of concrete forms - called "dolosses". There is no distortion in this photo, the wall is curving like an embrace. Beach-Art 1…

#abfav_lines_stripes We were on the North Sea Coast in The North East of England, Northumberland. Lots of wind, wild seas, STUNNING light, I love walking on beaches and ALWAYS see something that strikes me as Nature's Art... I never move or change anything!I do realise that it is not to everybody's taste, it takes a certain 'eye' to appreciate these. The thing is, I do not take images for other people, not to please anyone, I take them because they touch me... EBB-TIDE at STAITHES…

#abfav_stripes_lines This was taken of the beach of Staithes, from the pier... Please view On Black Staithes is set on the dramatic and beautiful North Yorkshire Heritage Coast and located in the North York Moors National Park. Roxby Beck is the small river running through Staithes and forms the border between the Borough of Scarborough and neighbouring Redcar and Cleveland. Formerly one of the largest and most productive fishing centers in England by the North Sea, Staithes is now largely a tourist destination thanks to its picturesque appearance of brightly coloured and freshly painted cottages. It is also the birthplace of Captain Cook. DOWN, BY THE WATER…

Loch Tay and we have found a nice place to park and walk, get close to the shore, whereas we were driving high up the whole time, enjoying the epic views from above. Low angle, risking camera and limb to get the shot I had in my head, LOL. Loch Tay is a freshwater loch in the central highlands of Scotland, in the Perth, Kinross and Stirling council areas. It is a long, narrow loch of around 14.55 miles (23.42 km) long, and typically around 1 to 1½ miles wide, following the line of the strath from the south west to north east. It is the sixth-largest loch in Scotland by area and over 150 metres (490 ft) deep at its deepest. Ben Lawers on its north shore is, at 1,214 metres (3,983 ft), the tenth-highest mountain in the British Isles, and is the highest peak in a group of seven munros. Killin, where we are staying, is at the head of the loch, and Kenmore at the outflow of the River Tay, are the main settlements on the loch-side today. The loch is fed by the rivers Dochart and Lochay at its head and numerous smaller streams. Loch Tay is a popular spot for salmon fishing. PRIORY ISLAND in LOCH TAY…

#abfav_autumn Taken from the bridge of Kenmore, a small village in Perthshire, in the Highlands of Scotland, located where Loch Tay drains into the River Tay. The village dates from the 16th century. Priory Island in Loch Tay. The largest island in Loch Tay, as being 'at least superficially of artificial construction’, in other words, man-made islands, around 18 in the area, crannogs thousands of years ago. The most easily visible is Priory Island, a wooded crannog at the north end near Kenmore; this was joined to the shore by a causeway, which is now submerged. I Think It's Going To Rain Today…

Randy Newman - https://youtu.be/k9Fn8VhkK5g SCOTLAND… PLEASE ON BLACK. It is early October and we are in Scotland, so the weather is ‘Scottish’… which means, racing clouds, fast showers, lots of light play on the hills and lots of interesting light. As we are high up, we are closer to the sky, so; often the top of the hills are covered in eerie wisps of white cloud. Like a lover’s caress. The weather doesn’t bother us, we take it as it comes, everything has its charms and moods. We stand on the shore of Loch Lubnaig, standing silent, stunned by such beauty, which changes by the second! I capture the rain This is again how it came out of my camera! I’m a ‘purist’, lol Have a beautiful day and thank you for your comments, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) LIGHT-PLAY in the HIGHLANDS…

On our way to the ‘coast’, not far outside Killin; our base, we discover this plain where the river Dochart meanders from one Loch to the next. It is fairly windy, so the clouds are chasing again, playing with the sun, casting shadows on the land. Makes for interesting landscape photography. WELSH GOLD ...

#abfav_autumn An Autumn Sunday in North-Wales. Little winding roads amongst the golden larches, up towards Mount Snowdon, this river surprised me with its golden and indigo colours, the limpid water ice cold and wild. Wales, with its dramatic scenery, is steeped in mystery and romance. Its majestic heather-clad hills cut by cascading waterfalls, and mountain streams rushing through gladed valleys are both the places of legends and of history running back into the mists of time. Yet, beneath the quartzite surface of this jewelled landscape, there is another treasure, as valuable as it is beautiful – Welsh gold. Today, Welsh gold is scarcer than it has ever been. When mining took place at the Clogau St. David’s Gold Mine in the late 1990s it used to cost over £1000 an ounce to extract. UNDER GENTLE RAIN…

#abfav_autumn The bigger picture of the Thick Green Line yesterday. On the right banks the colour is still mostly green ever so slightly turning yellow, also Autumn! It is serenely quiet across the water, and nothing is rippling the surface, so the reflections are smooth. It starts to rain more, but it passes quickly, on the little beach we photograph from, there are trees which give us some protection. Loch Lubnaig is a small freshwater loch near Callander in the Stirling council area, Scottish Highlands. It lies in the former county of Perthshire. It is part of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. It is around 5 km long, and has depths of up to 44.5 metres. The loch nestles in the space between Ben Ledi and Ben Vorlich. GOLD ABOVE THE LOCH…

#abfav_autumn We discover Loch Lubnaig, a nice spot for a break, in between two showers, we are to get a lot of images. Fed by the River Balvaig from the north and drained by the Garbh Uisge to the south, Loch Lubnaig offers fishing from the shore while canoes can be rented at the north end. Alternatively, two car parking areas on the east shore offer perfect, albeit sometimes busy, canoe launching points. A golden Autumn branch decorates my view. MY MAN, KILLIN, AUTUMN…

#abfav_autumn We stayed in Killin, in the heart of Scotland, where you find the Dochart falls in the centre of the village. Our first day, we had seen them upon arrival the night before, but in the morning: beautiful sunlight. What a sight! Many photographers around, so difficult to get ‘empty’ shots, lol. We both enjoyed it tremendously, out of my ’comfort-zone’, but to use a ‘trendy’ cliche! ALSO AUTUMN…

#abfav_autumn Please view on black. Autumn can be a nostalgic season, the closing of another chapter, nature getting ready for the hibernation of Winter. It is the season of mist and fog, moodiness, mystery. Sometimes you have to guess what is there, use your imagination.LOL The clouds were low and euh, we were high… High up the hills, where you could almost touch the skies, wonderful. A LONE TREE in AUTUMN…

#abfav_autumn A strong survivor! A more atmospheric day, with rain, which made for interesting moody images. The soft side of Loch Lomond...

We stop to enjoy the stunning views of Loch Lomond, variable weather conditions make it interesting. Loch Lomond (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Laomainn) is a freshwater Scottish loch (=lake) which crosses the Highland Boundary Fault. It is the largest inland stretch of water in Great Britain by surface area. “Oh, ye'll tak the high road, and I'll tak the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye; But me and my true love will never meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond.” Type: freshwater loch, ribbon lake, dimictic Primary inflows: Endrick Water, Fruin Water, River Falloch Primary outflows; River Leven Max. length : 24 mi (39 km) Max. width : 5 mi (8.0 km) Surface area: 27 sq mi (70 km2) Average depth: 121 ft (37 m) Max. depth: 620 ft (190 m) Surface elevation: 25 ft (7.6 m) Islands: 60 (Inchcailloch, Inchmurrin, Inchfad) Settlements: Balloch, Ardlui, Balmaha, Luss, Rowardennan, Tarbet Wishing you a colourful day and thanks for commenting, always appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS : www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) OLD MANSE…

On our explorations in the heart of Scotland, on the less touristy side of Loch Tay, we discovered a lovely, unchartered waterfall called Old Manse. The ‘hills’ around here are over 3000ft (over 1000m), so you can imagine that IS a LOT of water running down to te Loch, from those that are Moors and not forested, Wishing you a colourful day and thanks for commenting, always appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS : www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) MAGIC CELLARIUM, FOUNTAINS ABBEY…

The Vaulted Cellarium is where stores of food were kept, because here they would stay cool, dry, and out of the sunlight. In fact, it was one very large pantry. If you walk beneath its arches at dusk on a summer evening, you’re more than likely to encounter one of the eight species of bat that have been reported around the Abbey. The later it is, the better the light gets, another prime example here. Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. Near Ripon in North Yorkshire. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for 407 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries. FIELDS OF GOLD…

#abfav_summer_theme You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in the fields of gold So she took her love For to gaze awhile Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold... The first two verses of the song by Sting. My whole life people have commented on the colour of my hair, that it looked like a field when the grain is ripe! The wind was blowing in from the sea, we were driving through these fields that only end at the crumbling coast of Thornwick bay. Chasing the lovely light it looked like the perfect moment and scene. #abfav_summer_theme A sultry and hot Summer's day, light quite flat. DONKEY RIDE ANYONE?

#abfav_summer_theme Scarborough, South-Bay beach. Donkey rides are a traditional feature of seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. Children are allowed to ride donkeys on a sandy beach for a fee in summer months while on holiday, normally led in groups at walking pace. Typically, the donkeys have their names on their harnesses so they can be identified by children and parents alike. Donkey rides have been available since 1886 in Weston Super Mare and since 1895 in Bridlington. The tradition started in Victorian times. It is now only for children. Still a massive sign of Summer! ON THE BEACH…

#abfav_2_together_theme 'Robert-Emmerson'... Went back, at last... to Flamborough's Smuggler's Cove. Remembering Robert with great fondness, a smile and an ache around my heart. Happy to see that his name lives on. As do the traditions. Yet, that lovely place will never be the same again for us... ...His eyes shone when he told me of all the boats belonging to him and his family, they had lovely names, like ‘Madeleine Isabella’ and their signature is a white rose, proudly on the bow , the Yorkshire symbol!... The coble is a type of open fishing boat which developed on the North East coast of England. The distinctive shape of the boat — flat-bottomed and high-bowed — arose to cope with the particular conditions prevalent in this area. Flat bottoms allow launching from and landing upon shallow, sandy beaches; an advantage in this part of the coast where the wide bays and inlets provide little shelter from stormy weather. However, fishermen required high bows to sail in the dangerous North Sea and in particular to launch into the surf and to land on the beaches. The design contains relics of Norse influence, though in the main it shows Dutch origin. LES OMBRELLES des AMOUREUX...

#abfav_2_together_theme Sunday, Scarborough, beach, hot... Two young lovers lying amongst the crowds. Hidden a little behind these colourful 'parasols'. Such an attractive accent. It was not easy to find the right angle, to 'isolate' them, to leave the couple their privacy, but after some patience (a BIG virtue in a photographer!LOL), I got what I wanted. RED SKY AT NIGHT...

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme CONSTANTINE BAY, Cornwall. This is the first part of the weather-lore rhyme: Red sky at night; shepherd's delight, Red sky in the morning; shepherd's warning... The 'red sky at night' rhyme is more than an old wives' tale though and has some meteorological foundation - in England at least. Sometimes the phrase involves sailors rather than shepherds - both have a more than usual interest in the weather! The end of a beautiful day, saturated with fresh air, warm sun, visual joy and lots of good photography. We had to drive fast from Padstow to get the sun in the right place, we were 'the original sunset-chasers', tee hee. We made it in time, of course I have the 'by the second' disappearance of the sun into the sea, however it was the other beauty surrounding it that interested me most! Like this afterglow, that panoply of stunning colours. I hadn't bothered to bring my tripod, just found myself a spot to sit, rested my elbows on my knees and held my breath... THANX FOR VIEWING, as ALWAYS, much appreciated. #ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME URBAN REFRACTIONS… And reflections in Liverpool. A GENTLE AUTUMN...

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme Scarborough, on the North-Yorkshire Heritage coast has a bit of a strange lay-out, pleasant? VERY! It has a North bay, more for the locals, surfers and on the top all the hotels with a fabulous view in front of them. Then there is the point sticking out into the sea, dividing this from the South bay, where all the fun is, the Fair, the harbours, both yachting and fishing, the arcades , Fish&Chips shops, ice-cream parlours, the donkeys... Now ON that point you have the old (ruin) castle, and a small church with very old graves, lovingly maintained, that's where we ventured that day! Behind all of that, the shops and businesses. A lovely, mellow Autumn Sunday-afternoon... Hope you have a great w-e. THE EUPHONIUMS...

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_STREET_ACTIVITY_THEME It is a well-known fact that England is a land of traditions and proudly so! Due to the faster pace and changes in the current times, many are finding it harder to keep going. Society is changing more rapidly than ever. The famous Brass Bands are finding it hard to find young musicians… So it was extremely pleasant, last summer, to discover that in the many parks, in and around the city where we live, every Sunday afternoon, brass bands were to give concerts! ...but it was rather melancholic to hear that oooh so specific sound and the old sweet tunes floating through the leaves as the rains started, people sought refuge inside the small caf, while quite a few listeners brought out their raincoats and umbrellas, and stoically stayed put, like the band, who kept on playing! This was the Euphoniums' section, the image fits in with my latest blog about the importance of hands in portrait photography. I STAND, ALONE?

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY... A very personal image. This is what makes me tick, an alternative and beyond the obvious view of things, I'm not claiming it is unique, just that it is what I favour the most, my vision. Cornwall, Padstow, Easter Sunday… so many people in the narrow streets, eating and drinking, soaking up the local atmosphere, the warmth of the sun. Me, I’m not too fond of crowds (I guess not many photographers are?), had been walking the different quays, taking a few photos as souvenirs, I knew that Padstow, also being a fishing harbour had to have another side to it. As I eventually came to it, of course it was prohibited to the public… I defied the law, broke it and walked on, that’s where the good stuff was, a few fishermen looked at me a bit suspiciously, but nothing a smile couldn’t fix, hihi. I know most of you will not 'see' what I see in it, it is 'more' to me, but that's ok, photography is a personal matter, I have to love it in the first place, in my 'free' photography I take images for myself, images that will mean something to me! And if others like it... well, that is a bonus! I found myself standing on the edge of the quay, above a dredger, looking down at the sand in the hull, I looked up, the shadow of a huge crane behind me, light... shadow, colour, composition...photography... GETTING TO KNOW YOU…

#abfav_2_together_theme Getting to know you, Getting to know all about you. Getting to like you, Getting to hope you like me. Excerpt From The King and I (By Rodgers and Hammerstein ) Dogs have their own language to show each other their feelings: they tell if they want to play or prefer to be left alone, if they are afraid or confident, if they are dominant or submissive. When a dog sees how the other feels, it can react in the right way and avoid conflict. Walking with your eyes wide open, you ALWAYS see something of interest to photograph. TOP HAT...

#abfav_films_songs https://youtu.be/RZOJoV6H2UM Both film and song… Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. There are few photographers (well, I never met one) who really ‘enjoy’ taking wedding photos, probably because it is ALWAYS nerve-racking, now with digital cameras maybe a little less so, no fiddling and keeping track of your film, you can quickly check if you have got the right (?) moment with good expressions, but there are still moments during the ceremony that you only have literally ONE shot at… Yet wedding photography is a massive part of the industry, very important for the couple, and a great record for posterity, look how things have changed over the years, the clothes, make-up and hair, the flowers AND the style of photography! Also often it’s the only time families are together in a photograph, the older people can come out of the retirement home and are cherished and pampered for the day, the babies are cooed over, the young children run riot to the despair of their parents who had hoped for a day ‘off’. As the photographer, I cannot resist constantly looking for the ‘personal’ shots, the image that will make it ALL worth while for me as a creative… I’ve made it my ‘game’, to come away from each wedding with a different imaginative image, thing is, when the couple see it, it often becomes their favourite very quickly, tee hee. This is one of them, the ceremony was over, everybody had arrived for the reception before the meal. The men, feeling a bit awkward, couldn’t wait to get rid of the top hats, put them on a chair; the sun came in through the window, people started to come in, I had only a brief moment to take this, how could I resist, he? I wish you a day full of love and joy, and thanks for commenting, always very appreciated, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work visit here: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

SO VERY BRITISH...

#abfav_favourite_street_activity_theme More fun for today? Flamborough, the parking next to Smuggler's Cove. I had just had my usual chat with my good friend, fisherman Robert, I had bought one of his tasty, fresh crabs off him, for later. I saw those two going up, in, let's say, dress code of another era, as they walked on, I saw the reason why, the strangest car I ever saw, half rocket/ half... #ABFAV_FAVOURITE_STREET_ACTIVITY_THEME AAAHHHH THE FUN I have! Many people are 'dressed' the part!!! I could not resist taking a quick shot of this scene, one gent waiting for his pals... his boots had seen ACTION and the red socks were sexy and he knew it!!!!!!! Taken in beautiful Grassington. For those interested: Limestone hills and dry-stone walls in the west of the Yorkshire Dales. This part of the national park is popular with walkers due to the presence of the Yorkshire three peaks. In 1954 an area of 1,770 square kilometres (680 sq mi) was designated the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Most of the National Park is in North Yorkshire, though part lies within Cumbria. However, the whole park lies within the historic boundaries of Yorkshire, divided between the North Riding and the West Riding. The park is 50 miles (80 km) north east of Manchester; Leeds and Bradford lie to the south, while Kendal is to the west and Darlington to the east. The area has a large collection of activities for visitors. For example, many people come to the Dales for walking. The National Park is crossed by several long-distance routes including the Pennine Way, the Dales Way, the Coast to Coast Path and the latest national trail of the Pennine Bridleway. ARE YOU GOING TO SCARBOROUGH FAIR...

#abfav_holidays_theme 1. About the song: the arrangement made famous by Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair/Canticle originated in the late 19th century. Paul Simon learned it in 1965 in London from Martin Carthy and set it in counterpoint with Canticle, a reworking of Simon's 1963 song The Side Of a Hill with new, anti-war lyrics. It was the title track of the 1966 album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, and was released as a single after featuring on the soundtrack to The Graduate in 1968. 2. About the Fair: during late medieval times the seaside resort of Scarborough was an important venue for tradesmen from all over England. It was host to a huge forty-five day trading event, starting August 15, which was exceptionally long for a fair in those times. People from all over England, and even some from the continent, came to Scarborough to engage in business. The traditional 'Scarborough Fair' no longer exists but a number of low key celebrations take place every September to mark the original event. This is the children's Fair at the foot of Scarborough Castle Hill, in the evening light, next to the harbour. Scarborough, one of our favourite haunts. FOR MOVEMBER. Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide. I now have taken on the challenge, one photo each day: a month of men with moustache and beard, LOL, HELP, will I make it? Poole, Dorset. A magnificent and elegant sailing boat came gliding in called 'Overlord'. This is the skipper who had his colourful crew well in hand and looked like a formidable man. SO LOVINGLY RESTORED and MAINTAINED...

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme When two photographers are at the same scene... two different views! Pickering, North-Yorkshire... Most of the passengers may not realise how reliant upon volunteers the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is. DUBLIN ART...

#abfav_favourite_street_activity_theme Street photography is not only, doggies and sweetness eh? That is where we are often faced with the HARD REALITY... Beer and Can culture ? Nowadays, sadly, wherever you'll come across the junk and litter people have discarded negligently, EVERYWHERE! Are we the only animals who soil their nest? Well, I was raised differently and it angers me, yet realising their is little that I could do about it and that the emotion was detrimental to my wellbeing, I started to use it in a 'creative' way, a different approach... GARDEN ZEN…

#abfav_lines_stripes I upload this to thank you all for your understanding, sensitivity and creativity with which you so often regaled me. I photographed this small corner of our garden; I enjoyed creating it, now I have the joy of seeing it. I love the way the light plays with the circles. The incoming leaves are left in the composition deliberately, nothing is ever 100% perfect, why should it, those small imperfections can make something even more endearing and worthwhile! "TRON" ...

#abfav_films_songs "TRON" is one of the first movies to make extensive use of any form of computer animation, and is celebrated as a milestone in the industry; but only fifteen to twenty minutes of such animation were used. Technology is the driving force of the 21st century. The software to manipulate photos can be fun, it is helpful technology... we ALL have to try it, see what it can do... I make no qualms about the fact that I am a purist in photography, I am old school and it often breaks my heart to see a good image so massacred by layers and filters. And then call it Fine Art??? AAhh well, just to show that I also tried it out... This image was taken on a bridge over one of the busiest motorways in the UK. For a split second, it was 'empty' except for this bike speeding towards me... sheer luck! All ON THE GO…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME KINGS CROSS STATION LONDON... Springs mean travel/holiday for many, not only the birds that trek South, lol. Sitting on a low wall, waiting on Sunday noon, King’s Cross Station in London, it was stifling hot. Instead of being bored and impatient, I decided to pass the time being 'creative'... I noticed all the people hurrying by and also, especially, that EVERYBODY was lugging bags, lots of bags, of all types, colours and designs. Spotted, striped, floral, classic, coloured. I wondered, what were they all transporting? Can we not go anywhere without our ‘wheeled’ carriers? Often not one but more, backpacks, plastic, leather, designed, handbags, so many. All different, just like the people, their shoes, legs and leg wear! I saw people traveling alone, in pairs, in group, I saw them smile, I saw them laugh, I saw some cry, I saw some depressed and some tired, people of all walks of life. I saw hellos and I saw good-byes... all the emotions ... I became smilingly fascinated and eventually left feeling a great sense of joy because of this series. I feel so biased, I like them ALL, LOL, thanx, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to purchase, visit here: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide. I now have taken on the challenge, one photo each day: a month of men with moustache and beard, LOL, HELP, will I make it? This is Sir Chris Bonnington giving a lecture on his conquest of Everest. He's a very soft spoken man, slim and even a bit gauche. I asked him to pose before and after the lecture. Here he's in front of a projection screen, looking up to the heavens, reliving his adventure, transported to another world, it's good to accompany him on his interesting, adventurous, often perilous voyages. This was what I was after, the twinkle in his eyes, the joy in his voice, the smile around the lips, the Himalayas right behind his forehead. I greatly admire him for his endurance and determination. WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR...

#abfav_summer_theme Early Summer in Bridlington, on the North East Heritage Coast, while Paul was enjoying his fish and chips (a MUST when you go there), I was 'people scanning'. Now I had spotted this couple earlier, sitting in the sunshine on the wall that separates the sea from the harbour, chatting and eating something. Picking up my camera, they started to walk away, she still eating her cream bun, giving him her handbag to carry. I was *$?&^%, aah for 2 seconds more!!! I took the shot anyway. The words of this Beatles song swirled through my head: When I'm 64 When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now, Will you still be sending me a Valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine? If I'd been out 'till quarter to three, would you lock the door? Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I'm sixty-four? Etc… When I developed the film and saw this one, yes, another ‘difficult’ neg I think I came away with a better shot. Circumstances, he? And remember, a great photograph is mostly about emotion (in my book anyway). AAAHHH, TO STAND AND STARE… in WALES

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ "LEISURE" What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare as long as sheep or cows. No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty's glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began. A poor life this is, if full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. By Wm. Henry Davies The sun and the fat clouds were playing hide and seek, displaying a delightful show of light and dark. Ahh, to stand and stare... This beautiful place is in North Wales. This is up the Great Orme (Y Gogarth), a high peninsula and a spectacular limestone headland which rises above Llandudno on the coast of North Wales to a height of 200m (679ft). Behind her are the hills from the National park, they grow into higher mounts, the peak is Mount Snowdon, 1085m, the highest mountain in England and Wales. This is the view from 'almost' at the top, looking down and facing South, on the left is Conwy Bay, on the (straight} horizon Anglesey. There is a timeless and carefree feel to this place, your lungs are so full of fresh air it fills your head too, leaving no room for life's woe. If you want to get high and forget all your troubles, put things back into perspective, go to the top of the Great Orme, stand there, tears streaming down your cheeks. Wind? Joy? Emotion? The wind? Probably all of it. Who cares, it just made it more difficult to look through the viewer, ha. Taken with my Nikon F4, on 400 Iso film, hence the 'grain', which I often favoured. FULL MOON...

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SKIES_THEME It was the day after the Super Moon. The moon was in and out, playing with the clouds. Waiting for the midnight ferry in Dover, to take us across the Channel to the Continent/France. One hour late because of delays caused by the storm the previous day and night. The North-Sea, Channel can be treacherous. We just had a 6 hour drive South behind us, with rain and wind and road-works! I was looking forward to seeing family and friends. #ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME The South side of the bay, towards Kettleness. Runswick Bay has been inhabited since before Roman times, as burial mounds found on the moors behind the village suggest. This secluded village, which is hidden from the main road, has only a handful of permanent residents therefore providing a quieter than average retreat. LITTLE THORNWICK BAY…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME At high tide. Thornwick Bay is located on the Yorkshire Coastline on the north of Flamborough Head near Bridlington. A headland and magnificent cliffs with two bays of shingle, pebbles and flint. The large bay is Thornwick Bay and the small one, Little Thornwick Bay. This beautiful cliff top park sits on part of Flamborough Cliffs nature reserve and is home to seabird colonies nesting on its chalk cliffs, so it’s ideal for enjoying uninterrupted sea views or spotting wildlife. A great place all year round to recharge your batteries. This was in Summer, and the last of the sun that day… All had gone quiet except for some shrieking of the gulls. A SUMMER'S EVE …THORNWICK Bay

(pronounced Thornick... welcome to Yorkshire, lol) Thornwick Bay derives it's name from "Thor" the God of Thunder because of the roar of the breaking waves on the rocks during a North Easterly gale which pounds the magnificent cliffs. In the winter when the winds are strong and the weather is bad, when the waves hit the rocks, foam and spray blows up the cliff and over the cafe, but thankfully most people come to visit in the Spring, Summer and Autumn months when the weather is much calmer, and people can sit on the cliff top and admire the fantastic scenery and watch the sun reflect off the brilliant white chalk cliffs which have been cleaned by the winter storms over thousands of years. The stretch of water North of the Lighthouse was named the graveyard by the skippers and crew of sailing vessels which once they had lost the safety of Bridlington Bay, and without the aids of navigation and weather forecasting which we now take for granted, were at the mercy of the angry weather, Marine charts show hundreds of wrecks all within a few miles radius of Thornwick bay. Much more information can be found in the book "Shipwrecks off the Yorkshire Coast". A great many people visit Thornwick Bay each year to enjoy wonderful cliff top walks observing the abundance of seabirds including Puffins, Guillemots and Kittiwakes etc. Flamborough Head is an official bird observatory. Scuba diving continues to be extremely popular with many organisations and clubs. Always you have the 'risk-takers' who will venture and walk the very narrow and crumbly ridge to get to the furthest point. Do you spot this one? SMUGGLER'S COVE...

February, still the beauty that surrounds us in everything for those willing to see. I decided to upload a series of landscapes, gathered over the years. Mostly in the UK. Most of them have never seen the light of day, because my flower photography has overtaken my world somewhat. And much as I love it, my ‘other’ photography is as important to me. So, here goes. FLAMBOROUGH, probably our favourite 'haunt', the weather and colours typical 'North-Sea'... We both grew up on the Coast (different Continents!!!), with the sea, its pleasures and its dangers. This wonderful place is on the North-Yorkshire Heritage coast. You have Flamborough Head with the lighthouse, The North Landing = Smuggler's Cove, you can see where it gets its name, when the tide is out, you can get into the caves, and then, The South Landing where the Life guards have their house and boat. All within a mile from each other, three different places entirely, in the center you'll find a small village. In time you'll get to know its beauty, through the seasons ALWAYS special, its people, birds and superb views, changing with the weather, influencing the -all so important- light! The cliffs are limestone... WAVE PLAY in FLAMBOROUGH…

#ABFAV_WATER_THEME Taken at Flamborough, this is up North, Yorkshire, the North-Sea, but no matter, a wave is a wave is a wave, where ever... Always different and never-ending, they keep on rolling in. I love them and can sit staring at them for hours. Love the smell, the sound, the spectacle. The wind was playing with the water, the sun was playing with the colours, the gulls were playing with wind and water in the sunlight. Hope you have a lovely day and thank you for your comments, Magda, (*_*) Thanx for all your words, time, comments and faves. Very much appreciated. WILD WATERS of CORNWALL…

AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ The Northern Coast of Cornwall, St Ives Bay, away from the town, the churning waters of the ocean beating the rocks again and again. A sea fast and furious. It looks beautiful and scary at the same time, you feel, hear and see the force of the water. Mesmerising, another where I stand and stare in fascination . COLOURS OF AYSGARTH FALLS…

#ABFAV_WATER_THEME These Falls are in the North Yorkshire national park 'The Yorkshire Dales'. Aysgarth is best known for its breathtaking triple flight of waterfalls, carved out by the River Ure on its descent to mid-Wensleydale. They are very popular and spectacular, can also be very dangerous when it's been raining a lot and the water comes gushing down the surrounding mountains and hills. They have been photographed to death, so I wanted something different... I was extremely attracted and fascinated by the colours, the indigo and amber, the chaud/froid and also the force of the water. Sand Water Art...

#ABFAV_WATER_THEME On a beach in Cornwall. I see things forever, my imagination in overdrive... I could happily spend a whole afternoon, gazing at the patterns, made by the wind, drawing the water over the sand in ever-changing fantasies, hope you enjoy them too. I moved on to where the delta had formed, the water flowing in different directions, making more and more patterns, I saw the blue reflection of the sky and all the lovely tones that got created in both sand and water, all I had to be careful of now the whole time was not to have my own shadow in the picture, so I was turning around a lot, also to get the right angle, you know I love to make my comp in camera. St MICHAEL’S MOUNT, Cornwall…

#abfav_holidays_theme Did you know that Cornwall has the counterpart of the Mont St Michel in Cornwall? Historically, St Michael's Mount was a Cornish counterpart of Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France (with which it shares the same tidal island characteristics and the same conical shape, in spite of being much smaller), when it was given to the Benedictine religious order of Mont Saint-Michel by Edward the Confessor in the 11th century. The causeway between the mount and Marazion was improved in 1879 by raising it by one foot (30 cm) with sand and stones from the surrounding area. When the tide comes in, you have to access or leave the Mount by boat (to come!). WHEAL COATES TIN MINE… CORNWALL

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME We drove the 8 hours through the night all the way to this beautiful part of Britain, Cornwall. On the North Coast you have the Atlantic which is rough and stunning, full of history, coves and caves, piracy, smuggling, adventure and mystery… The weather was warm, well this is the ‘English Riviera’, a bit hazy, the birds were out and the land dotted with all kinds of colours due to all the blossoms and flowers, more summer than here up North where we live. Without sleep, we explored the area immediately, the adrenaline and excitement kept us awake and alert! This view was a glorious reward. St Agnes has an extremely rich mining history due to the high quality tin found in the area. The mining trail begins at the famous Wheal Coates tin mine on the cliffs near Chapel Porth and that mine goes all the way down to the sea and at high tide you can hear the waves crashing against the rocks through a grate on the floor of the ruin. This mine shaft is accessible through a large cave at the far end of Chapel Porth beach at low tide. Legend has it that Wheal Coates is haunted by the ghosts of the miners that have tragically lost their lives whilst working in its depths... Most of the mining activity was along the coast. EASTER BUNNIES…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME Aah, at last, Spring and that first time your feet touch the still very cold water, what a thrill! I can feel this in his image. Chapel-Porth in Cornwall, Easter Monday. SWEET SUMMERTIME...

#abfav_summer_theme Flamborough, Smuggler’s Cove. We chose to drive to the Coast that afternoon, because inland it was too hot and an important England football match was on, so, we knew the roads and places would be quiet... Of course there were people there just like us... When I look at my image I realise what I, as a photographer, do. Out of this whole scene with fishermen docking the boats safely (in a hurry, they wanted to see the match), sunning mums affectionately watching their sons clamber and clown around in the water, a father throwing the ball for the dog and his little girl dancing with youth, this is the scene I distilled from all that. Yes I extract, it is now a different mood, only a fraction and extraction of the reality. A personal observation, a moment that caught my interest, mmmmmmmmmmm. I was smiling, the girl and the dog were having such a great time, I included the left of the ripples, they are important. LES GIRLS…

#abfav_summer_theme THE SUMMER OF OUR YOUTHS… AAAHHH yes... I remember it well. These three little girls were gathering seaweed. There giggles and laughter skating across the water and echoing off the walls, sheltering the beach in this bay. The water was blue and limpid, the sun was caressingly warm, the sky was wide and clear. Life can be so good! Summertime... and the living is easy... Le Petit Pêcheur et son chien…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME Staithes, North-Yorkshire Heritage Coast... we had combed the beaches, the quay-sides, boats, we'd met new people and chatted, yes taken loads of images. The tide was coming in fast, the sun was getting lower... we rested out in the shade on a bench, before going for a meal, taking it all in, when this little chap in a bright yellow T-shirt, green net over his shoulder, accompanied by his faithful friend appeared in front of us... THE POOL in FILEY…

#ABFAV_WATER_THEME I always am very aware of the goings-on around me. We had parked the car, when I spotted this surreal image, a boy in the middle of a ‘swimming-pool’, on the edge of the majestic escape you get in Filey. This was on our way back from Flamborough. Filey, a calm North-Sea under one of the beautiful skies of North-Yorkshire, the Heritage Coast... Filey is a small town and civil parish. Historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire, it is part of the borough of Scarborough between Scarborough and Bridlington on the North Sea coast. Although it was a fishing village, it has a large beach and became a popular tourist resort. It has an oldy-worldy feel. I wish you all a very good day and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. PIER-LHOUETTE…

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme GOOD TIMES Scarborough, on the end of the pier, a group of young guys had gathered for a relaxing pastime, fishing. Lovely but strange weather, I was in the sunshine, the sea mist was creeping in. The sun WON!!! And it created a magic mood, the low hanging mist, the sometimes hazy sun, all the ingredients to create a special moody light. On the other side, on the top of the cliffs, above the fog, the houses and hotels overlooking the South-Bay, basking in light, made this image quite unusual. THE GREEN NET…

#abfav_summer_theme We arrived in Scarborough just in time for the 'sweet' light. This is the first image I took at the actual harbour. An ancient cobbled ramp to roll the boats in the water, a dad with his kids, fishing... The little girl, apprehensive and not touching anything slimy, she firmly held onto her green net... SUMMER HOLIDAYS…

#abfav_holidays_theme This boy was fishing from one of the harbour walls in Scarborough... Anywhere you go in the world the same scene you will see, some in groups, laughing, joking and a bit loud... and then: the 'loner', silent and focus-intense, oblivious of the world around him! I remember the hours, ney... days, spent on the wave-breakers of my youth, first look for mussels on rocks, open it with my knife, the smell of fresh sea penetrating my nose with euphoria, knot the string, find myself a good rock pool, be careful not to make any shadow, as not to scare them, carefully lower the bait and patiently wait for the crab to come out and put its claws well around the mussel, haul it in, and put it in my bucket with the others. Return them to the sea before I went home, maybe to be caught again tomorrow? READY and WAITING FOR SUMMER...

#abfav_favourite_spring_theme ... taken on the beach of the South-Bay in Scarborough. We only arrived later in the afternoon, because we prefer the evening light and there are already less people. I had seen this image from the car, quickly found a parking space and walked back along the promenade, there was a hazy sunshine and a lovely soft breeze, which made it perfect. REFLECTIONS of THE GRAND in SCARBOROUGH

The Grand Hotel in Scarborough is an astonishing building overlooking the harbour and South Bay. I photographed it with these beautiful reflections on the beach, just after the place is undergoing a 7 million pound refurbishment. Originally constructed in 1863, it was one of Europe's first purpose-built hotels, with a design based on time; 4 towers - the 4 seasons, 12 floors - the months, 52 chimneys for the weeks and 365 bedrooms for the days of the year! It is a beautiful example of grand Victorian architecture and totally dominates its surroundings. I decided to upload a series of landscapes, gathered over the years. Mostly in the UK. Most of them have never seen the light of day, because my flower photography has overtaken my world somewhat. And much as I love it, my ‘other’ photography is as important to me. FILEY BAY WATERS…

Sometimes you encounter this weather phenomenon, that the sky goes dark and the whites so blindingly stark. super contract, beautiful Filey is a wholly unique, quiet and quite beautiful, small seaside town on the picturesque North Yorkshire coast. Between Bridlington and Scarborough, it is often - and to its benefit - overlooked. February, still the beauty that surrounds us in everything for those willing to see. FOGGY FINGERS...

#abfav_holidays_theme We left Whitby because of the incoming sea mist. The light gone, not dressed on this lovely summer's day for the sudden cold that suddenly enveloped us, we decided to go inland to capture the sunset. The road took us passed Robin Hood's Bay. Now, on that part of the beautiful Heritage Coast, you drive along the top of the cliffs, you are high up, it was sunny again, we gave into the temptation and turned in, with Nature, you never know, maybe it was just around Whitby... You have to park your car above the village and walk down. Before we arrived there we wanted to let our dog out, I followed the white plume of his tail as he wandered off into a field full of wildflowers, nettles and brambles, to my amazement this was the scene that unfolded in front of my feasting eyes, the mist was already grabbing the church. I ran for my camera, back just in time for this. Underneath that thick blanket are the bay and the sea. View On Black By the time Paul got his gear out, that day he had decided on a Hasselblad-day+ tripod... everything was covered in mist Hope your day is clear, thanks for viewing, Magda, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) ON SADDLEWORTH MOOR…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME Pennine Way. Saddleworth, on the northern English Pennine hill-range, in the area of Oldham near Manchester and Huddersfield/ Halifax in Yorkshire. Once you are in that area no matter where you walk or drive, it's just one awesome view after another. The higher parts of the moors are largely cloaked in one of the best areas of heather moorland to be found in England if not the UK. Dowry Reservoir, on Saddleworth Moor. We drove though this majestic, barren landscape one Sunday, the clouds were again racing in the blue sky, which always make the landscape even more interesting because of the fast changing light play on the flanks, bringing out the shapes of the hills and the bold folds created over the centuries. It was a good harvest; we came home fulfilled, windblown and glowing. ONCE EVERY YEAR… BLOSSOMS

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME SPLENDOUR ON THE GREEN. Last year on a Saturday evening we drove to Harrogate, a pleasant spa town to the south-east of the Yorkshire Dales, famous for its tea shops (like Betty’s), flower shows, Turkish baths, antique shops and gardens. A very 'oldy worldy' place with a particular atmosphere. Once a year in this huge green, the rows of trees lining the paths explode in splendour, the cherry trees. They criss-cross the lovely grassy field. The first time we came across them... we were too late. The next year... some trees had been chopped because of disease, leaving huge gaps... The next year we forgot... The next year it was a dreadful Spring with late frost, the blossoms hardly came out, a merciless storm threw them to the ground... The next year we kept hearing on the news that although the money had been raised and the young trees planted to restore this visual feast, some vandals came and cracked the saplings... Last year we forgot again… This year, WE MADE IT!!! The sky had been a milky soft box the whole day, but I sensed a glimmer of 'more', as everyone went home, the 'sun' came out gently for a while. It was wonderful, the tender full blossoms ever so gently swaying in the warm evening light, walking in wonderland, so beautiful… so fleeting. The next day it was windy, across from our house; the neighbours have a Cherry tree… most of the petals now a pink carpet on the ground… grab it while it's there! Just a few of the images I came home with, a flavour of the opulence with which I was surrounded, what a feast for all the senses. THE CHERRY TREE…

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_PLACES_THEME It was a glorious day, the sun was out with some clouds in the sky. That is always good as it means that on the hills of the Yorkshire Dales and Moors you will have those moving light-patches, plus that it won't be hazy, so when you're higher up you'll see the hills roll on and on. We drove up to Malham, a very interesting place... This was on our way back, we had driven, walked and photographed for hours in a barren and arid landscape, on the Moors, the sun had already dropped behind the higher ridges, this was Upper Wharfedale, I was on the right side, driving home, the river Wharfe below and then the bank on the left going up again, when I spotted this, first it was the luscious green waves that caught my eye, then, I saw the cherry tree. I needed the tripod, AND the 300mm, so there's a lot of a wonderful compression, all in all a great moment for me, an image I'd been after for a long time. Most of them have never seen the light of day, because my flower photography has overtaken my world somewhat. And much as I love it, my ‘other’ photography is as important to me. So, here goes. A sultry and hot Summer's day, light quite flat. The lone tree on the top of the ridge of the hill did not look particularly big or strong, it wasn’t even leaning, no winds had bent it although this was quite near the coast of the North Sea, but no, still standing straight! I often feel like that tree... THE ENCHANTED WOOD…

#abfav_autumn To my grandchildren, on a visit from the Continent, this was an enchanting and enchanted wood! They ran through the rustling carpet, collected coloured leaves, conkers and chestnuts, pine-cones, saw the squirrels, all the things that kids love to do in Autumn. Have a super day, I know I will, and thanks for your comments, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) THE SKEW BARN...

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme Shadows on the land. Through the Yorkshire Dales on our way to Grassington, for the Dickensian Christmas market. The sky was ominous and the light dramatic on the shortest day. The landscape, as usual, fabulous in any season, with those shadows cast by the clouds moving like a painter's hands across the fields and hills. THE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE MOORS…

This is above Dowry Reservoir, on Saddleworth Moor. Saddleworth Moor is in the South Pennines in North West England. February, still the beauty that surrounds us in everything for those willing to see. THE LONE TREE…

#abfav_monochrome ZEN? We walked through a beautiful park called 'Golden Acres' when I saw this tree; everything was green, including the trunk of the tree, from the recent moisture and moss. It had something of the Japanese drawings, I saw it in nothing but B&W, I saw this image like this here in my mind before I even took the photo. Apparently that's what makes it art... if it is a preconceived idea, the rest is photojournalism! Must find that article and refer you to it! LOL!
