#abfav_monochrome When we're out together, Paul does most of the driving. Me, I look around and love the challenge of shooting images from the car... hit and miss, but I have a whole series of 'hits' now and even more 'misses'... hihi, and I had a lot of fun! DID YOU KNOW?

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme THE MAGIC FLOOR-WINDOW, 9 stories high! On the bridge of a big ferry, in the floor… A WINDOW!!! That caught my eye, a long window encased in metal frames, on both sides, in the floor. Standing on it you see the bow waves rushing way down, 9 decks, it is breath-taking, what a feature! I was mesmerised and kept photographing it from all angles. They use them to ‘park’ the ship! The captain was thrilled to tell us about the dolphins, who on a fine calm day, in a specific area of the Strait, would be surfing in the bow waves, fetching a free ride and visible through the magic floor-windows. I added the feet for more impact. I wish you all the best. thanx for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) FROM AND ON THE NAUSIKAA...

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme We sailed a couple of times on this beautiful tall ship. A door on the Nausikaa, I loved all the handles. This is again a very graphic shot that somehow not everybody seems to enjoy, because it's not the norm... When I see something like this, haaaa, hhhmmmm, I just cannot resist it. I carefully composed this, patience is a photographic virtue! LOL. Be happy and thanx for visiting. #ABFAV_FAVOURITE_REFLECTIONS_THEME URBAN REFRACTIONS… And reflections in Liverpool. Waiting at the traffic lights... the corner building had a rounded mirror-glass facade, I loved what I saw, grabbed my camera... the lights changed to green... onto the next... I get a kick out of this type of challenge, only ONE chance, you either got it spot on, that is mainly the comp, or it's a complete flop, that is ; MOVING….. unsharp Yes, hit and miss stuff, but fun! Mid-Summer-window in Bruges…

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme It is always a thrill for me to return to the city where I was born. Melancholic, yes, the streets are filled with the ghosts of loved ones. I love the non-touristic places, where there is silence, where I can hear the sound of distant voices and laughter, where I can recall, the little blond girl, at the hand of a grown-up, looking up, always full of questions... But also a happy reunion and revisit of places that are so dear to me and so filled with joy and happiness. This is the Potterierei, along one of the canals, dappled sunlight flecking walls and windows, highlighting and the sunflowers inside and the cobweb. Yes, Autumn was already nearing it would seem. The BLUE DOOR…

DAY 4 and, the inevitable and beautiful Madonna and child. The College campus of the Europa College and its halls of residence are situated in the centre of Bruges. In order to maintain a close proximity, the College has a policy of acquiring suitable buildings and of renovating them to an equal standard of comfort. Gouden Handrei This beautiful Bruges style house dates back to the 17th century and is a listed monument. Now Europa College. During the 2005-2006 academic year it was renovated and provides 48 spacious rooms with private bathrooms. The Gouden Hand student bar which is situated in the cellar is the place where students have been gathering for years. The building has been a backdrop for many films and documentaries. On the Torenbrug, Bridge over the Golden-Handrei. More of the other Brugge. JEFF de BRUGES…

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme Chocolatier in Honfleur. AAHHH, les belles, vieilles façades!!! A law required that the first houses built could not exceed 7.62 metres on the ground floor and not be more than 3 stories tall. Yet a few decades later, because of its economic and demographic development, Honfleur was facing a serious housing crisis. For lack of space, houses were then built one on top of the other. In fact, these buildings were essentially like two adjoining ones, only instead of being built side by side; they were built on top of one another: the base house had its first floor on the bank, while the second one also had a first floor but it gave onto the opposite hill. On one side, St. Catherine Quay, they rise to narrow slate-and-timber heights of five to seven stories, housing restaurants or galleries in the ground floors. Reflected in the dock waters, they look even taller. On the facing side, St. Etienne Quay, the facades are stone, and most rise only two stories. Honfleur is a treasure trove! Full of lots of small shops, boutiques, deli’s, bigger and smaller Art venues. I wish you all a very good day and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. A GENTLE AUTUMN...

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme Scarborough, on the North-Yorkshire Heritage coast has a bit of a strange lay-out, pleasant? VERY! It has a North bay, more for the locals, surfers and on the top all the hotels with a fabulous view in front of them. Then there is the point sticking out into the sea, dividing this from the South bay, where all the fun is, the Fair, the harbours, both yachting and fishing, the arcades , Fish&Chips shops, ice-cream parlours, the donkeys... Now ON that point you have the old (ruin) castle, and a small church with very old graves, lovingly maintained, that's where we ventured that day! Behind all of that, the shops and businesses. A lovely, mellow Autumn Sunday-afternoon... Hope you have a great w-e. UNE CHAUMIERE DE KERASCOET...

#abfav_holidays_theme BRITTANY... The hamlet of Kerascoët includes a series of thatched houses called Cottages of Kerascoët. The village is a typical Breton village dating from the sixteenth century, it was renovated in 1993. Part of Névez, a town in the department of Finistère, in Brittany, France. The main originality of the heritage of the village lies in the granite that was extracted from nearby quarries and of course the thatched roofs! It was used to build the houses, blocks of nearly two meters high were cut on site and erected as a wall. These standing stones are a feature of the rural and authentic Brittany. No cars allowed, a real tourist 'trap' but still interesting! REFLECTION of OLD OSTEND…

Tour of Europe 04 2016 Day 15 In earlier times, Ostend was a small village built on the east-end (oost-einde) of an island (originally called Testerep) between the North Sea and a beach lake. Although small, the village rose to the status of "town" around 1265 when the inhabitants were allowed to hold a market and to build a market hall. Very important for the image of the town was the attention it started to receive from the Belgian kings Leopold I and Leopold II. Both liked to spend their holidays in Ostend. Important monuments and villas were built to please the Royal Family, including the Hippodrome Wellington horse racing track which is ‘reflected’ here ,and the Royal Galleries. The rest of aristocratic Belgium followed and soon Ostend became known as "The Queen of the Belgian sea-side resorts". And they had beautiful houses! This is the city that I grew up in, it has changed, and sadly, for my personal opinion, not for the better… Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY MY IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com Please do not use this image on websites, blogs or any other media without my explicit permission. © All rights reserved

SWEET BRUGGE…

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme On the right hand side of the Church of our Lady, on the way to the St John’s Hospital(now a museum) and the Beguinage, you will find one of the many ‘sweet shops’. Brugge is renowned for its sugary side? Chocolate galore, sometimes even rude sweets, no, not shown here, LOL. I could not resist this, I had to be, again, patient, people constantly at the window, The reflection in the window is of course from the church. LATE SUMMER WINDOW in Bruges

My AB FAV for today… https://www.facebook.com/groups/1148438991917313/ It is always a thrill for me to return to the city where I was born. Melancholic, yes, the streets are filled with the ghosts of loved ones. OH SO BRUGGE…

DAY 8 The sun is pounding again, I look for shade to walk in. This is the Boeveriestraat. Have not been here for a very long time. I remember walking along these typical houses, on my mother’s hand, from the station to the center of the city, where we would meet my grandmother. You see the black border on the bottom? Houses who had a garden would have flowers against them, and THATis the origin of the idea to paint and later photograph flowers against a black background! THE SHORTEST STREET? GLORIBUSSTREET...

DAY 8 A lesser known part of Brugge. The old and the new, Although the laws of preservation are very strict, now and then something modern crops up, like the huge block that is the Concertgebouw here behind the street. The Gloribusstraat is a small street in the Boeveriewijk of Bruges. The street that runs between the Boeveriestraat and King Albert Avenue, got its name from Isabella Gloribus, the widow of Pieter Van Peenen. She founded six almshouses for needy widows, there in 1634. Residents of old Bruges origin continue to call the street Muzevol, Muzenhol (Mousetrap). REFLECTIONS…

DAY 4 I spot the sunny reflections in the windows of the beautiful row of houses, on the shadow-side of the market of Brugge. Some things change, some things remain. I see the book shop, still the same, where my father would take me, put me in front of the correct section of books for me to choose, while he had a chat with his friends, the owners. Sweet memories. ILLUMINATED FACADE…

DAY 7 The party’s over. All gone home. Inside the city hall, the lights are out in the stunning Gothic hall, windows still open, it gently starts to rain, at last. We’ve had our meal and our fun. All that is let is taking a few images go this interesting, illuminated facade. Bruges' City Hall dates from 1376, was built in 55 years, and is one of the oldest in the Netherlands, a fine example, copied by many, like Brussels, Ghent, Leuven. From here, the city has been governed for more than 600 years. The Bruges City Hall is one of the oldest city halls in the entire Netherlands region. It is located in Burg Square, the area of the former fortified castle in the centre of Bruges, Belgium. Responsibility for its construction was given to Jan Roegiers, and the project was completed, eventually, in 1421. The City Hall is the earliest late Gothic monumental-style municipal council building in Flanders or Brabant: its flamboyant opulence testifies to the city's economic and political power. The building's admirers highlight the effect of the "Brugian span", referring to the abundance of repeating systematically positioned niches encompassing the windows. The statues under the stone baldachin-canopies on the building's facade have been renewed several times. At the time of the French Revolution all the statues were destroyed. A small number of genuine pieces are now included in the collections of the city museum. LA CHAPELLERIE…

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme Making hats is not only a craft it is also a passion. FULL STORY ABOUT THIS PHOTO HERE: You NEVER know! https://youtu.be/2iX5id0dSnY We pass a jazz café; see the church St Catherine in darkness and all the galleries around there, together with where we 'should have eaten', because that is where the French, the 'locals' are eating! All very romantic... turn another corner and discover this milliner's shop. This is a proper chapellerie... one of the last in France. It looks so colourful and inviting... but I 'travel' light... no tripod, can't use flash, so, anchor myself against the wall, elbow on hip, focus, a deep breath, hold still, click, hold still, breathe out AND hope for the best... I do love a challenge, lol. I wish you all a very good day and thanks for all your kind words, time, comments and likes. Very much appreciated. MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! THE STORY CONTINUES... THE WINDOWS... A gold leafed book was carried in and put on a lectern, the light from the windows falls on the few ‘decorations’ in this church, (as most of it was lost over all the years for many reasons), the small, delicate cross and the top edge of the missal... Mocárabe in La Alhambra...

#abfav_holidays_theme To stand there is AMAZING! "Honeycomb," "stalactite," or "mocárabe" vaulting in the Hall of the Abencerrajes. The Hall of the Abencerrajes (Sala de los ,) is located in front of the Hall of the Two Sisters (Sala de Dos Hermanas). The walls have plasterwork covers and a tile skirting board from the 16th century, of Renaissance style. A wonderful dome of mocarabes rests on eight pendentives of mocarabes. The following inscription is written on the pendentives: «There is no other help than the help that comes from God, the clement and merciful One». The windows that are where the dome starts let a faint light filter through and illuminate the mocarabes creating a magic The Nasrid dynasty of Granada used mocárabe extensively and used it around the capitals of its columns thereby making a new order of column. Mocárabe was constructed in a variety of materials including wood and plaster. Under the Nasrid, mocárabe was originally carved into its medium. Later on, moulds were made to cast the designs with clay or plaster. Incense in the sun-rays…

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme In the Gothic church on Mont St Michel. ... The key is turned and people stream in, we arrive back in the refectory, transformed into a music-room, red carpet on the floor, a clavecimble in place and a young musician tuning it, we hang around, she starts to play, it is brilliant! Very beautiful, you get ‘enveloped’ by the sounds… We decide to continue, we hear other instruments in the distance, we are curious. Via another way, we arrive back in the church, the monks and nuns have left, the familiar scent and smoke of the incense lingers heavily in bands across the high vaulted ceiling, off-setting the rays of incoming sunlight, it is awesome! Feverishly I take more images, the sun might go… the incense is thinning... LIGHT AND DARKNESS…

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme A window on the Mont St Michel, composition made in camera, a nice challenge. Deeper, lower, further back in history and time, you see the changes in the architecture and 'style'! Romanesque architecture is the term for a period style in architecture in Europe which lasted from about 1050 to about 1200. View LARGE. LATE EVENING... EARLY NIGHT...

One from the 'archives', the days of film!
Not often do you have such calm weather and waters along North-Sea Coasts. View On Black
I don't know about you, but me I can become so engrossed in the image-taking. I forget time and of course, your eyes gradually adapt to the darkness that stealthily creeps up on you... the sun long gone, the merest of afterglows, a beautiful silence descended, the sea released her typical fragrances, accentuated by the cooling of the night, iodine, salt, fish, tar and oil...
The mirror of the Hasselblad (camera) making its heavenly unique 'KLAK' as I took this 'last' neg, pushing it!
One of the old favourite 'hunting-grounds' was the main industrial harbour of Ostend, in Flanders, Belgium.
Once a thriving fishing harbour, it is now a ‘skeleton’ of what it once was…
This was an image I'd had on my 'list' for quite some time and it all fell into place, AND... I'D BROUGHT MY TRIPOD!!! Huraaaayyyy! (It's for studio, don't like lagging it with me, love to 'travel' light, LOL!)
Well what do you expect with a Hasselblad, hmmm, just look at that quality, no wonder I still have clients who INSIST!
Lens 80mm/Zeiss.
Film Fuji
Tripod(for once that I used it) Manfrotto.

COMINGS AND GOINGS @SCHIPHOL...

MY IMAGES ARE FOR SALE ONLY FROM ME, DIRECTLY, see below! This IS the link to a live and exclusive interview!!! I get so many questions every day, I thought it might be a good idea, so here goes: Best view it Large, in HD, AND it is 17 minutes!!!! Sit back and ENJOY. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u1aOqA4KdM For those who viewed it already, thank you for your feedback, lovely! Plane delayed for one hour, due to heavy snow and frost back home, they had to de-ice everything... I'd already passed all the checks and controls, so, just the looooooong terminal H, a 'tunnel' divided by a glass wall, on the one side arrivals, my side the departures. People coming and going, going and coming. It was the perfect moment to experiment some with my new present, the Nikon Coolpix P1. I was not won over yet, still prefered my trusted Nikon F4 and film, however, it is so much easier and silent to take shots of people without them being aware... you see the result, and can wait for the next group, the next decisive moment... That was when I was still only shooting with film on my super Nikons F4!... now it is ONLY digital, except when the client demands otherwise, and some do! FROM THE CAR...

#abfav_favourite_doors_and_windows_theme When we're out together, Paul does most of the driving. Me, I look around and love the challenge of shooting images from the car... hit and miss, but I have a whole series of 'hits' now and even more 'misses'... hihi, and I had a lot of fun, Wishing you a fun day and thanks for your visit, M, (*_*) For more of my other work or if you want to PURCHASE (ONLY PLACE TO BUY OUR IMAGES!), VIEW THE NEW PORTFOLIOS AND LATEST NEWS HERE on our website: www.indigo2photography.com IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN (BY LAW!!!) SO LOVINGLY RESTORED and MAINTAINED...

#abfav_shadows_silhouettes_theme When two photographers are at the same scene... two different views! Pickering, North-Yorkshire... Most of the passengers may not realise how reliant upon volunteers the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is. With the magnificent steam engines, beautiful rural stations and smartly uniformed staff, a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is like taking a step back in time. From the smoke and steam pouring from the engines to the cosy wood-panelled carriages and friendly conductor service, the railway is both lovingly preserved and charmingly authentic. It’s also the perfect starting point for a day out, whether you’re travelling between the rugged Yorkshire villages, hiking on the wind swept moors or spending a day by the seaside in Whitby. You know by now that I am a 'purist? Prefer proper pure photography! For years people researched and battled to create the SHARPEST GLASS!!! And now, I see ALL TOO MANY 'BLUR' filters???????? LOL. FRESH PAINT?

#ABFAV_FAVOURITE_SPRING_THEME SCARBOROUGH BEACH HUTS… In seaside resorts and many other tourist places a fresh lick of paint is a must… They are so cheerful and attractive, here in more detail. THE COLOURS of CAPE TOWN 1...

#abfav_holidays_theme Bo Kaap, The Cape Malay Quarter Hidden in central Cape Town, just beyond all the hustle and bustle of the town, you will find this little treasure. What is Bo-Kaap? It is a multicultural area, tucked safely into the fold of signal hill. Known for its brightly coloured houses and situated at the foot of Signal Hill, Bo-Kaap is the spiritual home of the Cape’s Muslim community. The Bo-Kaap is one of Cape Town’s most colourful suburbs. Bo-Kaap has a fascinating history. Many of the residents are descendants of slaves from Malaysia, Indonesia and various African countries, who were imported to the Cape of Good Hope by the Dutch during the 16th and 17th centuries. The slaves were known as ‘Cape Malays’ (which is not essentially true as most of the residents are not entirely of Malaysian descent). However the term has stuck and Bo-Kaap is also known today as the Cape Malay Quarter.
